Can a PPC access data/docs saved on a GUID partition?

Using my G4, will I be able to access data/docs saved on a GUID partition on an external HD (connected via firewire or USB, it matters not to me)?
Can I save to a GUID partition from the G4?
When I partitioned the HD I needed one of the 4 partitions to be GUID. I couldn't manage to make the other 3 partitions be anything else - if I changed one from GUID, it changed them all. So, I have 4 partitions all GUID.
Thanks,
Mrs H

Only if the G4 is running Mac OS X 10.4 or newer or the external drive is shared over a network.

See above.
The G4 is running Tiger 10.4.11 (no network involved) so it looks like a Yes to both my questions.
Thanks - so I can proceed as planned...
Do you know, was there a way to partition the external so that not all 4 partitions were in GUID (not that I'm going to repartition, just curious if I was doing something else would it have come out differently?)

Can you still access Adobe PDF SAVED FILES WHEN YOU GET A NEW COMPUTER ? Do you loose the files you have saved on you old computer when you get another computer?

I may not be clear on what you are asking here but I'll try an answer anyway since that's the type of guy I am.
If you have PDF files on your old computer, you will need to transfer them to your new computer. You can use a flash drive or CD if needed.
But again, I think I'm not getting what you are really wanting to know. If I'm not, can you give us some more details?

  • How can I find a data base table containing a GUID, which is result of the macro's execution?

    Hello,
please help me to understand how the macros work. I am facing database inconsistency. The CRM-system retrieves a GUID of an opportunity’s item and checks its existence. However, this GUID (here it is es_info-ref_object) does not exist. As result, an exception is triggered.
I am trying to figure out which data base table is responsible for the inconsistent data. Instead of SELECT statement, I see in the debugger that a macro retrieves the “guilty” entry .
    macro_execute macro_msg_data_read_rea.
My Question: How can I find a data base table containing a GUID, which is result of the macro’s execution?
    Thanks a lot

When you save a PDF out of Distiller it doesn't just have different options, it's an entirely different program. It doesn't do things the same way, so it can't have the same options. Saving from Distiller is in many ways better, expecially in that transparency isn't flattened.
What specific options are you looking for?

The Pages password protects the contents of the document.  If there were a Finder password, it would protect what you might think of as the "file wrapper" ... the stuff around the file content.
Glad it's not vital.  I have to say I only pasword protect those Pages documents that are, in fact, vital.

  • IMac HD can't be used because it doesn't use GUID partition Table

Trying to install Snow Leopard... Really need some help here... The instructions given by the installation program simply don't work!!!!
They state "Use the disk Utility to change the partition scheme. Select the disk, choose the partition tab, select the Volume Scheme and then click Options."
Volume Scheme is grayed out under partition tab which means I can not change it...
Why have Apple not made this public that software can not be installed all machines? A very very poor show!!! I am extremely disappointed! Why do you guys not properly test your software and provide all the necessary tools to do the job automatically.. It seems to me the software has been rushed out with out proper testing.
Please provide me with the next steps... or details of how I get a refund?

All Intel iMac that had Leopard installed using a Mac OS X installation disc (or had it pre-installed already when purchased new) should have an internal drive with partition map scheme of +GUID Partition Table+. If will work if partition map scheme is +Apple Partition Map+ (which is native to PowerPC Macs), but Installer would have insist that it is +GUID Partition Table+ (if the Leopard installation was done using an Intel Mac).
How was Leopard installed on your iMac? You can check the current +Partition Map Scheme+ by selecting the drive in Disk Utility's sidebar and looking at the bottom of the window.
Why have Apple not made this public that software can not be installed all machines?
Apple has release software that can be installed on all supported machine, where Leopard came pre-installed or was installed properly using a Mac OS X installation disc (run on an Intel Mac).
Volume Scheme is grayed out under partition tab which means I can not change it...
You can't re-partition the drive if you are currently started up from that drive. Insert the Snow Leopard disc. Restart with the C key held down to force startup from the optical drive. At the first Installer screen, to up to the menu bar and look under Utilities. Run Disk Utility from there.
NOTE: If you re-partition your internal drive to change the +Partition Map Scheme+, it will be erased. Be sure to have a back up of at least your personal data before doing the next step. If you want a procedure where you can retain the internal drive data and change the +Partition Map Scheme+, please post back; you will need an external hard drive that is at least as large as the data on your internal drive.
In Disk Utility, select your Internal DRIVE in the sidebar. Go to the Partition tab. You will now be able to reset the +Volume Scheme+, so set it to *1 Partition*. Click the Options button, and set it to *GUID Partition Table*. Name the volume ("Macintosh HD" is the standard name for the internal drive volume) and set the volume format to *Mac OS Extended (Journaled)*. When you Apply the change, the drive will be erased. It should take less than one minute.

  • Help Can't Install Maverick "disk doesn't use the GUID Partition-"

I have an imac and i'm using bootcamp fro windows 8.  so I have Macintosh HD and BOOTCAMP Partitions. both partition have Master Boot Record as the Partition Scheme.  When trying to install OS X Mavericks it rell me that "This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme. ..." it tells me to use Disk Utility to select the disk ->partition -> select Volume Scheme and then Options... but option is grayed out... I can not change it and so can not install Mavericks... how do I solve the this issue without losing any data in mac and in windows? without deleting partitions if possible?
    thanks

GUID is a drive map layout. You can only change it by opening Disk Utility, highlighting the physical drive and choosing the Partition tab. Then change the partition layout to anything other than Current. The Options button below that will then be active and you can then finally change the drive map from whatever it is now to GUID.
Note that since you must repartition the drive, you WILL lose everything on all partitions. So you MUST back up everything FIRST to another drive. This can be a clone to another physical drive, internal or external. When you clone it back after repartitioning, the drive map does not change.
To check your current drive layout, open Disk Utility and click on the physical drive you want to install Mavericks on. Example:
Then look at the lower right of Disk Utility's box. If you see anything other than GUID Partition Table, as shown below, then you must repartition the drive.
The other main problem is that you have to have another drive to boot to before you can change the one that needs to be repartitioned. Clone your current drive to another physical drive, not another partition on the same drive. Once the clone is complete, boot to that drive and you'll be able to repartition the drive you need to change.

  • FF67 problem, can't change statement date(statement saved but not post)

I need to change the statement date of a bankstatement. I did not post the statement yet.
I used a wrong statement date, and I want to change it, but I saved it after booking the second screen(the one with the
    statement items)
When I look by Manual Bank Statement Overview I see the bankstatement, but it has no Posting complete remark yet, because it has not been postefdofcourse.
The problem is I can't change the statement date, because when I try to Post then the systems gives an error because it does not accept the new statement date I want to use.
Is there a way to solve this problem? The statement has not been posted yet, so I suprised I can't change the statement date.
Anyway I hope somebody can help me out.

I had to post them first because otherwise it looks I could not delete the statement.
I saw no Id with only saving, that's why I post them. then the statement got an id.
What do I have to choose to make it possible to delete statements, not posted yet.
I guess I have to select something else because I did not see any Id to choose.
I do a manual input of the bankstatements (no import).
Whst's the best I can do now?  What do you mean with FI?
I guess I can do a manual booking on the three(send/receive and general) bankaccounts to get the right position of the accounts?
The bankstatements are ok(booked with ff67) only the three accounts I mention above have the wrong position.

  • Can't read/access data - RAID 1 slice

I am trying to migrate from my old PowerMac G4 running OS X 10.4.11 to my new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.4 by reading a mirror RAID slice from my old Mac that is mounted in an external drive enclosure and connected by FireWire.
The problem is that the new Mac cannot read the old Mac disk, it never shows up on the desktop, or comes up as available when trying to use Migration Assistant. Then, if I go into Disk Utility, the external RAID slice shows up briefly with a locked yellow padlock beside it, then I suddenly get the window shade of death, and have to hold down the power button to reset/restart my MacBook.
Why can my new computer not read my old computers disk, and how can I change permissions, or make the old drive readable by the new mac.
Regrettably I am away from the original Desktop, and cannot load the old drive back into it, connect the two machines and migrate that way. My only option for reaching my necessary data is to retrieve it off the drive I have with me.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

A bit of googling seems to suggest that a single drive from a mirror isn't directly readable - you need to "break" the mirror (while the array is still working), then each disk is readable as a normal drive.
Do you have both drives with you, or just one?
With just one drive, I guess that you would have to buy another drive and repair the mirror, like you would if one drive had failed. Not sure if that would work on a machine that didn't create the original mirror, though.

  • Unable to access data/storage space of failed primary partition after internet recovery

    Hello,
So just a bit of quick background info to the issue:  I experienced my first major failure with my iMac a few weeks ago (early Feb) where the main partition on my 3TB Fusion drive developed a corruption of some sort. I went through all the disk verification/repair procedures I could find, however nothing worked and I ended up with a grey screen on bootup that had a round logo with a slash through it. I tried a reinstall of OS X Yosemite from the recovery partition, however this failed part-way through, and I was forced to perform an internet recovery instead.
This worked, and I now have my iMAC stable again, however the recovery process created a new primary partition in addition to the old primary partition. This wasn't a major issue for me as I planned to recover some files from the failed partition that my backups had missed. Unfortunately since then, that old partition has disappeared and I can't get it back. I figure I have lost those files, but what is really annoying is the space that old partition took up has not freed up. My 3TB fusion drive is only letting me use 120GB of the space (the size of the new primary partition).
So I guess I have two questions:
1 - Is there a way to find and get the old partition back mounting again? The drives that list with a 'diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list' command are attached, but do not appear to contain the old partition that I am after (I've tried manually mounting them via the terminal to check).
2 - If recovering that old partition is not possible, how do I go about freeing up the space it occupied?
    System details:
    OS X Yosemite v10.10.2
    Mac (27-inch, Late 2012)
Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Any assistance on this one would be greatly appreciated - I can't restore all my files from backups as I am running low on HDD space.
    Cheers,
    Nick

    Hi Eric,
See attached screen shot - is that what you are after?
As you can see I don't have access to the rest of the 3TB fusion drive. I'm thinking I may have to do a clean OS install so I have prepared a Yosemite USB install key ready to go.
Unless you guys can suggest something that is.
Thanks in advance for your help,

  • Can't access data after name change of account in Time Capsule

I started using Time Capsule (TC). After transferring data to 3 different accounts. I noticed that the process of entering/ connecting to your account takes to much time. You have to connect every time to the account on TC. Because of this I changed the account names in the Airport Utility to shortened two lettre names. Unfortunately with great negative impact!
I cannot access any data anymore. The new accounts are empty although I can see that there is still data on my TC because the available disk has not changed.Changing accountnames looks like you are creating new ones and blocking the access to the old ones.
    1) How can I retrieve the data?
    2) Can you create a 'super account' which can access all data of all accounts?

    How do you reset?
    Hi..
What I wrote is my experience.. there is other opinions out there.
    See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2280
What I experienced was that applying user profiles over existing files resulted in nothing being visible.
But I am eggs spurt by self appointment only.. test everything.. hold to what is right.. reject the nonsense I will on occasion (unwittingly) spout.
To answer your questions.. press the reset button for 1sec will reset all user profiles to default. A longer press and it will get rid of them completely.. You will go back to default settings.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
The no user profile option is device password.. or disk password.. when you press reset it will return to device password.. that is the default.
Try what the reference above suggests.. but in my experience you cannot apply user profiles after copying material and still access it.

One of the folders on my external hard drive has transformed into a unix executable file and I can no longer access my files. Is there any way to save the data?

Wow, have seen Files do that, but a whole Folder as I recall!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Sorry, but unless I misunderstand what you're asking, you can't. Purchases from the iTunes Store are permanently tied to the Apple ID through which they were purchased. If your parents want you to be completely independent of their Apple ID and iTunes Store account, you'll each have to re-purchase the apps, etc. Otherwise they'll have to continue to allow you access to their account, or will have to do all the updates for you.
