Can A 1.25 Ghz MDD be overclocked to run a little faster, but still stable?

Just wondering.
Can't afford a new/newer Mac right now and was wondering if my G4 can be overclocked to run a little faster.
I am looking to eek out a little more performance out of my now 8 year old PowerMac tower.
If it can, how difficult is the procedure to do so.
Will overclocking cause any additional heat issues?
Are there any procedures on the web for doing this?

I agree with Allan. Overclocking is fun for a hobbyist, but you are putting your "work" Machine at risk. Sometimes you kill something.
Creating a Boot drive:
IDE/ATA drives accessed at the same time on shared cables "lock each other out" when they read or write. There is no possibility of overlapping operation. One Big speedup used in the Mac Pro (which can have four independent SATA drives) is to isolate System, Library, Applications, and the hidden UNIX files on a Boot Drive, and move all the Users folders off to another drive.
There are two sets of cables in the Mirrored drive doors G4. The "standing up" drives at the rear are sharing an ATA/100 Bus, and the "lying down" drives toward the front are using an ATA/Bus. If you created a Boot drive and put it in the slightly slower Bus, it would make your work go faster.

Go to the store in iTunes and in the top right click on your account. You can add or remove payment info there.

Hi: Bought a MacBook Pro age circa 2011,works great, except I understand I need to have a Home Folder. I am listed as administrator in the User accounts pref, in fact I'm the only user there. Still in the sidebar when starting up the Mac, there is the former owners Home Folder and not one for me. I want to delete her Home Folder and get one in the sidebar for me. I've tried all the things I could think of the delete her folder, but can't seem to do it as there isn't a button or prompt that I can click on to delete her folder and create one for me as the adminstrator. I'd really appreciate any help with this problem that someone might give me. Carol

If I have understood you properly, to do that, you have to create a new administrator user with your name and for your uses. Follow these steps:
1. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups, and press the + button to create a new administrator account.
2. When you have finished creating that user, open  > Log Out, and log in your new user.
3. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups, select the old user and press the - button to remove the user. If you want, you can select the option to remove the Home folder of this user, so you will only have the Home folder for your account

First of all, as a rule you should have two backups before you do anything else. (most don't, and it's up to you).
I would have one backup done as a Time Machine backup on an external disk, which you will use to import all settings, data and apps to your new MBA via Setup Assistant on your very first boot of the new machine.
Second, I would have prepared, a bootable backup done via Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper on a second external disk. This you can use for unforseen problems that might be evident on the Time Machine backup (hey it happens).
After you have these two items in preparation, then use the original system disk or flash drive to reformat and reinstall the original operating system to the old machine, cleanly. After that, it is ready for sale. If the unit is not an SSD equipped MBA, you can perform a secure wiping of the disk when you perform the reformatting.
To reiterate.... You need a good Time Machine Backup as a source for you setting up the new Mac with Setup Assistant.

I am trying to set up my new business email account (3rd party - netregistry from Australia) [email protected] onto my Thunderbird account.
I have new domain with wordpress exploreyogatravel.com
Trying to get new email onto Thunderbird - have set MX record for netregistry on wordpress. Have manually configured mail account on TB (pop/port/ etc) per netregistry instructions). Have spoken to netregistry on a number of occasions - they now feel it is at the TB or WP end.
TB still can't locate settings for my email account when I manually set up as following and I have wasted so much time on this.
(incoming - pop3 - pop.exploreyogatravel.com - 995 - SSL/TLS - normal password
outgoing - SMTP - smtp.exploreyogatravel.com - 465 - ssl/tls - normal password
username incoming - [email protected] outgoing - same)
Please help what I need to do to get this sorted.

I think your latest issue will reside in your anti virus package.
Disable email scanning. The setup routine tries to connect to the server 8 ways to Sunday to establish the correct settings. The Anti virus program thinks there is mail coming, steps up to the plate and makes a total disaster out of something that was often not all the pretty anyway. To make matters worse, because of the quick fire scanning some then just decide it is malware trying to spam people and blocks it in the firewall.
Next check the firewall (particularly the pesky Norton one if installed) and ensure Thunderbird has full access to the internet. Auto is not sufficient. That is usually what got us where we are, manually fiddling with settings.

Can't open Photoshop CS5 I am required to accept the license agreement but still can't get in ...

I have had the Master Suite CS5 installed on my Macbook Pro for about 3 years now no problems , now it has started asking me to accept the Licence agreement when I try to open any of the applications (Photoshop / iD / Ai etc) .......
but when I click accept it just takes me back to the same window 'Accept / or not the License Agreement - basically going round in circles !! Meanwhile I ahve no access to the software !
I have tried re - installing to no avail ..... , LR 4 and Adobe Bridge still open fine no issues !!
I have carried out full updates of everything, done a system scan with MacKeeper, turned the computer fully off and back on ..... !
Any ideas/ suggestions would be welcome,

Hi Clare, I am having the same problems with my CS5 Design Premium! I got the graphics card replaced in my iMac and since then every time I try to open one of the programs, I get the licence agreement, click accept and it takes me back to the agreement again. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it which worked until I closed one of the programs, then the whole thing started again! If I leave the programs open after I use them it works which I am having to do until I get it sorted! I am just wondering if you managed to get yours working?

Someone froze my ipad and now I can't get on it I have tryed everything that u have said but still not working please help I need it for school tommarow!

I have random spam sites opening up in tabs in firefox. I can't get rid of them. I have run Malwarebytes and Spybot, but they havent found the problem. I have even tried Rkill unsuccessfully. Please Help!

I disabled Sync history with IE , yet every time i look at my history in Firefox it shows all the IE places i visited , how do i stop this , so i can go to only my Firefox history , but still have IE and Firefox synced

I use Firefox and Google Chrome for forums because they are faster than IE as IE(7) tends to hang a lot , so i have all my Favorites and everything synced with Firefox , as this is my main browser , but i do still use IE7 for some browsing , u went to Settings and unchecked the History , in the Sync section , but when i go to Firefox to view a forum topic i was looking at , recently , if i had gone to IE and visited any sites , then they show up in my history (for example Craigslist , i will look at several adds , and ALL of them are in my Firefox History) and push my Firefox history off the list so i have to go back to my favorites and start over , instead of being able to use my Firefox ONLY history so i can just go to those pages
Is there anyway to fix/bypass this but still have Cookies and Favorites and such synced ?? , without the IE History knocking all my Firefox history off the list ??

Apple has a couple of published but still somewhat hidden links to various versions that represent the last version that runs on particular platforms. The Roger Wilmut1's link to 9.1.1 is one of them, for Tiger OS.
However, there are many, many versions still available on servers (at least the last time I tried) but the URLs are not easy to find (I have a list of about 20 versions). They are still on the official Apple server, just no links pointing to them from Apple's pages.
Even though I have Tiger OS I still use iTunes 7.5 Most of the bells and whistles in the newer versions seemed to be for marketing the iTunes Store (which has nothing I want and I prefer the CD at the same price) and garnering data about your music tastes (Genius) but the Store won't work with iTunes 9 anyway. If you're interested in a particular version let me know, otherwise 9.1.1 is the latest for Tiger.

With the iPod still plugged into an external power source, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. This may take 1 or 2 tries.

If you can find an iPhone running iOS5 and those are the specs for iOS5, there is no reason it should not work.
If you want a more current version of iOS or a more current device, a Windows computer is always an option at significantly less cost.
Granted, there is no requirement to have a computer to use an iPhone.

Can a 1.42 GHz processor (MDD FW800) be fitted in a dual 1GHz MDD?

I saw on eBay a couple of these 1.42 for around $180. I noticed that the heat sink is copper-based and different to what my MDD has. Can such modification be done? If so, what thermal paste, etc.?

Perhaps I got caught up in the excitement of "squeezing" as much as I can from my trusty MDD. I'll wait and see if the prices go down.

OS 9.1 won't boot on 1.25 GHz MDD

I have installed OS 9.1 on a partition by itself. I can choose the 9.1 partition in the Startup Disk Control Panel in either 10.4.3 or Classic, but the computer always boots into 10.4.3, or into 10.4.2 that's on a separate hard disk. Seems unwilling to boot 9.1.
I thought the 1.25 GHz MDD was supposed to be capable of booting into OS 9. Any ideas why I can't or how to fix will be greatly appreciated.

There is a Mac OS ROM file in the Mac OS 9.2.2 Update with a version level 8.7. The Mac OS ROM file that came with the MDD G4's (that still boot into OS9) is version 9.5.1 or 9.5.2.
Here's the page that shows you what is required. Annoyingly, it doesn't list the MDD G4:

So if you know someone with a 17" iMac G4 you're in business. (This should have been obvious to me before, as I went into the Apple store in 2002 looking to buy a 17" iMac G4, and came out with my MDD, speakers, 17" studio display, 23" cinema display, etc. A real bargain and £130 rebate from Apple).
So you could try the upgrade to OS9.2.2 from OS9.1, but I can't promise anything. Again, best advice is to borrow someones Install /Restore CDs for the same mac (or iMac). If you got the imac restore cd's you'd have to get all the disk image parts capoied to your hard disk to mount the restore image, you would then be able to copy this 2M file you need.
Another option is to purchase a set of MDD restore CDs from Apple. But try the freebie route first.
