Not as a standalone solution if you want stuff like live view and all the camera controls on the iPad. If it's just for transferring photos to the iPad for immediate viewing after shooting the Shuttersnitch app comes to mind. Shuttersnitch however requires a WiFi connection that most Nikons don't happen to have. Nikon's wireless dongles for the consumer range of cameras are also somewhat awkward to use whereas the wireless/Ethernet units for the pro range happen to be very expensive. WiFi SD-cards are also a possibility for retrofitting WiFi but they tend to be unreliable, slow and their setup is quite often finicky.
Another solution would be tethering the camera to a laptop (Win or Mac) through USB and connecting the iPad as a secondary wireless tethering device to the computer. There are programs for Mac and Windows incorporating this feature. I once set this up for a friend who does a lot of studio work but it ended up that he just uses the USB-connected laptop almost exclusively. And unless one would be out for a timelapse shooting already carrying tons of gear not a solution for shooting in the field.
Last not least but also not exactly inexpensive is the Camranger remote control for Nikon and Canon DSLRs. It connects to the camera through USB and has its own server and WiFi built in which allows to connect to iOS, Android, Mac and Windows (apps for all available by Camranger themselves). Probably the most flexible and comfortable solution especially when considering that it can be used for multiple cameras and will mot likely also work with future cameras. So I have my Nikon d4 set up with Nikon Picture control so that it will download to my laptop with an Ethernet cable but it downloads to a file on the hard drive - I can choose what file, etc but what I want to do is take advantage of Lightrooms tethered capture so I can set white balance, set up sessions, etc. LR tethered capture works fine with a USB but a USB is too short and for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it work with an ethernet cable - supposedly it can be done but not by me! Any ideas out there?

I did find that Nikon released the developer software for the D4S back in february so just could'nt uderstand the delay especially as adobe never seems to be late taking my money each month.

Tethered shooting with a Nikon D200..

I have a D200 and want to shoot macro images in the field and check images especially depth of field on my MacBook (Intel). Is it correct that with Aperture 2.0 no other Nikon software is required for tethered shooting? Thanks for any help and/or web info on this subject as I have never tried this before. Peter

Yes the D200 works with tethered. In the setup menu you need to change the USB setting from mass storage to PTP mode. (pg 121 in the manual). Turn the camera off, plug in the USB cable and then turn the camera on. To be clear, I haven't tried it in Mass Storage mode, so you might not need to do this.
Tethered only works if there is a CF card in it as well. I didn't like this at first, but USB is slow, with out using the CF card you would be lucky to get in one shot every 5 seconds.
I have a D200 and tried the tethered feature first thing on the day the trial was released. I LOVE it. Really, I was enjoying it so much I was laughing. Granted, this was done on my iMac G5, I have not tried it yet on my MacBook Pro yet.

How to keep a copy of the image file on memory card when using tethered shooting with a Nikon D800?

I love tethered Shooting but as default (at least for Nikon) Lightroom does only save the file on the computer, not on the memory card.
Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.
So how can I achieve this using Lightroom tethering?

FWIW I'm very keen on improving tethering and lobbied Adobe endlessly until they added the overlay for shooting into layouts because it was a major reason why some of my clients were unable to switch to Lightroom from PhaseOne. But we have to be realistic and remember that tethering just isn't a key market for Adobe as it is for PhaseOne, so progress is painfully slow. For example, where is live view or setting exposure which are in PhaseOne? I'd be amazed if we get those features for a few versions, and that's why I point serious tethered shooters to other solutions. And realistically, assuming your understanding of the SDK is correct you shouldn't expect a change until the next full version of Lightroom. Good if it happens, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The above link will indicate the extent of tether support in LR 5.3. You will note that basic you will see that only a limited number of Canon and Nikon camera models and three Leica models are presently supported. This is a user to user forum so the people who will likely reply to your question are users like yourself. Those who know will most likely be restricted from making a comment due a non disclosure agreement. Adobe does not usually comment on what new features or camera models will be supported.
I am a user of Lightroom since the initial version and I have two Olympus and one Panasonic camera and doubt that it will happen in the near future.

The camera connection does work with Canon EOS Utility.
LR sees the camera but fails to establish and maintain connection. See small video clip to view the camera and computer behaviour while attempting to connect.

I also have the Canon 5D3 and have no issues connecting with various software (EOS Utility, LR, Helicon Remote) on that computer. I have a MacBookPro mid-2009 running OS X 10.8.5. Lightroom, Camera Raw and EOS Utility are up to date, same goes for the 7D2 firmware.

It usually takes many months and perhaps more than one version of LR before tethering is supported after raws are supported. The first hurdle is for the camera manufacturer to release a new SDK with the camera supported, so Adobe can’t have tethering ready when raw support is because a camera isn’t added until after it is announced. Canon has added the 7D.2 to their SDK about two weeks after the camera was available, so the ball is in Adobe’s court:

If you are syncing music to the iPhone automatically, you won't be able to play tracks on the iPhone from iTunes, the music will be grayed out.
You can play them in iTunes if you Manually Manage the music on your iPhone though.
You could also Transfer the purchases from your iPhone to a computer.

Nikon D750 not supported for tethered shooting??

I just got a brand new Nikon D750 and realized that obviously this model so far is not supported for tethered shooting under LR 5.7
Does anyone have similar experience or new information ??

Disable Users: Nobody can log in to the mailbox, but the data is safe and it can receive email. Once it is enabled, it is back to normal.
Delete Users: when the user is deleted all the services are removed and all data is erased. The user is deleted from our Active Directory. If you create a user with the same Name and Emial address again, no data or services are recovered.
If you disable a user, the Active Directory object remains untouched together with the mailbox data and properties, but you will not be able to access any mailbox data.
If you delete a user, the Active Directory object is removed together with all data and properties of the user.

I am working on a hardware/software plan to streamline my digital photography workflow. I have been doing some research
on tethered shooting with Nikon and came across this blog post by Scott Kelby. My question is.....do I need to spend the 160.00 on
Nikon's 'Camera Control Pro 2' software on top of the 260.00 for Adobe's 'Lightroom 2' software in order to shoot tethered into Lightroom 2?
Can a person just shoot directly into Lightroom 2?
Are any of you out there shooting tethered into Lightroom 2? Can you expand on the details of your workflow?

At this stage LR hasn't the ability to tether to a camera without additional software. this is a feature that has been asked for many times. I do not know of any other software that comes close to the functionality of Nikon CC Pro 2 for those on a PC. I use CC Pro 2 with LR 2.4 and a D2Xs and although it may take 5-6 seconds for an image to appear using a watched folder it is a wonderful way to shoot for specific situations such as low light panos or with clients wanting to view your work on-site.
CC Pro 2 allows you to work unobtrusively once you are set up and is particularly good for candids or photography in a public space as people are not put off by the photographer behind the camera. I would suggest a setup like Kelby's or McNally's which uses a Manfrottos accessory arm to place your laptop next to your camera as any other method is a pain if you are moving equipment around. In low light I would close the viewfinder to ensure stray light doesn't affect the exposure.

Tethered Shooting with Nikon does not save on CF/SD Cards

Has Lightroom 5 now a solution for the tethered shooting with Nikon cameras where no save on the CF/SD cards takes place?
If not, will this covered in the future?

An external HDD does not help for the most common image loss during tethered shooting: Transfer problems.
When any transmission problem occurs while shooting and the images are not stored on the memory card, they will be gone. I can't tell you how many images I lost because I had some cable problem while being tethered.
Tethering without a copy on memory card is not a good idea, really. So since the feature is available (otherwise it wouldn't work in digiCamControl, they don't install a new firmware or use super secret camera drivers or anything) I can't understand why Adobe does not support it.

Tethered Shooting with 5d Mark II and Aperture 2.1.4 not working

Is the 5d mark II not supported by aperture 2? I've been successful shooting tethered with the EOS utility (version 1.6), but whenever I use aperture 2, my camera freezes up and the buttons won't work. I have to power down and disconnect the USB. On the tethered HUD, it says that the 5d mark II is connected, but i'm unable to take a picture. Anyone else have this problem, or know how to solve it?

Unfortunately, the 5D Mark II isn't yet have support for tethered shooting as does the 5D Mark I. There is an Automator action you can set up with a "Hot Folder" using the EOS capture utility that is a decent work around. Been using this technique for several months now. I'm sure an update or next version will include tethered support.
