Can a photoshop layer be sliced in half

I was working on Photoshop and wanted to know if there is a way to slice it into two equal halves, left and right.

Yes. There is the Slice Tool, and Slice Select Tool located under the Crop Tool in the Toolbox.

Can't delete layer in photoshop

Sorry this was the closest forum I could find.
I added a layer in a photoshop to change the skin tone of a photo slightly. However, I am not happy with it, but when I delete the layer nothing changes. It seems I can delete the layer, but the actual effect remains. Does anyone have any idea how I can delete the layer and remove any effects within the layer at the same time?

Can the Adobe Photoshop Layer Support with Captivate 4 be use to show a Zoom & Pan Effect?

I'm working with a client that is interested in creating the "Zoom & Pan" effect you get with Camtasia using Captivate 4. I'm not finding enough information to support that this is possible with Captivate 4. The Photoshop Layer Support feature with Captivate 4 comes across as something that may work to some degree however, it is again unclear if it would definitely work to give the zoom & pan effect I am looking for. Would anyone mind explaining this feature in greater detail and/or offering any ideas for how I can show the zoom & pan effect in Captivate 4?

LOL, good luck with that!
NOTHING in Captivate will achieve what you are seeing in Camtasia. Sorry, there simply is no comparison. Sure, Captivate has panning while recording, but what you end up with are several herky jerky snapshots of suddenly being in a different screen area. Sort of reminds me of walking through a room while slowly closing and opening your eyes. In other words, you are seeing version 1 of the panning feature. We hope it improves, but it's not there yet.
If you have Camtasia, you could combine it with Captivate for some nice and interesting effects and have the best of both worlds! I do that.

Scale Photoshop layer using AppleScript

Obviously, this is a Mac PS issue.
I am trying to script scaling a Photoshop layer (a smart object layer) to a specified percentage that I calculate from a layout in InDesign.
However, I am stumped on the syntax I should use to actually get the layer to resize, or perhaps I don't know how to call out the layer properly.
Here is my code (it is very simple at this point in time:

I would appreciate any help with this. I run this script and no error messages occur, but then again, nothing happens to the Photoshop layer I have targeted.

There are 2 things I see that are not right… top right should a compiled word pair from the apps dictionary… You have it as string…
Now anchor should be anchor position but I can't get this to compile inside your list… hum… if I take it out it works just fine…

Extract XMP metadata from specific Photoshop Layer in After Effects

How do it extract XMP metadata from specific Photoshop Layer in After Effects?
I am just getting my hands dirty with metadata.
I know it is possible to attack metadata to a layer/layerset in Photoshop, but how to I get it out in After Effects.
Here is the process.
I create BunchaLayers.psd.
Using the PerLayerMetaData.jsx file attached.
I use the setCommMetadata("something") function to attacked metadata to a selected layer.
I know that is is there because I check it using the exportLayerMetadata().
I save and imprt BunchaLayers.psd into AE as a comp.
Here I am lost.
I select my layer in the project window and check the XMP metadata window.
I can't find my comment.
Is the XMP data actually attached to the layer I imported in AE?
I want to be able to select the layer and see that the data is attached. Is this possible?
If it is will it work on layersets (comps in AE)?
I would appreciate any layer specific XMP insight.

This was the article that made me think this might be possible.
There is also the preference to Create Markers From Metadata

Which made me wonder if there is a way to create the metadata in the first place that made it something AE would read and automatically change to layer markers.
Any ideas?

I want to do actions based on the tagged layer color (these thing 1) in Photoshop. I can't find a property inside the JavaScript documentation or the ExtendScript Toolkit that might contain the value.
I'd prefer not to abuse the name for that, the layer tags look like a very clean solution to my problem. If only I could fetch them.
Any Ideas?

Photoshop Layer Styles do not come over to FCP

I have a .psd file. It's a logo on one layer with a blank (alpha channel) as the background. I want to put a stroke on the logo. In photoshop, I use blending options to add my stroke.
When I import the file into FCP, it does not have the stroke. I tried other effects (drop shadow, bevel, etc) and none of those come over to FCP either.
So is it known that photoshop does not recognize the photoshop layer styles? Or am I doing something wrong?

Even if I can somehow do this, why can't FCP just understand these layer styles... It works so well with photoshop, but there's this one issue. And if I rasterize it, I'm not going to be able to make it bigger later. Kind of defeats the purpose of wanting to go back and edit it later on..

Can't select layer mask, also some tools not working -- in CS2

Hi, I have a couple image layers (each created by merging several others) that each also have a mask attached. I cannot get the layer mask selected on either one. I have found that I can delete the layer mask, and start with a new one and make edits, but it is a one-time shot: once I de-select it I cannot get back to it to make any further changes. (I have only a standard mouse, not a Wacom tablet/pen mouse, nor does anyone nearby, or perhaps even in the building. See: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbfe832 )
Also, when I have the layer selected and try to draw on it (in black) with the Brush tool, it paints red. Then I was able to Erase the red brush strokes just a minute ago without disturbing the integrity of the image. However, I just tried it again and more red was painted onto the image layer (in the currently assigned size of the Eraser).
Incidentally, yesterday and this morning I couldn't get the Eraser tool to do *anything* at all.
Everything I *can* do does show up in the History palette.
I also just happened to notice that when I select any layer in the doc that the small frame appears around the thumbnail to indicate it is selected, but that the entire row itself does not become highlighted as it normally does. And when I check the eye to make the layer disappear, the red brush strokes (both from the Brush and Eraser) still show.
I generally work on a network, but after I started having these problems I moved the file to my desktop and have worked from there since early yesterday with apparently increasingly odd issues. I have a co-worker who experienced the same inability to select the layer mask a couple days ago, but his system has since returned to "normal" (and while continuing to work across the network). you really should. imo, the quick mask is one of the best and most flexible selection tools available in photoshop! you should either check out the help on it (F1) and/or google for some tutorials.
I set mine (double click the quick mask icon in the tool bar) so that painting black paints a "selection" rather than a "mask" (painting white clears the selection). in that way, the quick mask tool in effect becomes a quick selection tool that can take advantage of all your various brushes and brush effects (opacity, flow etc.) when making or adjusting selections.

I really do suggest that you re-visit Bridge especially the CS4 version.
I just cannot conceive of trying to use a Digital camera, a Scanner or the Creative Suite programs without using Bridge and ACR.
I can even use it to read PDFs and inDesign documents (all pages!) without opening Acrobat or InD..

It is now far more effective and efficient to do that in Bridge than in the Finder.
This is where you would find the new Collections feature to be invaluable:
Just select all the images and other files connected to a project from any folder and drag their icons into the same Collection.
You then have all aliases (previewable at full-screen slide-view size with one click of the space bar in CS4) to ALL of your files which are now visible in. and openable from, a single panel.

Glass and Metal Photoshop layer styles

Just wanted to share some of my Photoshop layer styles with my fellow Apple users I've been working on these for a while now, building up a huge collection of textures (from my own photography) and turning them into styles. Hope you like them.
These are some of my metal styles for Photoshop, from a set called MetalWorks Professional. All in all, there are 140 different metal styles in the set, including gold, silver, aluminum, copper, and steel.
And these are a few of my glass Photoshop styles, from a set called GlassWorks Professional. This set includes 320 transparent styles, in red, green, blue, and clear glass. They're excellent for creating glass text effects, or decorative designs.

Editing imported Photoshop layer in Flash CS4?

Hi, When I import a Photoshop layer into Flash, for my flash movie, it doesn't matter whether I import it as a bitmapped image with editable styles, a flattened bitmap, or a Flash Layer, etc (I've tried every option,,,,,)
I can't edit it in the sense that I am unable to go in and take the eraser tool and erase a section of the scene on that layer that wasn't created in Flash. I can draw on it in Flash and modify it that way. I can effect it via tweens enlarge, alpha transparency etc. But I can't erase part of the graphic that I created outside of Flash in Photoshop.
I've tried erasing on the graphic itself, also after it's converted to a movie clip - inside the movie clip's timeline etc. It doesn't work. As I said , I can draw on it and effect it but I can't erase part of what was already in it before it was imported from PS4.
Is this a characteristic of Flash or am I doing something wrong?

I think I've got it. The original graphic is a bitmap. So, I need to "break it apart" which converts it to vectors. Then I can "erase" from there. Probably, I'll end up doing this editing part in PS4.
Sorry everyone, I'm still new to this and as you can tell, still barely scratching the surface of Flash. If anyone wants to comment, please do so because I truly get lost in space and a heads up letting me know I'm going in the right direction would be great!
Believe it or not I have Flash books, I actually read them, and take courses via dvd. But I couldn't get anywhere close to completing my projects without the help I get from these forums.

Which Apple computers can run Photoshop CS 6 Extended?

I'm buying a new computer, but I need one that can run Photoshop CS 6 Extended with the video and storyboard features. My 2011 Macbook Pro 13' without discrete graphics was not able to, but my mid 2010 Macbook Pro 15' was. I want to make sure that my new computer would be able to run the program. Can somebody help me? Is the new Macbook Air (or the one from last year) okay? What about the Macbook Retina 13' or 15'? Thank you so much!

this Adobe page lists the system requirements for Photoshop CS 6 Extended. It looks as though VRAM might have been the stumbling block for your 13-inch MacBook Pro; do you know how much RAM was installed in it? Apparently Photoshop CS 6 Extended requires 512 MB of VRAM, and your 13-inch MacBook Pro would only allocate 512 MB to its integrated graphics if it had at least 8 GB of RAM installed. If VRAM was the stumbling block, then a Mid 2013 or Early 2014 MacBook Air with 8 GB of RAM would definitely have enough graphics memory allocated. (I don’t know if one with 4 GB of RAM would have enough; it might.) Similarly, an Early 2013 or Late 2013 MacBook Pro with at least 8 GB of RAM would meet the graphics memory requirement; I don’t know if one with 4 GB would or not.
