CameraRaw 7.1

Trying to update CameraRaw to v7.1. Got a message indicating a problem with the Application Mgr, so I downloaded that, as advised. Tried again with CameraRaw, but got the same message about a problem with the App Mgr. Ideas???

  • LR 2.4 crashing on 500d cr2 files - CameraRaw!CTJPEGRotateImage

LR 2.4 is consistently crashing while viewing cr2 files from a Canon 500d / T1i.  I've just recently started using LR, but unfortunately it crashes so frequently (within a minute or two) that I haven't made it much past just importing my photos and starting to add keywords and delete rejects.  I'm curious if anyone else is running into this type of issue.  At this point my only real option is to give up on LR (just use DPP and then PS CS4) or perhaps try it on another PC in hopes that there's some incompatibility/problem on this specific box. . .  I hate to do this as we have LR licenses at work already plus I'd love to purchase it for home use as well. . .
    Environment:
    Windows XP x64 SP2
    LR DB on local NTFS
CR2 files on mapped network drive.
See Dr. Watson below for more. . .
    Steps to reproduce:
Do a couple of the following actions (all in the Library module):
Select imags and add keywords in grid view
Zoom in and out on a couple of images
Switch folders and repeat the first couple of steps
Usually I get crashes by doing this within a minute or two and by manipulating about 20-50 files (so very quickly).

Just for reference, my LR database is on my local disk, not on my network drive.  I have no issues using this network share with any other programs (such as DPP or Explorer).
I have all of the latest updates available from MS update, including the latest video driver from their site for my Nvidia 7900GS.  I'll check the Nvidia site and see if there are any other (newer) drivers available directly from them.
It has been a long while since I've done anything with RAW files, so this is really in all practicality my first experience and definitely so on this PC (I had a Canon G1, so yeah, a *long* time;->).  I probably have some older G1 raw files around I could try working with as well if messing with the video drivers doesn't make any difference.
I'll make some adjustments and get back to folks with results, thanks for the suggestions so far!

  • I can't save my picture to .jpeg in CameraRaw, the only format available is .dng. Why??

I want to save my pictures to .jpeg in CameraRaw, but the only format available is .dng. I have to open the picture in Elements 12 just to save as .jpeg. Why??

Because the ACR module is meant to convert the raw data into an image format that the editor can read. From the editor (or the organizer) you can save your raw files to image files formats like jpeg, tiff or psd. Simply click the 'Open in editor' button.
For batch conversion to jpeg, either use the 'process multiple files' option in the file menu of the editor, or select several raws in the organizer and export to a new location in the desired format.
The option to 'save' as DNG may be used if you want to convert to the raw DNG format. You don't need to use that feature.
I highly recommend you take the time to read the help file (Help button in the camera raw dialog).

  • How can I convert (or switch) the RGB percent values from the LR histogram into RGB values which are shown e. g. in PS/CameraRAW?

In LR 5.5 (same in previous versions) the RGB values in the histogram are shown in percent (relativ) values. I prefere to see the absolute values, but I can`t find any way to switch. Maybe this option is intentional disabled, because LR works in 16-Bit mode this would result in values up to 2^16. But as i compared the relativ values from LR with the absolute values from PS i run into a conversion problem. The following example shows the differences:
    CameraRAW : RGB, 128,0,0
    Lightroom: RGB, 43,8%, 19,0%, 6,2%
    CameraRAW: RGB, 0,128,0
    Lightroom: RGB, 29,8%, 47,5%, 17,5%
    Mainly i have two questions:
    1. Is there any possibility to change the percent RGB values in LR to absolut values?
    2. How can i convert CameraRAW values to LR values (see above)?

TThe reason that a design decision was made from the beginning of LR to show only the percentage values was that RGB values are dependent on the color space and the LR histogram and numerical readout are derived from the Develop module's display space which is a hybrid color space with ProPhoto RGB primaries and the sRGB TRC. Thus the numerical values in the display would be different from the exported RGB image (in an orthodox space) and it was feared that this would be misleading. When soft proofing was introduced, because it involved converting the display to an orthodox space, it became possible to use the 0-255 scale in that mode.

  • Problema Photoshop CC 2014 CameraRaw Nikon D4S

Buongiorno, mi sono registrato ad Adobe, ed ho scaricato Photoshop CC 2014 in versione di prova, provo ad aprire i file fatti con la mia macchina fotografica ma esce un errore.
Computer: Sistema operativo Windows 8.1Antivirus: Kaspersky Internet Security 2015Macchina Fotografica: Nikon D4SFormato File RAW: NEF.
    Errore riportato come allegato.

Interesting you should say that... I forgot to mention that I updated the graphics drivers last week which improved the heat situation- the graphics card in the laptop was cooking.  That has gotten much better with the new driver.
But last night I did move the Photoshop scratch disk config around.  I changed it from the internal C-drive to the external F-drive and things got noticeably better.  I'm not sure if that is theoretically good (I always imagined the internal drive to be much faster than the external USB3 drive) but it may be a case that the internal drive is just being asked to do too much along with Windows typical demands.
Maybe another internal disk for the laptop?  Or would that just add to the mess.  I'll keep an eye on it with task manager.  Can you recommend a decent third-party app to monitor resources?

  • CameraRaw is not updated in Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014. Active version is still 8.3, although 8.5 is available. AAM and CC App say everything up-to.date.

On my Windows 7 (x64) PC I have Photoshop CC and since this morning Photoshop CC 2014. If I open a RAW or DNG file in either of them, CameraRaw version 8.3 opens. When I search for updates via Help -> Updates, no updates are found. Creative Cloud App shows no updates as well (everything up-to-date).
For Photoshop CS6 (installed in parallel, local license, no cloud version) I got an update to CameraRaw 8.5 today. And it works in this old version.
Tried already to download manual update from Keeping Photoshop Up-To-Date. However, Installer fails with "Update failed.Updates couldn't be installed".
How can I make CameraRaw 8.5 available for CC / CC 2014 as well ?

Solved ! Found another post in this forum that gave me some useful hints. You have to download Camera Raw 8.5 manually.
Download link for Camera Raw 8.5.0.236 for Windows is http://swupdl.adobe.com/updates/oobe/aam20/win/PhotoshopCameraRaw8-8.0/8.5.50/setup.zip
The Installer didn't work, so I only unzipped the file. You can find the Camera Raw plugins in the sub-directories:
    32-bit version:
    - > payloads/AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-050614141453/Assets1_1.zip
extract file "1003" and rename it to "Camera Raw.8bi"
copy it to c:/Program Files (x86)/Common/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats/CameraRaw.8bi (previous CameraRaw is overwritten, you should copy old version to a save place first)
    64-bit version:
    - > payloads/AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-x64-050614143245/Assets1_1.zip
extract file "1002" and rename it to "Camera Raw.8bi"
copy it to c:/Program Files/Common/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats/CameraRaw.8bi (previous CameraRaw is overwritten, you should copy old version to a save place first)
Start Photoshop CC and open a RAW file to be sure it's ok now.

  • CameraRaw V6.7 in Elements-10 Issue

After updating CameraRaw V6.6 in Elements-10 to CameraRaw V6.7, CameraRaw is missing on the plug-in list and it can't open any NEF files.  What to do?

Have your NEF files been transferred directly from camera to computer, or previously opened in Nikon software or another application?
You only need v6.7 if you have recently purchased the Nikon D4, Nikon D800 or Nikon D800E.
The Nikon D3200 is not yet supported in Elements.
N.B. see this link on using older versions of Nikon Transfer.

  • Lightroom 1.3 creates CameraRaw Cache

I import raw files to an external hard drive on a Win XP system. After installing 1.3, I have a new folder C:\Documents and Settings\my name\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache. A Cache ###.dat file about the same size as the original raw file is created when I open the picture. I use PSE 4.0 to edit so I do not see a need for the CameraRaw file. How can I turn this off? It was not part of v1.2.
    Thanks, Richard

Hi Thomas, I measure the timings with the Process Monitor under vista. It shows all IO done by a program. I have a quad core 3.7 ghz machine, with brand new 750GB hd's in raid1 mode, that do about 75MB/s continuous writing. The catalog and images are on a seperate 2TB raid0 volume that does 115MB/s continuous writing.
I just started a preview generation. I use 2048, high quality (because im on the road a lot, and would like somewhat ok images with me).
Here is the first mention in the log of this image, COR_20071003_25547.NEF:
    i 1784404 10:53:14.1068606 PM lightroom.exe 4644 QueryDirectory E:\Images\Originals\Cor\Underwater\Solomons\Solomons September 2007\20071003\COR_20071003_25547.NEF SUCCESS Filter: COR_20071003_25547.NEF, 1: COR_20071003_25547.NEF
It reads the 20MB raw file, which takes 0.3 seconds
    1785808 10:53:14.4110567 PM lightroom.exe 4644 ReadFile E:\Images\Originals\Cor\Underwater\Solomons\Solomons September 2007\20071003\COR_20071003_25547.NEF SUCCESS Offset: 19,750,912, Length: 1,816, Priority: Normal
Next it fires off a few threads, which take about 0.05 seconds to finish. No idea what these threads do, they seem to take almost no processor time.
Now it starts reading the CameraRaw Cache index file:
    1785890 10:53:14.4728629 PM lightroom.exe 4644 QueryOpen C:\Users\cor\AppData\Local\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache\Index.dat
It starts another set of threads, which also take 0.05 seconds to finish.
Now it has figured out the cache file doesnt exist, and it starts writing it, we're only a mere 0.4 seconds into the process:
1785935 10:53:14.5149033 PM lightroom.exe 4644 CreateFile C:\Users\cor\AppData\Local\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache\Cache0000013254.dat SUCCESS Desired Access: Generic Read/Write, Disposition: OpenIf, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Random Access, Attributes: N, ShareMode: None, AllocationSize: 0, OpenResult: Created
The cache file is 17MB, and finishes 4.5 seconds later.
    1795111 10:53:18.9960440 PM lightroom.exe 4644 CloseFile C:\Users\cor\AppData\Local\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache\Cache0000013254.dat SUCCESS
Somewhere in the middle of this the actual preview is being written, I guess these things happen in seperate threads:
1793108 10:53:17.6010975 PM lightroom.exe 4644 CreateFile E:\Images\Catalogs\Lightroom_Cor\lightroom_cor\lightroom_cor Previews.lrdata\8\8921\89210BFF-9147-4A7E-819F-CAABEEB30CC7-8e5855ce63af82e5b518514a2227b a68-97.lr-preview.noindex SUCCESS Desired Access: Generic Write, Read Attributes, Disposition: OverwriteIf, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Attributes: N, ShareMode: Read, Write, AllocationSize: 0, OpenResult: Created

This takes a whopping 0.02 seconds.
And we're on to the next image:
    1795837 10:53:19.2355255 PM lightroom.exe 4644 QueryDirectory E:\Images\Originals\Cor\Underwater\Solomons\Solomons September 2007\20071003\COR_20071003_25548.NEF SUCCESS Filter: COR_20071003_25548.NEF, 1: COR_20071003_25548.NEF
So, let me put the timings close together:
    10:53:14.1068606 image read
    10:53:14.4110567 done reading
    10:53:14.4728629 read camera raw index
10:53:14.5149033 start writing camera raw cache file
10:53:18.9960440 end writing camera raw cache file
    10:53:19.2355255 next image
I dont know what LR does internally, so this could be giving a totally wrong idea of whats happening. If the writing of the image is done as a stream while LR is calculating the final image, and not merely writing an internal buffer, then a huge part of that 4.5 seconds would also be used if it werent writing it. Only the LR devs can shed light on that. All I know is, if it isnt writing that cache, for instance when that cache file already exists, then it takes at most a second. Which would be about right looking at the above timings.
    Regards,
    Cor

  • Persistent color sampler from cameraraw to XMP

The samplers created inside cameraraw plugin don't stick between cameraraw sessions, loosing the color values read before to compare afterwards.
For example, when I open images on photoshop as smart objects using cameraraw and create color samplers, and I re-edit the smart object layer (using cameraraw again) the samplers aren't there any more.
Some times the new color sampler position isn't same anymore and the reading of the color values change. And that betrays the potential of intelligent objects.
XMP would assume the position and the color values, and that could be even read later from photoshop script to pass it to the same color sample tool (but this would be another potential addition not regarding the problem here).
I invite you guys to vote 'Like' on this request, using this link (adobe login):

OK, I may just be having an extraordinarily stupid day, so bear with me..........
The url's in the previous reply don't work any more - I presume this is because the forums have been reorganized?
But, beyond that - here's what I RECALL doing in the past.......................
In my image, create a color sampler point using the color sampler tool.
Create curve adjustment layer and make that layer the current layer.
Go back to my image and press ctrl+shift and click on the color sample.
This would put the rgb values (puts a point on the curve) from the color sample on the red, green, and blue channels of the curves layer.
After reading the last couple replies, I did the same thing.  And I went "back to my image" and clicked on
the color sample.  I'm STILL not getting the values on my curve layer......
What am I missing 'cause this can't be as difficult as I'm making it.........?

  • Problem with processing D90's NEF in CameraRaw 5.2

please refer to 3 images I placed here:
    http://picasaweb.google.ru/ioutkine/CameraRAWProblem#
It is roof fragment shot on sunny day.
The problem is that if I open NEF in CameraRaw 5.2, then I can see colored spots on the roof. It cannot be removed using lens correction or other options. Original JPEG does not contain such artifact. Neither does RAW opened in Nikon Capture NX.
It looks like CameraRaw incorrectly interprets raw information from Nikon D90. Does anybody face the same issue? Are there workarounds?

    Иля,
I'm not from the ACR team. However I downloaded your DSC_0566.NEF raw file.
I opened it in ACR 5.3. The image is overexposed by about 4/10 of a stop and consequently has numerous clipped highlights. I moved the exposure slider to -0.40 and the Recovery slider to 28. I left all other settings at whatever the Auto adjustment left them: temperature 4850; Tint -7; Fill Light 0; Brightness 0; Contrast +19; Clarity 0; Vibrance 0; and Saturation 0.
I see no color artifacts like those clearly shown on your posted crops. Same results (no color artifacts) with Adobe Standard, Camera Standard, Camera Landscape, Camera Neutral, Camera Vivid, etc.
Default Sharpening settings (25; 1.0; 25; without any additional sharpening. Noise Reduction: Luminance 0, Color 25. No Chromatic Aberration correction, Defringe off, no Vignetting correction.

  • Which film scanner drivers work in Photoshop CC and CameraRAW?

To streamline my workflow, I'd prefer to do my film scanning from within Photoshop CC and CameraRaw.
Does anyone know of high quality film scanners that do this?
In the past I've scanned TIFFs into Photoshop but I'd prefer to work in more compact RAW (or DNG) files, if that is possible?
I work with Macs and the latest OS X.
Currently, I scan using VueScan Professional saving to DNG files outside of Photoshop. I then must open it in Bridge CC or Photohop CC. I'd rather work directly if possible.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As moomadcow said, this is hugely inconvenient and adds up to hundreds of hours over the years I use Photoshop day in and out for my work.
Please let us know what we can to help this get solved.

  • How  to get lightroom work with CameraRaw 5.2?

Hello im using Lightroom 2 and CS4 on a imac 24".
How is it possible to get Lightroom to work with CameraRaw 5.2?
    A simple installation don´t work.
    Any help is welcome!
    Greetings,

Volker- You should update to v. 2.1 asap, and 2.2 when released in the next couple of weeks.
LR doesn't depend on ACR, but has a parallel, more or less, conversion engine built in.

Never mind I found the option. It's in Adobe Bridge under Camera Raw Preferences.

    I've got a Olympus Pen E-P1.
I work with DNG Converter 5.5, Lightroom 2.5, CameraRaw 5.5, Photoshop CS4 with my *.ORF files with no problems, and I can convert ORF in DNG with those software smooth, but...
I can't open those DNG files with DNG Profile Editor. It display a error message "Could not open the selected image. Note that the selected image must be a valid DNG color image".
I'm trying to create a E-P1 DNG Profile using ColorChecker Passport. When I try to import a DNG file displays a similar error message "Can't open the file. Is a invalid DNG file".
What is occurring about DNG files from E-P1's ORF?.
