Can a call centre hack my number???

Every day between 6pm and 7pm I get calls from people in the local area saying they have received a call from me.  When i say calls, I mean every 2-3 minutes.
Some people who call say they hear what sounds like a call centre, but then the line goes dead.  Doing 1471, they get my number, realise its local and call me to find out what I want.
I have to say, the people calling me are very supportive and more pleasant to speak to than the frustrating waste of space that is the BT call centre!
BT have sent an engineer who says there is nothing wrong with the line. He has never heard of such a problem in over 30 years and suggested we try a new phone (which we have and unsurprisingly, that did not fix the fault).
Has anyone had this happen to them??
Can anyone suggest a possible solution??
BT seem totally unable to assist

so many people call me its untrue!  i can 1471 most of them but i dont need to really as i chat to most of them to see if i can get any further info to help BT solve the mystery.  they are all local people.
this fault is a real hassle :/
it appears to be me that is calling heaven only knows how many people
when the recipients of these calls do 1471, they get my number
sometimes they answer the phone, they get what sounds like overseas people on the end of the phone which then goes dead.  when they do 1471, they then think perhaps it is not a nuisance call because they see it is a local number calling - namely me!!
needless to say, i have not randomly decided to make 100s of local calls in the style of a call centre - which is why i wondered if it is possible for someone to get in on my line ... for one hour a day!  it is very bizarre.
Keith, i can see with-holding my number would help me to stop getting all the call backs, though would not stop all these people getting what is effectively nuisance calls.  It may well come to that though if I can't get it resolved. Thanks

you have to make sure that CFWD Bridge Mode under the Line tab of the SPA9000 where the SPA400 is registered is set to ALL...include VMSP Bridge and XFER Bridge Mode as well..power cycle then check if you are still getting one-way audio

    Yes.
Note that iPhone must be using iOS4.1 (or later) to FaceTime to Mac (or iPod touch).
On your Mac in your wi-fi area, click "Contacts", find and click on his iPhone's number. If he is connected to compatible wi-fi, he will get your invitation.

Online Numbers are for inbound calls from phones. Outbound calling to phones requires a call plan or Skype credit.

  • Can my iPhone and MacBook Pro be hacked by receiving a call from an weird number?

I received a phone call from a bizarre number. The guy asked me if I could confirm the number I saw on my screen. I did. then strange things started to happen to my MacBook Pro. I am wondering if through this call could somene have hacked my system. One of the things that happened to my MacBook Pro is that I went to make a make a presentation and the system apparently deleted all my cookies and now I have to enter my UserID and Password to every site I normally use.  Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    >>...when you say "...erasing/reinstalling..." what do you exactly refer to? Save my documents and then reinstall the whole OS?...
Saving, erasing the disk, then installing a completely new system & importing/migrating only your documents & files, rather than any software. Changing all passwords etc too.
Which may sound extreme, but if something cropped up on your computer screen, with a number included, then someone called your 'phone & requested that number from the screen, and after giving it to them, it seemed as if they could control your computer... (what were the other strange things ?).

  • Useless call centre - how can I get an intelligent...

My broadband is dropping every couple of days, often for 5 to 10 minutes.  Red lights on the modem and the BT Home Hub  splash screen on the computer saying it can't connect to the internet.
I phoned the help number and spoke to a call centre presumably in India judging by the accent and odd use of the english language.
He checked the connection at his end and said it was fine.  I repeated that it was OK now, but it had dropped an hour earlier, well as every couple of days.
"Now I have to explain something to you sir.  Your hub can accumulate blockages.  It is like static electricity they can make your light turn red and block your connection."   WTF?  He asked me to reset the hub to get rid of the static, despite the fact that I'd told him I pull the power on the hub every couple of days in the vain hope it'll speed up the reconnection (it doesn't).
Then he said again that his computer says there is no problem with the network so the fault must be in my house.  So I repeat that the problem took place an hour ago, so the connection is fine now.  I asked if the dropped connection an hour ago showed on his computer.  "No sir. I can see your connection is fine". I asked about dropped connections in recent days, but  he said there had been no dropepd connections.
He then started talking about wifi settings and that lots of devices on wifi can cause problems.  So I repeated again that the box has a red light and all my devices can see the homehub interface, but we cannot get connected to the internet.
Then he started on about making sure we have the right wifi channel.  So I said I wasn't going to talk about wifi anymore, the problem is with the network, and it happened an hour ago, and it happened on other days.  "No sir, your connection is fine, I will email you some details about how to improve wifi in your house."
I then said I didn't want to talk about this anymore and I would end the conversation. I put the phone down.
Then my mobile rung "Sir, I have to tell you about your wifi."  I reply "No thank you, I don't want to discuss this with you"
Then my moble rang again "Sir, there are some things I can tell you about fixing your wifi."  I reply "No thank you, I don't want to discuss this with you"
    arrrrggggghhhhhh !
Is there any way of speaking to a person who understands that a red light on the modem and a homehub that says it is dicsonnected from the broadband might actually be a problem with the broadband connection?
Also when I've had the same thing a few years ago I though the helpdesk operator could see how many dropped connections had taken place?  The chap tonight was insistent there was no record of dropped connections.
edit to add:  I'm on a Hub 5 type A plugged into the master socket.  No other sockets in the house.

  • Amazingly bad service from call centre today - can...

Just spent 31 minutes on phone to the call centre in India.  Must have explained a dozen times to different people that having been sent a brand new mark 3 router on Friday it doesn't work.  No power from adaptor I'd suggest.  BT's suggestions was to go to local market and buy a new adpator !!!  Incorrectly palmed off to a BT vision help desk then back to broadband desk who started list of unplug it, wait for 2 minutes, plug it in... blah blah blah.
Please please if there is a BT moderator out there then send me a replacement router / adaptor.  Your broadband is fine, works reliably and quick but your help desk is appaling if ever a customer needs help..
At least the old mark 1 router still works......

  • Can we get rid of "redirecting number in IE" message for CER 911 calls?

    Hi There,
Cisco CUCM version 8.03, CER 8.5, DMS-100 PRI, MGCP configured with "Redirecting number in IE-Outbound" option checked on gateway.
When we do 911 tests with CER involved, the voice gateway receiving the redirecting number in IE---911 message:
            Calling Party Number i = 0x0081, '4861234567'
                    Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown
            Called Party Number i = 0x80, '911'
                    Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown
            Original Called Number i = 0x00000281, '911'
                    Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown
            Redirecting Number i = 0x000082, '911'
                    Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown
The call finally is routed to wrong PSAP with strange CLID displayed on their end, such as 4869110085, and the carrier told us that we are sending 911 as the ANI from their logs.
But if without CER involved, the gateway has the message:
            Calling Party Number i = 0x0081, '4861234567'
                    Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown
            Called Party Number i = 0x80, '911'
                    Plan:Unknown, Type:Unknown
And the call can be correctly routed to the proper PSAP with the right CLID.
Although on MGCP gateway we can uncheck the option of "Redirecting number in IE-Outbound" to solve the above 911 calls issue with CER involved, unckeck this option may impact other applications.
    Therefore my question is:
Is there any fix or workaround to have CUCM not send redirecting number information for 911 calls only in MGCP environment?
    Thanks,
    JJ

Did you ever find a resolution to this?  I'm seeing a similar issue with a carrier masking the calling number with the Bill To Number based on the redirecting field plan being set to "UnKnown".

  • Getting no where with call centre can anyone pleas...

I nearly 68 years old and this is my first computer and internet package, i am on the BT upto 8mb package but only get around 1.5 mb speed, my son has looked into this for me and told me i have  "a stuck at 2000kbps ip profile" he has called the help centre that many times for me i have lost count, they have told me that my IP profile should rise after they changed the wirless chanel for me, that was two months ago and i still count myself lucky if i get 1.6 mb download speed. I was finaly told that the reason i only get this speed is because i live so far away from the bt equipment, can some one let me know if this is true please or is this a case of the indian call centre trying to fob off someone who is new and unused to this technology. I understand you will need the details below to see. The connection time is low as i had to reset the hub to get into the settings as i have lost my password but before that i have not crashed in months.

    welcome to the forum
you currently are on 21CN up to 20mb but only getting 2mb.  If you could not access the hub manager before I think your connection may have been resetting and you probaly just saw the blue lights and assumed connection was stable.  your noise margin in high at 17 as normal about again suggesting disconnections.
have you tried the quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best done with a corded phone  if cordless might get a dull hum which is normal.
are you connected to the master or test socket?
At present I would suggest that you leave your hub connected 24/7 for the next 3+days as I think you may well be in a banded profile (nothing to do with ip profile) and it should release your line in 3+days connected.
if after 3+ days connected there is no improvement then I would contact the mods for assistance  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

  • Hi All can anyone help me, I have a Iphone 4s and I'm currently recieving nuisance calls via a blocked number is there anyway I can stop my phone accepting blocked numbers? Cheers

Hi all I'm Currently recieving Nuisance Calls via a Blocked number is there anyway I can stop my Iphone accepting Blocked Numbers? Thanks

There is a way! I'm very happy to share this and hope it helps those who find themselves plagued, as I was.
I have been getting nuisance calls for months from some muppet, who hides his phone number before he calls at 3am. I need to keep my phone on, in case any of my immediate family have an emergency. I'm sure many have the same problem, just turning off the phone is not an option. I have been to two or three shops to ask the experts and none could offer me a solution. I was on the verge of tring to jailbreak my phone or even get rid of it to get an andriod one...That's how bad things had become.
Anyway, this is my solution, which I found by trawling through page after page on the internet, for ages and trying various other solutions first. I have an iPhone 4S and the operating system is 6.1.3 and I am in the UK, on Orange, or EE as we should now call it. I cannot promise it will help everyone, but it works for me.
Go to Settings, Do Not Disturb and switch this on. Underneath here, go to Notifications, then Do Not Disturb again. Then Scheduled and set the times you want the restrictions to start and end. For example, I use 7pm to 8am, so that I know I won't get nuisance calls during this period, but whatever times work for you. Underneath, it says Allow calls from and you can select your favourites. If you haven't saved any of your contacts as Favourites, do so, it's very easy. Just go to contacts, open one and underneath the number there is a button to Add to favourites. Repeat for all close friends and family you want to be able to reach you at any time. All your favourites should be allowed to call. I think you can have 50 numbers in the favourites. But any unknown caller should be simply sent to voicemail.
Apple have had some previous issues with the Do Not Disturb feature and to be honest this didnt work 100% of the time for me. If you find the same, don't give up. I suggest you do as I did at this point and use an app called Call Bliss, which seems to have cracked it. (I have NO connection to them and it's no skin off my nose if you use this app or not). There may be other apps that do the same, or even better for all I know. You have a free one day trial then it's £3 if you want to continue to use it. For me, £3 to solve the problem was money very well spent. If you need this app, download it, then do as suggested above to the point where it says Allow calls from and this time you select Bliss Exceptions. Follow the instructions in the app.
There are two modes, I use suppress mode, which allows all calls to get through except those from unknown callers and those specified by you. I believe the other mode blocks all calls, except those you specify. Please note, the app only works when the iPhone is locked. Your lock might come on after the phone is not used for 5 minutes or so, or you can lock the phone by single clicking the on/off button (not holding it down).
I hope this helps anyone as much as it has done me.

  • HT201229 How can I access a list of incoming calls from a blocked number

Calls from blocked #'s won't go through, so they won't be listed on your device.
