Can a Mac Book Pro playback 96K WAV files?

Trying to listen to a 96K WAV file through the headphone output of a 2009 Mac Book Pro.  Does anyone know if that is possible?

96K 24 bit.  I can play it back on my audio interface but I'm trying to find out if someone without an interface can hear an accurate version of a stereo song mix at that resolution.

no, but it will lead to you needing a new battery sooner. http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you're told the computer's incompatible, no.

Thanks very much for the instructions.  I encountered this problem this morning myself and the recommendation fixed the problem immediately.  When things like this happen with iCloud and Pages it makes me wonder if I might be better off using something else, having just recently had to fix the problem that the current Pages can't read documents I created with a much earlier version until they were "upgraded" by an interim version.

Can you suggest what I should do apart from shutting down word documents and other software, Parallels, Windows 7 when using FCP?
I am gravely concerned with this high heat. I have to use a remote keyboard it is so hot, but gravely concerned with with the damage the heat is doing to to MAC BOOK PRO RETINA.
ironic - given I switched to Mac from PC this year JUST for  FCP editing.
BTW - I am a film lecturer advising thousands of K-12 teachers and a have a report to deliver to the Education Department shortly.
    Please advise. Many thanks. Schbang

You didn't mention what sort of work you're doing - if you're just cutting video this shouldn't happen.
My suggestion would be to optimize all of your media to ProRes .
Even though PR is a much larger file it's much easier on the CPU. Playing back compressed media is like rendering all day.
I routinely use an old 2007 MBP with a core 2 duo and FCP7. I can cut and color correct with no problem at all using ProRes LT files. The only time it gets hot is during long renders.
I have the laptop elevated on a pedestal that allows air to pass underneath . During long renders I  point a small fan at it which often cools it enough to shut the internal fans down.
All that said, I know the retina is a more compact design and components are much closer to each other.
So, I'd be interested to hear from another retina owner.
    Good luck.

  • I want to take files from my PC (using a Seagate external hard drive) then plug this Seagate External hard drive into my Mac Book Pro and move the files from the Seagate External Hard drive onto my Time Capsule. I do not want to put these files on my Mac

I want to take files from my PC (using a Seagate external hard drive) then plug this Seagate External hard drive into my Mac Book Pro and move the files from the Seagate External Hard drive onto my Time Capsule. I do not want to put these files on my Mac. How do I do this? Where do I put these files on my Time Capsule? Will it affect the functioning of my Time Capsule?

Mixing files with data is not always great idea.
    See info here.
    Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Why not just connect the PC directly to the TC by ethernet and copy the files over?
It is hugely faster and much less mucking around.
In windows load the airport utility for windows.. if you have not already as this will help you access the drive.
    There is more info here.

  • I have just purchased a new mac book pro, and transferred my files from my old macbook. however all the song in my iTunes library have lost their ratings

lost ratings from itunes libarary following transfer to new mac book pro

    [user]/Music/iTunes
You'll find the library files there.
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
THOSE files contain your Library information, and the need to be moved to the same folder on the new Mac.

  • Can the mac book pro play pc games

I am planning on buying a new macbook pro and I was wondering if it will play pc games or do i have to get a mac verzion of them?

Buy a MacBook Pro you need for everything else, I suggest a 15" antiglare or larger, this way your secure online and portable.
Then for 3D PC gaming get yourself a Windows 7 gaming tower with a quad core i7 and expandable to 4-8 or even 16GB of RAM with a decent power supply, and where you can select from a veriety of the fastest video cards and of course all the latest games come out for Windows.
A Windows tower like this should last you a long time as a gaming machine as you just switch out the video card every year to keep up with the latest 3D games and not becoming fragbait.
Also most all games come out for Windows, use the Windows tower for gaming and offline uses, don't use it for anything Internet or file transfer related and it should remain secure. Use the Mac for all the risky stuff on the Internet, it's safer.
With a MacBook Pro (or any laptop) as a 3D gaming machine, it lasts about a year and a half, then you start having to drop the detail to keep your frame rate up with improvments in the game. You can't upgrade a video card in laptops.
The MacPro doesn't make a good 3D gaming machine as there are hardly any up to date video cards for it, you pretty much get what the machine came with and your stuck. (if your intersted, wait, they are due for a refresh)
If you can't spring for both machines, then get a PS3/Slim for your HDTV and 3D game on that. MacBook Pro for other uses.
As you can see with this chart, Windows towers blows away everything

  • Restoring my mac book pro after copying the files off via target disk

Hi guys any help would be great.
I had a problem with my hard drive in my early MBP, after seeing an apple genius, who said it was mostly likely a software issue and wiping the disk and reinstalling everything shoudl fix it.
So as i didnt have an up to date time machine back up, i used the target disk utility to copy the files from the drive over onto another mac (actualy on a networked harddrive)
no i have completed a wipe, and reinstalled the operating system (snow leapeard as thats the last disc i had - MBP was on Lion prior to the issues)
now i want to restore all my files from before.
what is the best way to do this?
can i just drag and drop each file from the networked hard drive back into the coresponding ones on my MBP?
    thanks

Only your users files inside music, pictures, movies documents etc folders.
Nothing in Library, nor Applcations, you do that you hose the account and the apps won't work anyway, at least most of them.
or i will have to reinstall the aplications but i tunes and so on will be able to find the files?
yes and reinport music into iTunes so it goes into the new itunes library file, ditto with iPhoto Library (old) righ click and "show package contents" and import the Originals folder contents into new iPhoto library.
support files have paths in their files that go to the path on the origanl system, you changed that so the paths are off, so you import the original files again.

  • Windows 7 on Mac book pro photos missing from files Does it happen often?

Photos keep disappearing from files when saved from the net using Windows 7 .Has this happened to anyone else?
    Thanks
    John

Just how are you Copying and Pasting?
    Do this.
Open Windows Explorer, or Computer, and make sure the Folder Pane is showing. Click on Computer, Not Libraries or you Usename, and Browse to the folder the images are stored in, whcih may be in your Username folder under Users of the C:\ drive.
Once you have that folder open in the Left Hand Pane Select the images you want to copy, you can do that by selecting the first image in the folder then hold down the Shift key and select the Last image you want to copy and all images in between the first and the last will be selected. If you want to select only a few images and they are not all in a row then click on the first and then hold down the Ctrl key and click on each image you want to copy, that skips the images in between the ones you want to select.
Once you have all the ones you want to copy selected, whether all or skipping some, Press and hold the Ctrl (Control) key (On the Mac keyboard it may be a different key. My Mac is off right now and I'm on my windows desktop so I can't check) and Press the C key (No Caps, just c). Then Browse to the External drive and select the folder you want to paste them to and Press/Hold Ctrl and then the V key (again no Caps just v). You should see the copy dialog window open and the images should start copying to the external. Do it this way I bet you get NO errors.
If you do get any errors, other then a file of the same name being in that folder, then what you have done is Saved Internet Shortcuts, Links, of those images and not the image files them selves. To really save an image from a web page you must Right mouse click on the image and from the dialog that comes select Save Image As. Otherwise it is going to save the Internet address of the image and not the real image.

I need to use Keynote on my MAC Book Pro 13 with Apple TV for meetings where network is secure and can't be joined. iOS8 allows an iPad to connect without joining if Bluetooth is switched on. Can the MAC Book Pro 13 do the same?

  • I am still running OS X snow leopard can my mac book handle the jump to yosemite

I have not updated the OS X because I was comfortable with the set up and honestly too lazy to figure out the quirks of a new system.I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8   Now my safari browser is completely out of date and I can't view any web pages.  Can my mac book pro 2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 handle the upgrade to OS X yosemite? Or will this just completely slow down the computer?

    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite

  • Jumpy video playback from iPhone 5 to Mac Book Pro

    Hi
I recently took some footage on my iPhone 5 and downloaded onto my 2007 Mac Book Pro via iPhoto. Unfortunately, mid download iPhoto became unresponsive and I had to Force quit.
After restarting iPhoto I saw that the videos had not been downloaded so I started the process again. It was a seemingly successful download so I deleted the videos from my iPhone.
Upon playback all the video's are jumpy. Other older video's all ready in the library are fine.
It seems all the info is in there as each time I play a video back I see different parts of the video ie: the jumps are not all in the same place each time.
    Is it a playback 780 v 1080 issue?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Mark
