1 Is the file schema based binary XML.
2. The limits are dependant on storage model and chacater set.
3. For all NON-XML content the current limit is 4GBytes (Where that is bytes not characters). So for Character content in an AL32UTF8 database the limit is 2GB
4. For XML Content stored as CLOB the limit is the same as for character data (2GB/4GB) dependant on database character set.
5. For SB Based XML content stored in Object Relatioanl storage the limit is determined by the complexity and structures defiend in the XML Schema

Should large video of stills be broken down into smaller videos

I'm in the process of making a video consisting of several stills (should last about 1/2 hour) for a high school dance team. Each segment (football, basketball, competition, etc.) will have 30-40 pictures in it. I have resized all of the pictures and changed the PAR in Photoshop. Should I make each segment a separate AVI file and bring each of those into a new project at the end? If so, should I do just one music track in the final project or have each individual segment have it's own music track? I plan to have scene markers for the DVD and will add some videos at the very end.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

There are a couple of ways to do this. One would be to do a Sequence for each segment, treating these like "Chapters." This is how I most often edit similar. As these Sequences often differ in mood, and theme, I do the music for each, independently.
Now, if one wanted to treat these in one Timeline, Nesting should be fine. One could then do a common soundtrack for the entirity, and could also add certain Effects on a "global" basis, over the entire Nested Timeline. This would allow one to "span" several "Chapters" with one soundtrack.
Normally, I keep these separate, and even do a a separate Timeline for each in Encore. This allows me a tiny bit more latitude, when doing my navigation. Because of this method, I never use Chapter Playlist, have no Chapter Markers, but use Playlists (similar, but different) in all cases.
In the end, the choice of how you gang these individual Sequences is yours, and should be based on what you want from the final Project, and how you will be establishing your navigation in Encore.
One caveat: there have been many problems, where one has ganged separate Assets on a common, single Timeline in Encore. Some get their Project to work fine that way, but others have issues. I like to keep my Timelines clean, with one Video Asset and one Audio Asset. To date, zero problems.
Good luck, and I'm glad that you first, resized your stills to the Project and that you did not go with Encore's rudimentary SlideShow feature. I never use that, unless absolutely pressed. My SlideShows are all done in PrPRo.
Please let us know which way you choose, and how well it works for you. Workflows can be highly personal. What works perfectly for me, might not be your cup-o-tea.

I can't open pdf files I have down-loaded from Safari (6.0 and OSX 10.8) with preview or acrobat. I get a corrupted file message. Anyone have a fix?

It worked for me. I took a picture with the iPhone's camera. Then opened the Photos app and selected the picture, and emailed it from one of my IMAP accounts to my gmail (also IMAP) account. When it showed up in the gmail inbox (on my iPhone), I forwarded it to my yahoo mail account (choosing the "inlcude attachments" option). When that showed up on my iPhone's yahoo inbox, the picture was there just as it should be.
So I guess the next thing would be to try it with non-iPhone pictures to see if it is a problem with image size or something. I have some 6-megapixel images in iPhoto I can try (taken as RAW/DEC format pictures with my dSLR).
Just tried it sending a Photo from my computer's iPhoto library - picture is 728KB, 2272x1704 jpeg. I emailed it to my gmail account, and it showed up on the iPhone just fine. Then I forwarded that to my yahoo account and again, it showed up just fine on both the iPhone and reading my yahoo mail via the web page.
Don't know what to say - I don't mean this to be just another "works for me" post. I was hoping to see something maybe depending on the size and origin of the picture.
By the way, my 3GS shipped with 3.0.1 on it, and I've updated it via iTunes normally to 3.1.1 and currently 3.1.2. Sorry I don't have anything constructive to add.

Single object imported from Illustrator broken down into Graphic Frames

Whenever I try to copy and paste a gradient layer from frmo Illustrator, it appears correct- but is broken down into 4 uneven 'graphic fames' - when I resize, it gets allmessed up..

Bob, pulling in the gradient from Illy isn't working for me. I'm using ID 5.5 for Windows. I'm trying to paste in a button and it comes in as pieces and I cannot resize it properly (the gradient goes whacko). I tried just doing a simple box with a gradient so I could recreate the button, but the swatch does not appear in the panel. I tried changing the preferences and that just made it come in as a bitmap instead of a vector. What am I doing wrong?

The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner in a strip including all that left hand. When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal. But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode. My large flat screen is relatively new.
The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

That sounds like a Hardware problem.
You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

Can't Import large .avi file from digital camera into iPhoto 08

I have a digital camera with a 4GB SD card. I was shooting video and have several small .avi files on the card and one large .avi file (2.67 GB) on the same card. I did not have a problem importing the small files. iPhoto hung while trying to import the large file. I read in this forum that I should use Image Capture, which I tried. When I used Image Capture on the smaller files (just to see how it worked), my camera would flash while it was transferring. When I tried Image Capture on the large file, the camera did not flash and after about 20 minutes, there didn't seem to be anything going on with the transfer. I also tried an old card reader through Image Capture, and that didn't work either. Should Image Capture be able to handle this size file? Do you know of any way to break up the large file into smaller files on the SD card? What am I missing? Thanks!

Canon's cameras do not mount on the Desktop. It's a 'feature' of the brand.
There are several possibilities for Image Capture - including minor directory damage on the card etc. The only solution is get the card to mount, and that means a recent Card Reader.

How can I put these files from my dropbox into MS Word?

After using migration assistant, I had 2 user accounts set up by accident. I finally figured out how to move/share files from the cloned user account to my new account. Anyway, I moved all my music and pictures into itunes and iphoto, but now, how & where do I drag and drop my pdf, excel, & word files into Microsoft Office? Similar to a PC, you can open Word, Excel, etc., and use the File/Open command to navigate to any folder, including that drop box, to open files. Also similar to a PC, you can store Microsoft Office files in any folder inside your Documents folder, so you can simply drag your Office files out of the drop box and into whatever project folders you have created within your Documents folder, and then open them in Office from there.
You can also open any of these documents in Word or Excel by dragging them to the appropriate application icon if they are visible, or if you have added Word, Excel, etc. application icons to the Dock you can drag the documents there too. That last part is much like on a PC where you drag a document from any folder to an application icon in the Windows Taskbar.
As you can see there is actually very little difference in how this works between a PC and a Mac.

I am trying to adapt a script that uses Max (an audio conversion tool) to convert files in a folder to another format. The original script which I found on a forum asked the user to choose the folder with the files in which need to be converted, but I want to specify the folder in the script so that it can be automated. So I changed the line:

to

However I then get the error (this is the only line in the script I changed and the original script works fine):

This saves a string (Macin...) under the variable sourceFolder. You then try and use sourceFolder as an alias which doesn't work. To fix the situation try saving sourceFolder as an actual alias in itself. For example...

Either of those should correct your problem.
When using "(choose folder)" you get an alias returned which is why the original script worked fine.

How can I convert JPG files in multiple subfolders into PDFs with a batch?

So here's the situation. I'm sitting on 400+ files, each in its own individual subfolder which also contains 4-10 other files. Those files I don't care about, only the .jpg file. I want to be able to take all of those .jpg files and convert them into PDFs, saving them in the same original folder. I've tried making an action to do this but it selects all the files in the folder and converts them as well.

it's under the first step, the one where you select which folder/files to
process. There should be a window there to select which file types to
process as well. Untick everything except for JPG and it should work...

How/Can i put a file from my library into my podcast section of itunes

im listening to a podcast that isnt on itunes. I put the feed in the first night i listened to it and downloaded the 4 most recent episodes. i went back a few days later and downloaded 8 older shows but i got them straight from their website, not through itunes because they arent listed on the podcast directory. how do i take those 8 files and add them to the podcast section with the other 8 episodes?

Rename files and move them into new folders with part of original file name

I have tried using automator and other programs such as name Name Mangler with no luck.
I am trying to have an AppleScript run when files are added to a folder, using a service through Automator.
File names come in 9 different suffixes, all with the same prefix.
Example:
nonspecificprefixSUFFIX
nonspecificprefixOTHERSUFFIX
nonspecificprefixALSOSUFFIX
I am trying to get the program to create a folder named after the prefix, then to remove the prefix from the files after moving them into this folder.
There are 9 different suffixes that should remained unchanged.
End goal would be to have child folders named nonspecificprefix, nonspecificprefix2 etc each with 9 files only containing the suffix portion of original name.
If anyone has any tips to get me on the right path that would be much appreciated! I have thousands of files to rename and move so this would save me loads of time!

I was not able to systematically examine this issue, because it occurred on a production system and, of course, I uninstalled the Adobe iFilters as soon as I read that they may delete pdf files. Before the uninstallation I noticed the AR9 folders appearing on c:\ and moved them from time to time to another folder. Using the search function inside this folder, I found that all files were present in duplicate at least. I concluded, that after moving the AR9 folders they were recreated containing the same files. Consequently, these files cannot have been deleted. Searching for the origin of these files I found that they were part of pdf portfolios, therefore my conclusion that they are part of the indexing mechanism of the portfolios. What I have not done (and what I am not going to do since it is a production system) is to fill a folder with pdfs and track what is happening to the files.
In case of my server, I think that the iFilters did not delete any files. Of course I cannot say what happens on other systems. I am definitely not going to reinstall the iFilters before knowing what they a really doing to the files.
