Can a Macbook battery get too cold?

Can a Macbook battery get too cold? I am worried that the new battery I ordered online got too cold while being delivered, and while sitting outside for a few hours. Could this damage the battery or cause it to have a shorter life?

Hi. It should not harm it. But let it get to about room temp before you install it.

  • Macbook Pro battery getting too hot

    Hi,
I got my macbook nearly 2 months ago. its 2012 13"macbook pro n i have running mountain lion 10.8.2.The left side gets too much hot.i think its battery. its my clothes like jeans which keep me save otherwise, it would burn my skin! the heat up happens within 15-30 mins. i have istat and its telling me my fan exhaust is between 3k-4k.sometimes it even goes to 6.5k. I also have issue of battery. i read that after 10.8.2 update the battery isssue get solved but mine got worse. i get 3 to 3.5 hours tops. what is wrong. should i get it fixed because its just months old and being so much heat up n instead of 7 hrs i get 3 hrs.

    What programs are running?
This is the biggest factor in battery life and fan speed. For example, I have Safari open at the moment. If I open World of Warcraft my computer will do exactly what you have described and if I close it again it will go back to "normal".

  • MacBook air get too hot

I have MacBook Air 11 Inch.
It's get too hot whenever I used MacBook. Also whenever it gets hot my Mac get slow.
It was not like that when I bought it.
I like to format my Macbook Air. Like I like to have my MacBook air like first time I got it.
    How i can do it?

well you cant really fix that issue but if you run heavyt apps it tends to overheat but it will not damage the machine thats why they have fans to coll them off
if it gets really hot then take it to the apple store and there might be a problem with the cooling system

  • If macbook retina gets too hot, can it shorten battery life span ?

hey guys, when I'm gaming on Windows in bootcamp, I'm getting temps upwards of 176 degrees F. Is this normal ? Can it damage the battery life span ? For instance, if battery reads 8 hours on full charge but now it reads 7 hours with same processes running each time

No, that will lenghten its life. Using the MacBook on the battery is what shortens its life.
If you're running Lion your battery will run down much faster than on Snow Leopard. Lion runs in 64 bit all the time where Snow Leopard only ran in 64 bit as needed.

  • How cold can a MacBook Pro get without any potential damage?

Bought a new MacBook Pro for my wife for Christmas and left it in my car so she wouldn't find it. It got cold last night, probably 20 degrees F. Would that have damaged the machine?

These are the ranges Apple publishes:
    Ciao.

  • Does anyone feel that Macbook easily gets too warm?

I was a PC user and I never felt my IBM gets warm this easily. Is it common to macbook, or I need to take my computer to Support to check it up?
It looks to me that my vent doesnt have the plastic cover over it as an earlier post has suggested.

yes, my 2Ghz MB gets warm very quickly after a cold start, given the CPU isn't working hard. The CPU cores are at about 60C as others have said.
Not tried to measure the case's temp, but it is not lap-able, just like my older, P4 (around 1.6-1.8Ghz) notebooks, ThinkPad T, Dell D320 and HP/Compaq nc6000. It is obvious.
The MB is powerful, CPU not usually working too hard. But when I imported 2Gb to iphoto, the CPU had enough work to kick in the fans. It got a bit noiser but it cools down so much that I thought it was definitely cooler than normal. I have a feeling that Apple has set the firmware to tollerate 60C at idle but spin the fans regardless of temperature when CPU is constantly under load.
I would recommend you to get a sleeve or something. I bought the standard sleeve from Wrappers (their heat protecting one is out of stock) and it is now lap-able. MB's design doesn't require me to give airflow to the bottom (unlike my old HP) so it didn't make it even warmer. In fact, even a magazine would do the trick. This is my 1 of only 2 problems with the MB, the other being stupidly low max volume on the speakers even though it clearly can handle much more!

First check that your Mac meets the System requirements for Lion...

If so Contact Apple in your Country to Purchase a Lion Download code...

  • Can a MacBook Pro get a virus?

My log on image changed on its own.  I'm wondering if this was caused by a Trojan horse virus or other malicious virus.  Should I be concerned?  What should I do?
    Thanks

Relieved to know it's not malware.  I read all of the Mac Malware Guide.  Very informative and helpful...thanks!
I still don't understand why my log-on photo changed.  Yes, I changed my Address Book card recently.  But, I didn't change my picture.  It was a photo of myself.  It hanged to the eagle that can be selected from the Address Card dialogue box.  I didn't select anything there.  In fact there's no picture at all in my card in Address Book.
This Christmas I got an iPhone 5 and a iPad mini.  So, for the first time, I started using iCloud to sync my contacts, email, etc.  That's why I started updating and changing my contacts.
    Thanks

My  Mac was being very slow then died and when I turned it on it had 4 messages asked to allow or deny these programs with weird jumbled letters do I denied then it wouldn't let me use y wireless and reset the day to December 2000 when I didn't even have the computer? My wireless on my iPhone works though? I even played around on my other desktop with the network and can't figure it out any suggestions?

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have it tested.

  • N73 ME Battery HEATING TOO MUCH - Please Help

N73 ME Battery HEATING TOO MUCH - Please Help
    Hi Friends,
    I am from India
Need Help/Suggestion from Mobile Gurus right here
I have 1 Year Old N73 ME and I mainly use it for Calling and Texting. Very Occasionally I use it for Music/Gaming and Browsing the Web.
The phone is completely in excellent condition
The problem is that: While charging ONLY the Battery gets too much HOT and it never shows Battery is Full (Charged it for Max 1 Hour 45 Minutes)
This problem suddenly appeared, so I formatted the Memory Card as well as Hard Format/Reset the Phone, but still the Battery is heating too much
After disconnecting the Phone from Charger, the Battery is FULL and I can use it without any problem and as usual. The Talktime right now is around 2.5 Hours and Standby time is around 2-3 Days
Please tell me what to do
If you want any additional details I will post here
Thanks a Lot and With Best Wishes

    Hello Sir,
    Thanks for your response
I would like to add that the Temperature here in my city is around 43 Degree Centigrade (yes! centigrade, I am from Middle state's of India) everyday. Is this problem is due to so much heat?
    Thanks again

  • Too cold? Too hot? Recommended enviroment temperature for iBook/Mac?

I have an iBook that is going to reside in a garage and while the climate is somewhat controlled, it gets pretty cold in the winter and will get fairly hot in the summer.
Is this hard on the computer (I'm assuming heat will be worse than cold)? What temperatures do I want to avoid? Can it get too cold for a computer?
    Thanks.

    Hi farmboy,
The Specifications for the iBook (Late 2004) show the following:
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: -13° to 113° F (-25° to 45° C)
    Does that help at all?
    Have fun,
    Adrian

  • HT2424 where can I get a replacement a1185 macbook battery

Where can I buy a good replacement a1185 MacBook battery?  Thanks...

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

Or for $129 from The Apple Store  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA566LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
I've bought used MacBooks off of eBay for my family, seven of them so far over the last 4 years. I've bought 8 batteries off of eBay sellers, just going with the cheapest. Only had one with a problem, it gave out after 6 cycles. That one was replaced under the warranty by the seller. The only other batteries that have been a problem were Apple branded batteries that started bulging. I've had two of those happen.
Apple doesn’t make any batteries. They buy them from the same manufacturers that the third party sellers are buying from. The only difference is that Apple has their logo imprinted on the battery.

  • Macbook pro retina display 15" charger getting too hot... any advice?

I have had my Macbook pro retina 15" since Jan 2014 and it has been working fine. Just recently, I have noticed that the charger block and the connector to the laptop gets extremely hot as does the actual laptop. I have looked around on the net and most of the discussions regarding this have been on earlier models. The charger block itself is so hot that it emanates heat and is too hot to touch! The plug into the laptop is pretty darn hot as well. When charging, I can't keep the macbook on my lap because it gets too hot.
I have checked all the connectors and the connections of all bits involved and they all seem good. I have also tried to minimalise all programs that are running.
Just wondering if someone can suggest anything, otherwise it looks like a trip to the store
    Many thanks in advance

Bfore you run to the store try this SMC ret, it fixes

  • Sir since update of ios 8.1.2 i got serious battery problem on 3g 4.30 hrs my battery gets low and sometimes serious net probelms please give an update for this issue its not alone me my friends too getting many problem lcommonly battery problem

sir since update of ios 8.1.2 i got serious battery problem on 3g 4.30 hrs my battery gets low and sometimes serious net probelms please give an update for this issue its not alone me my friends too getting many problem commonly battery problem please can this be resolved
its not related to any hardware because last year april i got replacement new phone from apple and i maintained it well...!

Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.
Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Also take a look at these tips to prolong the battery life again:
