Can 10g release 2 standalone database control behaves as 9i oem

Hi all,
My question is ,in 9i we have oem,we can add multiple databases in 9i oem.At the same time we can login to multiple databases and see different sessions,OS user, memory information, storage information of different databases. Can we perform the same task with 10g EM database control without having the 10g EM grid control.I know by 10g grid control we have a centralized management. But I don't want to install 10g grid control ,I want to make use of 10g database control and monitor my different databases.I wprked in an distributed environment.
Best Regards,
Asma Akhter.

Hi,
BY installing intelligent agent on separate servers and oracle management server ,it means I have to install EM grid control.I don't want to install Em grid control.I need to monitor different databases as we do in 9i OEM .Is there any option to use 10g database control to perform the same task.
Regards,
Asma

• I can not access to "Database Control - Sid_Name" in 10g

Hi there.
I have installed "Oracle Database 10g" (10.2.0.1) in Windows 2000 Advance Server SP4.
All was Ok, and then I've created a new instance called "BDGPC".
Then, in "start menu" -> "Oracle" I can see "Database Control - BDGPC".
It goes to http:/myIP:1158/em/ but when it open the browser, it shows nothing, a absolutly blank page. It dont shows any error message. Only white page.
I have other Oracle 10g in other server, and it runs. But I didnt installed these Oracle.
So, I installed the "Database" from CD called "Oracle Database 10g". I need install another thing to run Database control?
Why I see a blank page when I launch Database Control?
Thanks in advance!

Well, firstly the output was similar that "ORACLE_SID is not defined".
So I set ORACLE_SID=mySID.
Then I think it runs but I must enter in http://myIP:1158/em/console/
Dont run http://myIP:1158/em/
And first only runs in Firefox and dont in IExplorer 6. I dont know why, some ideas?
In adiction, when I logon in "Database Control" throught Firefox, first times then it shows "404 not found". But when I tried it again it seems thats runs.
Thanks again.

• Cloning 10g db from database control

Hi, i was creating a clone db in vm environmnet. in step 2, i mentioned the 2nd machines host name and cliked on GO to detect the host, but it does nothing.
-I can ping /TELNET vm2 from vm1,
-credential for host are tested.
-tested backup from em db control on vm1
-on vm2, the administrator is included in batch logon policy
What could be the problem?
plz guide.

no errors.
when i mention vm1 (the source) and click go , it reads and show oracle home informations and i can continue next to end, but i want to clone on vm2.
plz advise

• Using Imp utility to Import a database on 10g release 2

I am using the Imp Utility on 10g release 2 to import from a 10g release 1 database. I have created a new tablesapce and need the dmp to be imported to the new tablespace. But it goes and imports to the system tablespace. The command i use is
imp <User name>/<password> file=<file_name> log =<log name> full=Yes
the user name and password i use is the username and password i gave in the installation for system tables. When i specify the tablespace imp <User name>/<password>@<tablespace> it comes with "ORACLE error 12154 encountered".
Do i need to create a new user to get the import done. How do i create it?

The contents of the dump will be imported to the tablespace under which you run the import.
If your dump from Oracle 10G R1 is a complete database dump and you need to import the data of a specific user in the dump, then you can use fromuser= touser= options in the import command.
If your Oracle 10GR2 database is blank, then you need to create the user in which you can import the data. You can use a command like this.
CREATE USER sidney
IDENTIFIED BY out_standing1
DEFAULT TABLESPACE example
QUOTA 10M ON example
TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
Note: sidnye, out_standing1, example, temp are all arbitrary names. You need to match these with your environment.

• Access to EM Database Control

I can enter in EM Database Control with the following directions:
http://192.168.0.5:1158/em http://localhost:1158/em http://127.0.0.1:1158/em
But not with the http://nshcare_server:1158/em direction where to nshcare_server it is the name of host (machine_name).
When introducing the user and the password, return to appear the screen again of login without showing no error. If, for example, an incorrect password is introduced, appears a message of error.
Why does not work putting the name of host?
Thanks.

• OWB on Oracle 10G Release 2

Dear all,
I planned to use an Oracle 10G Release 2 database for a new OWB project. Research on the web just told me that this new version of the database does not support OWB, because of a check for DBA privileges.
The website advises to either use an earlier version of the database (10g R1) or wait for the release of the 10.1.0.4 patch for OWB.
Is this patch available at this moment? If so, can anyone tell me where I can download it? If not, does anyone know when this patch will be released?
Thanks in advance
Paul Versluis

Hi,
I have installed 10.1.0.4 OWB on Suse 9.3 and Suse 10 x86.
I sent correction notes to Oracle Documentation team as there were a few errors for the Linux Install.
More importantly i found in 10.1.0.4 one of the key install shell scripts will never work as the coders forgot to export a JAVAPATH variable meaning the script could never find the JRE
Good to see ORACLE test the installation of their releases
When i get back from Bew Year holiday i will send you my notes if you like
regards

• Oracle Enterprise Manager can't connect to database after installation

Hello, I have a problem with Enterprise Manager. I installed Oracle 10g and the patch 10.2.0.2. After install, I could connect to database from SqlPlus without problems, but when I try to connect from AllPrograms - Oracle - DatabaseControl or since the Web browser with http://servername:1158/em nothing happen. I reviewed the status of dbconsole with emctl status dbconsole but the status is running. I recreated the repository with emca -deconfig.......-repos drop and emca -config ...... -repos create , but nothing happened. I reviewed some threads in this forum, but I didn't find the solution. Finally I could connect from the browser but with http://localhost:1158/em. Do you help me how can I connect from Database Control, because the operators in Computer Center should monitor the instance since there, and when I want to connect since my own PC how can do it?
Thanks for your help and excuse my English, I am from Bogotá Colombia.
Sincerely Rubén

Hi,
Check the network connectivity between db server and pc from where u want to access em.
Check the listener service.
Check firewall settings, it should be off.

Part Number B40007-01
- Basically I copied the SNMP Receivelet code from the guide into a plug-in.
I was able to load the plug-in without any error messages, but no alerts are raised
when I send a trap.
- Could someone please tell me what port the snmp receivelet listens on?
- I tried ports: 3002, 1830, 3872 and 8002.
- Port 3002 was obtained from emd.properties
- Port 1830 was obtained from the OEM console
- What condition is necessary for agent to receive SNMP traps?
- My agent environment is:
[oracle@blade bin]$ ./emctl status agent

Looks like this was also posted 4 messages above ... follow the anwers there.
Please only post the question once ... reposted will not get any answers you wouldn't have gotten anyway.
That just makes it hard for other users to follow all the information.

• Database control in a cluster environment

Hello DBA's
Is it possible to use the database control in a windows cluster with oracle fail safe? I haven't found any documentation to this topic (only with RAC).
I have two possibility's:
1. To use it as a cluster service where I could connect with the clustername/IP address?
Yet couldn't configure it right by my own.
2. To use it as normal service where allways the active note can connect to the database control? (Problem with the Host-Names because each note has there own)
I use Oracle 10.1.0.4 database with NO grid control only em database control.

I found a Metalink entry how you can configure the Oracle Enterprise Manager in a FailSafe Environment but only for Grid Control:
Note:396659.1 How To Setup Grid Control Central Agent Manually in Oracle Failsafe Environment
Is there a script/guide to do it with the local "enterprise manager database control"?
Replying to mnazi: Ok it is an overview and they mean that it is better to implement the enterprise manager to a management server but I couldn't found any hot information in the documentation to that. Maybe you know further info's?

• OEM Grid or Database Control???

Am currently on an aix server moving from 10gR2 to 11gR2 Oracle Enterprise. Have been reading and finding that documentation from Oracle liberally uses the name OEM grid and Database Control as best practices. I realize that both own their own repositories, but can they co-exist?
My second question other than for having a one-stop shop, is there a reason for OEM Grid vs Database Control? Does one hold some functionality that the other doesnt?
My third question , is if using OEM grid, should i be load balancing across multiple servers and or DataGuarding the database that houses the repository.
Thanks in advance
Ed Grimm

Yes, OEM Grid Control and Database Control can co-exist.
Database Control allows you to do Database administration tasks on one local database only, namely the database it is installed on.
OEM Grid Control allows you to manage all components within a datacenter (or you could say within the network). So you can actually manage all you databases, application servers, servers, listeners, network components, hardware, Storage Devices, Applications (klike Siebel, Pepoplesoft, E-Business, Forms apps etc.etc).
So no limitations.
Functionality include: Provisioning of complete clusters databases, virtual machines etc
Service Level Management
Application Management
Configuration Management
Change Management
The answer to your 3-rd question depends on what availability level you need to implement for the repository, so not different from any other HA - database implementation.
Notmally in a produciton situation you would use multiple Managemetn Servers and a RAC based repository, in that case using load balacners makes sense.

Rob

• Check "Problem: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 can only be installed in new

Hi All
Installing 10g software on AIX Box in /oracle/oraHome2,where oracle9i is already installed in /oracle/oraHome1 and oracle inventory is in /oracle/inventory
In product specific prerequisite screen I am getting the
check:Oracle Home incompatibilties is failed I am getting the error
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Passed
=======================================================================
Checking for Oracle Home incompatibilities ....
Actual Result: Oracle9i Database 9.2.0.1.0
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 can only be installed in a new Oracle Home
Recommendation: Choose a new Oracle Home for installing this product
though I am installing it in different oracle homes why i am getting this error?
Is it because 10g installation is picking the same oracle inventory /oracle/inventory
do i need to make different oracle inventory for different oracle homes???????plz confirm..is thats the reason i am getting this error??????
Thanks inadvance
Gagan

I figure out you are trying to install 10gR2 on top of an existing 9iR2 Oracle Home. This is corrected at the Path definition window. Most probably you just click on the <Next> and by default the 9iR2 Oracle Home was selected. You must define a new oracle home for the 10gR2 install.

• Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.3.0

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.3.0 is one hour behiend on AIX 5.3.
I have installed the new timezone version 4 already by oracle DST path database is good OEM main page is showing one hour behiend.
I have done every possible effort last thing may be i have to update java home i have 1.4 IBM java on the server.
Please help me in this. Thanks.

See the Metalink Note *Impact Document for Daylight Saving Time Shift for Enterprise Manager Grid Control [ID 417939.1]* Appendix B - FAQ - point 18
What is the impact of not patching the JDK on the OMS for 10g Grid Control?
If you do not patch the JDK on the OMS page refreshed times and possibly other times displayed in the console will be incorrect (they will be off by 1 hour) during an affected period.
Oracle strongly recommends that you do patch the OMS JDK but we are not aware of any data corruption in the repository nor of any impact on critical EM functionalities (such as severities, notifications and jobs) when the JDK is not patched.

Hi Rafael
Did you change your shm values in the kernel ? Please check those values in 2.6 Configuring Kernel Parameters
64 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#i1011296
32 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref264
Note that you have to increase : semmni, semmns, shmmni should be multiplied by # of instances, SHMMAX should be set to avail memory
Can you please give us your values from your server please?
Your physical memory :
grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo
And also the result of
ipcs -l

• Available Now: Oracle Database Lite 10g Release 1

The Oracle Database Lite development team is pleased to announce the availability of Oracle Database Lite 10g (10.0.0.0.0) for Windows 2000/XP, Solaris 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 2.1/3.0 platforms.
The Windows release is currently available from OTN at:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/lite/index.html
Oracle Database Lite 10g is a complete and integrated solution for rapid development and deployment of high impact, mission vital applications for mobile and lightweight embedded environments. Oracle Database Lite is an extension to Oracle Database 10g for enterprises wanting to increase productivity, reduce operational costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
Oracle Database Lite uses data synchronization to reliably and securely exchange data between a corporate Oracle Database and mobile workers. Oracle Database Lite also allows companies to deploy and manage users, mobile applications and devices from a remote central location. Oracle Database Lite provides the necessary framework enterprise customers need to extend their enterprise applications and data to the most popular mobile platforms: Palm OS, Linux, Microsoft Windows CE/PPC, and Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP/UNIX.
The following is a partial list of new features for Oracle Database Lite 10g that will make your mobile deployment easier to manage, use, and develop. A complete list will be available for download/viewing soon.
Device Management
As the number of mobile devices in an enterprise increases, it becomes more important to have complete control of the devices. Oracle Database Lite Device Management is a complete infrastructure to monitor and manage Oracle Database Lite assets such as database files, software libraries, data, and application files on remote devices. Device management decreases the total cost of ownership and protects an enterprises intellectual property.
Single Oracle Lite Binary
The Oracle Database Lite 10g release contains a single set of Oracle Lite database kernel binaries for all languages, removing the necessity of having different binaries for each of the following languages: Korean, Traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and US/European languages.
Shared Map
The shared map function greatly improves performance by reducing sync processing timeand enhances the scalability of shared publication items. Shared maps allow users to share record state information and reduce the size of the resulting replication map tables.
Offline Instantiation
Offline instantiation enables quick and easy setup of mobile devices for business applications. Mobile administrators are able to prepare, in batch mode, a client package, which includes the mobile client software and initial data for every mobile user. This procedure helps users avoid an expensive online synchronization processes as part of the first time mobile client setup procedure.
Synchronization Manager
The Synchronization Manager is a complete, web-based enterprise management application to manage and monitor synchronization. The Synchronization Manager allows administrators to manage the synchronization service, monitor and analyze sync performance, administer the configuration, trace synchronization history, display and browse synchronization publication and subscription information, and monitor MGP (Message Generator and Processor) performance.
Oracle Application Server Support
The Oracle Database Lite 10g Mobile Server now runs as a web application on Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J) – the runtime of Oracle Application Server. If Oracle
Database Lite 10g is deployed in standalone mode, an embedded version of OC4J will be installed and used. Oracle Database Lite may also be installed against an existing instance of Oracle Application Server.
Seamless upgrade from Oracle9 i Lite 5.0.2
The Oracle Database Lite 10g Upgrade Assistant allows customers to easily upgrade from existing Oracle9 i Lite 5.0.2 installations. The Upgrade Assistant automatically converts existing application definitions to the new format, and copies all relevant files to the new installation. As many customers have deployed mission critical systems using Oracle9i Lite technology, the Upgrade Assistant has been designed to minimize system downtime.
Download
Oracle Database Lite 10g (10.0.0.0.0) for Windows can now be downloaded from the following location.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/lite/index.html

I am using Oracle 10g lite. Do you know if it supports silent installation.
