Can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 burn a dual layer dvd disk?  If not, which of the components is at fault?

When I spoke to a person about upgrading from Premiere Elements 10 to 12, I specifically asked if the program could burn DUAL LAYER 8.5 dvds and I was told that it could.  That is the ONLY reason that I upgraded.  Since recording in full HD the files are larger.  I video plays for local theaters. I have been trying to burn a disk that is 7.5GB (2 hours 15 minutes).  I bought RIDATA -RDL 4x 8.5GB disks.  Then had a dual layer burner installed in my computer.  Premiere Element dialog "incompatible disk" The RITDATA says the problem is Adobe, the Geek Squad says the problem is Adobe.
SO ANSWER THIS QUESTION: Can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 burn a dual layer dvd disk?  If not, which of the components is at fault?  I am trying to burn 18 copies of this video (no copyright infringements) and don't tell me to to divide it into 3 disks.

Can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 burn a dual layer dvd disk?
Short answer: Yes.
What are you burning to DVD disc - DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc or AVCHD format on DVD?
Does your DVD CD burner support double layer single sided discs?
Premiere Elements is supposed to (been there and done that....)
1. burn to Folder (8.5) for Publish+Share/Disc/DVD and Publish+Share/Disc/AVCHD
(you take the VIDEO_TS for the former and BDMV Folder in the latter to a program like ImgBurn
for the actual burn to the DVD double layer single sided disc)
2. burn to disc 8.5 GB/240 minutes
Have you gone the burn to folder Folder (8.5 GB) route?
Have you tried another brand of disc in spite of by the disc manufacturer and the Geek Squad are telling you?
A double layer single sided disc is labelled 8.5 GB/240 minutes. In reality, that 8.5 GB is 7.95 GB. Where are you
coming up with 7.5 GB for your disc? Was that due to typing glitch?
Please review and consider. Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

This comes up from time to time and appears to be the result of the DVD media that is used. Try some different DVDs.. slower ones if you can find them... 8x for example

  • How do I burn a dual layer DVD video with Premiere Elements?

I am trying to burn a video from Premiere Elements to a dual layer DVD.   I choose  "DVD" -- and it seems to recognize my disc -- then I "fit to disk" (the video is one hour  -- then I attempt to burn -- and nothing happens.  I have tried it on my internal DVD and on my external BluRay --neither seems to work

If you insert a DVD double layer single sided disc in the burner tray, Premiere Elements recognizes that as such with Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc. If you insert a DVD standard in the burner tray, Premiere Elements recognizes that for what it is.
The only time you see a distinction for double layer vs standard disc is in the burn to folder.
Both DVD disc types use the same max bitrate 8.00 Mbps. But, the DVD standard capacity is 4.38 GB not really 4.7 GB, and the DVD double layer single sided is 7.95 GB not really 8.5 GB. That has to do with the disc capacity labeling and not Premiere Elements.
Good job with the burn to folder. In a time crunch, you can take the VIDEO_TS Folder from the saved folder and take it to DVD-VIDEO on DVD double layer single sided disc using the ImgBurn program.
But, back to burn to disc....the successful burn to folder is pointing to the burner or the disc itself. What brand disc are you using?
What is the mode of failure for your burn to disc....you say nothing happens. Does that mean you hit the burner button and nothing happens?
We could look at deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file or do a program uninstall, free ccleaner run through, reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled. But, let us review the burner and discs situation first.
    Thanks.

  • How many cores can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 utilise on a CPU?

I am looking into purchasing 1 of 3 different products right now and Elements is one of those with others being competitors. Due to Elements not utilising OpenCL or Cuda increased rendering speed, other software looks like a better solution. However, the ones I am currently looking at only use up to 4 cores. The processor I am looking at is the Intel 4930k 6 core processor, will Elements utilise all cores effectively? Also I have heard Elements runs poorly on Windows 8.0 and 8.1 as compared with 7.* . Is this the case?

This is not Adobe. Just a user to user forum where some of us do not have 6 core processor. to give you a first hand answer and and all of us do not have access to Adobe Engineering support documents that are not typically seen online. We visit here on a non scheduled basis, so a posted thread does not activate an instantaneous reply process.

Interesting, it looks like a new format for the old link. But, let us see how effective it is with this new format.
Premiere Elements 12 should be able to use 4 cores. Probably 6 cores for encoding, but I cannot give you the definite answer.
Supported devices | Adobe Premiere Elements
I can tell you first hand, Premiere Elements 12/12.1 runs well on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, and Windows 8.1 64 bit.
And these computer are using dual core processors.

  • Can a G4 eMac take a dual-layer DVD burner?

I've been told it can't, but I'd like a second and third opinion.
    Anyone know?
    Thanks.
    Kurt

Thanks, JMVP. But Neil's thread doesn't really answer my question. What I meant was; I intend to buy an external dual-layer DVD burner and leave the original PowerDrive in the eMac. I want the dual burner to be able to burn dual layer DVD-R disks. Somebody told me that a G4 eMac hasn't got the something-or-other to operate any kind of dual layer burner.
What you're saying is, the right kind of dual layer burner will be compatible with an eMac, OR, the right kind of eMac drive will be compatible with a dual burner?
Sorry to be dense, this is unchartered territory for me.

  • Helpful info on burning to dual layer DVD's

I had posted a couple of questions two weeks ago re: burning an idvd project to a dual layer DVD. Was successful in the end. Further to this, Larry Jordon's December newsletter (www.larryjordon.biz) includes a very informative article on burning dual layer DVD's. I recommend it highly. Each of his monthly newsletters have a lot of helpful tips on fcp etc. (and no, my last name isn't Jordon!!)

Just for future reference, the correct address is: http://www.larryjordan.biz/. There was one letter off in the original posting.

  • Dual Layer DVD player or not?

Maybe I should know it, but can anyone tell me if I have a Dual Layer or DVD-9 player on my iMac ?
Model iMac7.1 - 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, bought in november 2007.
I like to know if I can run the Adobe CS5 DVD before I buy it ...
    Thanks!

I did check 'About my Mac' , but can not find anything about DVD Dual or 9...
To confirm, you did click on More Info to get to System Profiler, then in the Hardware section, Disk Burning, what does it say under "Disk Write"? For example, mine says:
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
which indicates a Superdrive that can write to both DVD-R DL & DVD+R DL disks.
In the product information on the web there was a specific warning: DVD player must be able to run Dual Layer DVD (DVD-9). This is the reason for my question ...
You may want to ask Adobe what they mean by that. If it's just to read dual layer disks, then like I said, any DVD drive can read a dual layer disk. But if one of the apps in CS5 needs to write to dual layer disks, then the recording capabilities become important. To me the wording "...player must be able to run..." infers that it's read, not write.
However, I believe you are in luck. Everymac's website reports that your Mac should have a dual layer capable Superdrive. (Limited to writing to DVD+R DL only. But again, should be able to read any dual layer disk.)

  • Can Adobe Premiere Elements accept asf files?

I'm having trouble importing .asf video files into APE.  Is this an unacceptable file format?

    bang surgical
Thank you. That is good news of sorts.
MotionJPEG video compression is often problematic for Premiere Elements (any version).
When it does present a problem, there are several popular remedies
    a. If video was recorded with camera, then determine if there is a utility that came with the camera
and install it to get the required codec.
    b. Download and install a MotionJPEG codec. The Morgan MotionJPEG codec has been used
successfully by many over the years. Sources of MotionJPEG may be available online.
    Morgan Multimedia - News
    c. Conversion of the MotionJPEG.asp to another format. You might want to start with
    HandBrake
    http://handbrake.fr/
in order to obtain a H.264.mp4 file.
Please review and consider the above and then we can try to sort out which would be best for your
    projects.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements - burning disc

I have burned a project onto a disc and after 99% burned a message appeared to say 'An empty directory is required' - don't know how to proceed?

    Judie Sutton
What version of Premiere Elements is involved and on what computer operating system is it running?
What was your burn to....DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, AVCHD format on DVD disc, or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc?
Before you hit the Burn button of the Burn Dialog, what did the Quality Area Space Required and Bitrate read?
What type of disc are you using DVD-R, DVD-RW, or something else? Was the disc previously written to?
Where are your Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks/Encoding Files directed and how much free space is at that location?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Downloading Adobe Premiere Elements 11 has paused at 50% and will not resume.

I purchased premiere elements 11 and attempted to download. The Downloading bundle went to 50% and then went to Toal Progress 0% PAUSED. I turned off my pop-up blocker and tried another browser (used internet explorer and then tried Chrome). The play button shown on the tutorials is not shown on my screen so I cannot use a resume button. Now what?

  • Urgent!! Please help me burn to dual layer dvd!!

I've done a wedding video and I need to burn it to a dual dvd, using DVD Studio Pro!!
    I've purchased Verbatim +R DL 2.4X
I've never had a problem burning signle layer dvds.
When I look at my system profile it says that I can burn dual dvds...
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA:
    Firmware Revision: AE39
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
When I try to burn my DVD I get an error that says:
"The recording device reported the hardware error: Unknown device error. (0x44, 0x90.)"
    Please Help!!

I'm not familiar with that specific error but I would recommend using Toast to burn your disc if you have it. I have found much more success using that over DVDSP.
Another option would be to use Finder. Put in your blank disc, in Finder choose New Burn Folder, put your files in that window and burn.
Third, you could use Disk Utility to burn as well.
    I hope this helps.

  • Oh no, its me again re: burning on dual layer DVD's !!

I had posted a couple of issues yesterday re: trying to burn a project of 4.25 gb using the white moving panes menu from idvd 06 but setting it to dual layer to get best performance. If I changed the settings (and use a single layer dvd) the project size would kick down to 2.5 gb which to me means less than acceptable quality. Since having issues with my G5 (as it would finish multiplexing and then kick out a message "mulitplexer error-error during formatting"), I hooked up my imac with 225 gigs and did DVD One set to dual layer with no problems and crystal clear video. Then this morning, tried to burn Part Two (with 4.21 gigs) and got the same message I got yesterday re: formatting. Lots of space on the imac hard drive. Using Verbatim brand DVD's. Really frustrating. Anyone had the same issue?

    Joe (and SD)
Have idvd 08 but wanted to use a menu from 06. Solved the problem with some direction from the Roxio user group . . . here was the recommendation from a reply (who owns a very nicely restored Austin Healey) after listing the issue there:
"Toast does not change the contents of a disc image when burned in the Copy window. So it can't remove menus. Control click on the iDVD disc image and choose Mount It from the Contextual menu (or choose Mount in Toast when you've selected it with the Image File setting in the Copy window. Now preview it with DVD Player. (You may need to press the space bar in iDVD to get the main menu to appear). If DVD Player doesn't automatically select it you can choose Open DVD Media from the DVD Player File menu and then choose the VIDEO_TS folder that's in the mounted disc image".
Turns out my G5 is the issue. Tried it there first and even though I could see the menus being created in the disc image process, it still only played the movie. When I duplicated the steps on my imac - all came out fine.
Thanks again SD for your help. Maybe this time I helped you (for a change).

I cannot burn EMTEC DVD+R DL discs on my iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846. I get the "The unit could not calibrate the laser for this medium.." error.
