  • Can I install Tiger on 400 MHz G3?

My daughter has a 400 MHz G3 (10 GB drive, 1 GB RAM, Firewire, slot-loading DVD) currently running OS X 10.3. We are finding that she does not have access to all web content, because of outdated Flash player. In order to upgrade Flash player, she needs OS X 10.4.
Checking Apple's specs, it seems like 10.4 should be okay on her machine, but I've seen some comments implying that it may not be. Does anyone have a certain answer on this?

For tiger, you need 256meg of memory.
There is no need to partition. You can save hard drive space by doing a custom install. Leave out the print drivers you do not need and the languages you do not need. Doing so you will need about three gigabytes of space.

I tend to think dashboard is neat, but not neccesary for my everyday workflow.
it is possible to enable and disable it as needed,
by entering the following commands into the terminal:
    #To turn Dashboard off:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
    #To turn Dashboard on:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO
#*You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect:

  • How can I copy current board  content into new board?

    Hi there.
how can I copy current board  content  into new board?

    Hi-
Can I drag it to the external drive or perhaps just the songs, then copy/drag them to my new computer ?
    Pretty much, Yes.
If you wish to keep the formatting, notes, ratings, etc. that are with the library, you should allow the iTunes software to "discover" the library.
If the iTunes Library from one machine is placed on an external drive, the iTunes software on the other machine can be directed to the library of the external drive when connected.
Allowing "Copy to Home folder/music" will provide for copying of the library to the new machine.
Alternatively, if the library is loaded onto an iPod, the iPod can be used to transfer the music.

  • Is it true that not one of MSI's P67 Chipset boards supports Quad SLI

I received a message from MSI when I requested a list of LGA 1155 boards that support Quad SLI.  MSI stated that none of their 1155 socket boards support Quad SLI. I specifically bought my board because it was listed as a certified Quad SLI board in an article by Nvidia on "How to build a Quad SLI Rig" using 2 GTX 590s. Just a little disturbing if this is the case since I have been talking for pulling my hair out for 3 weeks and posting questions in this forum so that I could get a Quad SLI option in the Nvidia control panel and asking everyone for help. Just want to clarify that what this MSI employee is telling me is correct and that I would have to get a different CPU if I want to use MSI for Quad SLI or go to another MB Manufacturer (which I don't want to do).
MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 none for 1155 socket.
End User 02/23/2012 I am not asking you for technical support for my current board. I was asking for a recommendation based on my CPU which board is the best MSI makes that will support Quad SLI. MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 this is not the post sale technical support form, please use the proper support form from the following link: http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/ts_form.aspx ***this model of the mb only supports SLI, not QUAD SLI: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=Basic

I believe there is a misunderstanding.  MSI seems to have their own terminology in which "2 GTX 590s" are not labeled "Quad-SLI" but actually "nVidia (Dual GPU) ( 2 way SLI)" as opposed to "nVidia (Single GPU) ( 2 way SLI)".
This is the video card test list for your P67 board and if you scroll down you will see what I mean.  A 2x590GTX setup wasn't actually tested, but you can find 2x295GTX and 2x9800GX2 setups in the list:
    http://eu.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2313.pdf
In MSI's terms, "Quad SLI" is reserved for setups with four actual cards and from this perspective Quad SLI is not supported on your mainboard model (there are only 2 PCI-E x 16 slots (connected to the CPU's PCI-E interface that will run as x8/x8 as the CPU only provides 16 PCI-E 2.0 lanes).
I hope that clears things up for you.

  • Pavilion223 All in One-Can't dowload my boarding pass.

Can't download my boarding pass. Note says Adobe Flash not installed "click here to install" (which I did).  Further note said Adobe Flash already installed in Widows 8. Now what???  This is a sudden problem - only 2 wks ago I  got a boarding pass with no problem.

Dunidar, Thanks for your response and, hopefully, your help. However, if you are responding on behalf of HP Customer Service, you should know I was told by HPCS that my computer is out of warranty (by a couple of months) and I would have to pay for tech support . I can't afford the tech charges for the next year nor the cancellation fee if I discontinue service before the year is up.  That's my sad tale.
If you can help, the product no is 23b034; running on Windows 8 -64 bits. Thank you.

  • Which MSI boards support Speedfan?

I got a Delta LSR last week and it doesn't support Speedfan - so I'm going to change it for one that does. I'd prefer to stick with MSI. Please anyone who's using Speedfan, can you tell what board you're using?
    Thanks.

That's incorrect.  Most, if not all of AMD's desktop CPU's support ECC memory in the memory controller.  This is precisely what makes them appealing to use in a unprofessional server -- they're cheap, fast, and offer server-level features.  In order to make use of that ECC memory support, however, the board maker has to wire a few extra paths to the DIMM slots for control/parity bits related to the ECC signaling.  I'm asking if MSI does it.  If not, that's unfortunate, because ASUS does.

  • Does the X58 boards support intel 2 core quad 775?

i have a question the X58 boards support 2 core quad processors? because it says 45 nm support.

For future reference, look at the socket of cpu.
Core 2's are socket 775 or LGA 775, X58 is for Nehalem or better Bloomfield cpu's, new architecture and has socket 1366 or LGA 1366.
The numbers stand for the number of pins found on the bottom of the cpu, the core 2's had 775 contactpoints, the new Nehalem 1366.
The 45 nm you refer to is the productionproces on which it is made on, e.g. 45 nm.
The smaller this number becomes, the next step is 32 nm, the more processors can be cut from a wafer.

  • Can the PCU from a Power Mac G4 w/400 mhz be upgraded to something higher?

    Hi Everyone,
I got a few questions that I've been trying to answer since I discovered that the CPU's in the power macs can be upgraded. I got a power mac g4 that I picked up at my local dump for $20. I use to be a standard dell man but once I got my hands on the power mac, I've been hooked. From what I've been reading in the forums, it may be possible to upgrade the cpu on my power mac. I have one slight problem though, I can't tell what model I have. From what I can gather, I may have a sawtooth model (AGP?) but, I'm not too sure. So my questions are as followIs:
    1. Is their some type of marker on the Mac that can tell what model it is?
    2. Once the model has been confirmed, can it's particular cpu be upgraded and if so, how high?
    3. Besides adding more memory (she has 1.5 GB) is their anything else I can do to make her faster?
Well, any help that can be provided would be great!

    P.S. here's the hardware overview:
    Machine Model: Power Mac G4
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 400 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1
    Serial Number: XB0470QQJ3B
    Sales Order Number: M7891LL/A

    Hi-
    1. Is their some type of marker on the Mac that can tell what model it is?
Based on the model number, here's your Mac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg4/stats/powermac_g4_4002.html
It is a Gigabit Ethernet model.
The linked page lists many of the options that you have.
    Further info is here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3082?viewlocale=en_US
    2. Once the model has been confirmed, can it's particular cpu be upgraded and if so, how high?
Processor wise, the GE also had a dual 450MHz and a dual 500MHz processor. These would be a plug and play upgrade.
You could also use a processor from a Quicksilver, by adding power to the 4th mount lug of the processor daughtercard.
These processors range from 733MHz to dual 1.0GHz.
    More regarding that topic here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9354289
Most any aftermarket processor from old makers like Gigadesigns, FastMac, OWC and Powerlogix will work. Current makers of CPU upgrades from Newertech and Sonnet are also available.
Single processors are available up to 2.0GHz and duals up to 1.8GHz.
    3. Besides adding more memory (she has 1.5 GB) is their anything else I can do to make her faster?
In OS 9, 1.5GB is the max RAM supported.
In OS X, 2GB is fully supported. 4x 512MB DIMMs are the max RAM supported.
A new hard drive (current ATA/IDE model) is always a great way to boost performance. Old drives are just that, and don't have the cache and other technological benefits that current drives do.
    Graphics can also be boosted.
Find a PC version of a Radeon 9800 Pro and flash it to Mac ROM, or, buy a pre-flashed card on eBay in Apple Components.
The 9800 Pro is the top upgrade for 2x AGP graphics machines.
You can also add USB 2.0 support with a PCI card. Get any card that has the NEC chipset, and you are good to go.
Don't forget to get a later model optical drive.
Any Pioneer model will have the best native support in OS X.
In OS X versions lower than 10.4.9, use the appropriate Patchburn utility to get full burn support.
There are other possibilities, but this should get you started.

  • HT204003 how can i print a boarding pass image file from passbook?

how can i print a boarding pass image file from passbook?

I do not believe that Passbook supports printing. You can email, but not print. Then again I'm not sure what it actually emails, if that is a graphic of the card or what. I'm going to try it with my Starbuck's card, but there is no setting for printing within Passbook.
EDIT: Actually it sends the email as an attachment for a Passbook card file, that cannot be handled by my computer. Hope that answers your question.

  • X48C board from HELL can't flash bios -- board freezes on post -- help!

I am a pc builder who follows the sheep. I don't push limits or overclock.
Bought an x48C Platinum board because of its superb features. Shipped from Cali to Florida.
Resurrected an older case replaced old power supply with new 750w power supply - expensive - quiet and has the advanced board connectors (8 and 24 pin) Runs almost silently.
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3ghz)
Video: Asus Nvidia geforce 8600 card
RAM: SuperTalent, high quality dual channel ram, 2x 1mb  for 1333 bus
Inserted the ram (as shown in manual) and added turbo cards...
Discconneted everything else inside the case. Just wanted to post to the bios.
    Power On
1- system light ups, fan on CPU starts for two seconds -- then everything STOPS
2- a few seconds later, system awakens and starts again
3- system freezes on Microstar logo screen post
4- Turbo cards never light up
(sometimes the system quits and reboots -- forever -- or until I shut it down)
Read the support threads and saw my problem was NOT unique. Tried these variations.
One RAM mod - with and without turbo.
Tried usb mouse and keyboard - instead of ps2.
If I hit the TAB key the very moment I boot, I can see that my post will switch to dos -- and goes as far as identifying my ram, the cpu -- and a message about engaging the USB ports -- and that is where it freezes... or.. sometimes starts its reboot.
Thought it was the RAM --
Replaced Supertalent RAM with Kingston RAM -- that the configurator on their web site recommended for this specific board.
    Still, same issue.
Tried downloading the flash drive bios solution. System freezes before the usb drive can engage. So, no, I cannot flash the bios.
I'm thinking MSI knows about the problem -- because the board has fallen 80 dollars in price and other competitor boards with the x48 chipset is still higher priced.
Any ideas other than calling Tech Support and chewing their ears off?

You can find the official CPU Support Liste here:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1393&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
It should show all the information you need.
If you want to go for a cheap processor just to update the BIOS, look for a supported Celeron processor (Celeron 420 / Conroe-L for example).
In case you have an internal floppy drive laying around, you can also try to force a BIOS Flash via the AMI BIOS Recovery Procedure:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_AMI_Recovery.asp
That does not work in all cases and not with all floppy drives.

  • Can't sign into apple support communities with icloud apple id

i realise this isn't the right community for this question, but apple don't have a support category called "apple support".
i have that problem where I have an appleid called "frumbert", which I got about 10 years ago. it is and always has been tied to my gmail email address. i used this for about 5 years worth of itunes purchases, then forgot it for a couple of years.
when I got an ipad I also got an icloud account, and stupidly signed up using my gmail email address as my icloud username. it's tied to the same gmail email address as my existing "frumbert" account. i've since made all my itunes and app purchases using my icloud appleid, and it's the one associated with my mac warranties and such.
so two appleid's share the same email address.
i can't sign into apple support commuities with it because I need a new username. i can't create a new username because the email address is tied to an account already (this one, the old one, "frumbert"). An account utilizing this email address already exists. Only one account per email address is allowed on Apple Support Communities. Apple's way of saying you're c-ockblocked!
but I can't also change the "frumbert" account because there's another account with the same email address, my icloud one.
fark! how does one get out of this mess?

I'm having the exact same problem and so are a lot of other people. Apple's solution - shut up and create a new account just for the support community.
    Smells outsourced to me!

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

How can I stay on the Support Communities without signing in all the time?
    Thanks

You will be signed out as soon as you quit the browser, or within around 5-10 minutes of closing the window. The only way to stay signed in is to keep a window open all the time, either working in other tabs, or minimizing it and then going on with something else in a new window. It's a pest, but that's the way it is.
