Can a Apple Center change the hard disk for me?

I have a mid-2011 Mac Mini that has been upgraded to 8GB of RAM. The thing is, I now want to change the hard drive to a WD Scorpio Black to yield faster loading speeds, but I don't want to mangle around inside the Mac Mini on my own after watching the DIY video. Furthermore, I don't trust Hitachi-brand drives.
Can I buy said hard disk, and then have an Apple Center do the upgrade for me?

Noted. Thanks for the reply
The main reason I want to do this is because I want a faster drive really. Having upgraded to 8GB of RAM, I now notice that the main bottleneck on the Mac Mini is due to the drive being clocked at 5400rpm. The WD Black is a 7800rpm drive with more cache memory, which I expect should reduce the bottleneck quite considerably.

It certainly sounds like a bad HD to me. Back up your data and then take it in or call Apple.

  • What is the best way to re-install my apps data when changing the hard disk

My MacBook (120Gb disk) is finally full and I have ordered a 500Gb disk to replace it.
I am fine with changing over the disk but can anyone tell me the best way to reload all my apps and data from the present disk please?
I have a Time Machine backup on a Network disk, a copy of SuperDuper and also my original 10.5 OSX install disks.
    Thanks

Roger, since you have SuperDuper, I think the easiest thing to do would be to make a clone of your current hard drive to the new one when it arrives. You will need an external enclosure for the new drive; make sure it's formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled); Disk Utility will do this for you. Then connect that new drive via firewire or USB, and create the clone from your current drive using SuperDuper. Next, remove the internal drive from your Mac, insert the new drive and boot up. You can then place your older drive in the external enclosure to use for extra storage, though it won't be large enough to use as a cloned backup with SuperDuper.
    Good luck!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Several people have mentioned this and it seems to be a change with 10.6
If you're using Safari then right click on an image and choose 'Add Image to iPhoto Library'. Otherwise drag the image to the desktop first.

  • Change the hard disk

    Hi!
I´ve change my iPd´s HD and now my Mac doesn´t recognize it.
I suppose i have to install the firmware in the new HD, but i don´t know what i have to do.
    Anybody can help me??
    Thanks

Connect the iPod and run iTunes. If iTunes see the iPod, it should offer to use the Restore process to format the drive and install/initialize the iPod's software. If it does not offer to do so automatically, but the iPod appears under DEVICES in the iTunes sidebar, select the iPod in the sidebar and use the Restore button on the iTunes window.
If iTunes does not recognize the iPod, run Disk Utility with the iPod connected. Does it show up in the Disk Utility sidebar? If so, select the iPod's drive (not the volume indented under the drive) and go to the Erase tab. Erase the iPod using +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ as the format type. Once that process completes, quit Disk Utility and run iTunes. Skip thru any dialogs about syncing the iPod for the moment and use the Restore process to install and initialize the iPod's software. Now you can set it up and sync it as desired.

  • I imported 100 photos, when I was reading photos iphoto crushed, and when I restarted iphoto all photos imported had disappeared! Is there a way to find them. They were imported, they can not have disappeared from the hard disk?

I imported 100 photos from my camera (Canon) into iphoto. The importation went well, and when I was watching the photos, suddenly iphoto crashed. I restarted iphoto and realized that the photos had disapered. The events are availbble into iphoto but they are empty, the photos have dispeared. I can not believe they disapeared as they have been imported and read once, they must be hidden somewhere on the disk? Is there a way to find where they are?

Assuning you're running iPhoto 9 or later try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • How do I change the source disk for my backup?

    Hi
I recently purchased an external hard drive so I can move all my files that I currently have on my desktop to this new drive. How do I change Time Machine to make backups from this new external drive and not from the desktop?  I don't see any options to do this in the Time Machine app. I do see that this new drive is recognized/included in the backups but I don't need two backups of the same files, because as soon as I can confirm that the new drive has been backed up to Time Machine, I will delete all my files that are on the desktop to make room for other stuff. Make sense?
    thanks
    Nadia

Volumes on external drives (except Thunderbolt drives) are automatically added to the backup exclusion list. You can remove the exclusions in the Time Machine preference pane, and then the volumes will be backed up, provided they're in MacOS format. Volumes in other formats can't be backed up with Time Machine.

  • Mountain Lion has broke the hard disk

I have a Macbook Pro 13' (Mid 2010) with LION which has always worked very properly.
    -Wednesday 25th
On Wednesday 25th I've bought (16€) and instald Mac OS X Mountain Lion. The laptop seems too slow for me but I didn't mind at that moment, before going to sleep I shutted down the macbook pro.
    -Thursday 26th
The next day, when I tried to turn on, it stayed at the white screen with the apple and thinking. I tried it for several times, and at one of them after 10 minutes the os started but it worked incredibly slow (It was imposible to shut down it normaly). I called to apple care, they told me to enter in recovery mode and verify the disk. I do it and all was ok. I restarted and as before the mac didn't started or at least started and worked very slow.
    -Friday 27th
I tried to turn on the laptop with the recovery mode, but I had no response of the macbook pro,it stayed with the white screen. I called again to apple care and after some times I could enter to the recovery mode, but this time the were important errors at verifing the disk and it was impossible to fix it.
So I went to apple premium reseller near to my home. They found all the hardware ok with their test but they told me to open the laptop and change the hard disk (paying 200€) to solve the problem. I sayed thank you very much and I took a quote at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store for the afternoon. They found all the hardware ok again but they weren't able to fix the problem by this moment. So they told my to leave the computer and they would reinstall mountain lion from 0, without any cost.
After 3 hours I've recevied a call from the Apple Store telling my that the hard disk was broken and I've to pay for a new one (150€).
They are not taking into account that the laptop was ok and by installing the new OS and making all the test and restarts that they told me to do are the cause of hard disk's rupture.
What can I do? What do you recomend to me?
    Thank you very much.
P.S. : I've always loved my Macbook Pro and I haven't had any problem with it or with Apple, all have worked perfect until this moment and know I feel helpless.

  • Make it easier to change the hard drive

    Apple,
    Please. Please. Please.
Make it easier to change the hard disk in future iMac's. They break. They need to be upgraded.
My HD was dying. So I called the local Apple store. My iMac is under warranty. But they said it would take several days (with no specificity) to fix.
I couldn't be without a computer for hours, never mind an undefined number of days. So I replaced the HD myself. It took 45 minutes. Not counting a trip to the hardware store to buy the right torx set.
Is it really to much to ask to put the drive in a bay? SATA disk drives are ridiculously easy to replace if one has access to it. On a PC it takes 5 - 10 minutes. Even on a MacBook pro it takes less than 10 minutes.
MAKE THESE THINGS SERVICEABLE. There is no mystery in changing a disk drive. That is so 1980.

    Hi Alan
This is a user to user forum and while your wishes are falling on our open ears here, they are not getting to Apples. To hopefully do that, go to > http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html

  • Deleting the old Archive Log Files from the Hard Disk

    Hello All,
I want to delete the old archive files of Oracle. These files are very old and consuming very huge disk space.
Is there any way by which I can delete these files from the Hard Disk?
Can I directly delete them using the Operating System Command?
Will it cause any dilfference to the normal functioning of my Database?
If I need to delete these files, do I need to bring the database down?
    Please guide me.
I need to do this activity to make some space free on the Hard Disk.
    Thanks in advance.
    Himanshu

    Hi.
Keep archived logs from time of last backup and forward to currenct time on disk together with the backup itself. And keep older archived logs together with older warm/cold backupfiles on tape as long as there is enough capasity or following your recovery strategy. This way you might be able to roll forward a recovery without restoring these files from tape which often the faster.
Older archived logs can be deleted manually, with scheduled OS script or automatically with RMAN.
    Good luck

  • How can i extend the Apple TV storage to get an 1 TB? apple has any external hard disk or similar?

how can i extend the Apple TV storage to get an 1 TB? apple has any external hard disk or similar?

Only AppleTV1 has an internal PATA drive. The largest PATA drive available is 250gb.
Hacks are available to use the USB port on AppleTV1 to access more storage.
AppleTV2 does not have an internal drive.
Why do you need more storage in your AppleTV? iTunes streams video to AppleTV so no need to store it locally.
