Can a broken power button be fixed?

can it?

Apple doesn't fix phones, they replace them.  If under warranty there will be no charge to you.  If not under warranty, you will pay $149 for an iPhone 4, $199 for a 4S.  The iPhone 5 is still under warranty unless there's obvious user damage, then you would pay $229.

  • Broken power button on iMac G4

I am considering the purchase of this iMac. It has a broken power button. What are the implications of this? The present owner says that he just plugs it in and it starts up, and that besides he just leaves it on all the time anyway. How big of an issue is this? Can you advise me on how easy a power button might be to repair or if it is very necessary to repair it (assuming their is a workaround-keyboard startup?).
    Thanks in advance!

Given the said iMacG4 model and year are not discussed, one possibility
may be to buy a third-party for Apple Macintosh keyboard with power key.
    If nothing else is wrong with the computer, it may run awhile without trouble;
but access to the physical power key (on the logic board; may be hard to
buy the part by itself to replace it) is handy in troubleshooting or restarting
when something freezes up. Unplugging and re-plugging the iMacG4 to
make it go/make it stop is not recommended. Issues can result; I am
aware of a few problems in the G4 and earlier G3 iMacs and others, due
to the owner unplugging the machine instead of performing maintenance
or repairs in a timely and orderly fashion.
Since that machine is likely no longer covered under an AppleCare Plan,
you could either have someone else eventually replace the logic board
or other parts as you find them; or if you are technically minded and have
a good attention to detail with adequate work habits, fix it yourself. The
service manual, a download in PDF for techs, may still be available. It
was intended for trained personnel, and damages worse than the first
problem may result from improper procedures being done inside the iMac.
That said; good luck & happy computing!

  • MacBook frozen with broken power button

i have a 2010 MacBook Pro that has a broken power button, which seems to be a common problem with this model. To turn it on, I have to open the case and short out two pins on the motherboard. Lately, my MacBook has been freezing on me, which leads to a solid black screen. I can move the mouse around but there is nothing to click on. Since my power button is broken, I cannot just hold it down to force a shutdown like usual and I do not have time to let the laptop's battery burn itself out all day so I can start it back up.
Is there anything I can do to turn my Mac off while it's still running? I have the back case open and the fans are going. I'm afraid to poke around in there while it's running.
    Thanks.

  • Broken power button

    broken power button

I sent in my iphone5 for a repair/replacement unit on november 9, 2013, I was having an issue with the power button "doesn't work at all". It has no dents or any other issues aside from the POWER BUTTON. The good thing about apple is that the customer is always updated as to what exact stage of your iphone is at. After 20days, I received a text message: I went to apple to get the replacement iphone5. The  POWER BUTTON issue is resolved but i noticed some other issue on the replacement unit. New ISSUES: Dents on the right side near the screen and it also has screen discoloration on the screen itself. It got worse! There might have been some other issue on the replacement unit if I had used it for a couple of hours. I am so disappointed about the service. I asked the manager to have it replaced but I need to wait for another 2 week to 1 month TAT turn around time. Apple would lose a lot of its loyal customers if they would not do anything about it for improvement of their service when it comes to replacing a defective unit.

  • IPhone 2G restart loop/broken power button

My original iphone has a broken power button.  Yesterday, out of nowhere, after taking calls, listen/watching podcasts, texting, etc, I get the restart loop.  I waited until the battery died so maybe I could get it restored if I sync it to itunes.  Didn't work.  itunes didn't recognize it and it charged up to looping again.  Any suggestions?  Is this a brick for good?  I preordered the 4S last week; jealousy maybe?

Usally they will just give you a a brand new iphone 4 assunming you are still in a apple care plan? But i dont think they will give you a iphone 5 even at cost.

  • How to restart iPhone 5 with broken power button and frozen home button?

How to restart iPhone 5 with broken power button and frozen home button?

hmm..just realised that waiting here for answer is like watching paint drying.. Thanks Apple!
    So best option is..
    1) backup your phone
    2) log to iCloud
    3) erese your phone
    4) pug and restore your phone from backup
.. I'm clearly starting to dislike this company and seriously considering switching to someone else.

  • Help, Broken Power Button- Can't turn on laptop

    Hi,
I have an iBook G4 that does not turn on. The power button is unresponsive and doesn't do anything when pressed.
I'm hoping there's a key combination I can press to boot it up? (one that doesn't involve pressing the power button)
It's a school issued computer so I can't open it up, and since it's summer break I can't take it to our tech office.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

The Power Key is about it, for starting up an iBook.
There may be something else wrong with the computer
which an expert or genius may be able to perform a
basic troubleshooting effort to find what that may be.

Some processes to troubleshoot and try to get it to work
may involve several different things; including seeing if
the computer could work with the power adapter only,
with the battery removed. Or see if the power adapter
may be needed to start the computer. Narrowing down
the possible sources of problems, to include inspection
to see if the power button is broken, would be needed.
If the battery is fully charged, and this implies the cell
is good and not been used up, perhaps simply resetting
the Power Management Unit (PMU) may help.
Without seeing the computer, some things are more
trial and error than others. If an Apple Store is within
reasonable distance, a call ahead to see if they have
an available genius or other person at a specific time
who can look over your computer; this may be helpful.
I suspect the issue may not be the Power Key; but
if that is the case, it would require a repair. And if
that happened to be the situation, someone at the
school would have to authorize it (unless you were
to be generous and send it off to someone capable
such as wegenermedia.com for a quality repair.)
Actually, if it's the Power key, a technician would have
to take the computer apart down to the logic board...
& a tech could decide how or what to do about it. In
some cases, certain repairs may be costly.

  • Broken power button (the one on top right)+disabled ipod touch. From ebay, assuming I could fix it.

Broken power (top right, on ipod 32gb 3rd gen) button, Tiny Umbrella's not working. Tried RecBoot and STILL NOT WORKING Please help.

I have an iPhone 3G with a bad Sleep/Wake switch. I just keep it charges and use the Home button to turn it on/wake it. I have it timed to go to sleep after 5 minutes. I use this in place of the Sleep/Wake button.

Charge yours, open iTunes, hold the Home button down and plug the USB cord from computer into the iPod. If you're lucky and iTunes sees the iPod, restore it. Then try and use it like I use mine. Note: if it goes dead, I just recharge it--no need to restore again.

  • Note retreival from dead phone with broken power button

Hi all - my iphone 4s is dead for good, and my lock/power button on the top is broken.  when i try to retreive my notes from the icloud, i get a message saying, "to use icloud notes, create a new email address by turning on notes in your icloud settings using iOs or or OS X"  is it possible to retreive my notes although i can't access the actual iphone itself? any help is much appreciated!

If you had ever gone to Settings>iCloud and tried to turn notes syncing on you would have been prompted to turn on Mail to create an iCloud email account first.  If you never synced them with iCloud they cannot be recovered unless you backed up your phone to your computer using iTunes.  If you did back up to your computer using iTunes, restoring the backup to another iPhone would recover them; or, you could purchase and use 3rd party software to extract them from the backup (like iPhone Backup Extractor).

  • IPhone disabled, broken power button, no passcode, how to restore?

iPhone 5 says "iphone is disabled", the top power button is broken, no possible way of putting in the passcode. Need to restore/restart/unlock/whatever it.
    How do?

    Try this:
    Use Find My iPhone
If you enabled Find My iPhone, you can use it to erase your device.
Go to icloud.com/#find to see if you enabled Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
Select your device and click "Erase [device]" to erase your device and its passcode.
Use the Setup Assistant on your device to restore the most recent backup of your device.
