Can a Mac running OS X Server be converted to just regular OS X?

I am considering buying a Mac Mini; it is configured to run OS X Server, but I was wondering if this can be overwritten just with regular OS X? I ask because whilst I am attracted to the spec of the Mini in question, I don't intend using it as a server. Do I indeed need to overwrite the OS, as I know that Server comes with all of the regular OS apps, etc.
Thanks in anticipation of any advice given. :)

Yes, it can. You can simply remove the Server app, all OS X Server really is is a GUI for existing UNIX software. You don't need to reformat & reinstall.

  • Can 10g OAS run 10g Report server and 6i reports together?

Re-posted from the OAS thread: Can 10g OAS run 10g Report server and 6i reports together?
We have need to run 6i and 10g reports from the same physical server running OAS 10g.
    Are there issues / conflicts?
There are hundreds of 6i reports called from many applications. Converting completely is a separate project on the books.
The need is to utilize 10g graphs on this urgent project. The graphing in 6i has not gotten along here with RAC and other distributed architecture. Additionally, I believe the 6i graph runtime would have to be installed on each client workstation... again, hundreds.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
You can install OAS 10g and Reports 6i on the same server as long as they are installed in different ORACLE_HOME ..
Take car to the value of the variable PATH ..

  • Can my MacPro running OS X Server 10.4.8 be headless?

    Hi, all.
I'm running OS X Server 10.4.8 Server on my Intel MacPro. Can I run it "headless" and still have all services startup? It seems that if I boot it up and don't login, then the services don't start. (Or maybe they are started and I'm just not giving it enough time). Anyway, since I'm going to be using this as my business server, I'd like to put it in the corner and not have a monitor, KB, mouse, etc. attached.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance...

That's what all of us with Xserves do. Get a copy of ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) to do remote admin. The ARD client comes with Mac OS X (server and non-server), so it will already be on your MacPro. Some people use a VNC program such as Chicken of the VNC, but the features of ARD are well worth its price. Very nice.
Server Admin, Server Monitor, and OS X Server Install all can be done headless. Only those few programs that do not have client/server type operation will require that you ARD over to the server to admin.
    Good luck.

  • Can my mac running 10.5.8 install 10.6?

How do I understand whether my Mac running OS X 10.5.8 can upgrade to OS X 10.6? I don't know what the requirements are, and I've looked at them on the internet. All I know is my specs:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro 15"
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro1,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.16 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      Memory:          2 GB
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHETHER MY MAC IS CAPABLE OF INSTALLING OS X 10.6, PLEASE??
    {*bangsheadonkeyboard*}

Yes, any MBP with an Intel processor  and 1-2 GB of RAM (and I had a 1,1 version, too, and the last update I could make was to Snow Leopard) can run SL.
You'll have to purchase it from the online Apple Store - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard - and then install the updates until you get to the 'latest' version of SL - 10.6.8.
Only $20 plus taxes and shipping - and the only way to get your hands on it.
    Good luck,

  • Standalone VDS - Can it be run as a server process?

    Hi All,
I noticed that a standalone installation of VDS can only run in a logged in user session on the windows server in order for it to have a ldap port active. Is there a way we can have vds ldap port listening without having it running in a user session, e.g. making it a windows service. If the user logs off the session in which VDS was launched then the ldap server does not run. What are others doing about this?
    Cheers
    Leo

You can run VDS as service.
    You can see that here

  • Can a MaC run these programs

I need these progrmas for work so I was wondering if I can run these programs before i go out and purchase a MacPro...the first one is DocMaster and the next is a file format and its a .PRN file...does mac support these items? hope to hear from anyone soon...would really help me make my decision...
    MACbookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Google is your friend! :-P
There seem to be multiple apps called DocMaster, and they are all Windows-specific:
    http://www.docmagic.com/download/docmaster.jsp
    http://www.stratussoftware.com/docmastermain.html
    http://www.omnisys.co.il/itsolutions/main.asp?lngCategoryid=1930
.prn is a Windows-specific file format for printing purposes, basically what you get when doing a 'print to file' on /Windows. Unlike PostScript (.ps) or PDF it's not cross-platform.

    So, no.

  • Can all macs run .app files or .jar files?

    Hi everyone,
I'm very confused concerning .app and .jar files. Do all macs natively have the capability to run .jar files?
If not, could i use the jar bundler to create an .app file (would that run on all macs)?
    thanks

.jar files are Java files. They may or may not run on most Macs because most Macs do not have Java installed. But one can bundle the Jave interpreter so that Java need not be present on the target computer.
.app files are true executable applications.

  • Can OSB XE run on a server other than the database system?

I have a 2 node 10GR2 Standard Edition RAC using an EMC SAN and ASM. However, I can't attach a tape drive directly to the database servers because they have no available slots for SCSI controllers. Is it possible to use OSB XE installed on a separate system (which would act as the administrative and media server) with a tape drive to back up the RAC database, or does XE only permit backing up a system which contains both the database and the tape drive? (I'm not too concerned with backing up the OS). If so, would the backup contain archive log threads for both RAC nodes?

OSB-XE may be used for a single-server environment only. You describe 3 hosts in the environment. The only way you could use OSB-XE would be to have one host configured as your admin. server, client and media server and only back data on that server. If you are backing up the database, then OSB-XE must be installed on the database server which also must then be configured as your admin server and media server....it must be direct attached via SCSI to tape drive.

  • Can my mac run a script every 15 minute?

I have osx 10.7 and indesign CS5, and I use a script I run several times a day.  Would it be possible to have my mac start this script automatically - maybe every 15 minute?

    Hans!
I have been testing this script for many times, and every time it fails to close the indesign-document! The original script you wrote (the small one that did not kill Apple-script-popup) did manage to close indesign-documents.
    Any idea why?
I have changed my Indesign script so it does not end the job with a jolly popup message, so that problem is solved.
The only problem left is the timeout message from Applescript.

  • Can a mac running windows with Boot Camp be found by Find My iPhone

I'm running Windows on my MacBook Pro via BootCamp and I'm using the Find My iPhone iCloud app on my iPad. My MacBook Pro cannot be found by Find My iPhone, it's labeled as off-line, even though it's connected to the Internet.
So my question is this: is there a way for Find My iPhone to see my Mac while running Windows. Note, I've already got iCloud for Windows installed on the Windows side of my MacBook Pro (and Find My Mac turned on on the Mac side, and while on the Mac side, it's always found, no problem.)

    ckuan wrote:
When you iPhone is not connected to the Internet either through 3G/Wi-fi or because it is off then you cannot track it.
If FindMyiPhone is enabled, even if the iPhone is off or not on wifi/3G, it will still show in FindMyiPhone under Devices, though it cannot be located.
If it is not showing No Devices, FindMyiPhone is not enabled.
If it does show in Devices and shows Offline, FindMyiPhone is enabled but it is off or not on wifi/3G.
This is one way to remove the activation lock if you do not have the device. Delete it from FindMyiPhone in iCloud.

  • Ever since updating to latest version of Firefox it has been painfully slow on my Mac running OS 10.5.8.

Ever since updating to latest version of Firefox it has been painfully slow on my Mac running OS 10.5.8.
Websites just hang, and never get to where they are supposed to go. The status loop on tabs just spins and spins but never loads the site. Go to the same site on Safari and there in a second. It is like dial up slow. Have tried all the troubleshooting tips(reset, delete/re-create profiles, uninstall/reinstall, updated flash) nothing works.
Firefox had been working fine until latest update. What gives?

'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in Safe Mode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''
