Can a Shape be "Re-Shaped"?

...as in: not just making the object Editable, but selecting a given shape (a circle, let's say) and simply changing it into some OTHER shape, like a rounded rectangle, a talk bubble, or whatever -- but with the new shape taking on whatever formatting (fill, stroke, color, shadow, etc.) was applied to the original?
So far I've always ended up having to generate a brand new shape, after which I copy the original's attributes onto it, delete the original, and then drag the new shape into the original one's position and resize it as needed.
It would be a lot easier if I could just say: Mr. Oval, welcome to your new life as Ms. Polygon. Is there some obvious way to do that I'm just not seeing?
Thanks,
John B.

Hi Adam --
Thanks for the reply, but I think there's still some confusion as to what exactly it is I'm trying to do.
What I'm NOT wanting to do is to select a Shape object, choose "Make Editable", and then manipulate the various handles which appear.
What I DO want to do (and I'll use the above Star Shape as an example), is to select that Star shape -- onto which I've probably applied all kinds of formatting (fill type, stroke type, shadow, etc. etc.) -- and then go to one of those lists of Shapes (either the icons or the text descriptions), select one (a Circle, let's say) and instead of having Pages then insert a whole new default Circle shape somewhere in my document, just have the currently selected Star TURN INTO a Circle, but with all of its formatting attributes (fill, stroke, shadow, etc.) on the same settings as those I applied to the Star.
So I'm not looking to somehow make a given shape more "Editable", I'm just looking for a way to quickly turn a given shape into another, DIFFERENT shape (but one that still retains all the formatting attributes I've already applied to the original shape).
Does this make sense? And more importantly, can it be done -- or is Pages currently set up so that a given shape, no matter how much custom editing is done to it, is ALWAYS based on that same original basic shape? In other words, are shapes, once inserted, capable of being infinitely edited and infinitely formatted, even capable of being deleted, but NOT capable of simply being changed into a different shape?
Thanks,
John B.

  • Can a shape be grouped with an object?

Is there any way to group a shape such as a line with arrowhead to an object? The intent is that the line overlay the object and point to a particular part of the object and that both should move with the text without the relationship between them being altered. I can place the two appropriately in the first instance but seem unable to select both at once or to group them to prevent the relationship being lost when the text moves.

I'm glad you got it figured out & shared the solution. It will help others who come along. That didn't dawn on me at the time. It doesn't work to have one move with text & the other fixed on page as they are in different layers in the document.

  • Can I use a T-shaped connector with my MacBook Air 1st generation?

My charger recently stopped working and I was able to get a quick replacement. However, it's one of the old models of chargers with the T-shaped connector. WIll it still work with my MacBook Air. I know it's slanted downwards so that might pose a problem. Any answers or advice?

The Magsafe 1 connectors can be used both the T and the L.
The new Magsafe 2 connectors can't because they don't fit.

I'm wanting to automatically count items of similar shape and color in an image . The items are the round ends of wooden dowels in a stack . Each dowel is 2 1/4 inches in diameter . There could be 1400 of these in a stack .it is very time consuming to count manually

PS can't and, as far as i know, there's no plug in... but strangely enough i believe there is a website where you can post an image and it'll return the font or at least a close approximation... do a Google search and check...

  • Can I use a "T" shaped charger?

The charger to my A1370 MacBook Air just recently frayed out.  I'm a bit catious of buying another "L" shaped one, so I'm wondering if a "T" shaped one would be a good subsitute and which model of it to buy.

First of all, you said "all the air models, except for the newest released a couple of weeks ago, use the MagSafe adapters, not the MagSafe 2."  That is incorrect, as shown here:
MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) - Technical Specifications
This spec shows that last year's MacBook Air also used the MagSafe 2.
Anyway, that's not important for the OP's question.  What is important is that the new MagSafe 2 ("T" shaped) charger cannot be used with your MacBook Air that had a MagSafe ("L" shaped) charger.
Apple has documented that in this page:

  • Can a Shape act as a selection tool?

Hello everyone                                                                                            Level: (Still a ...) Newbie  OS: Windows 7 64bit   Ps CS6
So, I am trying to make a fork (lemme tell ya, get;n those dang prongs are a B**** to get just right)
I want to use the Burn and Dodge tools to create Shading and Highlights
However, I need a Rounded shape selection for the ... uhhh "grooves" between the prongs in order to dodge and burn percisely
To my dismay the Marquee tools don't have a Rounded Rectangle nor could I find a way to set the corner radius of the Marquee Rectangle
The Lasso doesn't allow me to create what I need and even if I could use it to make it just right I couldn't make it exactly the same three different times.
    Any suggestions/ideas are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  • How can I shape tween crossing objects?

I want to shape tween multiple objects on the same layer.  When they are placed independently from each other all the time on the canvas, I have no problem to make them morph into the other shapes in the ending keyframe.
However, when some of the objects are crossing each other in either the starting or ending keyframe, they don't morph smoothly but quite funnily. Funny phases are nested between the intended starting and ending tages.
See the images below. What should I do to prevent this?
    Intended starting stage
    Funny interpolation
    Intended ending stage

I believe you're only option is to tween each shape on a separate layer.

  • I Can't Make My Own Shaped Drop Zone/Button ?

I have tried to follow the DVDSP Manual instructions on creating my own shape in Photoshop but I obviously don't understand them!
This is the drop zone I end up with ....
The white part is meant to be the shape (an island) of the zone without any black around it.
Also when I try to add a video to it, the video comes out completely rectangular, obliterating the customised shape of the zone.
Could anyone point me towards a tutorial with easy to understand instructions?

    Dead simple!

    Hello Expert,
I have ASA5510. It's include security plus license.
I want to traffic shape to 200Mbps. But , I checked a CCO.
CCO said that  a shaping limit is 154400000.
"Enables traffic shaping, where the average rate argument sets
the average rate of traffic in bits per second over a given fixed
        time period, between 64000 and 154400000. "
    It's mean shaping limit 154400000 ?
    Can I shape to 200Mbps ?

  • I would like to downgrade to the older version of the Adobe Shape App Version 1.2.0. Can I please be provided with a link in order to download the older version?

I would like to be provided with a download for the older version of adobe shape 1.2.0 please!

If you've been backing up to your local iTunes library, check your APPS pane to see if you have an older version of Shape stored locally. If you do, you can delete Shape from your phone, connect your phone to your computer, and drag the older version from your iTunes library onto your device. That's what I did to go back to the older version, which produced shapes that work much better for my purposes.
Adobe, it seems like with the newest version of Shape, you made DRASTIC changes to the way the app processes images into shapes. Is there any way for us to opt for the older version of processing? Or to toggle between the two?

  • Can Oracle Spatial read shape files?

    Hi,
I need to read some shape files into Oracle spatial and was wondering how (or indeed if) there is a way of doing this. I don't know much about the shape files, except that they can be used with ARCView. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Steve,
    I've done this 4 ways:
    1. If you have ArcGIS 8.1, you can use ESRI's shp2sde which can create spatial tables containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects.
    2. If you have GeoMedia Pro 4.0, you can convert shape files to Oracle Spatial tables containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects either with a direct write or you can generate scripts.
    3. FME Universal Translator by Safe Software (www.safe.com) can translate shape files to Oracle Spatial tables containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects.
    4. Oracle's shp2sdo utility can also translate them, but there is added cleanup. You have to then migrate your table to 8.1.7.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why can't I print shapes in excel?

Why I can't print lines or shapes from the "drawing" icon in excel. I have 12", 1 GHz PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.3.9. Excel is Excel X for Mac. I can draw shapes and lines onto an excel spreadsheet but they will not print. I've tried saving as a .pdf but they don't appear there either. "Normal" excel data prints fine, but nothing from the "Drawing" toolbar. Print Preview shows the drawing data. Am I missing a preference or a config somewhere?
    wallyu

It could be a Panther update caused it.
If you've never updated then you have quite a few to install. 11.3.9 is the latest. Install the updates and see if that cures it. Check For Updates is in the Help menu of any of the Office apps.

  • Can you change the batteries in the older iMac remote control

I have the small white remote that came with my iMac in about 2003. Is their any information, like how to change the battery and/or how to pair it with newer iMac etc?

  • Basic Shapes - there were more in Cap 6 - where did they go?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to Captivate 8.  In Captivate 6 there were a lot of choices for smart shapes (the star shaped icon) including basic shapes, arrows, buttons, banners, Math.  My favorite shape was square box with an arrow to the side so I could include text and point to something at the same time.  Where did these options go?
I tried to copy the image from Cap 6 into Cap 8 and I get an error message that I can't import a shape from an earlier version.

Very frustrating change, indeed. The panel under the Big Button Shapes only provides one shape per 'category'. Once you have chosen a similar shape, in your case the Callout shape, you have first to draw a shape, then to move your mouse to the right, to the Properties panel, Style tab where you find the other shapes. Maybe you'll need some more clicks on the arrrows to find the right shape, but in your case you are lucky since this category has only 4 shapes.
This is not the only change in UI that causes a lot more work. Moreover the category 'Buttons' under the shapes, have lost their useful actions, only the representative shape of its category, the Return button has the correct action. But action will not change when you switch to another button shape in the Style tab.
