Can a PowerEdge T300 support 16GB of RAM?

I have a T300 that I'm trying to install 4 sticks of 4GB 5300P RAM into. I install the RAM, but get an invalid memory config error. Looking at the manual, the RAM section lists 12GB and 24GB, with the only 4GB option listed being all 4GB for 24GB RAM. Is that the only way this machine supports 4 GB sticks? Thanks!

Hi,
What model is the memory? Which slots did you install the memory? Do the DIMMs work individually or in a pair? The population rules don’t specify if it needs 6 sticks to use 4GB dimms, but as you said the only example is that way. I would try to make sure there isn’t a bad DIMM before ordering two more.

  • Can MBP17" 2.4GHz support 16GB (8GB x2). 1333Mhz DDR3 SDRAM configuration?

    Hi, dear all:
    I am interested to get myself a 17" 2.4GHz quad-core Intel i7 MacBook Pro, just that I want to make sure that can MBP17" 2.4GHz support 16GB (8GB x2). 1333Mhz DDR3 SDRAM memory configuration.
Or is it just waste money to install 16GB RAM in the MacBook Pro, cause in the menu it says MBP support up to 8GB of RAM.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kevin

If the MBP was built after Feb. 2011, yes it can take the 8GB DIMM modules for a total of 16GB RAM. Apple does not state them as compatible since that type of modules were not widely available for certification when the Macs were designed, and they never go back to recertify already released models. I'm sure that any new model that comes out this year will probably take that new RAM option in consideration.
The question that remains is whether you NEED 16GB of RAM, other than for bragging rights. With MacOS X 10.7 Lion, a full 64-bit OS, 8GB are very recommendable. But to actually need 16GB would mean really pushing the envelope with heavy duty stuff such as virtualization, video processing, graphics rendering, etc. Note that an 8GB upgrade can be had for around $50, a 16GB upgrade for around $200; the technology is still fairly new and prices are still high.
BTW, those prices are street prices. Buying RAM from Apple is a Bad Idea. The 8GB custom option at the Store adds $200 to the base price and they will not sell you a 16GB option.

  • Macbook Pro supports 16GB of RAM memory

    Team,
I have a macbook pro and I wonder if it supports 16GB of RAM memory.
    Thanks.

yes the MacBook Pro early 2011 models and later support 16gb of ram.

  • Will the new 21.5" iMac support 16GB of RAM?

I just bought the 21.5" mid 2011 iMac (the $1,499) model. I also just purchased 16GB RAM from OWC to replace the 4GB that came with it. I thought I had read that the 21.5" model can support up to 16GB, but then read this on the iMac spec page: "Configurable to 8GB (all models) or 16GB (select models), only at the Apple Online Store." Can I install 16GB on my machine (4GB per slot, times 4)? I'm worried it won't work because I've seen reference of 8 and 16 on Apple's site as the max.

The spec page says this, so my SWAG is it'll support 16 GB:
    Memory
More memory (RAM) increases performance and enables your computer to perform faster and better. Choose additional 1333MHz DDR3 memory for your iMac.
The more memory your computer has, the more programs you can run simultaneously, and the better performance you get from your computer.
Select the standard memory configuration to support day-to-day tasks such as email, word processing, and web browsing as well as more complex tasks such as editing photos, creating illustrations, and building presentations.
Upgrade your memory to enjoy greater performance for more intensive computing tasks, such as video editing and DVD authoring
Your iMac uses one of the fastest memory technologies available today — 1333MHz, Double Data Rate (DDR3), synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) — ensuring that the processor is constantly fed with data without wasting clock cycles.
    4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB [Add $200.00]
    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB [Add $600.00]

Thanks for the help and advice !

I don't know because the only info they provide is a part number. You would have to go to the mfgr.'s website to find out the actual specification. It appears to be OK but I would get the real specs for it.
I would consider it wiser to trust my RAM purchases to OWC or DataMem. Brand isn't of any importance but the reliability of the vendor is. Be sure whatever you buy carries a manufacturer's lifetime warranty.

  • Can too much memory lead to a kernel panic on a MacBook Pro? specs 2.4GHz intel core i7 16GB DDR3 RAM   late2011..My laptop began suffering from kernel panics 3 mos ago first noticed using public wifi. Gone thru apple support all the way to engineers

Can too much RAM memory in a late 2011 model macbook pro lead to kernel panic? That is what I was told by a senior supervisor from apple support who troubleshot this issue.First noticed this problem in Dec 2014 while using a private wifi at a relative's home. Did not occur again until Feb1 using a public wifi at a hotel. Never happened on my private wifi network until last night  attempting to use airplay. ( have used airplay before without issue). Late 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.9.5; 2.4 GHz Intel core i7, 16 GB DDR3,AMD Radeon HD 6770m 1024 MB graphic card.  The laptop came with 8GB RAM and I installed 8 GB about 2 years ago for some reason I cannot remember... probably because I thought the system was slowing down a little. I know that sounds silly. I do not run multiple programs at a time except I leave 6-8 website tabs open simultaneously. I don't photo or video edit.  I would describe my use as "light"  based on reading these blogs.I had purchased apple support and spent hours on the phone with them in early Feb moving up through support  and senior support to sending logs to the "engineers." Of course lots of things were done some of which I am sorry to report I cannot recall their technical definitions. Deleted  3rd party apps/programs; re-worked start up menu; re-installed operating system; reset " this, that and the other" using acrobatic simultaneous key strokes both in and out of safe mode..Anyway the results from the engineers came back and they suggested that if it happened again I was to remove the 8GB of RAM I had installed as the system was getting confused as to which chip to use.( that is my interpretation of what was said..prob dumbed down for me)...Anyway 1 day after these pronouncements came down I read that Apple had agreed to fix  graphics cards in some late model 2011 MBPs. I felt this was unlikely to be the issue  given all that had been done including an extended hardware test but called the Senior Support Supervisor I was working with to ask him to make sure. He never phoned me back. Should I go to the trouble of removing 8GB of RAM from my laptop? Of course I will try it as the alternative is a new computer.Blogs read that this model can support 16GB but Apple didn't test for it. Senior Supervisor claims this is my trouble.  Does that make sense?  Not to me....but it is clear to all my level of knowledge.  Can a malfunctioning graphics card be missed by an extended hardware test? I appreciate comments.

The RAM needs specs as shown below.
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

  • Can macbook pro 15 in i7 2.2 GHz support 16GB ram

Can macbook pro 15 inch i7 2.2 GHz support 16GB ram?

    Yes.
But Apple only says/does 8GB and charges $435 to do it.
If you want to save a ton of money, you can do 16GB yourself for $280 and a DIY kit.
Doesn't break the warranty as long as you don't break anything in the process.

  • Does early '11 MBPs support 16GB ram?

I have an early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro. I was just wondring if it will support 16GB RAM? The apple website says it can only support up to 8GB but I read elsewhere that it is able to support 16GB.
    Specs:
CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    RAM: 4GB 1333MHz DDR3
DATE OF RELEASE: Early 2011, 13-inch MacBook Pro

    Mine does.
Crucial.com and macsales.com (OWC) sell RAM that is tested to be compatible with MAC and will guide you to the proper RAM.  I am running crucial 16 Gb now.

  • Can you install 16gbs of ram in a 2012/2013 non retina macbook pro?

the newest non retina macbook pro on the apple website. the reason im asking is that apple only offers 4gbs and 8gbs. does apple not sell 16gbs of ram on the macbook because of price or does the computer not support it? im getting the 2.9GHz dual-core intel core i7 btw thanks for the help.

According to this usually-reliable source, two @ 8GB will work:

  • G780 core i5-3210M supports 16Gb RAM

My worksite was looking for a laptop with at least 16Gb of RAM capacity for image analysis and processing. Took a chance on the G780 with the 3210M i5, as stated max capacity on Newegg was the standard 8Gb.
We used a G.Skill DDR3 1333 2 x 8Gb dual channel  kit and the G780 detected it all without issue. No issues in memtest. This kit has a CAS latency of 9.

  • 16GB of RAM? Can I?

    Hello all,
My Macbook Pro is very slow when I have many apps and programs open. This is because it only has 4GB RAM, I am wondering if I can upgrade it and expand its memory to 16GB, now my question is the following:
How Do I know that my Macbook Pro can be upgraded to 16GB RAM?
I purchased it in March, 2012 so its relatively a new laptop.
Also, Will the macstore install the memory sticks if I provide them? How much would it be?
    Thanks!

If it's a late 2011 model (which mine is - I, too, purchased mine in March of this year) then, yes, you can upgrade to 16GB of RAM. Other World Computing - mentioned by the other posters - is a good place to order from. But I would first recommend visiting the Crucial website and clicking on the System Scanner tab; this will let you know your model and your upgrade options.
8GB of RAM is the sweet spot but I find that I actually 'use' up to 13GB sometimes.

  • Parallels -- 8GB or 16GB of Ram

    Hi,
I am getting a new macbook pro which I will use for personal purposes and work.  In my current computer, I have Windows installed with Bootcamp.  The heaviest lifting I do is in excel where I work in very large excel models, sometimes several at the same time.
I am purchasing a new baseline MBP 15" and with the faster computer I am hoping to run parallels so I don't have to restart every time I want to switch OS.  Would you recommend gettig 8GB of ram or 16GB of ram?
Thanks so much for your help!

The thing to keep in mind is that with Bootcamp, Windows got to use all the resources of your Mac; it didn't have to compete with the Mac OS for CPU cycles and RAM since Windows was all that was running. With Parallels (or other software that supports virtual machines, such as VMware Fusion), Windows is running inside of the Mac OS, which in your case would be Mavericks. Both operating systems are using resources such as RAM, as is the virtualizing software, and you have to make sure there's enough to go around.
So, the short answer is get as much RAM as you can, since, with the rMBP you can't add more later.

  • Which MSI AMD3+ mobo supports 16gb per dimm slot?

I realized I have two sticks of 16gb memory in my 760GM-p21 MOBO......of course since the mobo only supports 16 gb, I knew I couldnt see it all....
I was considering changing to a motherboard that would support 32gb, but then found out that Windows Home 64 only allows 16gb (thanks Mizagorn!)....
That said, can anyone tell me which MSI mobos work with the AMD3+ and also allows more than 8 GB per DIMM slot?
    Thanks!

I was tempted to upgrade to Pro just to get access to my additional 16 gb of RAM.....its just sitting in there.....but like I said the motherboard only supports 16gb.....I didnt realize it had that limit at the time I guess........
Not sure if I can upgrade the OS to pro AND swap a motherboard at the same time without major issues????
I do edit video  (Adobe CS6) and would love the extra oomph....

Up to 32GB DDR3 RAM 8GB per slot.
And if you would like to swap motherboard, then it's rather suggested to reinstall your OS.
If you want more than 32GB RAM then you should look at motherboards like X79 or X99 which can hold up to 128GB of RAM (X99)
