Can Adapter Allow Import of Bookmarks?

Can the NewerTech U3NVSPATA Universal Drive Adapter USB allow one to import bookmarks and e-mails from the attached hard drives (that are connected to the above mentioned drive adapter) to the main hard drive in a quicksilver 2002 Mac?
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/U3NVSPATA/

Yes. Once the adapter's connected, the attached drive can be used as if it was a regular USB drive; the files containing the bookmarks and emails need to be separately moved.

  • How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox?

How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox? I have exported the Firefox bookmarks from my old PC into a [Windows 8] folder on my new PC.
When I use the Firefox import facility, it will only import one bookmark at a time - and then it bookmarks all the main pages on the bookmarked website, not just the one which I originally bookmarked. It also does not import the information stored in the bookmark tag.

    Sure thing.
    # Open the run dialog by holding the Windows key and pressing R
    # Type <code>%appdata%</code> into the run window and press ok
    # Open the ''Mozilla'' folder
    # Open the ''Firefox'' folder
    # Open the ''Profiles'' folder
    # Copy the folder that is located in this folder to a USB drive
    # Install and run Firefox on the new computer
    # Close Firefox
    # Repeat steps 1 to 5 on the new computer
    # Open the folder that you copied from the old computer
    # Copy the contents of that folder into the folder located inside of the new computer's profile folder
    # Allow Windows to replace any duplicate folders with the ones that you are copying onto the computer is prompted

How do I save and import my bookmarks from another hard drive? When I try to open the installed Firefox on the old drive, it (obviously) opens a browser from the new main drive, free of bookmarks. Is there a way I can save the bookmarks on the old drive without opening a browser?
The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.

"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.

  • I would like to import my bookmarks from safari. Can I do this?

How do I import my bookmarks from Safari to Firefox?

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks#From_Safari
    Exporting bookmarks from Safari
Go to File->Export Bookmarks. Safari saves your bookmarks in an HTML file. Save the HTML file to the Desktop or any other location of your choice.
    Importing bookmarks to Firefox
Go to Bookmarks->Show all bookmarks. This will open up the Bookmarks Library.
    Click Import and Backup...
Select Import Bookmarks from HTML.. from drop down menu.
Locate your HTML file exported from Safari.
You can use Safari Bookmark Exporter to export bookmarks to a simple HTML file, if exporting to an HTML file is not supported by Safari.

  • Recently reformatted PC. Tried to import HTML bookmarks, but nothing happens. Tried other browsers, still does not work. How can I fix this?

Before reformatting my PC, I exported all my bookmarks via HTML file. I reformatted, installed Firefox, then tried to proceed with importing all my bookmarks. I go to the import function and choose the HTML bookmarks file and nothing happens at all. I tried using other browsers to import, but nothing happens. I am not sure how to fix this.
I thought maybe I could transfer the HTML file into a JSON file, but I couldn't find a way to do so, even after renaming the file extensions. Could the HTML file be possibly be corrupted? I'm out of ideas on how to import my bookmarks!
I really need to fix this, please help!

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension:
    * .html for a HTML backup
    * .json for a JSON backup
You can check the type via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.
    A JSON backup starts with: <b><nowiki>{"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":</nowiki></b><br />
An HTML backup starts with: <b><nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki></b>
Add quotes ("") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension if the current file extension is hidden or if it is otherwise not working.<br />
Verify the file type in the Properties via the right-click context menu to make sure that the change has been successful.

  • I can't import my bookmarks on Chrome to Firefox even after I followed the Firefox guide on how to do this.

I can't import my bookmarks from Google Chrome to Firefox (version 3.6.13) even though I followed the guide on how to do this.

Just figured out by accident how to change the .html file back to a .json file. Wherever the file is on your computer, open a CMD or DOS window up. If the file name is something like "bookmarks-2011-07-15.json.html" you can rename it using CMD, but it wont work in windows. Use these commands without the quotation marks.
    "rename *.json.html *.json"
Their is one space between the l and *, "rename *.json.html(space)*.json"
That should effectively get rid of the .html at the end of the file. You should also see the file has the same icon it once had before having .html put on the end of it and it taking the icon of whatever web browser you are using. In Windows, not CMD, you might have to right click on the file and rename it again to get rid of the .json if it is showing, doing so wont affect the file anyway negatively. After it's renamed you can close the CMD window.
Now you should be able to import your bookmarks using the Firefox's "Imports and Backup > Restore > Choose File" menu and would you look at that, theirs your bookmarks.
Hope this helps even though it's now two plus months since first post.

  • Can i import old bookmarks in josn format

my computer crashed and i lost all of my bookmarks. All i can find is an old backup from over a year ago. it is saved in the josn file format. I have firefox 13 running on my computer. it doesn't give the option anymore to import bookmarks. How can i get my bookmarks back into firefox?

No problem that is the standard Firefox bookmarks format. BUT TAKE CARE, always make separate backups before trying importing such bookmarks as they overwrite any existing bookmarks.
    * see Back up your bookmarks or move them to another computer
** ''edit ''link is [[Back up your bookmarks or move them to another computer]]
Also before attempting your year old restore
*that note you could have other backups generated automatically, so read the above linked article
*consider trying to find and backup your profile that normally contains useful bookmark files (including ''places.sqlite'' which if not corrupt is a complete history and bookmarks database)
**see [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
Post back with how you get on, or if you need more assistance after looking at the linked articles.

Press either Alt or F10, that will temporarily display the traditional menus, you can then use "File > Import" to import from the HTML file.
