Camileo S10 saves recording in AVI format

Hi from Spain,
I've just received my Camileo S10 bought from an online reseller.
I choose the S10 because all over the web, people says that it records .MOV files which is perfect for me as I'm willing to edit the recordings on my Mac using iMovie.
First test : I'm recording a few clips on both internet memory and SD card and watch them on my TV. Great quality, nothing to say so far.
I then connect the S10 to my Mac using USB cable and discover that all the files are .AVI and not .MOV as everyone seems to have.
It plays fine with VLC, but iMovie doesn't recognize any of these files.
I don't want to have to convert AVI to MOV as this is a gift for my wife and she wants something straightforward.
Is there any option or firmware available to change this ?
This is very weird... Reading all forums and comments on the net, it seems everyone is looking for a way to save in anything but .MOV
I need an answer to know if I'm sending back the S10 or not...
Thanks for your help.

Hi mate
Are you sure its a .avi format???
I downloaded the user manual for this camcorder S10 and the page 42 says that the camcorder support these file formats:
Picture: JPG
*Movie: MOV*
It seems the MOV format is supported
Maybe you should check all the settings!!

I would like to know if it is possible to record a movie with Toshiba Camileo S10 without flipping screen?

To be honest I dont know what you mean.
    Can you please explain this?
Have you checked the user manual? I dont know if the user manual contains the answer of your questions but its always useful to look in the user manual. If you dont have it you can download it on the Toshiba website:

  • Camileo S10 - 16/9 recording at FULL HD

I have the same problem with friend *rodarko* ([m-169634] ). I have seen his thread, but nobody since now have found a solution. I will try to desribe my exact problem.
When I record at 16:9 full HD everything seems ok. But when I try to play it on my computer with Arcsoft player, some files are played 16:9 and some others are played 4:3.
I have made a lot of tryies but the only thing that I have found out is that usually the files that works on 16:9 format, are not the first 5 that I have record. So If I record 4 or 5 or 6 (I do not know why) files, then the next files can be played on 16:9.
This does not hapens all the times. My camera is Camileo S10 and my card is Kingston 8GB HC (SD6/8GB).
I wanter why TOSHIBA didn't found any solution, and ofcourse I wanter why they have put the following message (This thread is locked - replies are not allowed.)on the same answer of user rodarko!
Any way please if you know anything give me an answer. Thank you

I had similar problem ..... all videos shot in full HD (on my Camileo P30) but some of them on windws were reported as they were shot in 1440x1080.(4:3) and some as 1920x1080
To solve that you must know how windows system works.
By doubleclicking an AVI (or opening it by an editing software or player) background process will try to decode such video. Such process is not part of editing software or player, it is part of windows.
For proper decoding such process will take some infos from AVI file and will try to load apropriate codec for proper interpretation of file stream. When codec is found it will be loaded and used to decode file stream into video and audio streams and those streams then will be returned to host application (editor or player).
Today, on average computer you can find tons of codecs. On my own ther is over 130 for different file formats.
You also should know that some codecs avaliable are not finished completly or doesn't support all possible variations of file formats. (new header sections etc)
To be capable to chose right codec from the bunch windows use some kind of flag called MERIT which is associated to each codec. So codecs with MERIT_VALUE='DO NOT USE' will never be used while codecs with MERIT_VALUE='Prefered' or 'above prefered' will mostly like used.
The key point of problem from topic and all other problems related to corrupted video or video doesn't load in editor (or player) is MERIT number of probably incomplete (or old) codec.
If MERIT of such codec is high then other (maybe newer) codes with MERIT set to normal will never get chance to load. To fix that you have several options. One could be to uninstall old or problematic codec. It is easy if codec came as single unfortunately most of codecs come in packs. Removing complete pack is not solution since other codec could be good and are used for other types of videos.
The best way is to manually change MERIT value for problematic codec to value 'DO NOT USE'.
To do that easy you'll need simple GRAPH STUDIO. It is small application which comes with KLite codec pack. (maybe it is available as standalone too or with other codec packs too).
When you start it just drag'n drop an AVI file into it and it will automatically build the graph for it. Graph is network of nodes where each node represent one of used codec for interpretation of used file.
Remember, graph auto-created here will be exact the same as windows creates in background when some editor or player opens file.
Usually, AVI file has FILE SOURCE node connected to AVI_SPLITTER node which separate audio and video streams from source file. It is then connected to some video decompressor and audio decompressor which are REAL CODECS. Play button alows to test the graph. If video plays fine then everything is ok but if something is corrupted or video is not in right aspect then you have to do following:
    1. To try ffdshow codec you'll have to select and delete your video codec from the graph
    2. Manually insert ffdshow video decoder node (Graph->Insert filter->ffdshow video decoder)
    3. connect it in the graph as your previous deleted node was connected (stream0 from AVIsplitter to IN of ffdshow node and OUT from ffdshow node to IN of your video renderer)
    4. test such graph by playing it
This is just a test and will not reflect any changes in windows. If now you get your video properly works you'll have to change the MERIT of codec you are replaced by ffdshow.
    To do that:
    1. Close graph editor
    2. Reopen it and again drag'n drop your AVI file into it
    3. Remember the name of node you want to replace with ffdshow
    4. Find it in the list of all filters installed on the system (click Graph->Insert filter and find it in the list of all filters then just select it and click button CHANGE MERIT and chose DO_NOT_USE)
    5. Also in the same list find ffdshow video decoder, select it and turn on check box FAVORITE FILTER (you may also want to increase it's merrit)
Now close the graph editor. Open it agin and drag'n drop same AVI file. If auto-created graph now contains ffdshow video decoder, everything is fine.
If you get some other codec (it is possible if you had installed let say 4 codecs for H264 video.... you disable only one, 3 are still available and some of these could have larger MERIT value than ffdshow. Don't worry, just test graph with such codec. It is possible to work fine. If not disable it on the same way you did with previouse.)
Graph Studio has many interesting options you can play it like performance testing, experiment with your own graphs making outputs goes to disk instead of screen etc. You can also sve your graphs and use it ie. for conversion from one format to another etc.
    I hope this help.
At the end sorry for my English, it is not my mother tongue language.

  • Datasheet says Camileo P10 saves as .mov but the device saves as .avi

    I just rec'd a P10 as a gift for Christmas.
Looking at the specs on the online Datasheet and elsewhere the sources say that that the P10 saves video files as .mov but the device I have can only save them as as .avi files. However the box itself does say that it saves pictures as jpg and video as avi (H.264)
And I had to search the Internet for a long time to find a safe CoreAAC Audio (FF) codec file to allow Windows Media Player to play the avi file with sound.
    What happened? Why this change?
NB I did find one specification sheet online that said that the camera had both .mov and .avi formats. If this is true how do we access a menu that can allow us to switch between file formats?

    Hi,
i've had the same problem recently.
I have sent back my camileo p30, to Toshiba technical center, and Toshiba shipped me back a new Camileo P30 (the old one was having troubles with the sound).
My new camileo is recording in .avi with H264 compression, and the old one was recording in .mov with H264 compression.
This .avi H264 format is not compatible with my video software (pinnacle studio 12), the .mov H264 was perfectly compatible.
So it seems to be the fault of the newest firmware that encodes the video with this format.
*_If Toshiba staff could make a firmware with the old format .mov h264 , for the camileo p30, it would be great !!!!!_*
PS : I have tried with the pinnacle studio hd 14, and the problem of compatibility is still the same....

  • Mini DVR Records in .AVI and .MOV Format-white screen

I am a private investigator, and have used a mac for years. I purchased my new MacBook 2 weeks ago for the purpose of uploading the video to my mac, and burning the video to DVD for my clients.
I just purchased a JS208 Mini DVR and Mini Spy Button Cam. I.E. its a generic chinese product, but I was told that since it records in .AVI and .MOV format, I could either plug in the SV card (with the video from the mini DVR) or plug the USB cord into the computer and upload the video.
When I plug in the DVR, iPhoto recognizes that a .MOV is available. It downloads.
However, once downloaded, and opened on Quicktime, no sound and white screen.
When I click on Command I, This is what i see:
    Source: /Users/sammythepug/Desktop/MPEG0002.MOV
    Format: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 640 x 480, Millions
    Microsoft ADPCM, Stereo, 12.000 kHz
    FPS: 30
    Playing FPS: (Available while playing)
    Data size: 2.28MB
    Data Rate: 2336.00 kbits/s
    Current Time: 0:00:00:00.00
    Duration: 0:00:00:08.20
    Normal Size: 640 x 480 pixels
    Current Size: 640 x 480 pixels (Actual)
I spent an hour on the phone with Mac Support, and they told me to download MPEG StreamClip. I really don't know what I am doing at this point, because everyone told me it would be easy...HELP!!

    Here are the DVR Specs:
    Digital Screen: 1.5" TFT LCD
    Recording Formats: AVI, ASF, MOV
    Recording Resolution: 640x480, 480x240, 160x120 pixels
    Frame Rate: 30 FPS
    Built in Flash: 45MB
SUB Jack: High Speed USB 2.0
    Mini Cam Specs:
    Picup device: 1/3" color CMOS
    System: PAL/NTSC/ EIA
    Horizontal Definition: 420 TV Lines
    Minimum Illumination: 3 Lux
    Dimensions: 27x27x8mm
    Power Supply DC 5V
I am also open to recommendations for other cameras that may work. The DVR has to be smaller than a pack of cigarettes, and has to be compatible with the mini button camera.

  • I have a video in .avi format, what format do I need to convert to, to play on my DVD recorder, please can anyone help?

I have a video in .avi format, but what format do I need to convert to, to play on my DVD recorder, please can anyone help?

tylerfrombalantine's post had zero grammar in it, so it's not clear what he's saying. I bought a DVD recorder and the instruction manual lists all the disc formats it can play. Check your DVD recorder manual to see what works with it, then burn a DVD that matches. It should be fine to burn just a standard DVD, since of course any DVD player can play that.
Depending on the program you use, you may not have to convert anything manually. The program might convert your current video format to DVD on fly as it burns the disc.

  • Continuos acquisition video and record video in AVI format

    Hello,
I want to make a continuos acquisition of video with a webcam and record video in AVI format with a number of frames per second equal to 60, and with a possibility to choose the period of acquisition in the window '' front panal '' but the problem is that when I selected an acquisition time of 1 minute supervision
video takes a time of 1 minute but I get an AVI video recorded with a duration of 15 seconds !!
    Attachments:
    1 caméras.vi ‏40 KB

I'm sorry, you didn't understand what I wanted you to do.  You might have "done the right thing", but I can't be sure.  Your original program (as I understood it) recorded images from the camera for a fixed period of time that you set (so you knew the recording time) -- what I wanted to know for the original camera was (a) what was the recording time and (b) how many frames were taken.
The second program that you just attached does the opposite -- it records a fixed number of frames (a better way to do this is to use a FOR loop and just wire 900 to N in the upper left hand corner).  If you are going to record a fixed number of frames, then I want to know how much time it takes to record.  You can do this by doing something like what is shown below (with the FOR loop example).
I realize that this is in the "wrong" version of LabVIEW, but it just involves adding two Tick Count functions to your Camera loop.  If it does say that Delta-t = 15000 (15 seconds), then the main question, "Is the camera recording at 60 FPS", is answered as "Yes".  In any case, we should have enough data to make your code work as you want it to.

  • Camileo S10 - Arcsoft doesn't recognize any files on SD card & internal memory

I have just bought a Camileo s10 camcoder.
So far i was satisfied with the product till i connected it to my pc (vista fully compatible with recommendations).
I installed the Arcsoft software but i never got any file imported because *the program recognised both sd and internal memory as empty*(i could play the files in the camera's player as well as from my pc's card reader ).
I used other similar suites with no luck.I then tried to format the sd hc 8gb card and restore my files but unluckily i noticed *the video/foto files were not recognised, at that time, even from the camera* .
Another serious concern is that i had an hd(720p) .mov file from a trailer in my memory card and the camera could not see it (+i wanted to use the camcoder as a high def player connected to my sony full hd tv+).
I have searched for answers almost anywhere but so far i got no response

Actually thanks for the advice.I tried those you mentioned and i finally(partially at least) found out that in the sd card and internal memory folders *there where 2 folders* with the same name(100MEDIA.. something)
One was recognised as an application and the other as a folder. The folder was a hidden file permanently so i supposed this was the reason so my first concern is answered.I found it really weard though!
I made the format inside the camera. You mentioned a higher class card.Would this improve something specifically?I observed that i have class 4 SD hc.
*My main worry now is to recognise the recording format of this camera so i can convert other video formats to it.And so far nobody seems to know as everybody is interested in editing recorded videos and not in reproducing.
    Thank you for your answer

  • Camileo S10 - how to change the aspect ratio to 16:9

Does anyone know how to change the aspect ratio when making movies with the arcsoft software included with the S10!!!!!
    Won't let me select 16:9 only 4:3!!!
Not sure why as when you play the recording back directly through the telly it does it in 16:9 so I know it's being recorded in the right ratio!!

You cannot change the aspect ratio because you record at full hd 1080. The S10 records in format 1440/1080 at full hd, wich means 4/3. The S10 is not capable to record in full hd at 1920/1080 (this is 16/9 full hd). It is simple:
Camileo S10 record 1440 pixels on horizontal and 1080 pixels on vertical. The aspect ratio is 4/3.
Answer for your question: if you want to see in 16/9 format use HD2 (720p) for recording.
    Bye.

  • Any camcorders that save video in QuickTime format?

I love the QuickTime .MOV format and it is far superior to Windows Media stuff on the PC. I would like to buy a very simple camcorder that will save the video on a memory card or something. So that when I pull these video clips into iTunes or QuickTime, I won't have to do any converting of file formats.
Can someone suggest a little recorder that will do this? I don't need one with lots of bells and whistles.
    Thanks.

Most modern video cameras record to DV Stream (onto tape). These files are brought into iMovie, edited and exported to QuickTime formats. Some record to DVD disc as MPEG-2 format which do not (easily) allow any editing but play back on your computer or through a set top box.
Most newer digital cameras also allow recording of short video clips. Dozens of formats and some that are hard to edit on a Mac. May use the ancient .avi container and many also only work on PC's.
For iMovie editing or importing for conversion you want a camera that includes a Firewire connection. Lots of different names (Sony calls it iLink).
You really don't want a camera that does the compression to a format for you. You want the "raw" file so you can edit and then convert without losing quality.
Any iSight camera can also be used with QuickTime Pro to record to .mov format. If you own an iSight you need only move up to QT Pro ($30).

  • How do I import movies with an AVI format taken with a digital SLR?

How do I import movies with an AVI format taken with a digital SLR?

If you cannot import using File Menu > Import Movies... You'll have to convert them on a Mac.
You will need to use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
Basically, you drag the .mts file into MPEG Streamclip. Then use FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your codec. And it will save out to a .mov file and iMovie will edit this format like there was no tomorrow

  • Re: Camileo S10 - very slow when SD card is in.

My Camileo S10 was working fine for months with my 8GB ScanDisk Ultra II memory card.
Now, when I start the camera it is very slow to start and to operate (a few seconds delay for each operations).
When I remove the SD card and trun on the camera, it works fine.
    Is it a known problem?
    Any idea for me?
    thanks.

    Hi
For me it looks like a problem with the inserted SD card.
I think you should try to format the CD card and should check it again.
If this will not help and if you will not notice any performance improvement then you should replace the SD card and should try with a new one.

  • Movie in Mpeg or AVI format

    Hello,
I am a first time user of this forum.
I made a small slideshow/movie in iMovie to be shown during an upcoming church service and burned it in iDVD. The fellow responsible for the presentation would like the movie in either Mpeg or AVI format. He will loose too much picture quality if he transfers from the DVD. I can not find how to do this with my computer.
    Erika1
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If you have QuickTime Pro, you should be able to create a .avi file from the File->Share... menu item in iMovie. From the "share" dialog, pick "QuickTime" across the top, and select "Expert Settings" from the drop-down menu for "Compress movie for:", then click "Share".
Once you get that, you'll be presented with a dialog from QTPro that will ask you where you want to save it and, in the bottom, there will be two drop-downs for "Export:" and "Use:". Click on the "export:" drop-down and you'll be presented with all your export choices--hopefully among that will be AVI. Mine has MPEG-4, but I'm not sure if that's what your presentation person means when they say "MPEG".
    Good luck!

  • Movies in .AVI format and is not recognized. Help!

I have movies in .AVI format but iphoto and Quicktime won't recognize them. How do I convert the movie clips? and to what format? I tried MPEG Streamclip and it converted it to .mov clips but it only converted the audio not the video. How can i get both?  I tried to "save as" to other formats and that didn't work either. Please help!
    Thanks!

You can try a free program call Handbrake to convert the videos. It works great. I've been using it for years. If you only want to be able to paly these videos, try the VLC Player from Video LAN. It'll play everything.
My favorite video convetor at the moment is Wondershare but it is not free.

  • Problem charging Camileo S10

    Hi all Toshiba users!!
I've just bought a Camileo S10 camera, and it looks apretty nice, small and light. But it doesn't seem to charge the battery, neither power on. Here's how I've proceeded:
    1) I removed the insulant from the battery, and put it again, closing the case.
    2) I plugged it in with its own charger, which uses the USB connector.
    3) Circle LED around the "Record" button lights on (but doesnt blink as stated in manual).
    4) When 5 minutes pass, the LED powers off and never lights on again.
Is this normal behaviour? Because when I try to power on the camera, it just does nothing. I tried flipping the LCD screen and also tried with power button, with USB charger disconnected. Camera doesnt react at all. When I power on with charger connected it works correctly.
    Thanks for your help!

I've exactly the same charging problem with my new S10 camcorder.
I've removed the insulating film from the battery, but when I insert it again in the S10 and I plug the charger, the LED light doesn't blink: it just lights on (in red) for a few minutes and then simply lights OFF without ever charging.
Even with the charger connected, i couldn't power on the camera.
How do you solved that problem?
Did you find a solution, or you just asked your local dealer to exchange a supposedly damaged item?
Please, let me know how you did handle that.
    Thanks.
