Can a 800 Mhz iMac support the latest software?
Hello all,
I'm looking to buy an iMac and I'd like to know how well it can support latest software. The processor is 800 Mhz with 1 Gb of RAM, and I plan to use it only for work, so I'll only be running Safari and iWork '08. I'll also be using Leopard on it. Can someone tell me if this will be sufficient processing speed for those apps?

The latest OS 10.4.10 (and Safari) will work just find on that iMac.
The iLife '08 system requirements indicates that only the new iMovie is not compatible with your iMac:
iMove requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster).
Apple has not announced the hardware requirements of Leopard so no one knows for sure.

Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.

Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications. -

I have not updated my iPhone 4 since the IOS 5.1 update. Can I now update it with the latest software even though I am missing other updates?
When going to your software updates on your device it will provide you with the latest available update for your device.
the iPhone 4 will update to iOS 7.0.4 provided all other updates the device is asking for has been completed.

I kept all my iPhones after I upgrading to the latest one each time my 2 year contract was up so I have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 & iPhone 4S. I actually still use all 3 phones for different purposes. My iphone 3gs is not activated, but I still use it for apps among other things when connected to wifi. My iphone 4 & 4s are both activated with 2 saparete phone numbers, but I have all 3 devices on the same iTunes account. I never noticed this to be a problem until just recently when I was thinking about selling one of my iphones since I'm now due to upgrade again to the iPhone 5. Well my problem is that when the latest iphone software update came available I noticed that all 3 iPhones had a notification letting me know that there was a new update available & I didn't want to update my iphone 4 & 4S until I had a recent back-up on my pc just incase anything went wrong like once before. Referring to the last time I updated my iphone 4s for some reason right in the middle of the update it lost connection. So I had to restore my entire phone from scratch & because I didn't check to make sure that had a recent back up right before I updated I ended up losing a lot of important information. So anyway since my iphone 3GS I knew had a recent back up & plus it doesn't have a lot of important information stored on it I chose to go ahead & update it first. Then later on when I went to update my other two iPhones I noticed the notification that was there before on all my phones to let me know the update was available was now gone & it would not give me the option to update either of my other two phones. I don't know if this is true or not, but I was later told that Apple will only let you download the free update software on only one device on each iTunes account & since I have all 3 devices on one itunes account I could only choose to update one. I didn't know this beforehand so I used the update on my 3GS which I barely use except to play with on wifi & now my other two iPhones which are the main ones I use are both activated now function very slow & constantly crash. Also if I was to choose to sale one of the iPhones without the latest software update on it does that mean that the new owner will not be able to get the latest update meaning the phone would be out of date without having that latest software installed? If anyone knows how to help me fix this or give some advice I would really appreciate!!
That's utter non-sense.
Just connect your 4 & 4S, iTunes running, & hit the "Check for Updates" button, or you can update directly on the phones(if running iOS 5.0 or higher): Settings>General>Software Update.
iOS 6.1.3 is the current iOS version for both phones. -
What web cams are compatiable with an imac on the latest software version?

Does anyone know of a cheaper web cam than the isight? There are many different makes but i cannot find any that are compatiable with latest version of operating system.

HT201210 Can't update iPhone 5 to the latest software 6.0.1
Trying to update new iPhone 5 to iOS 6.0.1. All works fine except during the required auto backup it starts to back up and they stops saying either that the phone had disconnected (which is hasn't) or that the backup has failed. In both situations it says to disconnect the iPhone and reconnect and try again. I have tried various things like shutting down the iPhone and restarting, closing iTunes and restarting and nothing works. When I click on More Information on the error message, it says to update the software to fix the issue; wow...totally worthless help since that is what I am trying to do. I have also tried to back up to the computer rather than the iCloud and that also did not make any difference.
Thanks for your help!He, Great info. I am using a Dell XPS and had the phone disconnect issue as well when updating. I did the reverse I added a hub and the system installed drivers for the hub. When I plugged in the phone it installed a different driver for the phone and everything took off and worked. So I guess try a different direction to the same solution.

what is the best way to "upgrade" a powerbook g4 with a powerpc chip? it seems that many things are not supported these days. can't download software, update my iphone, download video, etc. can i get the latest software? thanks for the help!

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

Can macintosh computers support the latest iTunes software?
My friend has an old mac computer I'm not sure what type or what software it has. I just know how it looks and well he wants to install the latest software of iTunes however when he tries to do so a message from iTunes says that he needs to update his computer in order to install itunes. So i told him how to check if his there are new updates for his computer and he said that when he check it said that there was no new software availible. So I'm wondering if iTunes is supported by older mac computers?
iTunes has been around for quite a while and runs on Macs dating back years, but it depends on how old that Mac is and what version of the operating system it can run. Without any further information, we cannot give you an answer. He may be able to upgrade the system to a newer version of Mac OS X and be able to run the newer iTunes that way, or such an upgrade may not be possible. We just don't know.
Have him go to the Apple menu on his system, select About This Mac, and tell us what it says there. Then we can either guide him to more detailed information or provide an answer.

Hi, Hope this is in the right place.
I'm trying to upload photos into facebook from my iMac. I've clicked on the upload to facebook icon in iphoto but just get an error message saying 'error occurred with iPhoto - try again later. I've also had problems lately when I click on a photo to open it I just get a grey screen with an exclamation mark. I've downloaded the latest software but nothing seems to work.
Can anyone help please?

Why can't I open iTunes or apps on ipad1? And why do apple not support the latest update for ipad1 when it's less than 2 years old. I am sick of huge corporations ripping off joe public!

Similarily, the iPad 2 did not get Siri and some other features in iOS 6.

I bought my macbook pro on August 2011 at an apple store, with the Intel i7. However mirrorring in not working with two of my Apple TVs. These Apple TVs are 2nd and 3rd generation loaded with the latest software. I can succesfully transmit from my itunes on my Macbook pro to both Apple TVs, but I can not see the airplay icon on the taskbar. Can someone help?

You have OS X Lion. OS X Mountain Lion is compatible with Mid 2007 (iMac7,1 or newer) iMacs, so to check that you have a compatible Mac, press , hold the Option (Alt) key and open System Information. Then, check Model Identifier. Also, the App Store will tell you if your iMac is supported when you try to purchase OS X Mountain Lion, so you can skip this step.
While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps. You will be running OS X 10.8.4
