Can a power mac g5 run on the same ram as a mac pro?
I have a Power Mac G5 and want to buy some new rame and i was wondering if it ran off the same ram from a Mac Pro, Specifically 1 RX8-PC3-8500E-7-10-DO ram type.

You don't need to buy an earlier version of iDVD to have it run with Lion. iDVD 7 has been with us since iLife 08. Tell us in detail what you're experiencing.

Can Xgrid controller and agent run on the same controller?
I am trying to setup an Xgrid on 2 Mac OS X Leopard computers. My intention was setting up one computer as a controller/agent and other computer as an agent so that I can have a grid with 2 agents running on different computers. I setup my grid with xgridctl and using Xgrid Admin, I am able to view the grid on a GUI program. In Xgrid Admin, I also see 2 computers (One is local, other one is remote computer) listed with their IP addresses. Only the remote computer's status is "Available". Local computer's status is "Unavailable".
I was about to conclude that you can not have controller and agent on the same computer but I decided to shoot an email to apple mailing list and expect some clarification.

Can 2 versions of itunes run on the same pc?
I have an ipod classic and an iphone 4. My iphone has been synced with itunes 11. When I tried to sync my ipod, itunes could not recognize it in ver.11 (it never shows up at all when I plug it in to the usb cable.) I uninstalled itunes on my PC and reinstalled ver 10 so that I could put new music on my ipod classic. Now itunes 10 won't allow me to sync my ipone, since I synced it on version 11.
Can I run separate itunes versions under separate users on the same HD? Or is that not possible? Any other solutions?

Can DW CS6 and CC run on the same computer (was: Dreamweaver ?)
I teach using CS 6 in my classroom, if my students download Dreamweaver CC can they work in both versions or will this cause an issue.
The perpetual license version of DWCS6 is now 5.5 versions removed from "current" and in every new version there have been significant menu and functionality changes. If you are trying to "teach Dreamweaver" they will have a fairly difficult time following examples from DWCS6 in the latest version of DWCC 2014.1x (I don't have the latest and can't remember the exact build number)
That being said, Creative Cloud subscriptions allow users to install all the way back to DWCS6 Cloud. Currently, you can have DWCS6 Cloud, DW CC and DWCC 2014.1x all installed at the same time. So, if your students were to become Cloud subscribers, or if the school is installing software for them to use, the old version can be added under the standard subscription using the Creative Cloud Desktop app. -
Can FMS 4.5 be run on the same server as Cpanel?
I am looking at using the FMS 4.5 to take ingress of RTMP live streams and publish HTTP Live streams to a content delivery network. I see that FMS 4.5 has an apache build to do the http part, We have two dedicated servers running Cpanel/Webhost Manager that are litely loaded.
1) Could we accomplish this using the apache that is part of Cpanel?
2) Or, does the FMS need its own apache using port 80?

You may very well customise your external apache to work along with FMS to use the HTTP live streaming features.. However there are some Apache's version specific things that you would need to take care of..

Having two background brarchive running at the same time with -f 1 options
Good morning,
I need to run two brarchive in parallel as background process.
I would like to have on for the save and one for the copy.
I need that because they would have different files.
1. Is this configuration supported or not?
As a file is created for the locking (.lock.bra) I have the feeling that a single process is supported?
2. Just to double check, can I run two brarchive with two different config file in a serial manner
(lauch the 1st one, wait for its end, launch the 2nd one, waits for its end).
3. If you are using that kind script on your systems, could you please provide them?
4. If brarchive is launched by a script how do you shut it?
Do you do just a kill of the script or do you kill it and send another signal to the brarchive if it is currently running?

For me, there two advantages for doing that.
1. You start it once, when you start sap, and it runs regularly
2. When you stop sap, you stop braarchive. Then you are sure that no crontab jobs are going to be started when you have stopped SAP.

It works well.
I can use it because we do a single copy of the archive log up to now.
We are going to run two brarchives (one to save to a tape robot with backint and one that scp).
I would like this to run as daemon.
Now, that you have answered that I can not have two brarchives running at the same time (thanks for your answer),
I need to write my own daemon in sh or perl that would do:
1. Run brarchive first run (with -p backint init<SID>.sap file)
2. Wait for the en of the brarchive process and log
3. Run brarchive second run (with -p scp/stage init<SID>.sap file)
4. Wait for the end of the brarchive process and log
5. Sleep during a few minutes
6. Handle stop signal so that it ends the forked brarchive that may be running.
I am sure that people on this forum have already wrote such scripts.
I may open another thread as it divert a little from my original question.

I they both spec with 1600MHz DDR3 memory; four SO-DIMM
AND
I just took out 32G out of a late 2012 iMac and replaced the 8G that my new
Retina 5K iMac came with and all is working FINE.....
BTW the Retina iMac display is incredible ....... -
When I started my Mac the screen was white with the Apple logo and power motion icon running. I attempted to turn off Mac then a message stating "Debugger called: <Button SCI>. Also "Waiting for remote debugger connection." What is my next step?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS. -
my mac is running slow, the spinning beach ball constantly appears. it seems that when i am in the apple store with fast wifi its a bit better. genius at the apple store checked the hard drive, it's all fine. what can it be? can it be a software issue with the wifi?

The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
No IP address, everytime I'm close to my mums mac running off the same wifi, it's giving me this error. I can trouble shoot for about 3 mins and fix it, but it just keeps happening and I need a permanent fix for it. Any help?
this is what you need to do to exclude everything apart from desktop.
on time machine preferences, click on Options
click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop
start the back up. -

Who can shed some light on my ongoing connection problem.
After upgrading my iPad Air with IOS 7.06, I could no longer connect to the internet.
I have 2 MacBooks Air, 1 ipad mini and one iPhone 4S running on the same network, and they are all connected to the net and function well.
So I cleaned up the ipad completely, installed the latest firmware and reinstalled my apps : no connection.
I tried all things of resets and forgets. No result.
I have been fondling with my Airport Extreme 5 , but that did not help much.
This morning I went to a neighbor , hooked my ipad air on his network, typed the password and the thing all worked fine.
I have tried to connect the ipad air as an ethernet client, but that did not work. „Not enough power“ was the statement
Ideas anyone ?Yes I tried this manyfold. But did not work. Reading on, I took Tesserac's advice. Shut down router and computer.
Start router after 15 minutes and wait another 10 minutes before starting the computer.
Et voila.... everything is back in working order,

I installed Windows 7 in my Macbook pro, I can access Windows data in Mac, but I can't copy and delete it. and the same case while i am working in Windows. Could you please guide me if there is any solution, where I could copy/paste/delete my data.
OS X can natively read NTFS of Windows, but not write to it.
Windows can't read or write to HFS+ of OSX, and that's a good thing from a security standpoint.
Ideally if you share files between operating systems you should have a FAT/MSDOS formated USB key or hard drive. (exFAT external drive if any of your files are over 4GB in size) both these formats are universal for OS X or Windows.
If you install software into Windows and OS X to read each others formats, then you have to pay to update/upgrade it deal with headaches.
If you swtich between Windows and OS X a lot, don't need full hardware performance for Windows, you may consider installing virtual machine software like VMFusion or Parallels which can take a copy of your Windows in Bootcamp and place it into OS X as a file then run that copy of Windows in a window in OS X like so.
Advantage here is you run most of your light weight Windows programs like this at the same time as OS X.
Benefit is you can run just about any Windows or Linux version and OSX server editions (not client versions)
Bootcamp only allows Windows 7, that's it now.
You'll also be interested in two fre pieces of software, Carbon Copy Cloner and Winclone on macupdate.com.
CCC clones OS X partition and Winclone clones the Bootcamp partition. Valuable for you.
