Can Address Book be networked?

We have 4 macs on a small business network.
Is it possible to network the address book so all 4 see the same info? also that changes on one will be applied to the others? (we do not have .mac)

MySync is a product aimed at providing “the
Mac-to-Mac syncing capabilities of .mac, without
.mac” -- I don’t know how it works nor have I tried
it myself.

Hi David,
Unless it's recently changed, MySync isn't set up for group sharing and syncing. Have you heard otherwise?
Great suggestion with the hawkings.net site.

  • How can address book and local folders stored on JunoInternet program be imported into Thunderbird?

Have been using Juno for email for years. Juno Internet program on my PC locally stores address book and saved emails in local folders. Want to switch to Thunderbird for emails. Can address book and local folders stored via Juno program be copied to Thunderbird? If so, how, plz.

If you are installing TB on the same computer as the Juno mail, the installation / start-up process offers the choice to import from another mail program.

  • Can address book be accessed on a local area network

I am using Thunderbird on a network.
How can I access the addressbook from other computers?
Alternatively, can I locate the address book on the server?

  • Can address book give a count of number in a group?

I've found I can select all in the name column of a group, copy, and paste into Nisus Writer to print, or have Nisus give me a count of the # of paragraphs & therefore the number of entries.
But I wondered if Address Book can simply tell me the number of entries in a group.

when you select a group in address book it will list the number of cards in that group in the lower toolbar to the right of the "Edit" button.

  • Share Address Book Over Network

I have 8 Imacs on my network. I would like to link all address books to one main one on the network. Is this possible?

    Hi Dozza,
The good news is YES, sharing an Address Book group(s) is easily done without .Mac
Since you are on an ethernet network, all you need to do is:
    1. Enable Sharing thru System Preferences from your "main" computer you wish to transfer data from/with.
    2. Drag your AB group(s) or individual cards to the desktop of your main computer - the one you have all the info in... (the cards will convert to vCards automatically.
    3. Place those groups or cards in your Drop Box folder which is: Hard Drive>Users>your "Home" folder>Public>Drop Box
    4. All networked computers will be able to access your Drop Box folder even if you do not want other info shared.
Of course .Mac is pretty darn handy too!
    Good Luck

  • Can Address book view/display personal "shared contacts" from Exchange?

It seems not to, but I'm curious if I'm missing something.
If I add my Exchange account to Address Book, I can search the GAL. That works fine.
But I do not see any "shared contacts" from individual users who (in Outlook on Windows) allow me to see their personal Contacts list.
Is this feature just not there?

I am trying to figure this out too.
    Anyone?

  • Can address book use aperture faces?

Saw that Lion Address Book can use a link to iPhoto faces.  Upgraded to Aperture some time ago - is there any way of having Address Book look for the Aperture faces instead of iPhoto?

I've recently switched from Eudora to Apple Mail and I'm trying to understand Apple's Address Book.
I've entered some of my contacts with nicknames (Eudora provided the option of giving a contact a nickname) but whenever I send an email in Mail and add a contact it doesn't find by nickname plus it enters the person's full name (including middle initial) not nickname.
    Questions:
    1. Does the name of the contact <not the email address> in my Mail client and sent email have any impact on how the incoming message appears to the addressee?
yes. they will see the name that you use when composing the message so be careful with your nicknames.
    2. Is there a way to search and show as the name of contact in the To frame just the nickname?
    not that I know of.
    3. If the addressee's incoming email name is influenced by how I enter their name in my Address Book, do I then need to have multiple entries for the same person if I use their full name for snail mail and short or nickname for email?
    yes.
    Thank you.

  • Address Book on Network?

    Hello,
We want to be able to have one main address book on our server that all of our stations can access, and add to. Is this possible with Address Book? Any suggestions or directions would be helpful. Thanks.

What you are trying to do requires Leopard Server (the client does not have what you want). If you do not want to install and maintain a new server you could use .Mac as a go-between:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306126
You can share and allow others to make changes to your AddressBook. You would want a .Mac family account for this, and get much more than just Addressbook sync.
I've read where you can sync your AddressBook with a Yahoo account:
    http://www.zaphu.com/2007/11/01/leopard-tip-sync-mac-address-book-via-yahoo-with out-mac/
The Yahoo account will reflect changes you make in your AddressBook, but I don't know if you can make changes from the Yahoo account and have them show up in your AddressBook. I haven't used this option.

  • Can Address Book open to default account?

I am just trying to move from Outlook 2011 to Mail/Address Book/iCal.  I noticed that each time I open Address Book, it defaults to all of my accounts combined (exchange address books and mobile me, etc.).  I usually only want to use and search one particular account's addresses.  Is there any way to force Address Book to open to my default account?  It is current set to my main Exchange account.

    Hi Matt,
I'm trying to figure this out also. So far, I haven't been able to figure out how. All contacts are sync'd but not in groups. Hopefully, someone will have a suggestion.

  • How can Address Book groups select the right email address?

    Hello
I am wondering about what should be a common problem, but I don't see any discussions of it.
Most of my contacts have more than one email entry: e.g.,  work, home, etc..
When I construct a group, let's say "Widget Group" and drag Mary Brown, Bob Smith, and Barak Obama into it, and then mail using the group address, it selects the FIRST email address to send to, even if I have tried to rearranged the template, set up a new field called "preferred" etc..
There seems no way to have a group email send to some specified email address, which REALLY makes the address book cumbersome. I suppose I"ll have to have separate contacts: Mary Smith--Work; Mary Smith—home etc..
SURELY there is a better way. Help!
    Thank you.

Thank you. I assure you I had checked throgh the apple help menu extensively, searching with various rubrics. This DOES work, however. Thanks! Not a very intuitive way to do things, I think.

  • Can Address Book sort/Print by address?

Is this possible in Lion AB or do I need a 3rd party
    application?
    Thanks, Tom

Thought of a workaround - to sort/print by Address, put it
in the First Name field, then add/reename other fields
    to suit. Works fine.

  • IOS 5.0.1 Can't Show OS X Lion Address Book Profile Fields?

In OS X Lion, Apple introduced Profile fields into the Address Book:
    Social network profiles
Address Book lets you quickly access the social network profiles of your contacts, including Facebook. Press and hold an email address to select the appropriate profile.
So, I filled this all in on my Mac. But then I synced my iPhone (running iOS 5.0.1) with my iMac, and discovered that the Contacts app on the iPhone doesn't show these fields. Is this true, or have I done something wrong?

I'm going to try that next.
What I just tried was creating a New Card in Address Book on my Mac and filling in these fields:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Twitter
    • Facebook
    • Flickr
I then synced my iPhone with my Mac, via iTunes.
The new card showed up in Contacts on my iPhone, but only the First Name and Last Name are visible. The three Profile fields I filled in are not there! Clearly this is a bug.

  • Sharing address book data

I have tried to export my address book data so I can import it into a contact management program. But Mimbers cannot open the files, nor can excel. Can address book NOT create a comma delimited or tab delimited file? And if so, why not?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, Address Book cannot export to anything but VCF. It's not a new issue.
Have you tried one of the online free or paid VCF to CSV converters?
Using your favorite search engine with the term 'VCF to CSV converter' brings up lots of links:
    http://soft.udm4.com/downloading/csv_to_vcf_converter_freeware/
Apple isn't going to address it, because others already solved the problem.

  • Address Book Family Card

Can address book join contacts if they have the same phone number? I would like to create a household account.

The only thing that Address Book currently offers is the related names feature. As an example:
    1 - Create a card for a parent
    2 - Create a card for a child
3 - While viewing the child's card, choose the Card > Add Field > Related Names menu item
4 - The related names field will appear with default labels like "friend" and "assistant". In one of those fields, set the label to "parent" and enter the parent's name.
    5 - Save the card
6 - Click on the related name label (e.g. "parent"), then you can choose the "Show" menu item which lets you easily access the parent's card
