Can a contract free iphone 6 be used in China with a GSM sim card?

I just bought a contact free iphone 6, and I want to give this as a gift to my friend in China. Can he use this iphone 6 with a GSM sim card? Thanks!

You'll have to check with the Chinese telephone company if they have nano sims and are configures with the same frequency of your iPhone.

No. Vodaphone Egypt and Vodaphone Qatar are two different carriers. They have the same parent company, but you can not use a phone locked to Vodafone Egypt with a Vodafone Qatar SIM.

  • If i buy a sim-free iphone 5s in America, can i use it in China with a Chinese sim card?

i've bought a sim-free iphone 5s  in apple store in America but i am worried that i cannot use it with a Chinese sim card. Can someone help me?
    Thank you very much!

The iPhone is sold as "unlocked and contract-free" when purchasing that option from the Apple Store, though Apple's verbiage is using "unlocked" and "SIM-free" rather interchangeably:
The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use the unlocked iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T or T-Mobile in the United States. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA-based carriers, including Sprint and Verizon Wireless.
If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. If you choose T-Mobile, your iPhone comes with a T-Mobile SIM card already installed. You will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone.
Otherwise, the unlocked iPhone does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using your iPhone, simply insert the SIM card into the slot and turn on iPhone by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.
Purchasing an unlocked iPhone means you will not qualify for the lower iPhone price associated with a contract. The unlocked iPhone 5c model is A1532 (GSM). The unlocked iPhone 5s model is A1533 (GSM).
To help decide whether the locked or unlocked option is right for you, compare wireless service plans. Or call our iPhone Specialists at 1-800-MY-APPLE.
Be aware that if you purchase an iPhone in the US, that will be the only place you will get support from Apple should you need it. You will not get any support for a US-sold iPhone in China.
    Regards.

  • Can I use a CDMA (VZ) iPhone 6 with a GSM SIM card outside the US?

I'm planning on purchasing my first iPhone--a 6. I'm debating between Verizon (VZ) and AT&T and understand that VZ uses CDMA and AT&T uses GSM. I'm hoping to have a phone which I could use a local wireless carrier's GSM SIM card outside the US if I'm traveling. I've done this with unlocked GSM phones in the past and would like that option in the future--but I'm wondering if I were to get a VZ (CDMA) phone if that'd be possible? Likewise, if one's outside the US do you have to use an unlocked phone for a local wireless carriers's GSM SIM to work?
Thanks in advance for your response!

    That is correct.
AT&T will unlock a device under the following circumstances:
The person requesting the unlock code must be one of the following:
    A current AT&T customer
A former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account
The AT&T Mobile Device was designed for use on the AT&T wireless network.
The AT&T Mobile Device has been paid for in full.
The AT&T Mobile Device has not been reported lost or stolen.
You're allowed the following number of device unlocks:
Current customers are allowed up to five device unlocks per account, per year.
Former customers are allowed a total of five device unlocks per former account.

  • Will an Att Iphone 5 work in the UK with a UK sim card

Will an Att Iphone 5 with a UK sim card work in Scotland.
I don't want to unlock or jailbreak my phone either.
    Thanks

How do you "officially unlock" a phone.
    Does that change the warranty.
Does unlocking change EVERYTHING like jailbreaking it does.
Do I have to reload everything on my phone.

  • Can an iphone 4s bought in australia work with a malaysian sim card?

I have a company iPhone 4s and are relocating from Austrlaia to Malaysia. Can i simply buy a new sim card in Malaysia or do i need a new phone?

That depends on if the phone you got was locked to a carrier or if it was unlocked. If it's unlocked, it will work on any supported carrier's network when using their SIM.

  • Can I use ipad mini with cellular without SIM card

I have purchased a ipad mini with wifi and cellular, thinking I could use my UK SIM card when required but leave it out when not in the UK. (Live in Qatar)
I can't activate imessage or facetime, and also I didn't realise it needs a nano sim not my micro sim. I get a cannot connect to network message.
Do I need to purchase a new sim for the ipad to work properly, I did assume it would work the same as an wifi only ipad if sim wasn't present.
    Thanks

Thanks James. I was hoping that was the case.
I've already updated the software, from a quick search that seems to be the network issue for imessage/FaceTime. Is there a fix for this? Ive no back up to go back to.

  • I have an iPhone 4, which is on 3(UK) network, I want to use this phone with a SFR sim card is possible just to switch sim cards. 3 UK to SFR

I have ordered an iPhone 5 (YIPEE) to use on 3 (UK), I would like to use my old iPhone 4 on SFR (France), currently using it on 3 (UK). Would I be able too just swap my sim card I have at the moment, on 3 (UK) for a SFR (France) sim card or is there something I need to do to make that happen? What would that be?
I would really appreciate any advice.

You need to unlock your iPhone with 3 to use it with other microSIMs. Check their website to see what the process is.

my factory unlocked iphone wont activate with my gsm sim card
    can anyone help ?

Check Settings>FaceTime>On and Settings>General>Restrictions>FaceTime>ON. On the 4 & 4S FaceTime is accessed through contacts.  Go into your Contacts, access the contact you want to FaceTime with and you will see a tab at the bottom of their contact card.  You can also access FaceTime by going into your Phone app, select dialling keypad, dial number, press call and an option for FaceTime on the keypad will appear.   It should be noted that FaceTime has been removed from iPhones sold in some Middle Eastern countries at the express wish of the respective Governments.  This article may also be helpful http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4319.

  • Will an unlocked iPhone 4S work with both CDMA and GSM SIM cards?

I was using the iPhone 4S with a GSM sim card all these years here in India and would like to switch to a CDMA carrier.
Does the phone work with both SIM cards? Or is there a separate model which works with CDMA?
    Appreciate all replies.
