Can a background image be "frozen" in iWeb '09?

In iWeb '09, is there a way to stop a custom background image from scrolling with the page contents -- I know when doing custom editing without a WYSIWYG editor like iWeb, the script would be:
*background-attachment: fixed;*
But, I don't see any way of altering the style sheets in iWeb itself....

You can use TextWrangler to do the post publication editing and save the Find and Replace values so it will be easier to redo it if you need to.

Can't drag images into "album" on iWeb gallery

I use iWeb 08
I am able to drag individual images to the page but I cannot seem to drag albums, multiple images to the "drag albums here" section. I drag them and there is a green "plus" sign but the page/ "drag albums here" space doesn't accept the images. Am I able to drag albums from Aperture or do the albums have to be from iPhoto?
Can't figure out what Im doing wrong...

I'm having the same issue!
I have loads of Albums in iPhoto I wish to add to some Albums templates in an iWeb website.
I'm trying to drag and album (or individual picture) to the Album frame, I get the green "+" icon and the number of pics, I release it over the Album frame and...nothing, except the icon slides back to the Media browser. It's been driving me mad!
Gonna keep an eye out on this!

Background Image on a Report Region

Greetings,
Is it possible to put a background image on a report region? Using the code shown below I can get an image on most other region types, but the code simply doesn't work on a report region.

Yes, you can define background images for report templates, but It's not appropriate to do what you're trying to do at the report template level. Templates are static and defined at design-time. Challenging Apex Page - Grid with 100+ items - Suggestions Needed. This needs to be dynamic and determined at run-time.

Reducing background image size

Hi all,
I'm working with Captivate 4 and have made a screencast of a particular process for training purposes.
The project has 80 slides - but each background image is 1800+kb. Overall the project comes out at 3 MB even with the highest possible compression in the publishing settings.
The project is to be hosted on the Web so I really don't need this kind of detail in the background images and I can't find anyway to reduce the image size apart from exporting each of the 80 backgrounds into Photoshop, reducing them in size and importing them back into Catptivate. For 80 slides this would take too long.
So, two questions:
How can the background image size be reduced within Captivate?
How can I change the settings so when capturing screenshots the image sizes are smaller in the first place?

I've bene recording at full screen (1024x768 or close enough) in order to get the largest recording space possible - and then resizing the project to 800x600 for the web production. The problem is that there is no optimise for web setting (or none that I can see). I just did another test and each background image is 3000kb - way over the top for something that will be viewed on the web.
Does this help you get a fuller picture? Any advice?

How can I change the coding of a background image?

I am close to successfully uploading my first website. My one remaining issue: one of my pages isn't showing properly. When I called my hosting service, they tell me that there is an error in the coding of the background image.
It is currently:

There is an extra underscore between "Us_files". It should be:

but I have no idea how to change the coding in iWeb. Any ideas?

I almost have it fixed. One small remaining problem:
My link to the "Contact Us" page isn't working from the top Nav bar. That's the one that is in the iWeb template I used. It's linking to:

which doesn't exist.
The nav bar at the bottom link to:
http://www.cashmerepersonalconcierge.com/Contact_Us.html
which works.
Once again I see the extra space/underscore is the problem, but I can't figure out how to get to it. I resaved my folders and re-uploaed the "Contact_Us.html" page as well as all my other html pages to troubleshoot.

Why can't I select background images in Pages 5?

So I've got a document with an image of a Gantt Chart, and it's been formatted to be in the background.
When I try to insert a new page before this image, it overlays the text of another page.
Trying to find 'select background images' is no where to be found, whereas in Pages 09, it was fine.
I'm all for simplicity, but removing something like this, and not being able to select this image at all?
Is there anything I've missed?

This is not the answer to the original question but it is an answer to a related problem.
Apparently, Apple removed the simple and useful "Send Object to Background" menu item. For the last half an hour I was straggling to put my signature image under my name in a letter. The image background is white. So, when I insert the image, it is on top of the text and blocking it.
Then, I searched and found this discussion, it helped but not solved the problem. I found a solution inspired by this discussion. Here, what I tried to send an image to the background.
Chose the image in question. When I selected "Arrange -> Section Masters -> Move Object to Page" as suggested in this thread, it moves the image to the background. BUT, the image appears on every page at the same position within the section. If the document is a single-section document (almost all my documents are single-section documents, as I use Pages for short simple documents like letters (in the near future, I'll say "I used to use Pages", as this kind of feature removal makes it unfeasible to use it anymore).
Thus, you have to define a new section which should contain only the page in question. Enough rumbling! Here is exactly what I did:
Let N be the page number on which you wish to put an object in the background.
Go to page N (your cursor must be somewhere on that page)
On the toolbar choose "Setup -> Section Tab -> Create a new section -> Starting with this page"
Go to page N+1
On the toolbar choose "Setup -> Section Tab -> Create a new section -> Starting with this page"
Now, you have a single-page-section on page N.
Put you object on page N
Select the object (image)
On the menu, choose "Arrange -> Section Masters -> Move Object to Page"
Also, I recommend to enable by "Arrange -> Section Masters -> make Master Objects Selectable"
You can put any number of objects on page N by repeating on steps 5 to 8.
The problem is, however, if you continue to edit your document and and sections gets longer, it will start a new page at the end of that section. Which is awful, because you'll have to remove the sections, and start from scratch, or manually move the text from one section to the other. So, do this after you are done with the document. Pity!
If anyone have a better solution it will be appreciated.

Now, I will continue to nag, if you allow me. When I open an old Pages document with images in the background, it opens just fine. It is not selectable as the original author stated. This indicate that Pages still support background objects independent of the sections, it just doesn't offer in interface to that facility. Why?
I had a fairly large number of letters and templates I created with Pages. Before it is too late, I'll abandon it.
I have a similar experience with iWeb. Apple promoted it, and then abandon it. Now all of my class pages (http://web.boun.edu.tr/akdogan) look too 2000s style, but I don't have energy to convert them something else at this point, but I'll have to.
So I will continue to use LaTeX for long documents (that has been the choice for a long time), but I'll switch back to almost equally annoying Word for short and medium documents.
Again, pity! I used to like Pages.

How can I put a background image in headers in PAGES

It seems I cannot put a background image in headers. I want a background gradient to go behind the text. I have to place it on the "page" "behind" the header on every sheet instead. Other than creating a graphic that is both (bitmapped) text and image, what can I do? Or is there some way to create an object that has edittable text over the image. Thanks, Peter

If you are referring to Pages app, it is easy:
Open your document
Go to Menu >> View >> Show Layout
You will see headers, body and footers laid out with edges
Click inside the header
Open your Media browser
Drag your graphics (or photo) into the header
Be sure to PRESS AND HOLD COMMAND (APPLE) KEY while you do this!!!
If you don't pres the key, the picture will be pasted outside the header!
I think the Command key press was what was screwing you up here...
This applies to Numbers and iWeb as well, BTW

IWeb 08: Static horizontal menu with background image

Hi
I want to make a static horizonal menu bar. I want to have a 800px x 40px black bar that has a background image from the same size. The reason of a background image is because I want a logo to be in that menu. I have searched in google for samples but I haven´t been able to find one that is simple and that I can incorporate the logo in the background. Can somebody tell me a link to a place to get this or tell me a code ? I don´t know html thou

Don't really understand exactly what you are asking here? Why do you need any code to create a menu bar? You can do this very easily in iWeb.
To create a menu bar:
1. Open your page in iWeb and then open the Inspector and go to Page and click on 'Hide from menu' and 'Don't include in menu and this will turn off the iWeb built in template navigation menu.
2. To create your own menu bar, simply use either a text box or a shape and make it 800px by 40px and then place it on your page where you want your nav menu to be and type in your links and then hyperlink them to your pages by opening the Inspector and opening Hyperlink - 2nd from the end and then highlighting the text and linking to relevant pages and then setting the colours via the format link.
Don't quite understand why you want a background image in a nav menu? It will be very hard to get anything of those sizings and people do not usually have a background image in a nav menu - normally a colour. A nav menu is not the place for background images or logos - it is too small and all this should be in your header section instead.
If you want more help, then please be precise about what you are asking.

Iweb increases filesize of background image?

So i'm giving iweb a 180kb jpeg to use for my background image of my site and iweb turns it into a 1MB PNG causing my site to load slowly. Why is it doing this and how can i stop it. I've already tried checking and unchecking the optimize images on import box.

I saw your question yesterday and thought, "This is why I don't use page or browser background images". What's the point in optimizing my photos, "cheating" on drop shadows and captions and optimizing my files to get faster download times when iWeb destroys all this with this nasty little habit?
I woke about 3 am this morning and half way through my first coffee I remembered that I had done a page over a year ago where I thought I had used a background image. I looked at the file size in the published folder and saw that it was about the same as your original and the format was JPEG.
After a bit of investigation I found that, to get around this problem, I had cropped the image to a suitable ratio to fit the page and then dropped it over a blank "Black" template and stretched it to fit.
My two remaining brain cells must have ben functioning better back then!

In linux, saving a background image (set as Desktop)feature doesnt download my image to wallpaper folder..or even to standard "Save download" feature. Can I tell firefox where (what folder) to save my "Set as Desktop" picture?

When I find a suitable picture to use as wallpaper" I often right click and use the menu item "Set as Desktop Background". The file ""example.jpg" is saved in directory\folder "/home/user" rather than for example "/home/user/my wallpaper" or in the directory
"/home/user/Downloads". The latter as being set under the "Downloads" section on the "General" tab in the "Preferences" dialog box.
Is there a configuration file where I can change the default location to save my "Set as Desktop Background" images. Or better still can the menu be customized to launch the application that allows me to set my desktop wallpapers?
I am using the "PCLinuxOS" Linux OS but I have encountered this issue in many if not all the Linux distributions I have sampled.

Don't use "Set as Desktop". Use ''' "Save Image As..." ''' instead, and file it with your other "wallpaper" images so the operating system has access to those images.
IIRC, Firefox saves a "desktop image" to the Profile folder, and it will only save one image, at that. Change the image and the previous one is gone.

It seems this problem is caused by the software to increase the readibility of upper letters (clock battery etc.) It be nice to leave us the control of choosing background letter color too if we are using brighter images or darker images.
I'm using iphone 4s and it appeared after I updated to new patch. 7.1.1.

How can I use a refrence background image ?

HI,
I need to register align horizontally and vertically) about 100 images to the first. I don't want to stack or merge them. An ideal way to accomplish this would be to be able to set the first image as a background reference image for all images in the group. There would be left/right buttons so I could advance through the stack, a slider to adjust the visibility of the foreground image, and up/down & right/left arrows so I could move the upper image a pixel at a time in any direction. In this case I don't need to rotate the image, but this would also be something a person might want to control. Then I would move through the group of images, stopping on each one to align the image to the first. One at a time, or after I am done, it would save all the aligned images to a new filename and folder, without changing the transparency of the image or in any way using the background reference image. Without rotating the images, every pixel in the new image would be the same as in the original, except moved. I would start by resizing the canvas of all the images so they have a border area. This way I can move the image around and not lose any of it.
Of course I could put the reference image in the background layer and the image to be adjusted above it on another layer. Then i can use the background as a reference by making the upper image somewhat transparent. Finially I could delete the background layer and save the image with just the adjusted layer. But this would be tedius with 100 images, even worse if there were 1000..
Is there a reference background image capability in Photoshop CC ? Is there a better or different way to do this ? Or can Bridge do it ?

Perhaps I need to explain my specific application. I have 120 images that are part of a time lapse sequence. The camera is photographing a meteor shower. I was able to capture a meteor which left a persistent trail that lasted about 5 minutes. Because the camera is on a tripod, the stars are constantly moving and in fact moved quite a bit during the 5 minutes the trail was visible. These images are of much higher resulution than the 1080 video I am producing. I have used premier to track the spot in the images and show the meteor and trail as a video close up that runs at about 15% speed. because the exposures were 30 seconds ;long, every 33 seconds, the sky has visibly moved from image to image. because I use only a few keyframes Premier tracks the spot smoothly. But since the pictures are each moved, not moving, the stars in the final video move back and forth with each image. they never go anywhere, but this movement is distracting and annoying. Theoretically I could eliminate this movement by having a different key for each frame. But the better way is to prepare the images so they are all aligned. Then there will be no movement at all.
You have seen this effect in documentaries. Here's a hypothetical situation. Someone has handheld video of an important event happening. because of the situation and the handheld camera, the picture moves around like crazy. To be able to view the event clearly as part of an investigation, each frame is aligned to the first so the subject doesn't move at all, while the image frame moves all around. I have seen this many times. Now I need to do it.
I have 120 pictures which all must be aligned so the stars in the picture do not move. i need to see a refrence image through the image to be adjusted, so I can move the image to be adjusted until its stars are perfectly aligned with stars in the refrence image. Of course this is like stacking, which is used to reduce noise and increase detail. but I don't want to stack the images, just adjust them horizontally and vertically, and then save them in their adjusted state.

The firefox theme(Lava V1-purple) I installed does not show permanently its background image because it quickly disappears when I click a new tab.. how can i fix this???

When i click a new tab button the background image appears but quickly disappears... I know that this shouldn't happen but it always happen no matter what i try... Can anyone help me??? Please??? I want my background, that is provided by the theme, to stay pemanently when i click the new tab button because the white background for a new tab is totally not my style..

Background image from one slide appearing in all slides after and I can't remove it

Hello,
I'm modifying a course created with Captivate 5, in Captivate 7 and for some reason the background image from slide 35 is appearing in all slides after that one and I can't remove it. The most interesting thing is that when you look at the slides in the film strip they look different (like the original) than the one on the work area which contains the background image I'm trying to remove (screenshot below).
Any ideas or comments?
