Last week I replaced my Startup Drive 128GB SSD with a 3T Western Digital Drive.
I have 200k photos I am going thru 3k at a time using Bridge to rename files and noticed Bridge running slow... FCP has been a champ until it wont launch today.
PLESE HELP ME!

Hi,
Thanks for your time!
I tried hooking up my old SSD Startup disk and I got the same exact error mesages and failed launches. It doesnt seem to the the boot disk.
Is my next option to uninstall and re-install FCP? It doesnt explain wht the other apps are quitting upon launch.
It appears this is not just a FCP issue....
Any other solutions?
Thanks so much!

  • Can a power surge damage the ethernet port?

My internet was working fine, then a storm came in and the lights flickered. Since then my ethernet port says there is no connection even though there is. I have replaced the router and checked the connection and cable on another computer and they work fine, but the imac no longer recognizes my cable plugged into the port, it just says nothing is connected.  I have a surge protector on my imac but not on my router, is it possible a charge could have traveled up the line and fried the port?
I can't find any other reason to explain why it stopped working. Does anyone have any tips on getting the ethernet back up and running?
    thanks

Yes, that can easily happen if the equipment is not protected in any way.

Welcome to the Apple discussion forums.
There are some helpful aids to help you decide if you want to tackle the memory replacement. OWC has video's on replacing memory for both PPC and Intel mini's at http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html There's also a good pictoral step-by-step for RAM on a PPC mini at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/82.13.0.html
Use either the same brand memory that's in it today, or stick with memory from Crucial, Kingston (not valueram), or Samsung. Although I haven't used them, Hynix memory is supposed to work, too. You can scan the discussion groups for other brands, too.
And...isn't hindsight wonderful... buy a power surge strip...

Is your device recognized by your computer? If yes, copy the pictures and videos as shown in this article:
Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer
If it is not recognized, try this first: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Disable autosync in iTunes, right click on it in the device list and choose "transfer purchases" to copy apps and other media bought in iTunes to your new library.
Do the same again and choose "backup", to create a manual backup without syncing.
Since your device will be erased due to the new iTunes library during the first sync, you can use this backup afterwards to restore your settings and data.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer before you start, to be able to merge calendars and contacts.

  • My computer says "Power Surge in Power Hub" when My iPod touch is plugged in. How can I fix this?

I have had an iPod Touch 5th Generation for a few months now. I recently updated to iOS 7. Now, when I plug it into a computer it says "Power Surge in Power Hub". It haas never done this before and when I plug it into a different computer, the same message comes up. How can I fix this?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use. Your error message is a symptom of a bad cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My MacBook won't start up properly, and I suspect it may be the result of a power surge due to faulty wiring in my apartment.  Is this the kind of thing that can typically be repaired, and if so, at what price?

My MacBook won't start properly.  It seems to run, but the screen won't light.  I suspect the cause is a power surge due to faulty wiring in my apartment.  Is this the kind of thing that can typically be repaired, and if so, at what price?

you need to bring it somewhere so it can be determined exactly what is wrong with it and then an estimate can be provided.

One way to add Facicons back is to visit those sites again.
It is time consuming if you really want to have all those back.

  • Can my ipod be revived after a power surge?

Can my ipod be revived after a power surge?

The power surge was into the iPod through the outlet where it was plugged in with a power cord.  I tried the steps mentioned and none seem to work.  When I plug the iPod into the computer via the USB cord...the iPod gets very warm in one of the lower corners but doesn't power up or allow me to recover it.  I'm guessing it's fried.  Thanks anyway for the assistance.

  • Power Surge Fried It- Can I save my files?

My iBook was fried by a power surge yesterday. Wont turn on.
I was wondering if its still possible to save my files if I take it somewhere?? Or even to get the computer running again. I mostly just want my files as I was planning on buying an iMac soon anyways.
    Thanks!

Oh, bad luck! If the iBook won't turn on I doubt that anything can be done re saving the computer. Wait for a few more replies before taking that as gospel though...
In the meantime you can try a PMU reset:
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the iBook
What you can do is to remove the HD and put it into an external enclosure. Once you have your new iMac you can connect the two and transfer what files you want.
For instructions on removing the HD select your model Here then Hard Drive on the next page.
If you're planning to sell the remains as a 'spares or repair', perhaps on eBay, you need to be fairly careful and put it all back together again. Otherwise you can be as destructive as you like until you get to the HD.

  • Computer zapped by power surge caused by lightning

My computer was zapped by a power surge caused by lightning, with my iTouch connected. I just got a new computer and installed iTunes. When I plug in my iTouch, nothing happens. No beeps, no lights, no battery indicator...nothing.
I've tried it on another computer. Same thing happens...nothing.
The iTouch seems to work ok with the content (movies and music) that is already on it, but I cannot get it to communicate with any computer.
Could this surge have damaged just this one part of the iTouch?

It strikes me as odd that the iPod still works but does not synchronise. I would have thought that with the nature of electronics today, that if a strike had affected it, then none of it would work -- guesswork of course. However, the cable does have those connectors at each end and one of those might have taken the force of the strike and thus saved the iPod from damage. Cheaper than a new iPod for sure if it is this.

  • Can power surges corrupt files?

I have a 2 Ghz rev. B iMac that every month or so, gets corrupted files that cause it to hang, both during use, and in start-up. It's worse when the computer wakes from sleep (hangs if I try to even move the cursor too soon after waking) and not as often if I set the computer to never sleep. It rarely boots up completely after an unexpected shutdown. Disk Warrior has kept it running, but it has to rebuild the directory every time, and sometimes I have to do an archive and install before the computer will run normally again. Once I had to do a clean install because the partition was corrupted. Running the extended hardware test reveals nothing. It doesn't run hot at all, and I have plenty of RAM.
I posted this problem before, and was advised it might be the hard drive, but since this has been more of an annoyance than any real threat, I haven't looked into a replacement yet. So I have three questions:
    1. Does this indeed sound like a typical hard drive problem?
    2. If I change the hard drive myself, does that invalidate the Applecare warranty?
    3. Could small power surges have caused this corruption over time? Because I notice room lights sometimes dim when I turn on the TV or ceiling fan. I have since started using a Backup battery supply for the iMac.
Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry for its length.
    G5 iMac 2.0 Ghz Rev.B   Mac OS X (10.4)

Thanks for the input. I do have one further question regarding the logic board.
After fixing the directory with DiskWarrior and doing an archive and install, the iMac will run perfectly for about a month before suddenly slowing down and hanging with the spinning beach ball if I even move the cursor. Do logic board problems pop up this way, after an extended time of running normally, or are they more constant? I'm trying to narrow the possible causes as much as possible before talking to Apple.
    Thanks again.

  • I was in Lightroom and had a power surge and now Lightroom will not launch....what can I do to fix it?

I was in Lightroom and had a power surge and now Lightroom will not launch. It encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit. Lightroom will attempt to fix the next time it launches. I have shut my system down and Lightroom still will not launch. Does anyone have any suggestions?

delete your preview cache (.lrdata folder).

  • I have windows 7, had a power surge that shut down my desktop pc, restored to a prev date, firefox was installed then, now I can't uninstall it. How do I uninstall it now?

Hi I tried firefox as a browser but didn't keep it. Uninstalled it and put explorer 9 back on. Tonight a power surge knocked out my desktop pc totally. When I got it back on, there were start up problems. Start up repair restored to a different date, and it happened to be the date when I installed firefox. I activated explorer 9 again, then tried to uninstall firefox, but the uninstall won't work from the control panel. How do I uninstall firefox now?

If the Control Panel method doesn't work ([https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling%20Firefox Uninstalling Firefox | How to | Firefox Help]), try the program '''helper.exe''' in this folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall

  • Won't let me copy to hard drive post power surge

Ok, to make a long story short, I hope, I had an electrical fire (everyone's ok) that involved and destroyed my laptop's power cord and as part of that fun I seem to have had a power surge that has reset some of the defaults on my computer but not all. Some of the folders I created prior to the surge are gone, etc. The only real problem is that the permissions on my internal hard drive seem to have been reset. Below are the things it will and will not allow me to do.
-- I cannot copy files from a flash drive, cd or external hard drive to the internal hard drive. I get that circle with a line through it. Clicking and dragging, copy/paste, nothing works.
-- I can move stuff that is already on the internal hard drive from folder to folder.
-- I can save email attachments to the internal hard drive.
-- I can copy stuff from internal the hard drive to a flash drive, cd or external hard drive.
-- I can read the files on flash drives, cds or external hard drives, such as a movie file, just fine, they run without a glitch. The peripherals did not suffer any resets as a result of the fire/power surge. When it happened the computer shut down automatically and I think that saved the accessories from being damaged because the computer is the only thing that showed any changes after it happened.
And before someone asks, yes, I checked, I have 40 GB of HD space so it's not a space issue.
I right clicked on MAC HD and did the Get Info and looked at the details of the permissions on various files and tried shifting some of those around but even though it says Read and Write it still won't let me copy to the internal drive from other sources. Interestingly when I got to the User file it was marked Read Only but changing it to Read Write didn't help. Something I did once worked but then it stopped working so I have no idea what it was. I put everything back the way it was. Could somebody please help me? My computer is old and dieing a slow painful death but if I can make it last a little longer that will make my life so much easier. Please let me know if you need any system info or anything.
    *Thank you!!*
PS. I'm not posting this on the peripheral thread because the problem isn't really the peripherals, it's the system not wanting to play nice with others, so that's why I put this over here.

Hi. It's not a dumb question, cause if it is then my answer is really stupid, what's a repair permission? lol I don't know what that is so I guess the answer is no, though I can guess from the name it's a program to fix permissions if the files get messed up? I knew how to change the permissions in Get Info but past that I was getting into things I don't know so I figured it was time to ask for help or I'd be on here asking how to un-erase a hard drive. jk So how would I do that and is there anything else I should do?
Sorry if my initial post was a bit defensive. I had a moderator give me flak over some minor thing on a post once and I was supremely frustrated with this problem. Sorry if it came out kinda angry. I appreciate any help you can give me.
