Can a TestStand deployment built with XP run on a target machine running Windows7?

All,
I knew it would come to this eventually. My very reliable development machine is running Windows XP. I am now facing the situation of building a TestStand deployment to distribute to target machines that are running Windows7. I am trying to head off trouble and troubleshooting that may not be worth it. Will this work?
Thanks in advance for any information regarding this situation.
Troy

Hi Troy,
You shouldn't run into trouble, but you may want to be aware of the differences in directory paths.

  • TestStand Deployment problems with visarc issues

Recently I attempted to rebuild a TestStand Deployment that I had build just 1 month before and it wouldn't create the deployment.  Changes that occurred between the last build and this build was an upgrade to LV 8.6.1 from LV 8.6.
The issue was that the file visarc was not able to be found by the deployment engine and wouldn't progress much beyond the tsw file verification.  It turned out that having multiple versions of LV on my harddrive screwed up the linking on this file and caused the deployment to fail.
The following link solved the issue and allow the deployment to be built:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/833BFD5E9CA0224886257584004DAA4C
I don't really have a question, just wanted to get this out there so fewer people have to sustain the pain that I went through.

    Thanks for the input

  • I have followed the steps for running exe on target machine but camera streaming did not found yet.

    Install the following run-time engines:
LabVIEW Run-time Engine (same version that was used to develop the VI)
Vision Run-time Engine (same version that was used to develop the VI)
A single-seat Vision Deployment License is required for each target machine on which you install the Vision Run-time Engine. See Related Links for more details.
Copy the following DLLs from your development machine's System Directory, typically C:\Windows\system32, to your target machine's System Directory.
    ImaqDirectShowDll.dll
    ImaqDirectShowExport.dll
Register ImaqDirectShowExport.dll by selecting the Windows Start Menu and selecting Run.
Type in regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\ImaqDirectShowExport.dll and click OK to register the DLL.
If you are on a different OS or if the system directory is different and you want to copy the file path instead of typing the whole path, you can drag the file to the command line in the Run prompt, highlight the path, right-click and select Copy.
Paste in the command prompt window by right-clicking and selecting Paste.
The ImaqDirectShowDll does not have to be registered.
I have followed all above steps ,
Can any one help me for solution ?

My guess is that the driver is missing at the target system.
You can add the driver (part of Vision Acquisition Software) you need (IMAQ, IMAQdx, ..) under the Additional Installers Section of your Build Specification and you will also need a runtime license.

  • Can I submit apps built with Windows Phone 8.0 SDK or do all new apps have to be windows Phone 8.1

I thought this would be an easy question to google but I can't find a simple Yes or No.
My app uses some components that are not currently developed for windows phone 8.1 so I was going to build the app in the Windows Phone 8.0 SDK. But I know that other platforms stop you submitting apps in older SDK's, but what about Microsoft? Can I still
submit a brand new app built on the Windows Phone 8 SDK?

you can submit , I have submitted a new windows phone 8 app recently which will support on windows 8.1 phone also. In case of 8 the build will be .xap and in case of 8.1 it will  app.package . when you run your windows 8 app in 8.1 phone it will
internally convert xap to package and it runs as usually. I would suggest you to start developing in 8.1 apps which has lot more flavors added(ex: Geo fencing etc).

  • How can I read and work with the e-mail on one IMAC (running 10.7.3) from my MacPro Power PC5 (running 10.5.8)

I would like to be able to work the e-mails on my IMAC (Lion 10.7.3) from my Mac Pro Power PC5 (running Leopard 10.5.8).  I want to be able to see all the folders and have actions show up on the other computer.  In other words, if I delete the e-mail I want it to disappear in real time from the other computer.  The same would be for moving messages in and out of different folders.  Can this be done without setting a server?  If not, then what server version could I install on the MacPro that would let me do this?

That is the way IMAP should work.
Like gMail or iCloud, both of which can be setup on both Macs...
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

  • Can DW edit sites built with Frontpage extensions

I have to work on a site that was originally created by
someone who used frontpage and frontpage extensions. Im basically
just redesigning the layout our outer shell, and adding all the old
    data inside the design.
There are about 20-30 forms in this site that were created
    using frontpage extensions.
Is there a way I can edit the forms pages in DW without
messing up the forms or frontpage extensions?
Does DW offer any easy user interface to create forms like
    this FP extensions?

    > Ive heard that
    > conecting via FTP to a frontpage site could also mess up
    the coding, which
    > seems odd to me. ??
It doesn't, and couldn't, affect the coding. But it can
    'break' the tight
connection between the files on the site and the FP server
    extensions, which
would have the immediate effect of breaking the form
    processing.
If you must take this job then I think the only "SAFE" way to
    do it would be
to use Microsoft's ExpressionWeb product for the project. EW
    understands
how to keep the FP Server Extensions healthy, and can
    therefore use HTTP
transfers of files rather than FTP transfers.

  • How can I share my ical with other users on the same machine?

Having recently bought an imac I set up accounts for the family. I'd like to share a generic calendar with everyone that only the adults can read/write, but want to allow everyone to hold their personal calendars at the same time. All the accounts are on the same machine. Can this be done? If so how?

You can only do this by syncing your calendar to an external server - MobileMe is designed for this but if you don't already have a MobileMe account you can't start one now.
If you do have a MobileMe account the method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/sharedcalendar.html#publicshare
If you don't, you could sync to Google Calendar (Google accounts are free) or wait for iCloud which should be out in a couple of months and will probably provide this sort of facility.
You might like to consider BusyCal which is like iCal Pro - similar to iCal but with extra facilities. It can sync calendars on a Lan and also between accounts on the same machine (you have to have fast user switching enabled).
There is a free trial available on their website: it's slightly cheaper from the Mac App Store. (I have no connection with this company).

  • MOV files on Autorun Windows CD with or without Quicktime on Target Machine

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a family Quicktime MOV file of our trip to Mexico. Problem is they all have Windows PCs and I have no clue if they have Quicktime installed or not. A couple people are out of state so I can't help them install Quicktime (grandparents aren't up on how to install software).
I know how to make Autorun CDs for Windows, but how can I make it so it will play the MOV file guaranteed? I want to keep it MOV since it looks way better then the MPG or AVI or any other format I've tried.
Will Quicktime Alternative work? Will that run off a CD-R without doing the install process?

"Will Quicktime Alternative work? Will that run off a CD-R without doing the install process?"
    Nope.
The only way to make a .mov file play "guaranteed" on a Wintel box is to not distribute it as a .mov file (-: Use a "player agnostic" format like MPEG-1 instead.
That said, if you included the QT Win Standalone Installer on your CD and some brief instructions, your rellies could then install QT from the CD if they don't already have it or have an older version.

  • Apps built with AIR 3.4 release SDK for AppStore?

    Hello,
    Here's my question -
Can we publish apps built with AIR 3.4 release SDK to the Apple AppStore?
We need to use AIR 3.4 SDK as the AIR 3.3 SDK results in problems on iOS 6.
Also, was going through the AIR 3.4 SDK release notes ... Can you detail how do these affect iOS development -

  • Issues with labview on TestStand deployment system (wont run without a labview License)

I am trying to deploy a system using testStand to a deployment machine for the 1st time. I have built my installer and image files etc.The files install successfully on the target machine however when I try and run my program in TestStand operator mode I have getting errors relating to Labview. The only way I can get around these error is to activate a Labview License on the deployment machine, this is not viable.
The error I see when I disable my Labview License simply states an error occurred accessing the Labview ActiveX automation server.
I have included the run time engines etc in my installer. As this is my first build is there something obvious I have missed here??
    Thanks for any input.

    Solved!

    Vinny,
my first guess is that the setting for the LV adapter on the deployment machine is still configured for "LabVIEW Development Environment". You have to change this to "Runtime Engine".
    hope this helps,

  • How can I use the built-in Isight camera with an external camera (usb/firewire) at the same time?

How can I use the built-in Isight camera and an external video camera at the same time?
I'm wanting to stream over Oovoo/Skype/etc. using 2 cameras.
    Thanks

Simple question with a not so simple answer.
    (a) If you mean that you want to run multiple apps simultaneously using a different camera with each app, you may encounter computing power limitations.  Digital video is processor intensive.  The only way to know if your Mac can do this it to try it.  If the video does not work together but each app works when it it the only app running, you are likely overloading your Mac's ability to process and/or move all the required data in your data bus.  You can get a better indication of whether this is the case by watching your Activity Monitor utility while running the apps you want to use.
    (b) If you mean that you want to have more than one compatible camera connected to your Mac simultaneously for ease of changing between video sources, some, but not necessarily all, apps you are using to operate your camera(s) allow you to select between your cameras.
How you select among connected cameras depends on which application you are using. Here is how camera selection works in a few examples:
    (1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
If you cannot see the "Camera" choices bar, your Mac is recognizing only one (or none) of your cameras. In that case, consider the suggestions fromhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 for iSight problems or refer to your other camera's documentation for help.
This particular choices bar solution applies ONLY to iChat. Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
    (2) For instance, iMovie HD's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie6 HD uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I had no built-in iSight connected when I made this example, and because my external iSight was not connected, the drop-down menu showed only "Time Lapse." Because your Mac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight would show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting an additional Mac compatible webcam should allow you to choose either camera.
Other iMovie versions work slightly differently.
iMovie 9 (from iLife '11) uses a different camera choice button shown in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84285.html
iMovie 8 (from iLife '09) is slightly different as explained in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/10172.html
In general, you can use your Mac's help for the application in use to find out how to select among more than one connected camera.
    (3) Photo Booth in Snow Leopard 10.6.x and later uses the Photo Booth > Camera menu command to select which camera to use.
Note for readers with older Mac OS X: The previous version of Photo Booth that came with Tiger (10.4.x) is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless your built-in iSight is already occupied as the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use an external camera.
(If you have an external Firewire camera connected, it may be used in preference to any USB webcam. If that is a problem for you, merely disconnect the problem Firewire device.)
    (4) For FaceTime, launch the app and click the Video menu item.
If your Mac recognizes more than one connected compatible camera, a "Camera" section listing the cameras from which you can choose will appear there. Clicking on the desired camera name will let you select the one you want as shown in this image from my Mac Pro and LED Cinema Display:
If your Mac recognizes only one compatible camera, the "Camera" section will not appear in the Video menu, but FaceTime will automatically use the connected camera that is recognized by OS X.
    (5) I do not use Skype oir Oovoo.  For those or other apps, see Help for each app for info on how to select your desired camera.

  • Problem with deploying FPGA host VIs using TestStand deployment utility

I am using a PCI-7831R FPGA to control an automated test fixture.  I have several host VI's that I am calling from TestStand (4.2.1) in order to control the 7831R.  The host VI's that TestStand calls are setup as sub-VI's and are used for various things such as opening an FPGA reference (which is bound to a strict type def), downloading and executing the files on the 7831R, reading writing to controls, and finally closing the reference.  In the sequence file, I am passing the reference values as a file global so that the host sub-VI's can communicate correctly.  I have all functionality working correctly in TestStand on my development PC.  When I go to deploy this to a production PC, I get errors when the sequence file trys to load the first host VI.  The error basically states that the VI is broken - try to open and run it (which I can't because I have no development license on the production PC).  I am currently trying to deploy this to another development PC to see if I can track down where the VI might be breaking.
I have included the lvbitx and strict type def control that the host subVI's reference in my deployment files.  I can't think of anything that I might be missing.  Is there any good documentation on exactly which files I need to include in the deployment when using FPGA Host VIs (the TestStand reference manual is pretty vague at best)?  It seems that any documentation that I read says the TestStand deployment utility will analyze all VI dependencies (other than shared variables).  On a side question, is the strict type def considered a shared variable?
Has anyone successfully deployed a sequence that calls host VI's?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If any of the above needs further clarification please ask away and I will be happy to give more details.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi hawkstringer
Do you encounter this problem using a deployed version of your code? Note that the subject of this topic is about deploying an FPGA application.
I forgot I posted here, in the mean time I've managed to deploy my application. I think my problem was solved when I included all necessary drivers and components (but I'm not absolutely sure). I included the following:
    NI IVI Compliance Package
    NI FlexRIO
NI PXI Platform Services Configuration Support
    NI R Series Multifunction RIO
    NI DAQmx Core Runtime
    NI DAQmx MAX Configuration Support
    NI RIO
    Good luck!

  • Built application can't find DaqMX devices with VISA Find Resource VI

My application programmatically finds all of my PXI devices using the VISA Find Resources VI with the following regular expression:
    (PXI[0-9]*::?*INSTR){VI_ATTR_S:LOT >= 0}
This works with my built application on a PXI-8186 controller with LabVIEW installed, but when I created an installer to put it on another PXI-8186 controller without the LabVIEW development system, none of my DaqMX devices show up in my list of VISA resources.  They all show up in MAX, however.  I even tried creating a simple app that just has the routine which gets the resource list.  Ironically, the only PXI device that shows up in the list is a ZT1000PXI made by ZTEC Corp.  I also have a number of PXI-4437s and PXI-6120s in the chassis.  I tried setting the PXI option in MAX to report all PXI devices, not just registered ones, but that had no effect.
This is a Windows 2000 OS running on a PXI-8186, with DaqMX 8.5.0f3 and NI_VISA Runtime V4.1, and LabVIEW Runtime V8.2.1.
Does anyone have a clue why this isn't working? I've tried uninstallng and reinstalling NI-VISA Runtime, but it didn't matter.

    Hi wired,
As I understand it, you built an application in LabVIEW 8.2.1 on a PXI-8186 controller. When you moved to a new controller, one without LabVIEW 8.2.1, the program to find your PXI cards returns only a third party device and not your DAQ cards, despite the devices being visible in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). You have an Installer for your application that installs the runtime engines for VISA and LabVIEW and the DAQmx driver.  Is my understanding correct?
You mentioned that you had tried setting the PXI option in MAX to report all PXI devices, not just the registered ones. By this, did you mean that you set the VISA option to Show all devices accessible to VISA? If you did not mean this, then I would suggest doing so. In MAX, you can expand the Software tab in the Configuration Tree to the left. By selecting NI-VISA, the VISA options become visible. You should select show all devices accessible to VISA as seen in the attached screenshot.
If you did in fact select this option already, can I ask if you also enabled the NI-VISA tulip Passport? In order to do this, on the VISA Options page, under General Settings, if you select the Passports option a list of checked boxes appear. Select the Tulips option as seen in the second screenshot and then click the Save button at the top of the MAX window. You will then need to close LabVIEW or your application and restart it.
I built a simple program to test this post, and until I followed the above steps, the only devices that appeared were my com ports. After doing this I was able to all of my DAQ cards.
Could you clarify some things for me? When you said that the application works on a PXI-8186 controller with LabVIEW, was this the development machine or just a controller you tried the executable on and it worked? What is in your installer? Is the VISA version on the test controller the same as that on the development machine? And lastly, in MAX, do the DAQ cards appear under DAQmx devices or under PXI systems and can you communicate with them using a test panel?

  • Pdq deploy.. run deploy / installation with user admin & pass

Does the installation need to display windows for the end user to see? If so, the Logged On User is usually correct. If the installation requires Administrative rights AND you still to display information for the end user to see then choose Run As Deploy User (Interactive). It will install with the deploy user's credentials but can still display windows or other items attributed to an interactive installation.

    Hi,
how to set it to run the deploy / installation with user admin & password
even if the log on users does not have right security to run the installation

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.
