Can a 24" iMac run my 23" HD Display?

Hi,
I have an MacBook Pro and an external 23" HD display that I connect it to at home. I am thinking of getting a 24" iMac, since my MacBook has a hard time running all my photos.
Is it possible to run the display with the iMac so I have two displays? If yes, which options should I opt for when putting together my iMac?
Thanks!
Mc
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, the iMac can drive a display up to 1920x1200 and will work perfectly with the 23" display in either mirrored or extended desktop modes.

Can my 2006 iMac running OS X 10.4.11 be upgraded to move my stuff to the cloud?

    Hi..
Sorry but no. iCloud requires a Mac running v10.7.2.
Read here >  Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
If your Mac meets Lion's requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available spare
You may be able to upgrade your Mac to Lion.

  • Can an intel iMac run OSX Tiger from an external hard drive?

Hi can anyone please tell me if it is possible to run OSX Tiger from an external hard drive on an Intel iMac running OSX 10.5 Leopard or later?
Or is it possible to partition the intel iMac's hard drive and add Tiger?
At the moment I am running Tiger on a partitioned hard drive shared with OSX Leopard and wish to upgrade to an intel Mac. I need tiger to run some software not compatible with newer Macs and also to access OS9 Classic. Thanx for your help.

IF you upgraded from Panther as you know you do not have an Intel based iMac. I beleive the limit of your upgrades on your current machine is going to be Leopard. The system requirements for Snow Leopard are:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply
This is straight from Apple so yes if you want to go beyond Leopard then you must purchase a new machine. My suggestion would be to begin replacing your legacy apps, you are extremely far behind and the longer you wait the more painful it will be to get current.
    Good luck.

  • Can a G3 imac run photobooth?

I was looking to set up a DIY photo booth at my wedding and wanted to use an older imac. If the imac is running Tiger, what are the other specs that Photobooth would need? I have a 2001 M8582LL/A. It's 500Mhz, 512MB ram, 20Gig ATA running 10.4.11. Is it possible to run it on this machine or would the graphics on this be too out of date to handle it?
Also does anyone have a copy of photobooth v.1? My new macbook pro is running v.2... plus it came preinstalled.

    Macbig wrote to Rebecca:
Sorry, your going to have to upgrade to !0.5 Leopard to get Photobooth.
The rest of the story is that your G3 iMac is already running the highest OS it can. There is no way to make it run Leopard.
Do you have a camera for your iMac (they did not come with a built-in camera like your MacBook Pro)? There may be shareware or freeware apps that function similar to PhotoBooth that might work on your iMac. Finding a compatible camera may be an issue.

  • Can't use iMac running OS 9.0.4 for the internet

Hi! I appreciate any help you can give me. I've got an older iMac that I just want to use to access the internet for my kids. Here is all the info from the machine I can think might be useful:
Mac OS: 9.0.4, Mac OS ROM 5.5.1
    Processor: PowerPC G3
    Speed: 400MHz
    Build-in Memory: 64MB SDRAM
    Video Memory: 8MB
    Backside L2 cache: 512K
    Harddrive: ATA, 10.20GB
Like I said, I just want to use it for internet access, but as far as I can tell, there are no up-to-date OS 9 browsers, and NONE of them will run any web page my kids want to visit that have Java, Flash, etc., which is 99.999% of the web-sites. In other words, the computer is useless as-is for what I want it to do. As far as I can tell, I need to update to OS X to get a browser that anyone bothers to update, but to do that, I need to update the RAM on the machine. I can free-update to the base version of OS X from the apple web-site, right? How much will a 512MB memory card run me? What's the cheapest source? Since I am the furthest thing from a Mac expert you have ever met, I could easily be WAY off on any of my assumptions, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Two tangential questions:
    (1) Someone told me that back when I bought the machine (I bought it from my local Apple computer store) the memory should have been upgraded for free. Was I ripped off by the retailer?
    (2) I noticed in my research that my particular model - a slot loading "red" iMac with the specifications I outlined above, should have come with a DVD-Rom. However, my machine has a CD-ROM. Was I ripped off by the retailer?
Thanks again for any help & advice.

Welcome to the Apple Computer Discussions! With the release of the iPhone, the Discussions are a disaster area!
If your iMac has a slot-loading CD, it is readily expandable without too much fuss. If it is a tray-loader, it must be thoroughly dis-assembled to make the upgrades.
One of these may be its official spec:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/imac/iMacSlotLoading.html
    http://support.apple.com/specs/imac/iMacEarly2001.html
If so, there are two desktop-Mac style DIMM slots on its bottom under an easily removable door.
This vendor has a very good memory selector, good prices, and good service. I especially like that they tell you what they are shipping, and that what they deliver is true to their promise:
    http://www.datamemorysystems.com/G3iMacMemory.asp
Unfortunately, you cannot update to Mac OS X (any version) by free download -- you will have to buy a set of CDs, and you should not pay money for anything before 10.2 Jaguar at the absolute minimum. 10.3 Tiger is more stable, easier to install, faster and more pleasant to use, and has much more software available to run with it, including printer drivers and utilities. It is similar to 10.4, but is missing some scripting, desktop Widgets, Spotlight searching and indexing, and a few other features you may or may not crave.
You will need a "Full Retail" CD set, with a black or white background and a large stylized X on the face. Orange or Gray CDs will not be adequate -- they are for other specific Macs, not yours. You can trawl eBay and other secondary sources for the best bargains, or shop from this seller has what you want at pretty good prices, shipping included, and good service:

  • Can a 2007 iMac run OS 10.8 on 3 G RAM?

Have a 24" iMac, new in March 2007; added 2 G RAM Sept '10. Running OS 10.7.5 nicely.  Would like to upgrade to Mountain Lion.  Is 3 G RAM adequate?  Or, is there some intrinsic incompatability with the Intel DuoCore processor making it necessary to get a new iMac?   I love the 24" display!

  • Can an Intel IMac running Tiger Upgrade Directly to Snow Leopard?

This may be a dumb question, but I have an Intel Imac that I've never upgraded the OS on. My fiance has a new version, and we just installed Ilife '09 on hers, but my OS isn't new enough to install it on mine. Is Snow Leopard even an option for me?

Yes, if the computer meets the system requirements. Use the Mac Box Set.

  • Can I upgrade my IMac Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion?

I'm curioous if anyone can tell me if I can upgrade my IMac running Snow Leopard can be upgraded and have the capability to run the new, more feature rich Lion software?
I'm a recent convert having just migrated from PC platform to mac and honestly I need to spend some serious quality time on my learning curve. I was browsing through the Apple Store when I saw an upgrate opportunity to Lion. Once I read the list of improvements, I was sold -- I really want Lion even if it costs an addional $300. My fear, however, is that I'll purchase the Lion software only to find out that it's incompatible with my older Mac running Snow Leopard.

  • Can the 21.5 inch imac run the new final cut

I am going to be selling my g5 and using part of that money to purchase a 21.5 inchimac, my question is can the new imac run final cut and all its components with no problem. Does it really make a difference which version (graphics card) I get with the imac....and would I be better going with a macbook pro....and if I did get the macbook pro would it have to be the biggest one. thanks

Go to Apple's Website, look at the specs for the iMac. Then go to the Final Cut Studio page on their site, and look at the system requirements. If they meet, then yes. If not, then no.

  • I've just bought a 2nd hand iMac running 10.7.5 but I can't get my HP Laserjet 2200DN up and running. The Applications Printers doesn't have an HP driver

I've just bought a reconditioned iMac running OSX 10.7.5 but I can't get my HP Laserjet 2200DN printer up and running. I used a Firewire cable to transfer all my stuff over to the iMac from a Power PC G5. However, the printer driver disappeared. The Print & Scan pane in System Preferences is now empty and when I press the + to add a printer the Add Printer pane has nothing in it either. Apple says os 10.7.5 already has printer software installled, but not on my iMac. It says in its list of compatible printers that it supports HP Laserjet 2200 (is absence of the 'DN' suffx siginifcant?) Apple also says to use Software Update to check if software is needed. Manual downloading from Apple, who say they've taken over from HP for this software doesnt' work either - I get a two-part download, one file is an unopenable '.dmg' document and the other is a '.dmg.part' document, similarly unopenable. I'm completely stumped. The HP Laserjet 2200DN is an excellent printer that serves all my needs but I'm beginning to think it may be too old for the iMac, but I sincerely hope not. Anybody out there with workable advice about how to solve this issue? I'd love to hear from you.

Firstly, in Safari you will find a button on the right side of the toolbar: note the downward pointing arrow. If you click on that you will get the download progress bar.
I don't know what may be the problem with getting the driver working. I suggest you open Print & Scan preferences. CTRL- or RIGHT-click anywhere in the blank Printers list and click on the "Reset printing system" item in the context menu.
Assuming you have installed the printer drivers you downloaded by running the installer that appears after you mount the .dmg file, click on the Add [+] button to Add a printer. A window should open with your printer listed, hopefully (the printer must be turned on and already connected to the computer. Do a direct connection while getting this configuration set up.) Select the printer. Now, if the driver model name does not appear in the "Use:" dropdown menu, you will need to look for it in the list of available drivers. Once found, select it, then click on the Add button.
