Camera won't open, can't backup my apps AND laptop...

Hey guys,
So I'm having some trouble with my Lumia 1020. Yesterday evening I tried to take a photo, but whenever I opened any app to do with the camera, the app crashed to the home screen. I tried to find some help online, did several soft resets to no avail, and started trying to back things up in order to perform a factory reset.
As I was backing things up, I found I could not back up my apps- the backup sticks at 11%, no matter how long I leave it for. I also noticed my photos had only been cloud-stored in medium quality, so I plugged my phone into my laptop (both are running Windows 8.1) in order to manually transfer them.
This is where my third problem comes in- my phone will charge from my laptop, but is not recognised anywhere on the laptop as a device. There's no "USB connected" chime, it's not in my device manager and it doesn't appear as a device on My Computer. There are no USB settings on my phone, I've downloaded the USB driver in order to install them but since the device doesn't appear in the device manager I can't install it.
I can't take it to a shop as I bought it second-hand from an exchange store (they gave me a random cable and charging plug, not the ones that should have come with the phone) and I'm currently in Italy until June-July. I'm completely at a loss for what to do and would really appreciate some help.

Hi, aedowin. Welcome to Microsoft Mobile Community. Does it happen when using the built-in camera or even with a camera application? Have you also tried using a third party camera application to further isolate the issue? For your backup concern, are you using cellular data when backing up your files? If so, have you tried using Wi-Fi connection to see if the same thing happens? About the phone not being detected by your laptop, are you using the cable that came with it? Try using a different cable, insert it on another port and see if there are any changes. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
Also, you might check to see if restrictions are on (and the camera turned off): Settings app > General > Restrictions.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

You can use Photo Stream to sync the photos and videos or you can use an app like DropBox: When you open the app in iPhone/iPad you can upload your Camera Roll to your DropBox folder (you need a DropBox Account) and later, in your iPad/iPhone, you can open the app again and download what you need.

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You can trash Firefox 4.0 then re-install Firefox 3.6, it will use your existing bookmarks, passwords etc

You can delete apps (which will also delete their content), but they will only be redownloadable whilst they remain in your country's store - none of your iTunes downloads (apps, music, ibooks etc) use any of your iCloud storage, iCloud is for your backups (e.g. app's content, camera roll photos, messages, homescreen layout).
To delete an app, press and hold any of the apps and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded (you can't delete built-in apps) then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'
You can delete photos from your iPad, but if you want them back then you should copy them to your computer first.

You can also copy your downloads (apps, music, films etc) to your computer's iTunes by connecting your iPad and/or iPhone to it and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.

First you need to authorize your MBA with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad. This will transfer/copy all iTunes content on your iPad that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
Photos on your iPad that were transferred from your old computer need to be transferred from your old computer to your MBA.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal if you aren't syncing this content over the air with an iCloud account, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your MBA. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provided a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your MBA with iPhoto or the Image Capture application.

That's not good! We definitely want your device to work properly at all times. What email application are you attempting to open? When did the issue start? Do you receive an error message when the application force closes?

If you backup the iOS devices to iTunes, then iTunes in turn backs up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine.

Can I remove Mail.app and retain Thunderbird functionality?

MacBook Pro 15" Retina, 500g drive, 8g ram. VM with Parallels 8/Win7 and Bootcamp with the identical Win 7 installation.
Nearly two months after receiving my lovely MacBook in October last year, my Mail app quit receiving mail. I could send, but nothing came in. Pop3 accounts on digital cable service.
I asked about it here and was answered with the recommendation to use Thunderbird. No looking back, it's great. I have used it before on Win XP long ago, but didn't have server based e-mail accounts then so I used it as the prime client on a Toshiba machine. Since then, I have started a website and am allowed ten e-mail accounts so I just go to the server or use Thunderbird. Thunderbird out of convenience, and the server if I am not at home on my network. I won't go into it here. A Charter Communications issue.
So, here is the question, and the subject asks the same thing. Can I remove Mail.app from my machine and retain functionality in Thunderbird? Additionally, can I remove Mail.app and reinstall it from here if I desire to test it or end up with issues if I do remove it?
The reason I want to do this is due to clicking on e-mail links and having Mail open and ask me to set it up. I have no desire or need to use it. I have been copy/pasting the link, but I am really tired of it. I want to click and see Thunderbird go to work for me.
So, another question, how do I get all xxxx@xxxxx,com/net/org links to open Thunderbird instead of Mail if that is a better solution?

BTW, I looked around the boards and found nothing even close to this. I posted to this board because it seems to be the right place for this issue since it is a system app.

it declines it when u put in a different card that has $ available on it? have u updated the billing address to match the new card?
also, u can try using an itunes gift card instead.
