Can a Time-Capsule be formatted to NTFS for WIN7 Usage?
I am trying to get Win7 to work with a Time Capsule.
Model - A1355
Serial - 6F******ACD
It is my understanding that I need to format it with NTFS in order for it tow work. Official documentation stating yes or no would really help.
Anyone?
<Serial Number Edited by Host>
So in other words, I can't format it (Time Capsule) to NTFS. I've read about MacDrive and MacFuse. In your knowledge how should I go about in resolving the usage in between a Mac with Win7 and a 1TB Time Capsule.
Any help is appreciated.

I was recently given a brand new 3TB time capsule.
I would firstly like to partition the drive if possible ? to store films and some old photos etc
I would then like to create a private network for myself with access to the time machine back ups and the partition with my films and photos in
I Would then need to create a guest network for my house mates to use with access solely to the internet and none of my files. is this possible ?
Also, if this is not possible, would it then be possible to plug in an external hard drive to the time capsule (containing my films and old photos etc) and access these files wirelessly on my network ? but also stop my guests from accessing these files over their network ?I would firstly like to partition the drive if possible ?
It is possible in theory, but not easy in practice, and it will void the warranty on the Time Capsule if you attempt to do this. In general, you would need to open up the Time Capsule, remove the hard drive, place the hard drive in a separate enclosure or caddy, connect it directly to your Mac, and use Disk Utility to format the drive. Then, you would need to reinstall the drive back in the Time Capsule and hope that everything works.
Instead of partitioning, you might want to take a look at setting up one or more disk images on the Time Capsule using Disk Utility. This would allow you to reserve a certain amount of space for data and set up a password that users would need to type in before they could access the data inside the disk image.

The default setup of the Time Capsule will allow you to create a wireless network using a name and password that you want to use.

Whether or not this is possible will depend on the type of modem that you will be using with the Time Capsule. The Guest Network feature can be enabled if you will be using a simple modem with the Time Capsule. Something like this, for example:
However, the Guest Network feature was not designed to work correctly with a modem/router or gateway. Something like this, which is often furnished by Internet Service Providers to their customers:
See the difference? One is a simple modem that only provides an Internet connection to an outboard router, like the Time Capsule. The other device is a modem/router or gateway, which is really two products.....a modem and a router.....in one package. The Guest Network feature was not really designed to work with this type of product, so it may or may not work if you try to use it with this type of device. Getting to work will involve trying to bend the rules.
Also, if this is not possible, would it then be possible to plug in an external hard drive to the time capsule (containing my films and old photos etc) and access these files wirelessly on my network ? but also stop my guests from accessing these files over their network
Yes, this actually might the simplest way to accomplish what you want to do. Make sure that the drive is formatted correctly for Mac in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility and then use AirPort Utility to set up a password to access the drive. Only give the password to those who you want to have access to the drive. -
Can a time capsule store a movie from an external hard drive then allow that movie to be played on an iPad on the network?
I don't use ipad for this so i am just googling.
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/media-player-playerxtreme/id456584471?mt=8
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/oplayerhd-lite-best-free-video/id385896088?mt=8

Anything that will play from Samba network file store..
You will probably also need filebrowser loaded on the ipad to find the files.
Is the ipad necessary btw.. ?? If you only want to play the file to your TV you can buy a WD Live TV.. unlike the Apple TV it is a media player.. and can play files of almost any format direct from the TC. -

Yes, on XP, Vista and 7. Have not tried 8.
If so what software do I need to buy?
Genie Timeline Pro does a very nice job...and it is similar to Apple's Time Machine. It's not cheap though. Check with the Genie folks for more info and compatibility with Windows 8.

Can my time capsule 802.11n (4th gen) affect performance?
for several months i have been having trouble with what i think is excessive read/writing and a slowdown creating the dreaded beachballs. i especially have trouble when safari is open.
can my time capsule cause these symptoms? about a week ago i got a message that i was not connected to the internet even though i had just been using it. i called my isp (wow) thinking they were down. the rep said that they weren't having trouble, but he was getting a week signal from my router (time capsule).
in the last few days i have been experiencing beachball delays on my laptop, which uses my home wifi. i have not had trouble with my laptop before, only my intel imac.
when i run the airport utility, it tells me that my time capsule is ok.
is it possible that a failing time capsule is causing my problems? i bought the time capsule in early 2012.
here is my etrecheck report, if this helps.

thank you for your help.i'm writing to report. i downloaded the java update that a brody suggested. i ran fix disk permissions and then tried the internet. i started out using firefox and then chrome. they were nimble and responsive (sounds like a car review). then i tried safari. it was slowwwwwwwwwwww. no beachballs, now gray revolving circles. safari is /was so slow it often takes a while for a character i have typed to show up on the screen.
i have rerun etrecheck and the outdated javaapplet plugin message is still there as though i have not updated my imac.
i am going to remove some of the 3rd party software, but i'd like to be sure that i have accomplished what i needed to do re java.
does anyone have any other ideas about safari besides using another browser?
thank you.

Can the time capsule be used as both a time machine backup and NAS storage
Can the time capsule be used as both a time machine backup and NAS storage? I want to use the drive as external, wireless storage for all of my files so all my PCs, MACs and iOS devices can access the files. Plus, I want to use the drive for backing up my iMac via time machine. Can the time capsule device be used for both these purposes simultaneously? If not, are the other suggestions on how I can do this?
Can the time capsule device be used for both these purposes simultaneously?
It can, but is really not recommended. Sooner or later there will be a fight for space on the drive between Time Machine and the other files.
If you have plenty of free space on the drive, you can do this......but.....have you thought about how you will back up the "other" files that are stored on the Time Capsule? -
Can the Time Capsule be used just to back up on an existing wi-fi network?
Can the Time Capsule be used just to back up on an existing wi-fi network? We just set-up a new Xfinity wireless modem which is supposed to be very fast, but Time Capsule set-up instructions indicate we need to use the Time capsule as the primary internet connection. True?
My mistake. Meant to reply to snorris3. Text is repeated below:
Can I still use it as a back up device? My new modem is also the router.
Yes you can.
The best way (and really the only way) to set up the Time Capsule would be to connect an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to the Time Capsule.
The Time Capsule will produce a wireless network by default, but if you don't want to use that network, it is a simple matter to turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule and use it only as a hard drive for backups.
I would be very surprised if the Xfinity modem/router would even come close to the wireless performance of the Time Capsule, but that may be another discussion.
If you elect not to use the wireless on the Time Capsule, then you will be backing up over the existing wireless network that you already have.
That would be a shame, since a third to half of the total cost of the Time Capsule is tied up in the wireless router portion of the Time Capsule. If you want to use the existing Xfinity wireless network, you could save yourself quite a bit of money by simply connecting a USB or Firewire hard drive to your Mac for backups. But, it's your call. -
Can the time capsule be used as an external hard drive
Can the time capsule be used as an external hard drive
If you mean by usb to a computer no.. it is a network device only and has to be used via ethernet or wireless.
It can be used standalone,, ie not plugged into an existing network.. but there are some steps required to make it work if you want internet connection at the same time. It is generally much easier to have the TC bridged into the network. -

You can do this, but file transfers / copies will be very slow over wireless.

Can the time capsule 2TB be used as more memory
Can the time capsule 2TB be used as more memory or is it just for backing suff up?
Can you wirelss transfer video and music to your iPhone or iPad without using the computer? You can use Time Capsule as a 'simple' external harddisk, but keep in mind that the fastest connection with the TC is Ethernet which is slower than FireWire800 for example.
Currently iTunes and a USB-connection is needed for syncing an iPad or iPhone.
With the "PC Free" feature of the yet to be released iOS 5 (this fall...) this might not be needed anymore.

Can two Times Capsules work as Raid1?
Can two Time Capsules work as Raid 1 (copy the same content to each Time Capsule) so that if one TC fails the other works.
Bob,
Thank you very much for the information.
My plan is to buy two TCs and install iTunes on them to save space on my laptop's SSD.
As I read Isaw that putting photos on TC is not reccomended due to the possibility of the failure of the HD.
I think two TCs will help on that.
I hope Apple will make a more secure TC (with two HDs in raid 1 mode).
Best

How can a company sell a Times Capsule appliance as a solution for backup and die for this manufacturing fault? And with that Apple? nothing, or technical assistance in Brasil. Of a sledgehammer, open the device and attempt to recover your files by force!???
Heat up the bottom rubber mat with a hairdryer for 5-10 minutes to loosen the adhesive, then pull the rubber mat away from the bottom metal plate carefully.
Then use a screwdriver to remove the 10-12 screws to open up the case. -
I was just wondering if I can use time capsule with my iphone for both back up and to access the hard drive on the capsule?
I don't think backup is supported but you may be able to access the TC's internal drive, from the iPhone, with an application like: NetPortal
Note: I haven't actually tried this app, so if someone else has and was successful in accessing the TC's drive they can certainly chime in.
Follow-up. Just downloaded and installed this app ... and I can now verify that it, indeed, can access both my TC's internal and externally attached USB HDD.
