Can a Numbers file be 'fixed' if I can no longer open it?

Using Numbers '09 v2.0.5 and update regularly. I can still open another file (only one worksheet vs. 'corrupted' file has many worksheets in it - few formulas) that I created about the same time in 2007 and do not remember any significant event happening that this would occur.

I can't guess if something is recoverable without having the doc.
Send it to my mailbox and I will do my best to recover something.

I repeat : if you got this behavior it's mainly because you don't apply the basic rule:
keep chronological versions of your important documents.
If the version stored at 10 h 20 is OK,
if the version saved at 10 h 30 is corrupted, you may resume to the 10 h 20 version.
If you don't do that, the datas are lost.
It's really not difficult to understand that.
My AutoSave script was designed for that.
It keeps a copy of documents in progress every 10 minutes.
If the format in use is the package one, the chronological copies are zipped so,
(a) they occupy less space
(b) they may be recovered by recovery tools in case of crash.
Alas, I may build the tool but I can't use it for you.

The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
4. Partition your drive.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Numbers files are not compatible with MS Excel. To share a Numbers file with Excel you need to export you Numbers file in MS Excel format. To do this:
1) Open you Numbers document
2) select the menu item "File > Export..."
3) select "Excel" for the target output
4) click next and select where to save the file.
5) email the file you saved

One numbers file keeps updating and i can't access it even on icloud.

I tried reinstalling numbers aplication syncing with icloud but this is permanent.
Last time i had use it i was sharing the file sending an email as an xml file.
How can i get my file back in use?

Thanks for your post. It set me searching again, as I had the same problem. And contrary to "most of us" I occasionally do use Numbers on Mac and Pad. It appears the problem is not with iOS. Files are uploaded smoothly from the Pad to the Cloud. The problem then is to download it from the Cloud to the Mac.
And contrary to what Apple seems to suggest, this is not quite seemless. So it appears to be a Numbers/ OSX issue and not iOS.
The solution I found on the support site was to connect the iPad via USB to the Mac and sync. In which case you may just as well disable iCloud for Number, unless you have more than one iOS machine.
There appears to be another way to sync it, which comes halfway to the "seemless", as it does not require the USB connection.. It is presented as a sort of afterthought. http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/documents.html)
1. go to http://www.icloud.com/iwork and sign in with your iTunes account.
2. go to the Numbers file.
3 access any file synced from your iOS machine, or drop the file from your iMac that you want to sync.
Presumably the same goes for Pages and Keynote.

Can a corrupt file be fixed?

Hi all,
I'm beside myself here. I created my first ever Captivate
project and was so elated! I published it and then realized I
needed to tweak it a bit. I went back in to do a few tweaks, logged
off to make the kids dinner, and when I tried opening the file
again I got an error message "Adobe Captivate could not open [file
name] because it is either not a supported file type or because the
file has become damaged". I really, really need to get this file
back. It took me over 8 hours to create and I just don' have the
time to recreate it (because I have 8 others to do before November
14th). These projects are for a Masters I'm working on; I could
always submit the corrupt file in the published format without
being 100% but, as a bit of a perfectionist, that doesn't sit well
with me.
I'm using Captivate CS3 on a Vista Premium OS. The .cp file
did not crash once or hang while I was working on it. The published
file still works excepting a video I put in that didn't have the
necessary metadata (which I was in the process of figuring out how
to do). The video was rather small (3mb); the entire file 160mb.
Am I out of luck?

Hopefully you aren't out of luck.
Questions:
* Where is your project?
Local C drive or on some sort of a network drive? If it's on
a local C drive, the corruption is likely caused by something else.
If it's on a network drive, that's a large reason we see projects
corrupting. Try copying to C and see if you are able to open it up.
* How many slides are in the project?
We normally consider between 50 - 65 slides to be the very
broad and very general "upper limit". Of course this will vary from
project to project and PC to PC. There are a great many factors at
play that affect things.
** Overall number of objects involved (Buttons, Click Boxes,
Images, Captions, etc.)
** How much audio is present
** Available PC resources (Low disk space, not enough memory,
too many apps running at one time, etc.)
** Overall size of the recording area (800x600 vs 1024x768
etc.)
One way to try and recover is to try creating a new blank
project sized identically to the errant one. Then attempt to import
the slides from the errant project into the new one. Either a few
slides at a time or all at once.
Assuming that nothing you do changes anything, you should do
a couple of things.
1. Please report the issue as a bug
2. Please ask for a project decompiler. As you said, you have
a working file that is viewable. Sure would be nice if there were a
way to launch an application that would pull that working output in
and spit back out a working source file. Problem is, it will likely
never happen until enough users as yourself scream at Adobe and ask
for it!

Total CAN node numbers in a fixed range

Assuming the communication range is 5000m of a CAN bus network, I'd like to know how many CAN nodes can be loaded and keep the communicating rate at 250k/s .due to some one told that the more the CAN node in a network , the lower the communicating rates. Thanks.

Hi David,
You are right, there are certain limitations regarding the number of nodes in the network and the length of the bus (or the baud rate accordingly). However, the number of nodes is usually limited by characteristics of the individual transceivers used by the CAN nodes as each transceiver influences the overall impedance of the network.
In this particular case however, I have doubts. The ISO 11898 specification calls out a maximum cable length of 40 m at a baud rate of 1Mbit/s. Thus, in order to achieve a more than 100 times longer range you would need to decrease the bit rate to a much lower value than 250 kbit/s.
Also, the DeviceNet specification lists 200 m as the maximum length when using a 'thick' cable at a baud rate of 250 kbit/s.

hello my screen is broken and i can find how to get it fixed on the apple web site they have no catagory for it saying screen repair i just put random things and where it says put in a detail descripton i said i needed my glass reapired and i said that i randomly selceted things to tell them i need my screen repaired. they said they will send me but if its not for the resaon i put it in for repair will they still repair my screen ??????????????????

Apple will just send you a replacement iPod; they don't repair your original unit. And they charge a flat fee for out-of-warranty service no matter what the issue was. So it shouldn't matter what information you supplied, though you can call Apple tech support and clarify if you wish.

The application "PREVIEW" can't locate files, cancels shutdown. How can I remove these files from PREVIEWS memory?

Does anyone know how I can stop this program from looking for files? Every time I restart PREVIEW gives two errors while it's searching for image files that are no longer there. FYI this is a lingering problem related to the replacement of my hard drive (under recall from apple), iphoto had to be totally rebuilt many times through technical support. Now there's just this program still trying to open phantom images.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Plug in your iPod.
In: edit->preferences->ipod, make sure that 'Enable Disk Use' is checked.
You can't put games on your iPod, at least not games that will run on your iPod.

Can't Turn File History ON, but Others Can* on Same PC in Windows 8.1 - Why?

The title says it all... that IS my problem. We've tried Homegroup T/S, App T/S, .. and Tried to get the Microsoft "Fix It" tool from the Download Center, but the site keeps taking us Back to the DC start screen, even when we are signed in.
Along that same line, I cannot lookup the information about any KB updates' information unless I'm NOT signed in[???]. When Not signed in, some* info is there explaining somewhat what the update is about ... but After I sign in, the site (knowledge
base) can find Nothing at All..(???).

I can't attach files in gmail using firefox, can you help?

I'm not sure if my previous question went through, so I apologize if this is a duplicate. Starting today I'm unable to attach a file to email when using firefox (31.0), function works when using Safari. When I click on the "attach file" button, my search browser does not open. Nothing happens.
I've read through previous posts of similar problems, have restarted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, and cleared my history and cache. Unfortunately none of these attempts have been successful.

If you can't add attachments to Gmail messages then you need to add an allow exception to allow pop-ups for the Google website.
Easiest to do this is to click the padlock on the location bar and click the "More Information" button to open the "Tools > Page Info" window with the Security tab selected.
Proceed to the Permissions tab
Remove the tick on "Open Pop-up Windows" > "Use Default" and click the Allow radio button to change the permission to allow pop-ups for this domain.
