Can Adobe Standard PDFs be opened in Adobe Reader?

I need to create a PDF where I can lock some areas of it and leave other areas open for others in our company to complete. What is the most basic Adobe that I can do this with - is it Standard?
Also if I have Adobe Standard can people with Adobe Reader open it? Can they edit it? (I am thinking not).
I can probably get the Standard software approved for myself as one person but thinking it would be too expensive for everyone else to get it as well.
Help! Is there an easy way to get my result???

What you seem to be describing is a "fillable" PDF that people can type on and fill in Adobe Reader - but not necessarily save, be sure you understand this limitation!!

For example: You're zoomed in on a very large page and you use the hand tool to pan the page in a swipe or flicking motion (the same motion you'd use to pan the page). The page would pan in a fluid motion and continue to pan after the swipe. It would slowly decelerate and come to a stop (based on the momentum of the original flick).
This would be a nice feature if it's not already there.

Can Adobe Reader 11.0.10 be downloaded to Windows XP?

Firefox tells me that I need to update my Adobe Reader. I have 11.0.84. I recently learned that the most recent version of Adobe Reader is 11.0.10. When I try to do a download, the version 11.0.10 is not provided. I am wondering since I have Windows XP, does that mean I can no longer get the latest version of Adobe Reader on my computer? I am so glad to hear from you. I wanted a trusted source for a download. I saw something online "Oldapps.com" or a name like it and you click and it just starts downloading and I got nervous so I got out of it. I like to see what I'm downloading.
With the link you provided I need the Norton Anti-Virus UNCHECKED because I have ESET NOD32 antivirus on my computer.
Do you know if the Norton Anti-Virus is unchecked in your link? I will await further word from you before doing the downloading.

Thanks, I have posted a couple of questions that I feel were a little dim and in fact one got a less than nice reply so I suppose I am a little embarresed to ask questions when I read the comments from you experts. But we all have to learn and I am sure you guys were less knowledgeable at the start. Hope for me yet !!!!
I did enjoy your "milk" comment. A nurse spilled a cup of tea on my Air when I was in hospital and the "M" key stopped working. Kept using the computer then suddenly after about a month the key started to work again. Shows these Mac's are tough.
Now that I feel a little more comfortable about asking, can you help with another issue I am having. When I try to download files from the internet they come in a file with everything in what looks to me like code. I therefore don't know how to install them. This is why I asked about Adobe Reader as I uninstalled it on Saturday and today have the download problem. Could A.R be the reason do you think?

How can I set pdfs to open in a new tab instead of prompting firefox to open them in Adobe itself?

I use a website with many links to pdfs. In Windows XP (probably an older version of firefox) I could right click on the link to open a new tab, and the pdf would open in the new tab. In Windows 7 (and updated firefox) when I right click to open a new tab, a new blank tab opens and Adobe starts up displaying the document in a new Adobe window. How can I change the settings to have pdfs open within the new tab (without opening Adobe)?

Tools -> Options -> Applications Tab
Under Content Type find Adobe
Under Action, Left click and select "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)"
That should do it!

Why can adobe reader open documents preview can't?

I recently came across a pdf here for a friend, and was shocked when preview couldn't open it, but adobe reader xi could. I had it in my head that PDF was a standard. Has adobe added something to it? Or did they just insert a script to force me to use their product? Would upgrading to mountain lion fix my problem? (newer Preview?)

Maybe I wasn't clear. I had guessed that the program that could only be opened by Acrobat was made with Acrobat.
What I wanted to know was why preview couldn't open it. Does every document created with Acrobat prevent other programs from opening it? It seems unlikely, as this is the first I have found with something like that. Is it a new thing with reader xi? How do they accomplish this? A change of headers? Some sort of non-standard encryption? An imbedded script?
I suppose it is improbable that anyone actually knows...

When we installed an update, 9.4, the SendMail item no longer showed in the list from Edit->Preferences.
Does anyone know why? Thank you.
We are using Debian Linux 5.0.8 and Adobe Reader either standing alone or in a plugin from the Mozilla Firefox browser version 11.

thank you for your suggestions, this is what I did....I downloaded adobe readers 10.1.2 , 9.5, and 8.3. I first tried installing reader 10, it got to 52.21% installed, then froze/ locked up.
I shut off the computer and restarted it, tried to remove the program so that I could fully install it, but received the following message:
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package.
I then went to my program files and deleted all the adobe reader files.
I then attempted to install reader 10, it got about half way , and instead of locking up or freezing it restarted as if there was a power surge.
I tried again, and it froze/ locked up at 52.21%
I then attempted to install reader 8 but received this message: Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate.
I then tried installing reader 9.5it got to about 53% and restarted itself as if there was a power surge, again I then gave up and did a system restore.

Can Adobe Reader affect Epson Scan?

I'm trying to scan documents using Epson Scan software and a an Epson 835 all-in-one.
After the software scans and converts the document but before it is saved, I receive an error message about an inexpected error and am told to restart Epson Scan. I found that I can save a non-serachable .pdf but not a searchable one. I also can save to JPEG and .tif. ABBYY FineReader will not operate the scanner at all and reports an "incorrect parameter which ABBYY support claims is an Epson driver issue.
I spoke with Epson support who is telling me that both issues are Adobe Reader problems.
Is that even possible? If so, what could be causing it and how can I fix it?

That is impossible. Adobe Reader can't scan documents. Adobe Reader can't create PDF files.

Can Adobe Reader be installed from file

Hi,
Looking to install "Adobe Reader 9 / Windows XP SP2 - SP3"
Problem - my fixed pc is on a slow connection, my dial-up ISP disconnects after 2 hours, nothing I can do about it. (Unfortunately being distant from the phone exchange broadband is n/a).
Frustratingly the 33.5MB (excl Google toolbar) download cannot quite complete in 2 hours. Tried a few times, once only needed another 30 seconds!
Q. Can I install from file. If so I can download and "save to file" to a Vista laptop and copy the setup file to the WinXP pc. Two reasons for suspecting that's not possible are, the advice to "run" and not "save to file", and an active-x "set-up" control that appears to want to install into my IE (blocked by my AV).
If it is possible, must I allow the set-up control to install into IE on the Vista (I don't want to cause any problems on the Vista, already had other problems with Adobe Reader on that).

Normally I would have just gone ahead and tried. Your experience of exactly what I needed to do overcame my "once bitten" hesitation.
And now the feedback - got old of "AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe", ran the exe from file. With a quick look at one or two pdf's all seems fine!
