Can a 3rd gen. Nano work with Win. 2000?

I know that the requirements are XP at lowest, but is there any way around this problem for 2000 users. I've got this expensive piece of tech sitting there gathering dust because i cant use it!
Many thanks

Sorry to do this, but the best solution to this problem is to stop using Windows 2000 -- it's so old, I'm sure that this is far from the only problem you are having with it, and it's only going to get worse from here on out. Why not solve it all in a single stroke?

  • Ipod nano possible with win 2000???

my wife just got an ipod nano \(3rr gen) for her bday, and we have a computer with win 2000. now the only itunes we can find for win 2000 is ver. 7.3. when i downloaded this it tells me that i need ver. 7.4 or better. anyone got any info or tips for me... PLEASE

NO. That is NOT what the website says. When you go to the 732 for Windows 2000 d/l page, it clearly states you can use Win2k. The website says "iTunes is the best way to enjoy your digital music and video with your PC, iPod and Apple TV. iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000 is designed to work with Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later. To use iTunes with Windows XP or Windows Vista, visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ to download the latest version. Use iTunes to import CDs or download songs and videos from the iTunes Store. Make playlists perfect for any occasion. Burn playlists to CDs and play them on your home stereo. Sync your media with iPod to enjoy it on the go, or play your collection on your TV with Apple TV."
Why have so many missed this??? Apple is clearly stating they support Win2k - including sync to ipod. I so got one. I d/l the iTunes 732 for Win2k and it works fine - to play music (using it right now). But once I connect my new nano, I get the error message "The iPod 'IPOD' cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.4 or later. Go to www.blah blah to d/l v7.4..." So.... what now??? I'm stumped. And never-mind the "win2k is old and nobody supports it..." stuff... Microsoft still offers SP4 for d/l.
Why would Apple put a utility in a backward compat. program that is not backward compatible?????
In addition (and this may be over my head), but why does the website show the file @ 47.7MB, put once on my hd it shows 37.9MB?? I've d/l the file twice to be sure but have the same result.
Please forgive me - I am not shooting the messenger, I'm terribly confused. I am clearly missing something. Would someone PLEASE set me straight??? I'm a big boy - I can take it.

  • I can't syn my 2nd gen nano work with Windows XP Media Centre Edition (SP2)

I recently got a new computer with Windows XP Media Centre Edition (SP2) and a 2nd gen Nano. I have the latest version of itunes but when I plug in the Nano it won't sync.
The Nano is nowhere to be seen in itunes and shows in My Computer with an exclamation mark over it. The only thing it will do is charge.
The Nano syncs on my sisters computer which has Windows XP (SP1) and other devices work on the USB ports on my computer.
Does anyone have a clue what is wrong or what I can do.
I've had the Nano for nearly four months now and it's driving me mad!!!

    Problem solved:
I used driver guide to download usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf then placed these files in my i386 folder. Then when I restarted my PC and connected my iPod I selected the i386 folder as the location to search for drivers. After that it recognised my iPod as a storage device and installed it.

  • TS1538 Does Ipod Nano (3rd gen) not work with Windows 8?

I have tried all of the uninstall and reinstalls, upgrades, reset of ipod nano, etc.... Cannot get computer or itunes to recognize ipod nano.  Does this device work with Windows 8?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: What to do if iPod can't be updated because the firmware file was corrupt or not found

  • Will the 7 th gen nano work with my soundgate honpdsdr if I use an adapter cable

I currently use a soundgate device to operate my iPod classic on my 2003 goldwing will a new 7 th gen nano with an adapter cable also work

I would check with soundgate to see if their device will work with the adapter.

  • IPod 3rd gen not working with universal dock

My old iPod 3rd gen (15GB, touch wheel, dock connector) worked great with the old dock, until the latter started scratching noises when outputting audio to my stereo. Still charges the iPod though.
So, I tried old iPod with the universal dock I got for my Touch and found the following problems:
    1. iPod is not being charged through new dock plugged to wall adapter
    2. touch wheel menu control is not working as long as iPod sits in universal dock plugged to the wall adapter - the sound of clicks is all I get, but no control of menu or any other function. In order to select playlist or use any other function through touch wheel or any of 4 buttons I need to unplug power from the dock (it is not charging anyway)
    3. remote is not working at all
    Otherwise playback is OK.
Any ideas what may be the culprit here? Apple states that Universal dock is compatible with 3rd generation of iPod and up.

    Hello Andrew,
What a coincidence as I too have had to find a new dock for my 3rd gen ipod. This week I purchased an Apple AV Connection kit - but found that it would not charge the ipod or respond to the remote. I also bought and tried a Belkin AC adapter with cable to power up the ipod but it too would not charge the ipod.
To see if these units were working I connected them to a friend's brand new ipod classic and both the Belkin and Apple AV Connection Kit worked fine - so there is something different about the 3rd gen ipod.
I'm not sure if this helps you - but at least you know it's not just your ipod that is not working with the new dock.

  • 3rd Gen Nano-Problems with iPod Clock Radio.

    Hey All,
I'm having problems w/new Nano and an Alarm Clock Radio for iPods.
    1) When the alarm time is reached, the iPod display lights up like its been triggered, by the alarm clock base, but music doesn't play. The unit then reverts to the beeper.
    2) The unit is made by SDI Technologies, the same people that make the iHome models of Alarm Clock radioes. They've told me that Apple needs to come out w/an update/fix.
    3) Does that sound right to all of you?
Has anyone heard about a time frame for a revision past 1.0.1?
    Thanks, Tom

    Thanks GunnerJr,
I had an appt. at my local Apple store yesterday. The guy was helpful but felt that it indeed was a firmware issue that was occurring. He couldn't say when the next update would be rolled out but said they're pretty frequent based on prior Apple products.
Apparently the redesign of the Nano is from the ground up and very thorough. The firmware in the clock radio is probably kind of dated back to some time in '06. Hopefully the software/QA people will get wind of this issue and arite it into a future update. Certainly not the biggest issue they'll deal with but hopefully sooner rather than later.

  • So does the 2nd gen nano work with the nike plus  or what ?

do i upgrade the firmware christman morning, or leave it alone ? i bought it in november. will it freeze, or this a solid duo ?

I bought today , Ipod nano which was version 1.1.1 at CompUSA.
I have failed to update to version 1.2 using Itunes 7. everything was not good. I requested it for refund at CompUSA. and I am happy.
I hate that I spent the time for this problem ( It might be a serious bug.)

Trouble is I cannot find a compatible Mic.... Does anyone have one or know of a Mic that will work ?

    becca

Hi, thanks for trying to help, appreciated
You'd think they'd be compatible but there not, unfortunately,.. according to the write up in the store anyway, I don't understand why there not , strange 'mistake' by Apple.
    The search continues....

  • Scosche earphones that work with 3rd gen Nano

The original earphones that came with my 3rd generation 8 GB Ipod Nano recently got destroyed and I'm looking to buy a replacement set. I'd like to upgrade to a set with better sound quality and in the in-ear style that blocks out ambient noise. I've heard really good things about the Scosche IDR655m but I notice that in their compatibility listing they only list the Nano 5th generation.
All I'm really looking for is great sound and the noise-blocking feature of the in-ear style. I really don't care if the remote or mic features work. I didn't have them on my previous set and I don't mind having to skip songs or increase/decrease volume by messing with the actual Ipod.
What I'm wondering is...would the Scosche IDR655m still work and give me good sound quality and ambient noise reduction on a 3rd gen Nano? Or is there another more basic Scosche product that you would recommend that would still give me all of the great sound on a Nano 3rd gen but without all of the "bells and whistles" of the remote and mic features?

Could be. Are the phones you want to use the kind with a mic and button (like you would use with a smart phone)? I bought some V-Moda headphones to use with a Nokia phone, and thought I could use the button to answer the phone, but every time I plugged them in, the phone would think I was trying to dial a number. The phones didn't give me any problem with my iPod Classic 160, but it was an older one. If that's what you use, maybe try some more standard phones to see.
Maybe not the problem, but all I could think of.

  • 3rd Gen Nano click wheel won't work in the car.  My OLD one worked, but this one doesn't.

I use a  PXDP iPod2Car iPod interface in my 02 Firebird.  My original, trusty 3rd gen. nano used to work perfectly.  It charged, and the steering wheel as well as main stereo controls operated it.  Something happened to it recently (my guess is the logic board went bad) and it does not come on at all, plugged in or not.  I actually have 2 more just like it that I was going to give away, but decided to keep.
Neither one of these will let me use the click wheel to scroll while plugged into the car - the old one did.
I can only change songs with the car's controls.
The only difference between these two and the old one, is that they have the HP logo on the back.  Are they later models, with perhaps different hardware?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Is there any hope for the old one?
I hate not being able to scroll at all!
    thanks in advance!

Contact PXDP.  They should know if their product is compatible with your iPod Nano.
Why won't my iPod play through my iPod speakers or car kit?

  • 3rd gen Nano needs iTunes 7.6 or later... but can't use 8 on 10.4.11 osx

My son received a 3rd gen nano as a gift. When we connected it to our Mac (where we already support a couple ipods), it was not recognized as a source, although it does show up on the desktop and the iPod immediately said "Connected.". But, a message popped up that stated that "The ipod cannot be used without installing iTunes 7.6 or greater. Go to www.itunes.com" So we went to download iTunes - the only option is version 8. I installed it on the Mac - or tried to. Turns out you need a newer version of QuickTime to do so. But the newer version of QuickTime requires a newer OS than we have. So we ended up leaving the Mac with iTunes 7.5 on it. My dilemma - how can I get iTunes 7.5 version on the new iPod? Or what do I need to do to the iPod to get it to be recognized in iTunes. Sorry to be a dunce - I tried opening the iTunes 7.5 icon on my desktop and selecting the iPod as the installation place but it wouldn't let me. I really don't want to spend $130 upgrading the OS when everything else works just great. Any ideas?

Select the Radio button for Tiger (10.4 is Tiger), download and install.

  • HT1386 I just reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8.  After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes.  My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem.  Help!

reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8.  After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes.  My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem.  I can eliminate any problems with the cable and connection.
I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.
    Help!

  • Pictures in iPhoto not syncing with 3rd gen Nano

Hi, I posted this in the iPod discussions area also but thought someone here may have the answer.
Hi all. When I go to sync pictures in iPhoto to my 4gig 3rd gen Nano, not all the picture are recognized. One album with 30 pics in it, only 3 are synced. this is happening in iTunes even before I hit the sync button. I have 1650 pictures in the total library but only 1495 are seen by iTunes and the Nano. Any thoughts ? thanks in advance.

    I confirm this problem.
Since I have a iPod Classic and for a few days a iPod nano 3rd gen, I can pre-sets station on the 80GB and not on the nano.
I suspect that the problem is not coming from the radio accessory but the nano.

  • Ipod Nano (3rd gen) not syncing with Microsoft Outlook 2007

I previously upgraded computers and now I can't sync my ipod with my outlook calendar. I upgraded to 2007. Any ideas? I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts or help. Thanks.

iTunes 11 won't even recognize my 1st and 3rd gen nanos. They've just rendered all the devices I love useless.
You can send feedback on the upgrade here:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html. I'm hoping enough legacy iPod users will speak up that they'll rethink and/or fix it.
