Can a MacBookPro mid-2010 be downgraded from 10.9 to 10.8 or 10.7 ?
Have a used MacBookPro from 2010 (2.66 GHz i7, 8GB RAM) with many installed apps (such as CS5 Suite and Logic Pro X). This laptop was upgraded to 10.9 prior to my purchase. Some parts of Adobe CS5 and Logic programs are not working properly and/or updating properly. Maintenance programs have been run and there are still problems.
I'd like to reduce/downgrade the OS to less than 10.9. Will a "downgrade" from 10.9 to 10.7 or 10.8 be permitted and successful ?
Thank you.
MacPcConsultant,
you can’t downgrade the installed OS, but you could erase the internal disk, reïnstall its original version of Mac OS X (either 10.6.3 or 10.6.4) from its grey Mac OS X Install DVD, reïnstall its iLife apps from its grey Applications Install DVD, run Software Update to get it to 10.6.8, and then optionally upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 and run Software Update again to get to 10.7.5 or 10.8.5 respectively.
You should have received two grey Apple installation DVDs when you’d purchased your MacBook Pro. If you didn’t receive them, contact Apple directly to purchase a replacement pair. (They’re not available in the Apple stores.) The Applications Install DVD also has your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test.

Hello,
Since the last update 10.6.8, my MacBookPro mid 2010 randomly loses the connection with my wifi AppleTV2 2. It works well with the connection between myPC and filiaire AppleTV2 els and between my iPhone 2 (3G and 4) and AppleTV2 butpoorly between the MacBookPro and AppleTV2.
Then I must quit and restart iTunes every time to continue to read my films. I repairedmy permissions, I restore my 2 AppleTV2 but that do nothing. I concluded that it is a loss of wireless connection. I do not know exactly what to do ...
If anyone can helpThanks you rbrian, it seems that your solution is good because after some tests it works very well

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015
Any further assistance will be appreciated -
MacBookPro mid-2010 setting up WiFi connection takes more than 5 seconds
When I open the lid of my MacBookPro (mid-2010), it sets up the WiFi connection. This takes about five seconds. If I unlock my iPad, the connection is there almost immediately. Is there a way to speed up the MacBookPro, setting up the WiFi connection?
Still running Snow Leopard, not Lion.Have a cup of coffee while you wait the five seconds.

How can I export midi to pro tools from my iPad garage band
I'd like to take songs I've written in midi on the iPad garage band, export the midi files to my PC which uses pro tools 10 so I can work on them more there, and use the score creator...here is why, when I sit around and write a song on iPad, I'm using virtual instruments, I'd like to be able to first, have more power..ie pro tools..to mix the tracks, then also be able to print sheet music from the midi so I can recreate the midi tracks with real instruments, when I'm writing the stuff with midi on garage band, it's I can't remember what I played where by the time I've moved the midi notes around a little etc etc..and I'd like the actual recording to be real instruments not virtual, as I want a very professional sounding recording.. Any ideas?
Thanks in advanceIf the folders were created in the Photos app on the iPad, they don't really contain copies of the photos. They contain pointers to those photos that allow them to appear in the albums that you create. Consequently, they cannot be imported to the computer. Those albums are for local organization on the iPad only And cannot be imported.
You should be able to select the indicidual phots that you want to import, as far as I know. I can do it on a Mac using iPhoto or Image Capture, so I assume that Windows will allow you to pick and choose which photos you want to import.

Can't Restore Exchange 2010 Mailbox DB from HP Data Protector backup
I'm trying to implement Exchange 2010, but I won't feel comfortable moving many users to it until I've successfully restored a mail database from tape backup. So far, this hasn't worked out so well. I'm using HP Data Protector for my backup solution.
Here's what I've done:
1. In DP's "Restore" GUI, navigated down to the MS Volume Shadow Copy Writers entry, then selected both "Files" and "Logs" from the DB's entry under Microsoft Information Store. I'm not restoring any of the other Writers. So that I don't have to take down Exchange, I'm restoring them to a temporary restore location.
2. After the restore completes, I go to the temporary restore location on the server and run eseutil /mh on the database, which returns a "Dirty Shutdown" db status.
3. Since I have the log files, I attempt to repair using eseutil /r E01 in the log files' path. This generates "Operation terminated with error -1216 (JET_errAttachedDatabaseMismatch, An outstanding database attachment has been detected at the start or end of recovery, but database is missing or does not match attachment info) after 10.608 seconds."
Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong with this recovery? If my steps are incorrect I'd love to know, as HP's documentation for restoring Exchange 2010 is very young and not terribly useful. My ultimate goal is to be able to restore a database from DP's tapes and bring it back online on the Exchange 2010 server.
Thanks!
Thanks!Hi Ben,
We backup our primary database (Ex Writer) and always with full backup (DB+LOGS). When we restore we restore to alternate location, then manualy copy db file and everything from restored log directory to one folder (for example: d:\restore_DB1). At this
stage DB is in dirty shutdown state. Then we run (in folder where we copied db file and log files)
Eseutil.exe /R E00 /D
it takes a couple of seconds (160GB file) and the db is in clean shutdown state. Then we do:
New-MailboxDatabase -Name “Restored DB” -Server MBOX1 -EDBFilePath “D:\Restore_DB1\DB1.edb”
-Logfolderpath “D:\Restore_DB1” -Recovery
and
Mount-Database “Restored DB”
now we can restore single mailbox or even single item from mailbox with:
1: whole mailbox with overite the destination
Restore-Mailbox –Identity “USERNAME” –RecoveryDatabase “Restored DB”
2. whole mailbox to alternate location (new folder in another mailbox)
Restore-Mailbox –Identity “EXISTING MAILBOX TO RESOTRE TO” –RecoveryDatabase “Restored DB” –RecoveryMailbox “MAILBOX DO BE RESTORED
FROM BACKUP” –TargetFolder “NEW FOLDER IN EXISTING MAILBOX”
3. the same as 2 but single item with MEETING in email subject
Restore-Mailbox –Identity “EXISTING MAILBOX TO RESOTRE TO” –RecoveryDatabase “Restored DB” –RecoveryMailbox “MAILBOX DO BE RESTORED
FROM BACKUP” -SubjectKeywords "MEETING" –TargetFolder “NEW FOLDER IN EXISTING MAILBOX”

Can't print to PDF after downgrading from acrobat 10 to 8
I tried the trial version of acrobat X pro and later uninstalled it. Now I can't print to PF because of this error: windows can not find c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 10.0\acrobat\acrotray.exe --- how can remap the path to the printer back to my acrobat 8.0?
Try checking the startup folder for AcroTray. If it is there, check the properties and repair them. You may have other issues to fix in the registry. Is the AA X folder removed completely? If not, remove it and then run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner to help cleanout the left over parts of AA X.

How to upgrade from HDD to SSD in Mid 2010 13inch MacbookPro?
I am upgrading from HDD to SSD and would like the step by step direction of how to do it on my 13inch MacBookPro mid 2010. Also, I would like to do a clean install of the OS onto the new SSD, and simply transfer my data(i.e. documents, pictures) from the old HDD to the new SSD(Samsung 500GB)
Any detailed directions would be appreciated. You may send responses directly to my address: ******* Thanks in advance

Thanks. How do I booth to IR? Won't I need to connect to the internet to be able to booth to Internet Recovery... Please give steps as I am pretty new to this.
Turn the Mac on (or reboot it) and press command-option-R as soon as you hear the startup chime. Hold the keys down until you see a globe, then release. When the Recovery Menu appears you choose Disk Utility and format the SSD for use in a Mac (Erase>Set Format to MacOS Extended (Journaled), then exit Disk Utility and choose Install OSX
You will need to be connected to the Internet and your Mac should detect your network and ask for a password automatically when Recovery Starts. -
Macbook pro 15-inch, Mid 2010 crashing very bad after mavericks update
Hello Community,
I updated my 15-inch, Mid 2010 macbook pro from snow leopard to mavericks with the gratis update that appeared one day in march i believe. Since then its been crashing sporadically with the simplest of actions like creating a new folder. I thought it was due to some peripherals USBs (which sometimes helped when unplugged) but now i cannot single out anything.
I must admit I am not really knowledgeable when it comes to software fixes, but i will try to do anything you recommend can help. (really would like to avoid a clean sweep of HD...)
Thank you all in advanced,

Thunderbolt Bus:You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may have a logic-board defect covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they should still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro Mid-2010 (MacBookPro6,2) from a USB drive, since my Super Drive no longer will burn DVDs or CDs. I did the XCODE trick to allow me to make the bootable USB. But when it reboots after partitioning I get this, "No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" message. When I press a key after reinserting the USB it still won't boot after pressing a key. I unplugged anything connected to it and it still doesn't work. Is there any way I can get it to be recongized or do I just need to get an external disc drive and burn a disc that way?
If your computer came with an inetrnal optical drive, you must use that to install Windows.

What screw size do I need for the HDD data cable in 15" MBP (mid-2010)?
In what turned out to be the most frustrating night of my life, I decided to upgrade my mid-2010 15" MBP from the factory 256GB HDD to a 1TB drive. All was well until the ultra-cheap internal screws stripped, which I have heard is a big problem. I finally got the mounts out with a little force, and then accidentally tore the HDD data cable.
So when I tried to unscrew the small screws with precision and care to replace the data cable, those screws ALSO stripped. I managed to get one out, but the other one was stuck, and even the Genius at Apple said they couldn't do anything for me because their methods of extraction could possibly ruin my upper case.
So I ended up just cutting the rest of the HDD cord around the last remaining stuck screw. I've included a picture below, the screw that remains is the one with the red circle around it.
So the real question: I lost the other screw, so I have no idea what size it is and if I can buy it from a local hardware or electronics store, or is it something I will need to special order?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Signed,
Screwed by a simple harddrive replacementHey Courcoul, thanks for your response. I saw that they have the screw set, but I want to avoid paying $60 for the whole set when all I need is the two tiny ones. Sure, I could keep the rest as spares, but I think I've learned my lesson about messing with the internals.
Actually, it's out of stock so I couldn't buy it if I wanted -
How to connect 2 or 3 externadisplays to the macbook pro 15" (mid 2010, i7)
I have a new MacbookPro (mid 2010, i7) I have 2 HP monitors (20") and a big TV (50") I am setting up a classroom. I want to display 1 screen on the TV (which is behind me) mirroring a secondary screen I have in front of me, and also have another secondary screen in front of me.
So far I tried connecting only 1 HP monitor and the TV connected to an HDMI splitter (after the minidisplay to HDMI adaptor) using an HDMI splitter, and I only get the image on the HP monitor, the TV is black.
I have been reading about the USB to DVI boxes and they seem to work but not with the latest MacbookPro (i5 and i7).
Anyone knows how to achieve this setup in my computer (1 HP (DVI) mirrored on a TV (HDMI) and an extra HP monitor (DVI))?
ThanksYou will need to talk to the tech support people at Matrox about whether or not you could do what you hope to do with a TripleHead2Go DP Edition. I suspect you would be limited to an undesirably low resolution (1360 x 768 or lower) on all three external displays. I don't know of any other possibility for such a setup, other than running it off a desktop computer with multiple graphics cards.

Spry TabbedPanels - panel shifts left in IE when hovering on tabs (only)
