Can Address Book open to default account?

I am just trying to move from Outlook 2011 to Mail/Address Book/iCal.  I noticed that each time I open Address Book, it defaults to all of my accounts combined (exchange address books and mobile me, etc.).  I usually only want to use and search one particular account's addresses.  Is there any way to force Address Book to open to my default account?  It is current set to my main Exchange account.

Hi Matt,
I'm trying to figure this out also. So far, I haven't been able to figure out how. All contacts are sync'd but not in groups. Hopefully, someone will have a suggestion.

  • Can I have a different address book for each mail account?

I have several email accounts that I use with Thunderbird. When I create a new email and begin typing the address, it autocompletes based on my personal address book. I would like to know if I can have a different personal address book associated w/ each account.
For example, I have an account for work and an acount for personal use. Suppose I have two contacts: "Mark Smith" a friend & "Mark Jones" a colleague. If I type "M" in the adress field of my email I would like for only "Mark Smith" to appear if I am composing that email from my personal account and only "Mark Jones" to appear if I am composing that email from my work account.
I am running Thunderbird 31.3.0 on Ubuntu 14.10.

@sfhowes: That sounds just like what I'm looking for. Thanks.

  • How do I copy an address book from one user account to another?

How do I copy an address book from one user account to another?

You haven't understood me. Follow these steps:
    1. Log in the user where are the files you want to transfer, and open a Finder window.
    2. In Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type /Users/Shared. Now you're on Shared folder, so leave that window.
    3. Open a new Finder window without closing the old one, go to the folder with the files you want to transfer, and copy them to Shared folder.
    4. After copying the files to Shared folder, go to  > Log Out, and log in the other user.
    5. Repeat the step 2, and you will get access to the transferred files. Now, you can open them directly from this folder, or you can copy them to a folder on your user folder

  • Address book access across difference accounts on one MAC

I can't figure out how to share the address book across the other accounts on the machine. Can someone please help, I am a recent convert to mac and i know it can't be that hard.
    Thanks in advance

If you want all users to access the same music, ratings, playlist, etc, do this.
    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire iTunes folder from /Username/Music to /Users/Shared.
    3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Option key.
3 iTunes will ask to *Create new library* or *Choose existing library*. Select *Choose existing library*.
4 Select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> *Add to library* and select the iTunes folder located in /Username/Music.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
7 Delete the iTunes folder in Username/Music
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Option). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to *Playlist is not the playlist* you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time. If you have Fast user switching enabled, the other users must quit iTunes in order for anyone else to use it.

  • Address Book - Open Window Shortcut?

If I have Address Book open and close the main window (command-w), there does not seem to be a Keystroke that will re-open that main window. Instead, I have to go to the WINDOW menu and mouse-select "Address Book". This is a pain when I want to quickly find a contact.
I have tried to add a shortcut using the Keyboard preferences panel, but that does not seem to work either.
For an every-day utility, this seems to be awkward for a common action. Am I missing something? Appreciate any responses. Thx.

    Hi,
It's a bit more key work than you probably wanted, but you can press control+F2 to activate the menu bar and then use the arrow keys to navigate to the Window menu.

  • Address Book opens when a script is opened, while script editor was closed

    Hi,
    Something puzzles me :
I have a very simple script with only these two lines :
    tell application "Address Book"
    end tell
This script is saved as a simple script.
When I open the script with script editor,
    * if script editor was already open, the script opens normally and I can edit it
    * if script editor was not already open, then Address Book opens itself (and the script opens itself with script editor)
What explains the opening of Address Book ?
What can I do to avoid this auto-opening of Address Book ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nicolas

You were right, the script will not compile. (there are some instruction between the "tell" and the "end tell" lines)
There are a couple of solutions to that one.
The first is that the script will compile if you're only using standard commands like 'activate', 'quit', etc. inside the tell block - these commands are universal, supported by all applications, and therefore you don't need the application dictionary.
If you are using application-specific commands, though, then you can provide the Script Editor a hint as to which dictionary to use via the using terms from command.
This tells the compiler which application dictionary to use when compiling the script, but it shouldn't affect opening the script. If you're only targeting one application and don't mind this workaround, it could be your solution:
    -- here's our target application
    set appName to "Address Book"
     -- let's target it
    tell application appName
-- now provide the compiler a hint as to which application dictionary to use
using terms from application "Address Book"
        -- commands go here
      end using terms from
    end tell
When it comes to compile the script, AppleScript will use the application in the using terms from statement instead of the (unknown) application in the tell statement.

  • Address Book opens up ramdomly

    Hey guys,
after 2.5 years on a Mac I have the first problem I couldn't solve myself.
I'm on 10.7.3 with all of my contacts on iCloud syncing with my iPhone.
For a few weeks now Address Book opens up unintentionally with hidden window.
    Console log says
11.03.12 18:05:12,474 Address Book: ServerNotifications: Setting delegate to APSD
11.03.12 18:05:14,748 Address Book: Subscription request completed
    11.03.12 18:05:18,655 Console: _mthid_copyDeviceInfo(288230377744881384) failed
It's alway these three lines occuring there.
I assume it has something to do with iCloud. I asked google but nothing really helped as there seems no problem like mine.
I hope you can help me here.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Share address book between different user accounts on same computer

my wife and i share one computer, but just started to use separate user accounts to keep our mail accounts separate. all our addresses are stored in the address book on my user account. is there a way to share that account with her so that she has access to all the addresses. this would be much easier that have 2 address books to keep updated.
i do have a .mac account and i have only activated one email address.

thanks for your response andrew. i've tried that but address book asks for the .mac name of the person you want to share with. i don't have a family pack .mac subscription only a single one. so would setting up an email alias for my wife accomplish this? is there a way to do this bypassing .mac all together simply because we're using the same computer?

  • ADDRESS BOOK Opens Unexpectedly? Usually with Widgets or shut down.

New Apple user here. New Macbook owner.
So at ramdom times my Address Book suddenly opens and quickly closes again. I have no clue why. I've noticed it USUALLY happens when i press f12 to check my Widgets. When this occurs, the Widgets pop up and Address Book opens as well for like one second and then quickly disappears again.
The same goes when I shut down my macbook. After pressing shut down, address book will do the same thing.
Now, this doesnt happen everytime but usually at one point during my day address book quickly pops and disappears.
    Any help?

Well, it looks like you’ve already identified the problem yourself. One of those widgets clearly needs Address Book to be running at some point for whatever it does...

  • Address Book opens at Startup

For several days now, my Address Book application opens at startup to the first vCard in my address book. I have not added any software or new widgets in some time. This just started to happen. I read through previous threads which indicated that the address book widget could be opening it. I disabled it and the problem still exists. I have repaired permissions and even disabled all widgets and it still opens at startup. Is there something else opening the application at startup? Any suggestions?

  • Address Book opens when Mails does

Every time I open Mail, 9 out of 10 times Address Book opens with it.
This has been going on for weeks now and it really starts to irritate me.
Anyone else having the same problem? I would appreciate any solution.
    Thanks

I just noticed that when I quit Address Book and Mail stays open for a while, Address Book starts up again just a few minutes later.

  • How can address book and local folders stored on JunoInternet program be imported into Thunderbird?

Have been using Juno for email for years. Juno Internet program on my PC locally stores address book and saved emails in local folders. Want to switch to Thunderbird for emails. Can address book and local folders stored via Juno program be copied to Thunderbird? If so, how, plz.

If you are installing TB on the same computer as the Juno mail, the installation / start-up process offers the choice to import from another mail program.

  • Can you have two address books on one icloud account?

My wife and I want separate contact lists.  Is there any way to do this with 1 ICloud account?
    Thanks,

No, you need separate iCloud accounts. If you want to maintain separate Address Books you and your wife should have separate user accounts on your Mac anyway.
You can setup separate Address Book groups within a Address Book in a single Mac user account.
