Can a T60 (with completely zero-ed hard disk) install a hard disk drive from a CD? Or floppy only?

Hi
Yikes - I am in deep trouble !
Following a virus attack, I have zero-ed my Thinkpad T60's hard disk (using KillDisk), but now when I try to install WindowsXP Pro from a CD, but although it can read the CD and does get so far... it says it cant read the hard disk !
I was hoping to install the correct driver (see below) but now I can't find my floppy disk drive for my T60.
Is it possible for DOS to read off a DVD or a CD?
I have tried to download a file which I am hoping is the correct driver
"Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit), Vista (32-bit) and XP (32-bit) - ThinkPad"
6iim10ww.exe
www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70477
But without a floppy drive I dont know how to get it into my T60!
Is it possible to put the data onto a CD or a DVD and read from there?
Cheers
Ship
P.S. My machine is a Lenovo/IMB Thinkpad T60 "2007-F4G" with a 74GB hard disk.

My iMac is from early 2009.  Should I have a new hard disk installed to prevent disk failure?

Having a good backup strategy is the best way to prevent data loss.
    see > http://www.macworld.com/article/1156643/how_i_back_up_frakes.html
That way if and when your internal hard disk ever does fail or you just what to upgrade your Mac to a larger hard drive, you have a good backup on a external hard drive to recover from.
Personally I use Carbon Copy Cloner and keep current bootable backups on several external hard drives. That way I can either boot up and run or restore from them in case something ever happens to my internal hard drive.

  • Z87-GD65 Can't install USB 3.0 Driver from MSI Site

I have windows 8.1 64bit and i can't install the usb 3.0 driver from the site. It says i do not meet the minimum requirements but after reading them i actually do. This board has so many problems with windows 8/8.1 i just might rollback to windows 7 to rid myself of the issues but shouldnt have to. Is there anything i might be missing?? drivers, software etc..

hmmm, sounds like windows 7 is the way to go with this board for stability. Looks like a future format is in order haha. I went to windows 8 for the boot time which is impressive over 7 but other then that...i hate it haha. Might format the old beast tonight and see what breaks next

  • Can I update with a CAB file after I installed BizTalk ?

Can I update my base configuration of BizTalk with a cab file after everthing is installed and configured ?
I missed installing it while I was installing BizTalk for the first time, now I want to update it with a CAB file. Is that possible ?

    Hi,
BizTalk Server relies on different products and technologies to provide essential services and features. CAB file contains softwares that are required by BizTalk server to
    successfully install on your computer.
You can select the cab file based on the edition and server you working with. Link below:
    Redistributable CAB Files
Now coming to your question, as I have mentioned above the CAB file contains the
    prerequisites
required for successful installation of BizTalk. While installing BizTalk on Redistributable
    prerequisites
screen you must have either manually or automatically installed the CAB file already.
If you have already successfully installed and configured BizTalk, I dont see any issue with the CAB file.
I don't buy that 90% consumption of the CPU is due to bad or wrong CAB file selected while installing BizTalk.
I would advise you to go through the below link:

  • How to Back Up a Hard Drive from Recovery Mode when Disk Can't Boot

I have a mid-2009 MBP that is experiencing problems booting. I was trying to repair my disk because I was experiencing problems with my finder and spotlight not returning any results upon my requests. I read some support discussions that indicated it might have been because my preferences/plist files had been corrupted. I deleted the files and they regenerated but then my computer froze and so I rebooted it.
My actual back-up for my hard drive is back in the u.s. (I'm currently doing field work in Brazil) but I have acquired another external hard drive to use for either booting or backing up my computer. I would normally just return my computer to a prevoius Time Machine backup, but I have valuable work from the last week that is not backed up I need to recover that my Time Machine does not include.
I tried resetting my pram and starting the computer to the command line interface and doing the fsck, but neither worked; my disk could not be repaired because of an incorrect node structure, and it exited with signal 8.
Is there a way to access migration assist or to copy my user files beyond the core to my hard drive in recovery mode or otherwise?

Just turn off your wireless router until you can run Time Machine to backup your Mac notebook.
Or remove the drive from the system and connect it to another Mac and copy all your files off it. But again it would be best to disable any and all Wifi systems in your house before you do that.
Not sure but there may be a way to turn off the Wipe command and or it is only issued once. Never had to use it so I'm uncertain on how it actually works.

  • Downloaded the latest software ios6 on my ipod. when i plug it into my computer itunes tells me ipod is in recovery mode you must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes, how do i fix this?

ok, so i finally found my ipod. I pick it up and it asks me if i would like to download the latest ios6 software so i did. Then moments later it died, ran out of battery. So i pluged it into my computer via apple usb cord. Then this is what itunes says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes". All i want is to get my notes from the utilites section there so important to
If i restore it will my notes still be there, i dont want to restore original settings or something like that .
please help me what do i do?

You have to restore the iPod, no ifs, ands, or buts...
After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod....

  • Can not Print with HP LaserJet 5000 and Epson AcuLaser C9100

I am using MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 with Mac OS X (10.6.6)
I already install the latest print driver from the Apple Software Update website.
The driver for HP is Ver. 17.5 & for Epson is Ver. 5.2
I connect two of the printer to my Belkin Surf N300 wireless N Router with ethernet cable.
The error when print to HP LaserJet 5000 is as follow:-
Unable to get printer status (Not Implemented)!
Network host 'x.x.x.x' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds...
This error can stay forever if I do not delete the print job
The error when print to Epson AcuLaser C9100 is as follow:-
    Printer not responding
This error can stay forever if I do not delete the print job
Previously I can print with my emac with OS X 10.4.10, but now I can not print with 2 of my printer.
My 2 printer are in good condition, so this is not the printer problem.
Please, do anyone know how to fix this problem fast, because I need to use this two printer for my business.
    Thanks in advance.

That is not what Greg needs to know. That is just the way that the IP addresses are assigned to the printers.
Your problem is probably that the printers were probably originally found by AppleTalk. AppleTalk is not included in Snow Leopard. If the printers support Bonjour, they should be found that way. Otherwise, you have to use other methods.
How did you add your printers on the new computer? If you delete them from Print & Fax, how would you add them again?

  • How can I communicate with other applications from my Java application?

    Hello,
I need help about how can i communicate with other application(say textpad.exe/wordpad.exe/MS word.exe) from my Java program.
More precisely, I need to know how i can get the current position of the cursor whether it is in any .txt/.doc files, then I may write some text in my java application and click a button and then my program will append the line(string) in that position of the file which is running under another appliction(Notepade.exe/MSword.exe).
    Please provide me some help.

I may be wrong (and anyone, please correct me if so), but Java may not be the best tool for something such as this. I envision that you'd have to make some OS calls such as calls to the user32.dll, and while this can be done through the JNI, you'd still have to have a C or C++ program doing the dirty work.

  • Can't backup with Time Machine: "sparsebundle is already in use"

Can't backup with Time Machine suddenly. Message says "back up disk image ...'/Volume/... /myMacname.sparsebundle' is already in use".
I have no idea what this means. Can someone please help? Please note that I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.
    Thanks.

Been having the same problem on mountain lion
Most forums say you must disconnect the users in AirPort Utility, but v6.1 no longer has this feature
So simply open “Finder” on the left under “Devices” you should see your “Time Capsule”. If not then it should be under “Shared”. Click on it and then select “Disconnect”. Then simply reconnect and that should be it
You can also restart the Time Capsule just by using Airport Utility.
Open Airport Utility and select the Time Capsule. Then up on the top bar select Base Station and click on Restart
Mine is now all working again

  • X10.4 wont recognize external FW with X10.3 installed as startup disk

I have a G5 double processor and need to run my AVID Xpress software, which requires X10.3 to run.
i have bought an external firewire drive and installed x10.3 on a partition, but my G5 does not show it as a choice when I open system preferences and click on startup disk.
Anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks. This is kinda urgent, so any replies are greatly appreciated.

Searching Avid Xpress on http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ , I find that Xpress Pro is the only version of Xpress that has been updated since Tiger's release. It says it works with 10.4 PowerPC which means it should work on any G5 that could install 10.4.6 or 10.4.7:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19024
Versiontracker's listing is a little old. They do have a version 5.7.5 also which works with 10.4.10 and both Intel and PowerPC Macs:
    http://www.avid.com/products/xpresspro/specs.asp
As you'll notice a Leopard compatible release is planned.
Time Machine will recover any system that is stored in its recovery disc but you need a 10.5 installer disc to recover from it and a Mac that can install 10.5 (867 Mhz G4 or newer). If your G3 Powerbook has Firewire, it may be able to backup the Powerbook if it is mounted as a Target Disk Mode hard drive to another machine putting the Powerbook into Target Mode by booting it with the T key held down:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
I'd post a question on the Time Machine forum to verify this is possible with pre-10.5 machines.
Some G5s do allow you to install 10.3. See this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
Though you should use the 10.3 installer disc that shipped with the said G5, and not the one installed on an external drive from a G3.

  • Can I install Readar on D: drive instead of C: ?

Trying to clean out C: drive, but can't seem to get Reader 8.1 to install anywhere but C: drive. My prior Reader 7 was installed on D:, but I don't get the option to choose destination folder when installing 8. Anyone know a way around this?

You need room on C. Even if you could move the entry under Program
Files that's only a small part of the disk space requirement.

  • I have replaced my old hard drive with a new SSD drive. Can I restore a complete Time Machine backup

I have replaced my old hard drive on a MacBook Pro midyear 2010 with a new SSD drive. I have a complete system backup of my old drive in an external hard drive using Time Machine.
Questions that I would like to get answered.
    1) Can I connect my external hard drive to the macbook pro and use that to boot up my machine by pressing and holding down the Options key? Once booted up successfully, can I use Disk Utility to format the new SSD and then restore the complete time machine backup?
    2) If that is not possible, can I use my old drive which I can connect using a USB adapter and use that to boot up by following the same strategy as listed in Step#1 above?
    3) If neither options are possible, do I need to use a bootable USB drive for Mavericks OS X to boot up the machine,
I have Mavericks OS X ( 10.9.6) and I do not have a DVD of the OS.
    Any help is appreciated.

Let me first document the steps that did not work and then I will document the steps that worked.
    1) Replaced the hard drive with SSD.
    2) Connected the original hard drive using a USB adapter to the MacBook to make it behave like an external device.
    3) Powered on the machine and on hearing the chime pressed Command-R to start in recovery mode.
    4) Chose the Disk Utility option to erase and format the SSD. The format chosen was Mac OS Extended Journaled.
    5) Once the formatting was done, then clicked on the "Restore" tab in Disk Utility
    6) In the Source field, dragged my original hard drive from the left pane and placed it in the field
    7) On the destination field, choose the new SSD drive. Clicked on "Restore". Gave me a warning, accepted the warning and the restore was under way.
    8) I had 236 GB to restore so took 3.5 hours before it was done.
    9) Disconnected the external hard drive ( my original internal HDD), shut down the machine and powered on again.
    10) Heard the chime and after that it was a white screen with no Apple logo.
Was visibly upset and started thinking what my next move will be. Then tried these steps
    1) Again powered off the machine.
    2) Connected my internal HDD once more as an external drive
    3) Powered on and on hearing the chime, pressed Command-R as before
    4) Once the OS X utilities screen popped up, this time chose Install OS X
    5) Erased the contents of SSD once more and reformatted it using Mac OS Extended Journaled.
    6) Installed OS X by following the prompts.
    7) Once the OS was installed, I was presented with an option on how to transfer data to this new Mac
    8) Chose the option to move the data from my original HDD.
    9) Took another 3 hours to move the data.
    10) Removed the original HDD once the transfer was complete, powered down the machine and started it once more.
    11) Booted successfully and all my content is now accessible on the new SSD.
Moral of the story - It is the spirit that counts.

  • How can I do a complete Time Capsule backup on an external USB hard disc with the new AirPort utility V6?

How can I do a complete Time Capsule backup on an external USB hard disc with the new AirPort utility V6?
It was possible in the AirPort utility V5, but in the new V6 I can't find this option.

Download and use 5.6.. the other non-toy version of Apple's Airport Utilities.

  • How can we cut to zero writing on the OS SSD hard disk?

I am on Win 8.1. I would like to put every temp file writing on another hard disk than the OS SSD.
An automated application would be good for that, or an option for that.
I found two articles about that.
    1) http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-top-tips-maintain-performance-extend-life-ssd-si/
where it says: Use Firefox Memory (RAM) Cache
In Firefox, type about:config in address bar and hit Enter. Promise to be careful, then search and double-click browser.cache.disk.enable and set value to False. Right-click anywhere and select > New > Integer and set the Preference Name to disk.cache.memory.capacity with a value of 32768 for 32MB and 65536 for 64MB etc., depending on the size in MB you want to reserve for the browser cache. Restart Firefox for changes to come into effect.
I do not catch the logic of it and I want to not just pot a small amount of MB on the disk but zero, and put some MB to another disk. I did it.
Is it easy the cancel that modif by just deleting the newly created var and re enabling the cache?
The 2nd article about it was on your support forum:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1019042
But the procedure is not clear enough for me.
That is why a built in option would be better for addressing the reality of using SSDs for improving performance.
    Thanks
    Marc

But... if you want ZERO writes you need to move more than your cache folder. Firefox updates your settings (profile) folder as often as every 15 seconds as it maintains your session history (open and recently closed windows and tabs). So you would need to move your entire profile.
I've never done it and I'm not sure we can fully support it on this site, but on the community-driven mozillaZine site there is an article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder
Note that there may be permission issues with downloads, since Firefox uses the Windows Temp folder as an intermediary location. You might want to experiment with a new profile to make sure it works in the new location before moving your existing profile.
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > Run:
    firefox.exe -P
''Do not delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button. When you see the option to choose a non-default location, you can point Firefox to your spinning drive. To avoid data loss, never re-use an existing folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
Can you get down to zero use of the SSD? Any complications?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.
