Camera won't focus well enough to read Scan Tags

On my iPhone 4S the camera no longer focuses on near items well enough to capture scan tags. Otherwis the camera seems to work fine.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

The glass on my iPhone 5 is missing and now my camera won't focus does it have anything to do with the glass missing?! Would buying a iPhone extension lens like the ones you just clip on the phone help?

Wow seems like some physical damage to the iPhone whether this is a manufacturing defect or misuse it would need to be evaluated and determined at either an Apple Store or Service provider. And yes this is most likely causing the camera not to focus.

  • Trying to photograph a sunset through tree branches, but camera won't focus properly

I have an SX50HS, am trying to take a zoom shot of the sunset through tree branches, but the camera will only focus on the branches...trying to get the sun in focus

Normally, I use the Manual mode of the camera. What I usually do is to put the camera in manual focus mode and set to infinity. You might also try setting the metering to spot meter. Make sure you are using a high enough shutter speed to avoid camera shake, and use an aperature of around f5. Too wide of an aperture (f2.0) will also blur the background, so keep the aperture to a higher number to keep everything focused. (smaller aperture).

  • Hello! I dropped my iPhone 5 and my camera won't focus anymore, what should i do?

So, i accidentally dropped my phone for the first time today, and the camera won't seem to focus anymore

Accidental damage is not covered by warranty. You can get a replacement iPhone of the exact same model for $269 from Apple.

  • My iPad New camera won't focus when taking a picture or video!!

Today I bought the iPad New. Camera started acting up at once!! Everytime I try to take a picture the camera will not focus making all of my pictures blurry. What can I do to fix this? Anyone else experience this issue? Camera on the front of the iphone works and focuses just fine, however the back camera will only take a clear picture if you're like 6 inches or less away from the target. The tap to focus feature doesn't do anything for it.
Is that hardware problem or not?

    Satler-
I had not seen that.  It appears several people reported trouble, but no solutions.
Yes, I am sure that being out of focus beyond six inches is a defect.
There is another problem that you may encounter which is due to noise appearing as grain when there is not enough light for a useable picture.  The "cure" would be to turn on more lights.  The same thing might be true for focusing, which also requires enough light to function.  See if it works better outdoors with daylight illumination.
Other unusual problems that have been reported for the iPad 3, have responded to a reset (reboot) of the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

  • Camera won't focus after 8.1.3 update

I updated my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 8.1.3 today and now the rear camera is permanently focused very close to the phone. I can't change the focus using auto focus, tapping the screen, or manually changing the focal length in Camera+.

    Greetings jpewitt,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with Camera issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Your photos are blurred or out of focus
If your photos are blurred, out of focus, or have dark spots, try these steps:
Make sure that the camera lens is clean. If you need to clean the lens, use a microfiber cloth. If you see dirt or debris inside the lens, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
With iPhone 6 Plus, a metallic case or magnetic lens could interfere with optical image stabilization. If you have a metallic case or magnetic lens attachment, try taking a picture without it. Then compare the quality.
Adjust the focus by tapping on the person or object in the preview screen. You’ll see the screen pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as the camera adjusts. In photo mode, try to stay steady when adjusting the focus. If you move too far in any direction, the camera will automatically refocus to the center. In video mode, you can adjust the focus before you begin recording.
If the color seems too bright, or you see double-exposures of moving objects, make sure that HDR is set to Auto or Off. Tap HDR at the top of the screen to choose a different setting.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Camera won't focus up close. Any answers?

Ever since I updated to iOS 6.0.1 my camera will no longer focus at close range. It is particularly noticeable while trying to capture text in a photo but is also noticeable with normal photography. Does anyone know anything about this or have any possible solutions/explanations?

  • IPhone5 camera won't focus

I've had my iPhone5 for about 3 month already and I noticed that the back camera would move a little bit I didn't really mind it but recently I found that it doesn't focus on objects that are like 6 inches away. When I open the camera app it would make a weird buzzing noise also when I would open my flash light. I got mine at the Tmobile store and I don't know what to do to fix it I always use my camera, can I take it into the store and get it replaced it how does it work?

I've seen this and the lens was scratched or dirty

  • IPhone 5 camera won't focus

So, I had my iPhone 5s for about one month now and I'm having an issue with the back camera. I tried taping the screen to focus an object or writing on a paper and it appears blurry. I tried focusing it from many distances and that doesn't work. I tried resetting the iPhone settings and still nothing. I made sure there wasn't any thing that might be in the way of the camera and cleaned it. I never dropped the phone or hit it hard against something. Also, if I shake the phone I hear something rattling ever so slightly in the general area of the camera. Please help if you know any solutions!

the rattling sounds from the area of the camera is the mechanism for the focus. it is normal to hear the rattling sound if shake it or tap it.
you can do a backup and RESTORE AS NEW to test the iPhone. if it is not still focusing the most likely it needs a replacement.

  • Camera Won't Focus

The camera on the back of my phone will no longer focus.  Any suggestions?

Good day to you, ajkrieg! I apologize for the loss of focus capability. In order to help, I would like to know more about what happens when you try to do this. The focus option on the Galaxy S III is available when the preloaded camera application is launched. First, do you still use that app or have you installed a custom app? If your working with the preloaded app only, what happens when you try to change focus? Do you have the option to change it but notice that it doesn't actually change? Do you have the camera app set up for any other image features? Has your device been damaged in any way?

when you're aimed at something, use your finger to move the green square box to the focal point.
    Does that help?

  • New photos won't focus, come out blurry

I've had my 3GS for about a year and half. I've always been able to take nice photos of documents (receipts etc.) with it for my records. In the past couple of weeks I've noticed that the camera won't focus well on document text under any lighting or angle. The lens looks clean. Could this be a problem with a recent software update? Or maybe a hardware problem since the phone has some mileage on it? Thoughts?
    Thanks!

If resetting did not help, a restore "as new iphone" would be the next step. First, try to restore without using the backup after the restore process. If you can use the camera again after that, try to restore again, this time using the latest backup to get back your app data and settings.
If the camera problem comes back, your backup data contain the error and you'll have to restore again "as new iphone" without the backup, like you did in step one.

  • My Camara won't focus how do I fix it

My iPhone camera won't focus how do I fix it?

When you are going to take a picture, tap the object that you want to take a picture of on the screen. If this does not work, wipe your screen and camera.
