Can a network drive appear in the event library?

Question

Is it possible for medias to remain on an external network drive?
This will allow to moove events away from the internal Hard drive that is getting very full.
At the moment, I have the target drive as a shared drive in finder and I can access it when importing. But it is not showing in the event library.
Is there a setup to do?

AFAIK FCP X supports SAN, but does not support networked drives in general.
One possible workaround is to create a disk image in the network drive. If you mount the disk image using the Finder, it will appear to FCP X as if it were a local disk. It can be used to store events and projects. Of course, you should make sure that the network is fast enough - which should be ok, provided that it is gigabit ethernet and with little extra traffic.
So, the idea would be to create a sparse disk image - make it as big as you like (being sparse means it can be created as, say, 300GB, but won't occupy drive space until you actually add content to it),  format it as mac os extended (journaled or not). Mount the disk image. Start FCP X.
Be extra careful with backing things up, as this creates another possible failure point, as sometimes disk images can get corrupted (all the more likely, as they are being written over the network).
One other point: if you quit and restart FCP X, it will try to remount the disk image. If, in some instance, you don't want that to happen, you should option-Quit ("Quit and discard windows"). Then FCP X will not auto-remount the image in the next start.
