Can a structure be automatically resized to fit it's contents?

Using auto-grow, structures sometimes get way too big. Resizing them by hand is time consuming. Is there a way to cause a block to resize to fit it's contents?

well.. i guest you got to manually "shrink" it down. However, it (i.e. while loop) has ability to not to shrink till it overlap your code (are't you happy about it ).
last but not least, if LabVIEW has everything "Automated". Then, what are we (LVUs) gonna do???
Cheers!

• Can you make Illustrator automatically resize artwork to fit (new) artboard?

I've got an Illustrator storyboard document with 10-12 panels on each page. I need to create larger JPGs of each panel. I've been pasting each into a new document, scaling them up, and placing them so they're within the artboard correctly. Is there an easier way to have Illustrator just fit the artwork to the new artboard?

Can you post a visual of what you're trying to do?
Otherwise, off the top of my head I'd do this in the same illustrator file (or a copy). Just resize the artboard, then group all of the elements and scale them up by the same percentage. Use the same reference point for both the resize of the artboard and the scaling of the art and they should match right up.
Or, when you export to jpeg from Illustrator, increase the resolution to account for the larger dimensions you need.

• Can photos be automatically resized to fit slides?

I am importing photos to Keynote and even though 'Reduce placed images to fit on the slides' is checked in Keynote Preferenes the pictures do not downsample and I have to adjust each picture manually.  I'm working on a presentation with about two hundred photos so it's a bit annoying.  Can anyone help?

• My new version of Firefox (downloaded automatically) on my Mac displays long paragraphs in emails as a single line, so the end of the paragraph is off the screen. How can I make it automatically wrap to fit the screen?

Long paragraphs in incoming emails display as a single line, with the end of the paragraph running off the screen. I want to make it wrap automatically to fit the screen.

For the browser window, just drag it to the top left of the screen (click and hold on the top bar with the traffic lights to drag), then in the bottom right of the window you'll see a rectangle with diagonal hatching. Click and hold on that and drag the window to the size you want.
Clicking on the green dot at top left will expand the window to fit the screen, clicking it again will shrink it back to where it was (this doesn't work in Finder windows quite the same).
The menu bar size is set in the bowels of the OS, though there may be third-party applications which can alter it.
As it's size is relative to the screen resolution, you could try reducing the resolution in System Preferences > Displays to see if that would suit you better.

• Iframes and automatic resizing to fit content displayed.

Hi
Is it possible to display an iframe on your page with content inside that resizes and then have the iframe resize with it so you dont have to use scroll bars or make the page size really big.?

If the iframe page is hosted on your domain, yes, there is a jQuery plugin for this.
http://github.com/house9/jquery-iframe-auto-height
If the iframe page is hosted externally, it won't work.

• Automatically resize JTable to show entire contents of every cell

Is there a way to automatically set the preferred size of a JTable, or its columns, such that the entire contents of all table cells are displayed? Setting the preferred widths of TableColumns myself isn't a great idea, because (a) the column's preferred width will change depending on what font the user is using, and (b) it can waste a lot of space if e.g., a column's values can theoretically be 1024 characters long but the only entries in that column currently are, say, less than 32 characters long.
thanks for any help

fantastic, it works beautifully. Thanks!

• Div Background Image...Resize To Fit Browser Window...???

hello again...
I would like to have a background image (.jpg) automatically resize to fit any browser's window...& I read somewhere on the web it should be accomplished by placing the image in a layer (as a background image); & then set the layer size to 100%.
can someone please tell me how the coding goes for this...?
[or...if that is in fact the correct approach?  I don't care if it's html or css...I just want it to work.  (&...I'm starting off w/ a larger image (so resolution doesn't get lost when going bigger)]
thanks very much,
mark4man
btw - I should add that it's the image's WIDTH I'm interested in resizing...while it's aspect ration remains in tact.

http://css-tricks.com/how-to-resizeable-background-image/
For the record, I'm not a big fan of huge background images on web pages. They take forever to load on slow connections.  And some mobile devices won't display them at all. So all that weight just for eye candy is kind of a waste IMO.
I think the safest, most practical way to achieve backgrounds that fill available viewport is to use a small, seemless tile and repeat horizontally, vertically or both.

• Movie that will automatically open in "fit to screen" view mode?

I'm wondering if it's possible to save a video in quicktime pro that will, when opened in any normal version of quicktime, automatically open in the "fit to screen" view option. In the visual settings tab of the movie properties, there is an option to automatically open into full screen, but this isn't what I want - I want it to open in the normal (non-fullscreen) quicktime window, but to automatically resize to fit the screen size of the computer it's being viewed on.
I'm pretty sure that there isn't any easy way to do this, but it's pretty important, so if it requires some scripting or something, that's fine - i'm not a programmer, but i'm willing to do whatever i need to, to make this work.
Thanks!

The "Presentation" option is a bit confusing as there are "user" settings that each viewer could have set (double size, Fit To Screen, etc) in the QuickTime preferences and all of them will play with the "on screen" controls feature of version 7. So "full screen" is different because of the dozens of display settings that may be used and the same for "fit to screen".
If you set the file dimensions too large for a small display setting the viewer will not be able to use the QuickTime controller (it could be "off screen).
I just checked all my AppleScripts and Automator actions and none include "fit to screen" options. No luck there.
If you set the movie dimensions (Visual Settings) to the "fit screen" size this would work on your display but maybe not on mine. To do that just open the Movie Info window with your file set to fit screen dimensions, note the size and adjust the file dimensions to those new values and "Save As".
Easiest method for your workflow would be to send instructions for viewing to the end users.
Keyboard shortcuts for QuickTime file display:
Command-0 (zero) = half size
Command-1 = normal size
Command-2 = double size
Command-3 = fit to screen
Command-F = full screen (presentation mode)

• Is there a way to automatically resize the text box to fit the text inside, without using the selection tool to resize the corners in Illustrator and Photoshop?

I'm wondering if there is a way where I can quickly resize a text box to fit exactly around the text inside, so pretty much the smallest the text box can go without being too small to fit the text? I know you can do this manually with the selection tool, but is there a button/command that automatically does this in one go?
Thanks

Try this script. Save the page as .jsx the the "Presets>Scripts" AI folder. When you restart AI it will appear in the "Scripts" menu. Select the text block and run the script.
Thanks to Nathaniel Vaughn KELSO for the script.

• Neither Automatically Resize nor Zoom to Fit working

Hello out there in Appleland,
Neither Automatically Resize nor Zoom to Fit is working in Preview 5.0.3 under Snow Leopard.  Zoom to Fit acts just like Actual Size or <Command> 0 and Automatically resize doesn't work at all.  This must be and bug, so please explain how this can be permanently fixed, even at the command line level.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Bob
Denver, CO

I've found out a little more about Preview and its bug through a process of elimination.
After examining Automatically Resize for Preview 3.0.9 on my old PowerBook G4 with OS 10.4.11, Preview 4.1 on my iMac with OS 10.5.8, and now Preview 5.0.3 on my MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8, I discovered they all work the same way.  When Automatically Resize is checked the image is only resized when the window is reduced but never when the window is enlarged to a size greater than the image's Actual Size, which is a worthless feature for smaller images.  I don't think this is the way it is supposed to work, but I may be wrong.
Where 5.0.3 differs from the other versions of Preview is in Zoom to Fit.  Under the View Menu, Zoom to Fit is grayed out unless the image stretches beyond the borders of the window (i.e. Automatically Resize toggled off).  In this case, the image will be reduced to the size of the window when Zoom to Fit is selected.  On the other hand, if the image is smaller than the size of the window, Zoom to Fit is not grayed out but neither does it enlarge the image to the size of the window when selected.  In other words, Zoom to Fit in 5.0.3 is only good for reducing an image to fill a smaller window but never for enlarging an image to fill a bigger window if that window is larger than the Actual Size of the image.
Perhaps the problem is with Preview 5.0.3 failing to access com.apple.Preview.ImageSizingPresets.plist since removing all the Preview plists and launching the application anew does not recreate this particular plist.  Also, the modified date on the original com.apple.Preview.ImageSizingPresets.plist never seems to change.
This is a damned annoying bug and should have been fixed when Snow Leopard was the standard.  In my opinion, the fact that this wasn't caught reveals Apple's slipping standards and a concentration on their growing market in mobile devices.  I feel I have a right to say this since I've been a loyal Mac user since the early 1980s.
For those who suggest I move to Lion or beyond, you can keep the economy going with your new software purchases.  For now, I'm going to continue using Rosetta and my old, third-party applications in Snow Leopard.

• Can an InDesign swf document automatically resize?

Hello,
Using InDesign CS4, I've created an interactive document and exported into a swf format.
The document size is 1024 x 768 px, but will not resize without cropping parts of the document. This means that the majority of users won't be able to use the document unless they have the same desktop size or larger than 1024 x 768.
I've tried changing the export options in InDesign to get the document to resize, and I've also tried exporting and changing settings in Flash which works but removes all of the interactivity.
From what I've read I don't think it is possible to do this from the Adobe suite.
Does anyone know if there any way this document can be displayed in a browser and automatically resize according to the users desktop resolution? This could be either via some functionality I haven't tried within the Adobe software or by using some software or code to imbed with the document on the webpage.
I can upload the document if needed.
Thanks for your help.

You can set the embedded swf to scale with the browser window (not fullscreen mode) via the HTML holder generated by ID. Set width and height to "100%" and scale to "showall"
Keep in mind that the browser window could be any size, so text might be be illegible in a small browser window or awkwardly oversized in a large window.

• How can I set the minimum size the location bar should automatically resize to

I have moved all of my navigation buttons, location bar and tabs to be in line. This has been done to maximise the available space on screen.
This works perfectly with two or three tabs open, but once more tabs are opened the location bar automatically shrinks to allow for more tabs and becomes unusable. I want to set the minimum size the location bar should shrink to but I do not know how to do this.

• Picture can not be resized to fit the screen, so i can only see half of my face when use it as wallpaper!! Suckss!!

picture can not be resized to fit the screen, so i can only see half of my face when use it as wallpaper!!  How can I change it??

There's a bug with the wallpaper. One thing that helps a bit, go to the photos app, find your pic, 'send' it to be wallpaper. You have a bit more control although not all the function you're used to.
No idea when or if Apple will fix it.

• How to get jpegs automatically resized when placed in a book?

Hello all,
New member on board here. Got a question for you guys.
When I pull a jpeg into a book page (I'm using the Library theme), I'm getting a "!" in a yellow triangle. I'm assuming that means the jpeg is too big.
Is there a way that iPhoto can automatically resize a jpeg to fit within the parameters of the picture space?

Thinkingman:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just the opposite, it means that the pixel dimensions of the photo are deemed too small for optimum image quality by iPhoto. What pixel dimensions are the photos and what size frame are you using it in?
iPhoto automatically resizes photos to fit the frames in books, and the containers in the other items, calendars, cards, etc.
