Can a battery be changed in a ipod 30gb  ?

can a battery be changed in a ipod classic 30gb  ? mine only last 3hrs max...

Yes. Either by a 3rd party repair comapny or you can even do it yourself.
3 hours max is actually pretty good for a 30 GB iPod in this day and age.

    Wow! Give us a chance!
I live in the UK (about five minutes drive from the Olympic cycle race route. Didn't you notice me waving to the cameras? ). Not far from you , but far enough away that I might be doing something else, even if the cycle race has finished. The same applies to everyone else too. I'm eight hours ahead of you, so if it's 9pm now, where you are, it's five in the morning where I am and most of us here will still be inspecting the inside of our eyelids!
    Now, about your problem.
If your iPod is 8GB, then it is not a 3rd generation Touch - no matter who they are and no matter who said it was! If it has model number A1288 etched into the casing on the back, then that identifies the 2nd gen Touch. (Yes, there is a 4th gen Touch in 8Gb capacity, but still no 8GB 3rd gen - ever). The third generation is model No. A1318.
Can i change my old ipod to the new one with priceless. I don't understand what that means, unless you mean "with the price difference". In which case, the answer is "no".
Even more confusing is; Now i can't do anything with this because too many apps require IOS >4.2.1 because -
a 2nd generation Touch (including the 8GB) can install iOS 4.2.1 But that's as high as it can go. So that's incorrect!
you can still use any App that doesn't require a higher iOS than you have. So still incorrect!
you can still use it as a music player, so guess what, wrong again!
... to store your photos - you know what I'm going to say now, don't you?
    ... and play those videos!
    So wrong, wrong and wrong!

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

  • I got a new e-mail address and I reset my iPod so it already has the new email address. I can't seem to change the address on my iPad or iPhone. Please help me change the address on all my devices!

I got a new email address and I reset the iPod so it already has the new address. I can't seem to change the address on my iPhone5 or iPad. So please help! How do I change the address for my apple ID and icloud on all my devices? I don't want to reset my iPad and phone just to set new email address I can't do updates without the password and I have forgotten my password for my old email address. Please Help! Getting frustarted!

If the old ID ("email address") is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Can the battery in my "dead" IPOD 2GB be replaced?

I have a 5 year old (?) 2GB IPOD I received as a gift.  It has been in a drawer for some time and now seems "dead". Connecting it to power will being up a menu, but the battery doe not retain enough charge to keep a display working once the power is disconnected.  Can I have the battery replaced, or should a device this old be "tossed"?

There is no 2GB iPod Classic, you may get better Response from the iPod Nano Community, but Apple charge US$49 for replacing the iPod Shuffle battery, if yours is an iPod shuffle.

In order to change my apple ID and Password do I need to hook my iPod up to a computer? I have wifi in my house so can I just do it on my iPod?

    ChrisJ4203,
Thank you for the help.  Every app on my phone was downloaded using my old I-tunes ID.  I just hope that they will re-download under my new ID because I still can't change it on my phone.  In order to change to the new ID it says I have to sign out from the old ID and change to the new one.  My problem is that I don't remember my password to be able to sign out from my old ID.  Then the phone says it can change my password through e-mail and I  agree but I never get an e-mail at my old address or the new one.

    Hey there ang3,
It sounds like you are needing to activate your Apple ID with FaceTime on the Mac. Try these steps from the following article named:
    FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4185
    Activating FaceTime for Mac
Use your Apple ID to register and use FaceTime. FaceTime registration validates your Apple ID and email address for use with FaceTime.
If you are unable to activate FaceTime, try the following:
Sign in to FaceTime for Mac using a valid Apple ID. After you validate the email address for use with FaceTime, other FaceTime users can connect to you using that email address. If you encounter issues registering or using an Apple ID account:
Ensure that you have an active Internet connection.
Verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.
Check that your email address is verified in FaceTime > Preferences. If FaceTime > Preferences shows your email status as "verifying," follow the instructions in the verification email that was sent to complete the process.
Toggle FaceTime off and on in FaceTime > Preferences.
If still unable to Sign In follow the instructions in FaceTime, Game Center, Messages on OS X: Troubleshooting Sign in
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Change "Format" on Ipod  & keeping charge

Years later a friend of mine finally returned my ipod to me. It's one of the first video ipods, 30GB. My friend overwrote everything from my name to the entire music library so I just reset it completely. I noticed that in the summary tab it says "format = Windows". I have a Mac. Can I reset this information? Do I need to restore the ipod again? Does it matter at all?
Also the ipod does not keep charge well. It switches from a 3/4 full battery indicator to empty and off in seconds. What's going on there?
    Thanks!

    Hello Christina D,
I noticed that in the summary tab it says "format = Windows". I have a Mac. Can I reset this information? Do I need to restore the ipod again? Does it matter at all?
You don't necessarily need to change the format to Mac because your Mac can read and write to a Windows formatted iPod just fine, but you certainly can do so anyways using these instructions. Wouldn't hurt anything.

Also the ipod does not keep charge well. It switches from a 3/4 full battery indicator to empty and off in seconds. What's going on there?
Considering it's a 30 GB iPod Video, it has been out for quite some time and used for several years, so it's likely the battery is reaching the end of its life and will need to be replaced at sometime in the very near future.

    1. Don't try to change the color. The reward is not worth the risk...and I'm not convinced that you can even do it.
    2. Before this problem started, did you notice that the battery was dying very quickly? I don't think that the battery is the problem, although it may be.
    3. Is the iPod still under warranty?
    4. have you tried Resetting or Restoring the iPod? Is the iPod recognized by the computer?

  • How Can I Sync Multiple Changes at the same time?

Is there a way to configure iTunes so that I can make changes in multiple sections, and only sync or apply them when I've made all of them?
For example: I want to changes setting in Music, Apps, and Books. Today, it seems like I have to go to change settings, hit apply, and wait for the iTunes to sync for each one. What I want to do it make changes in all of them, then hit apply/sync and wait for the iTunes to sync all my changes in one swoop.
The seems very intuitive and saves the user a lot of time. Can iTunes be configured to due this?

The OP's question asked - in iTunes for Windows, if it was possible to "configure iTunes" (not the iPod) and then "Sync those changes to the iPod in one step"
Is there a way to configure iTunes so that I can make changes in multiple sections, and only sync or apply them when I've made all of them?
    For the media, one can;
untick songs in the Library in order for them to be removed at the next Sync (and obviously the reverse to put them back on),
    the same procedure for books,
    create and modify Playlists,
remove or add photos to the chosen Photos folder (in Windows of course, not in iTunes) which then get removed or added at the next Sync,
and then connect the iPod. One can prevent an iPod from Syncing at initial connection time, so that further changes to things such as which Apps to Sync (which does need to iPod to be connected), choices of Selected Playlists only, etc. (ditto) can be made by choosing the appropriate pane. As yet, whenever I've done this, I have never had to Sync one change before switching to a different pane. The first change causes the Apply and Revert buttons to appear. I ignore them and continue to make further changes on the other panes. Then I select Apply. The Apply/Revert buttons are removed and replaced by a Sync button. So, although there is the Apply, then Sync to be done, it can hardly be described as a burden.
Are you saying Chris, that you have to apply one change at a time, followed by a sync before making any other change?

  • Can't access the music on my iPod, iTunes freezes up

Hello out there, I have a problem with my fifth generation 30 GB iPod video. It has worked like a dream until yesterday. I plugged my iPod into my computer (HP laptop running Windows Vista) and it showed up in iTunes as usual. I dragged three albums onto my iPod and it did the usual routine of updating. When it was done I clicked the eject symbol in the iTunes menu and waited for the battery to show on the iPod screen before disconnecting. I turned on the iPod to listen to these new tunes and now my iPod appears to be blank. Under artists, albums, songs, etc there are no longer any options.
Okay, I have the day off from work so I figure I'll just sync it back up and put all 30 gigs back on. I plug the iPod in, iTunes opens automatically, and then freezes. After unplugging the iPod itunes resumes working. I try this several more times, restart the computer, restart the iPod, etc and it keeps doing the same thing.
Frustrated (as this happened once before with a much older iPod several years ago) I headed over to these forums. From looking around I saw the five R's that are always suggested. After reseting, retrying, and restarting, the problem still persists: I can't access the music on my ipod, and itunes freezes.
I then updated to the newest version of itunes. This also did nothing to solve the problem. I want to attempt to restore my ipod, unfortunately this is not possible because I can't access the iPod options through itunes because it freezes as soon as the ipod is attached to the computer.
After reading several threads on these support forums I stumbled on this one: (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1480926&tstart=0) in which a user recommends downloading an alternative iPod manager. I followed the link in that thread and settled on a program called poddox, hoping I could just throw all my music back onto my iPod with it. So I again plugged in my ipod, waited for itunes to freeze, closed it as it was not responding, and opened podox. Podox reported that all of my music is still on the iPod (it says there is less than 200 megs of space available).
Unfortunately poddox won't work for me either. Upon attempting to use it to remove all the data on my ipod my computer crashed and restarted. This is strange because although itunes freezes when the ipod is plugged in, it still appears as a removable disk in windows.
I returned to the apple website and downloaded and older, seperate ipod updater software from 2006. I installed the software and it restarted my computer. When I ran the ipod updater I received a message informing me that this software was no longer supported and that if i wanted to update my ipod's software or restore it I should just do it through itunes v.7 or later. The program then quits, and I have no choice.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out here. What can I do? It seems like a real catch 22 in that I need to restore my ipod for itunes to recognize it but i can't restore it because itunes doesn't recognize it. From what I gather there is no way to restore it without using itunes, is this accurate? What can I do to either delete all the data on my pod and reload it, or make it appear again in my ipod's menu/interface? Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated, I will be monitoring the responses to this thread in case anyone should need more information from me. Thanks again.

right, figured it out. had to put it in disk mode, then reconnect, then it was recognized, then i restored and put everything back onto it. hope this helps anyone else who has a similar problem

Something has changed on my iPod. When I sync it now it scrambles music between playlists. So, I will be listening to my jazz playlist when suddenly holiday music from another playlist is there. When I go to iTunes, however, the playlist is as it should be--jazz in the jazz playlist, holiday music in the holiday music playlist. I have two iPods--one is syncing properly while the older one is not. Any thoughts?

You are currently managing your music manually. You can either sync or manage the music manually, not both. If you want to sync, all the music currently on your phone will be erased and replaced with whatever you decide to sync to it.
