Can a router have 2 networks?
I have 1 router. Initially I created an unsecure network named "Linksys" which I think is the default name. Then I created a secure network "SN". My wireless card detects both networks. How can I determine if the unsecure "Linksys" is on my router (or on someone else's) and if it's mine delete it? Thanks!
Which router? Check the label for exact model and version?
I think most normal linksys routers are only able use a single SSID which you configure in the web interface http://192.168.1.1/ If you have changed the SSID in the web interface and your wireless card detects the SSID the other "linksys" SSID is probably your neighbor.
You can also use a tool like net stumbler (http://www.netstumbler.com/) to search for ssids in your neighborhood. Netstumbler also lists the MAC address of the routers & APs it finds. Compare the MAC address with the MAC address printed on your router or shown on the Status - Wireless tab of your router.
You should secure your network with WPA or WPA2 and a strong passphrase. Anything else it not really secure.

Can connect to wireless network run off dell router, but not internet!
I have a iBookG4 and have moved to a new apt with a wireless network run off a dell router/ comcast. My roommates have both Macs and PCs and can connect with no problems. I found the network on my airport and put in the password, joined network no problem, but cannot connect to the internet. The Airport status is yellow and says that Airport has self assigned IP address and cannot connect to the internet. I can connect fine to other open networks in the area so its not my computer. I tried to copy the IP address from my roommate manually to the network settings but that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong? No one here seems to recall how they set up the network and I am paying for a network I can't access. Please help!!!
Does the dell router have an access list set-up?
With an access list (depending on the router) it can be set-up to allow access for only certain MAC addresses. If your MAC address isn't in the list, you'll not get on.
Usually the router will have an IP address itself of 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 - depends on the router. You should be able to determine it from the IP address your computers are getting. Try getting someone to connect to this through a browser, and check/change the configuration of the router directly.

Can't see a network (Netgear router) I know exists
I've in the process of relocating and am in temporary accomodation without broadband, but have been lucky enough to get to know my neighbour who is running a wireless network next door on a Netgear router (not sure which model) and has offerred to let me connect via that.
However, now that I'm home and trying to do so I can't see the network. I'd guess that the router is only about 50 feet away through a couple of walls, so I wouldn't have thought that would be a problem. There is also supposed to be another wireless network running in the building, but I can not see that one either.
Before I moved I used a Netgear DG834G wireless router myself with my Airport Extreme-enabled Pwerbook, and I can't remember having trouble seeing the netwrok when setting that up (though it was a couple of years ago so memory may be fuzzy).
Does anyone know how I can scan for non-Airport Base Station networks?
Or do I just need to go back to my neighbour and get the IP Address to configure manually?If your neighbor's wireless router isn't visible to your Mac, getting and IP address and configuring manually won't get you connected. Two things I suggest you do:
1. verify with your neighbor that his router is not configured with "SSID broadcast disabled", thus rendering his router invisible
2. see if your Powerbook gets a signal when located in your neighbor's apartment. Fifty feet and a couple of wall could indeed be beyond usable range. -

In the settings, be sure the Channel your router works on is Different than the other.
Be sure the Security is set, so you login to the correct router with password.
Have the computer remember the home wireless router of your choice. Not just any.
Be sure your router in top in the list of connection sources for your computer.

I have a Netgear wndr3400 and I can "join a wireless network" but can not "extend a wireless network" on my Airport express. Does anyone know why?
Sorry, but "Extend a wireless network" is a proprietary Apple setting that will only work if you have another Apple router.
It is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers. -
I updated my 4S phone to IOS 7.1.2 and lost my wi-fi. The wi-fi is on, but can't find ANY networks. I have been through all the steps, from turning the phone on and off, resetting the network settings, resetting the whole phone, redownloading 7.1.2 and lastly going to the Apple store for help. They tried all the exact same steps I did, took the phone apart and looked at and said it is in "pristine" condition. They have no idea why it isn't working, but they could offer to sell me another phone. This is extremely annoying! They claim it has nothing to do with the update to 7.1.2, but that is when I lost the wi-fi, so it has to be related!
My 4s i-phone which is 2 years old cannot find any wi-fi networks not even my home network... I had the same problem two months ago but i turned off the i-phone for 8 hours and then it was okay... Now it happened again.... I tried to restart the modem but whilst my laptop is connected regularly, my phone still cannot find any wi-fi networks... I restart the i-phone, i reset it, i chose reset network settings, reset all settings, i turned it off for a whole day in case it was overloaded, i turned on the airplane mode and turned it off again, i put it into the freezer for 10 minutes within a zipped bag but 3 days now and i still cannot be connected to my home wifi... I went to the technician today and he told me that it means that wi-fi is broken and that i need to change it with a charge of 70 euro but i have to give my phone for 10 working days so as to be fixed... I am so frustrated and i don't know if i want to give 70 euro for wifi since i don't know if it would make the same problems again...

Have a t-mobile account. Can't connect to network in France.
Nokia Lumia 820. Connected OK for 14 hr after crossing channel but unable to since. Sim works fine still in someone else's phone. Tried tweeting for help but no reply from EE after 16 hr. Phoned 150 on someone else's phone and waited 20 min before spoke to someone then put on hold and cut off. Didn't make any changes to phone before stopped connecting, in fact was driving at the time. Can search and find networks but not connect to any. Have tried everything can think of or find on net including full factory reset. Can access wifi but no mobile network. Any help appreciated.
Supposed to and was connected for first 14 hrs approx after arriving in France. Have phoned support again though on a relative's phone and they checked and discovered voice and data roaming got switched off somehow. They couldn't explain why and nothing to do with me because was driving for 9 hrs and not handling phone at all when it happened. Told me they'd switched it back on but could take up to 24 hr to activate so just waiting to see now.

Extend Wireless Network using a Telstra technicolor Gateway wireless Router to Airpot extreme but Airport will only except "join a wireless network (which it does) not "extend a wireless network" (Led turns yellow and I can not get a network working on the Airpor Extreme ethernet ports but can ping Airport extreme from Technicolor Router.
Airport gets it address DHCP.Funny how I can ping the Extreme but the Hard Ethernet ports dont seem to work correctly.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "Join" a wireless network, the Ethernet ports are not enabled.
Oddly, the AirPort Express has a special feature that will allow it to to "Join" virtually any wireless network.....and the Ethernet port can be enabled. So, an Express would work for your purpose to provide an Ethernet connection to the media player. This assumes that the Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main router.
Note that the Express will not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "Joins". -

Apple's "extend a wireless network" works just like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main hub is either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express is at the end of a spoke. You can add more devices at the ends of other spokes, but these devices will communicate directly to the hub, not to another device at the end of a spoke.
Apple does offer an option which is is known as a "static WDS", which can consist of a "main", "relay" and "remote" device. The problem here is that this type of setup has two huge drawbacks:
1) All of your faster "n" devices will drop down to much slower "g" speeds
2) The bandwidth or speed capability on the network will drop down to only 25% of the original bandwidth with a "main", "relay" and "remote" on the network.
Don't think you want this on your network. Your best option is to connect the new AirPort Express to the "hub" using an ethernet connection. If you can't run the ethernet cable, take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home. -

IPod Touch suddenly no longer can connect to Wireless Network.
Hello, I have yet to find an answer to my problem so maybe you guys can help.
I have had my iTouch for at least 2 years and have never had a problem with it, and constantly used it to connect to the wireless network in our home.
However, starting two days ago, my iTouch can rarely detect the network (even when right next to the router) and if it does, it is unable to join because it loses the signal almost immediately. After much troubleshooting, (laptops connect fine, friends iTouch's connect fine) I have determined that something is wrong with mine.
The only thing I can think of that happened that day, was that night it had gotten extremely cold. (Montana, oh yay.) Could this have caused the malfunction?
Any insight would be appreciated!Given that it got really cold and you brought it inside, condensation could have formed on the inside bits. Dump it in a bag of rice or a jar with those silica gel packages for a couple of days and see what happens.
If you still have problems connecting, try power cycling your router and resetting your touch's network settings.
