Can address book be accessed on a local area network

I am using Thunderbird on a network.
How can I access the addressbook from other computers?
Alternatively, can I locate the address book on the server?
Thanks,

I am unable to access intranet on my MacBook Pro 13" with OS X mavericks. Is it possible to use files on the Local Area Network? I use the files on the Local Area Network on my windows computer by typing in the I.P address in the library. Kindly guide me how i can use these files stored over the Local Area Network.

I disabled GateKeeper's automatic blocking of unrecognised developers, and so I was able to install the driver.
The Mobile Connect program is now installed, but the computer still does not recognise the modem.
I also borrowed a USB hub from a friend and it didn't make a difference.

  • How can address book and local folders stored on JunoInternet program be imported into Thunderbird?

Have been using Juno for email for years. Juno Internet program on my PC locally stores address book and saved emails in local folders. Want to switch to Thunderbird for emails. Can address book and local folders stored via Juno program be copied to Thunderbird? If so, how, plz.

If you are installing TB on the same computer as the Juno mail, the installation / start-up process offers the choice to import from another mail program.

  • Address Book Server - access from WAN

I can access my Address Book Server using the server's LAN IP address but not its domain name.
I have set up a global Address Book using the technique suggested in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/10571482#10571482 which works well. I have a couple of users set up who can see changes the other user makes to the Global Address Book.
The Global Address Book is accessed at my OS X Server's LAN address, 192.168.1.1 with the details as stated in the above thread.
I should (and want to) be able to access the Global Address Book from outside my LAN using the OS X Server's fully qualified domain name, myserver.mydomain.tld. But it doesn't. The client (10.7) Address Book fails to access. The domain address is correctly mapped to the server and works for other services such as iChat. Router ports are (obviously) open.
So I can set up a client Address book using 192.168.1.1:8800/principals/groups/abglobal/ but not myserver.mydomain.tld:8800/principals/groups/abglobal/ nor over port 8843 & SSL.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

    Yahoo might...
I believe that for different email service providers, the method to access the address-book would be different. Can anybody leads to any of the service providers??
It likely would be, if it's supported at all. Ask the support department of your service provider.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

If it's not wifi, then you can't. The iPad doesn't support wired internet

Reset the device. If it doesn't work try removing your account and adding it again. If that doesn't work then try restoring the device to factory settings by pluggin into iTunes and clicking "Restore".

  • IP addresses detection in a Local Area Network

    hi,
In developing a Administrative tool for a network, i would like to know about the "networking concept in java" through which, i can detect the all end hosts in a local Area network. Plz provide detailed info. regarding subject and hints related to programming.

    Dear ejp,Dear gaurav...
i would like to clear my query.I would like to clarify my reponse.
Actually, i want to develop a network tool that detect the all end-systems in a LAN. Actually there is no such thing as a LAN in TCP/IP.
Basically, i will use Windows bases network. So you need to take up my suggestion.
Although i tried using DOS commands but felt weak in that. Me too. Very weak at the knees.
Now, i just need to know how to detect all ip's on a windows based network. You just need to ACT ON THE SUGGESTION I ALREADY MADE.

  • Local Area Network Application

Please I am trying to write a local Area Network Application that would work for an organisation.
I intend using RMI to approach it. But I would want to know if RMI approach to network programming as any security issues. Cause i want the application to be super secure. I would have used socket but i kind of find it difficult to use socket to develop complex applications. I would also appreciate if any one could help me with a tutorial that explains in details on how to use socket to develop complex applications.
This is my email address *[removed by moderator]*.
Or you could give me a link were I can download it.

Well, you would use sockets to implement a complex application just as you would to implement a simple application -- only your application is going to be more complex. You wouldn't use the sockets any differently in your complex application.
To find a tutorial about how to use sockets, your web search keywords are "java socket tutorial". Choose the Oracle tutorial from the list which you get from your search engine.
As for RMI: it's implemented using sockets, as is any Java application which communicates across a network. Whether it has any security issues -- I'm no security expert, but no doubt you can use a packet sniffer to see what it's sending. And since it sends serialized Java objects, it might be possible to reverse-engineer the packet sniffer's output to inspect the contents of those objects. Whether that counts as "super secure" is up to you when you clarify the term's definition.

  • Browsing for other Macs on same Local Area Network

I have two Macs both with Appletalk turned on and both connected to a local area network. The router hands out IP addresses, i.e. they are not fixed. I would like to either browse for one computer from the other or enter the NAME of the other computer and have it located. I carefully check the other computer to determine its name and enter it in the "Connect to Server" and it isn't found. I try browsing and it doesn't show anything except a applications/Library/User folders in "network" None of there are on the other computer.
I have to log onto the other computer, look up its current IP address, then enter it on the one I want to connect from.
It should be possible to locate other computers that have sharing turned on.
What do I do to make this happen either automatically or when I browse. Even Windooze can locate other windooze machines on the same network!

I imagine you've already done this, but when you copy the computer's name, you changed the spaces to dashes, right?
If this is the Computer Name as listed in "Sharing":
    My Isolated Mac
When you connect to server (apple-K), you type this for the "server address":
    My-Isolated-Mac
I've had this problem with the Network Browser too. Today in fact. Sometimes the "Network" item in the left column of a Finder window wil have a tiny "eject" icon beside it, and when you select Network, you get a list of everybody available. Sometimes you don't see the icon, and when you select Network, I just see three empty folders. I haven't figured out why, but when I did "Connect to Server" and typed the Bonjour name of one of the computers on the network, I connected and everything seemed to work again. Hmmm...
    Good luck.

  • Login on local area network

how can we get list of users who login on local area network?

You will need to provide more detail. The question is very broad.
If (guessing here) you want to find all users in a NIS passwd map, type:
    #ypcat passwd > nis_contents.out
    HTH
    -p

  • It's s small local area network I'm looking to create.

    Hi
Can some one point me in the right direction please.
I have 32 G5 machines running latest OS I'm fed up with my IT department not being able to help with the smallest of issues.
I want to be able to connect all my machines together have a shared folder system be able to get work of one machine to another create accounts for all staff and have a reasonable shard volume some place to hold backup files. Not much to ask is it.
I need a server of some sort and some way of managing the server, but which one and how big.
It’s s small local area network I’m looking to create.
Just start me off in the right direction some one please.
Or can I use one of the G5’s to manage all the machines with server software installed on it? If I can how do I join all those wires to one Mac?

    Hi jegoadby,
Welcome to the forums... you are in the right place.
I suggest OSX server is what you need. An Xserve would be ideal. You could just buy the OS X Server software and run it on one of your G5's (though that Mac would need to be dedicated to the job and not used by anyone for day-to-day work).
Your strategy will depend on the current IT architecture of your organisation, and how much you need to play within that architecture, eg. DHCP, DNS, Printing services. Easiest for you woud be to create your own network of just your Mac machines & server.
To give you an idea of what this will involve check out Appendix B, 'Mac OS X Server in a Small Business' example, of the Getting Started PDF at:

Please come back with any specific questions.

  • Local area network disable internet connection

    Hello,
    i have a strange problem, i explain
Computer A  win XP   ip 192.168.2.231 with onboard network card
Computer B  win 98   ip 192.168.2.232 with pci network card
Router Linksys WRT54GS, with ip 192.168.2.230, but i use it just like a hub because i don't have here internet connection
both computers connected with cable and all work nice.
Then i added a wireless/USB Planet because i want to connect it to another router in another building to get internet connection, so i connected this Planet wireless/USB to computer A, all work nice, i get signal internet connection and ip 192.168.1.102
but ..... and that is the problem, when i connect computer B win local area it disable my internet connection, i try to ping some domain name from computer A, where Planet adaptor is installed, but it try to find this domain name in local area instead to route in internet connection, if i deactivate local area ..... internet connection work like a charm.
I tried to change several ip groups, all in 192.168.1.x, tried to disable, enable DHCP server in router, tried to change subnet mask, tried to use proxy, to play with router configuration...... nothing it not work.
So i think something about network onboard conflicts, so i installed a new pci card in computer A, ouffff nothing when i active local network i stop to have internet connection, i tried also to install another USB wireless adaptor and connect it via wireless with router, nothing ... when i active local network i stop to get internet connections
So the only way to get internet connection is do disable local network oufffff
    any suggestions about ?
