Can 2 networks have the same SSID?

I have myself a Cisco 340 series Aironet Access Point and a PC card. I want to
achieve a seamless roaming scenario between 2 networks.
I would like to know whether networks A and B, each having subnets as
111.111.xxx.xxx and 111.112.xxx.xxx respectively, can have the same SSID? I
want a mobile user to be able to be in all 2 networks, but only receive
information from the one network which it is within range.

This depends on the OS on the client devices. Win2K and higher will automatically renew IP address information if a user roams into a new IP subnet. There is a relatively significant delay, however (~5sec. until it attempts a renewal).
If these networks are near each other (i.e. in the same building), you may be better served by building a single VLAN for your wireless network. A single wireless VLAN will offer some significant benefits related to security, mobility and manageability.
If these networks are not near each other, or if users will likely be shutting down their machines while moving from one network to another, the IP addressing will not be an issue.

  • Can two Iphones have the same account/email address?

Can two iphones have the same account/email address? I bought two phones-one for my wife and the other for myself. They are both under the same account /itunes account /email address-Would this cause a conflict with the two phones?

No, as long as you want to share the same account for iCloud's services like Mail, Calendars, Contacts, Reminders, Notes, iCloud, Documents etc.
I personally would create two accounts so that everyone could have and use  heir own mail account, address book, create meetings, reminders etc. without reading and deleting stuff of the other person.

  • TS3899 Can two people have the same email address and password on their phone?

Can two people have the same email address and password on their phone?

I guess so.    But the email content will mirror on both phones.
If you are talking about your Apple ID and iCloud email, yes, it is possible, but again the phones will mirror.   You should not have the same Apple ID and iCloud both.
    Why?
If you explain the reason for the question we may have a solution that works for you.

Not without buying them from the new iTunes Store account.

  • WHERE DO I FIND THE IP ADDRESS AND CAN 2 PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ADDRESS?

MY EMAIL WAS HACKED INTO IN APRIL, I CHANGED PASSWORD, I PUT IN EXTRA SECURITY ON FACEBOOK WHO THEN SENT EMAIL EVERY TIME I SIGNED IN STATING MY SECURITY CODE, TIME, IP ADDRESS AND CITY AND STATE (CEDAR RAPIDS IA AND I AM FROM FAIRHOPE AL). I WAS HACKED INTO AGAIN IN MAY, CHANGED MY PASSWORD AGAIN AND DEACTIVATED MY FACE BOOK ACCT. SO FAR NO MORE HACKING INTO MY EMAIL. I VERIFIED MY IP ADDRESS AND WANT TO KNOW HOW SOMEONE ELSE FROM A DIFFERENT PART OF THE COUNTRY CAN HAVE THE SAME IP ADDRESS.

You can find the IP address at:  Settings > General > Network tap your network (blue circle with > in it) and voila, your IP address Subnet Mask, Router, DNS, etc. will be listed.

  • How can two networks from the same router be showing up at once?

Very confused here.   I hooked up the linksys wrt54g and obviously it showed up as an available network.  It is hard wired into one computer.
I then (on an unwired computer) went into the router to rename the network and reset the password.
Now, when I check for available networks, both are present (linksys and the renamed one)?  How can this be?
Also, the linksys network has five bars connectivity and the new one I renamed only has two.  How is that possible?
    Thanks

    1. Always configure your router from a wired connection. Never through a wireless connection. The wired connection is the only reliable way to be sure your configure your router and not a different one.
    2. Vista and Windows 7 allow you to name a wireless connection different then the "SSID" used on the router. It also allows you to set up two wireless connections using the same SSID. Clean up the list of preferred networks on your computer. That should take care of this.

  • Can 2 vlans have the same subnet?

I hope the combined genius of the fellow community can answer me this. I am new to Cisco, and I understand VLANs as a physical boundary separating broadcast domains.
I was wondering if it is possible to divide 1 subnet (192.168.1.0) into two separate VLANS? I have all layer 3 switches in my environment. Making matters worse, there would be no pattern for the IP address assignments into VLAN-A vs. VLAN-B..
If this is possible, can you please explain the mechanisms for a successful implementation.

It mostly depends if/how you want hosts on them to talk one another (or other networks).
If the answer is "not at all" then you can have as many VLANs as you like using the same subnet.
If the answer is "completely" then you have to either a. break your addressing (L3) down to have one set of hosts in subnet A (on vlan a) and the others in subnet b (on VLAN b). or b. have some fancy tricks in place with network address translation (NAT) in place.
I'll leave the latter solution off as beyond the scope of your question.
For the former, you would just change your subnet mask - for example, if the classful subnet is a "standard" /24 (255.255.255.0) then split it in two - /25 or 255.255.255.128. Assign hosts in one or the other.
You have to have some pattern - all networking is based on patterns in some way or another.

  • How can multiple computers have the same library?

My family has one iTunes account, but our iTunes library is different on every computer. Our iPods are each synced with a different computer. How can we have one library with all of our purchases together? We use the same account, so it doesn't make sense that the music purchased on my laptop won't show up on our home desktop. Each of our iPods are synced to a different computer.

    No.
Iphone will sync with one and only one computer a a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.

  • IPhoto '09 version 8.1.2. can two macs have the same library?

I am running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and have an iMac and a MacAir. How do I have one photo library, say on the iMac, that is then replicated onto the MacAir?

There are two ways to "sync" the two libraries.
#1 - with the two Macs connected download and use  SyncPhotos
    Here's how it works:
it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
it then does the same for B.
    metadata is not copied.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired. It will work with 2 libraries that are different versions, i.e. between an iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09 library.  This method does not require you to make the decision of which photos to sync.
NOTE:  this method does not sync keywords, titles, ranking or descriptions.
#2 -  download and use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy the Events in Library A that are not in LIbrary B to Library B.  Then select those Events in Library B that are not in A and copy to A.
This method requires you to make the determination which photos (Events) to copy between libraries.  It does copy all metadata, keywords, titles, etc. as well as Faces and Places.

  • How can someone else have the same iCloud email address as me?

I registered for my iTools account as soon as they were offered and have had the same email address ever since.
My account has not been hacked and I regularly change my password for the account.
I frequently get emails from Apple notifying me that someone has attempted a password reset on my account.
I have over the past two years received a steady stream of emails correctly addressed to me, but obviously meant for other folks.
Some in the US and others in Europe and beyond.
The emails contain payslips, mortgage offers, confirmation of appointments for restaurants and car servicing.
Having read these and many other forums, I believe Apple, like Google allow the use of the same email address by multiple people.
This may be because even if the desired mac.com or iCloud.com or me.com addresses are unavailable, Apple allows an alias to be created.
This should not be the case.  At least to my mind it should not be so.
I am most concerned that if I am able to receive their emails, they may be receiving mine.
I pay for Apple's services and expect them to be secure.
Anyone else feeling uneasy about this?

It's most unlikely that anyone else has your address: if your address (obviously don't post it here) uses a fairly common name as many of the early ones do, then you are liable to get idiots coming to the conclusion that they own it because their name is the same. They give it out, and you get their messages. It sounds insane, but it does happen quite a bit - people can be quite incredibly stupid.
It's unlikely that anyone is receiving your email, particularly as you've changed the password. You should contact Apple as even if it's the case I've described it counts as a security issue, though it's not that easy to see what can be done about it.
This Apple Help page provides contact information for various countries for security problems with an Apple ID:

  • Can 2 users have the same email login with different passwords for seperate itunes accounts

My daughter is currently using the home email address for her account and i have just purchased an ipad. I would like a seperate account. Is it possible to use the same email address as the login and have two accounts.
    Thanks
Tracey (a mum who is trying to catch up with technology)

It is possible to have two different Apple ID accounts and have a common contact email address, if that is what you are asking. The potential problem is that the Apple ID is in the form of an email address so it can cause some confusion. It would probably be best to actually own the email addresses that match the account IDs.

  • Why can't I have the same apple ID for iCloud and iTunes?

After down loading the latest upgrade on my 5s, the iCloud Apple ID (which is an email address I don't use) keeps asking me for a password that I don't have.  When I change it to a new password (I've done it 4 times) it keeps going back to the password is incorrect.  I've tried to restore the phone to factory settings and that still doesn't work. I have no problem with my Itunes ID or password so I don't know how to change the iCloud ID or password so it can be the same ID and password for iTunes.  Can someone help me bc I'm about to go crazy!

I'm not entirely clear about which Apple ID you are describing. Is this the ID for Settings/iCloud? You say it isn't an email you use. But was it an email you ever used? Or is it one you don't recognize? If you used it in the past you can reset your Apple ID to it temporarily (https://appleid.apple.com), log out, then log back in with the new one. If you forgot the password you can attempt to find it at https://iforgot.apple.com. As a fallback you can contact Apple Account Security at Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security - Apple Support.
If you are not the first owner of the phone and the Apple ID is NOT one that you have ever used the phone is Activation Locked to the previous owner, and only the previous owner can unlock it. • Can two iPhones have the same number?

Can I have one phone number work simultaneously for two phones? I'm always forgetting to take my phone with me, and would like to keep one permanently in my purse. The idea is to keep my old iPhone4s and buy an iPhone6, but assign both of them the same phone number. Can it be done?
    Thanks!

As @Csound1 mentions Google Voice, I will mention that my primary phone number is my Google Voice number. It is set to forward all of my calls to my cell, my home and my office simultaneously. When I answer on any of them it drops the remaining connections. It can also send and receive texts (and forward them to my phones), and it transcribes voicemail to text and emails the transcript to me. There's an iPhone app for it. When you make outgoing calls with it your GV number is what appears in Caller ID. It can also record calls and make conference calls. There is no monthly charge for using it, and it is free for incoming calls and outgoing calls to the US and Canada. International calls are phenomenally cheap, typically 2¢ per minute. When you sign up you get to choose your number, including choosing your area code.

  • Why can you not have the same Siri voice used in the US version in the UK and Global search should be available

I have just recently purchased the new iPhone 4s and it is great.
I am now using Siri a lot, however I don’t like the fact that in the UK only the man's voice is available.
I think we should have a choice of a Lady / a man assistant and not just a man who's voice is the same/ very similar to the one used for voice control on the iPhone 4.
Now that we all know that Siri is useless without an internet connection then why only allow Siri to search for items, businesses, addresses etc only in the country you’re in i.e. the UK.
Where if you just go onto the internet or use the built in maps application you can search anything you   self without restriction.
I think Apple should really consider thinkingabout this in there next software update for the iPhone 4s.
