CAN ADS BE INSTALLED ON ANY JAVA INSTANCE

If I have ECC 6.0 installed with ABAP only, can I install ADS on another system with Java installed to be used with ECC60 or does it need to be in the same system to work. Only looking for PDF output and display of HR reports.

Technically yes you can. In such a case you need to publish the ADS to the SLD. Please look at the section 3.4 of the ADS config guide for 2004
Publishing the Adobe Document Services to the System Landscape Directory
This procedure applies only if you have installed the Adobe document services and the Web Dynpro runtime environment on different J2EE Engines and if the communication between these engines uses the System Landscape Directory (SLD).
Prerequisite
A System Landscape Directory (SLD) must be already configured.
If not already done, perform the necessary activities according to the documentation SAP System Landscape Directory, section Administrative Activities, chapter:
Start and stop the SLD service
Configure the SLD server
Configure data persistence
Make settings for the SLD bridge
You can find this documentation by calling the following URL in your web browser (you must have a SLD administrator account):
http://<host>:<HTTP_port>/sld
where <host> is the host name of the SLD host and <HTTP_port> is the HTTP port of the SAP J2EE engine (The following naming convention applies: 5<J2EE_instance_number>00. 50000, for example, if your J2EE instance is 00).

First of all an Applet does not have to be "installed" as you would with a normal application. The browser handles the install and execution of the applet.

Installing NW2004s ABAP+JAVA Instance

We are trying to install ABAP+JAVA instance for our CRM system . On our Dev machine we have installed the CRM as Central system and have done the Java ADD-IN . However while doing a system copy of this we have faced some problems regarding the Java part .
We wanted to install in the QA box , seperate instance of ABAP and JAVA for Nw2004s CRM using the same database via sapinst.
Any ideas of how to go about this ? Also has anyone faced major problems regarding system copy with sepetrate ABAP+JAVA instances setup for NW2004s .

Can we access WebShop on Dialog Java Instance?

I had already installed ABAP+Java system on the system and already configured the WebShop completely. However I have a problem that system only access from user internal zone but I want Customer to access Webshop themself by URL. Can I install only Java Dialog instance in external zone in order to allow Customer to access Webshop by this server? If not, do you have any idea for this?

How do I install a second Java instance in a Distributed Installation?

Hello all,
I've just completed the Distributed Installation of a WAS Java stack. The Central Services and Database are running on one box and the Central Instance (01) is running on antoher box.
I want to add a second instance (02) on another physical box. Do I run the sapinst for Distributed Installation again, and this time go straight to step 3 and select "Central Instance?"
Since I don't see an option called "Install an additional instance" I am guessing that this is the way to do it?

My initial installation from sapinst was:
NW2004s SR1 > SAP Systems > MS SQL > Distributed System > Based on AS Java
There are only 3 steps in that selection (SCS, DB, and CI). There's nothing about a Dialog Instance.
However, Dialog Instance exists as a step in the High Availability System scenario. So is this what I should use?
But if I use this option from the High Availability selection, will it still work, even though my first box I installed using the Distributed System selection?

Should I use a separate JAVA instance for ADS

My customer has Enterprise portal and R/3 installed already. Now they want ADS installed. Would it be best to install a new JAVA instance for ADS or should I use the existing JAVA instance that is installed for the portal? I think the customer is preferring to use a separate instance so nothing already installed breaks. Also, if I do use a separate JAVA instance, should I connect to the portal through SLD?

Installation of new java instance for ADS (or) using the one available inthe portal java instance depends on the following factors:-
1) How much extra load can the existing java instance handle
2) What is the user case and expected load for ADS in the customer landscape?
3) Whether ADS will be used exclusively for portal ?

I have windows 7 64bit. When i installed firefox and then java, i do not have java tm platform or any java plugin. I can't watch free movie's online!!

As i told i have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit version. I install java and have problems with Java Deployment Toolkit and Java(TM) Platform SE. It won't show in add-on. I cant watch movies. When I play movie it says java is missing but when I use IE I can watch some movies. I try reinstaling Java and even reinstall Windows. But problem was still there. I run java check (from Firefox) to see if java is installed and it confrmed. I even try diferent versions of Java and Mozilla. I even use JDK and JRE. I install java for 64bit and mozilla is also for 64bit version of system.
I have another laptop with 32 bit version and everything works great. Installation procedure was same (only used 32bit versions of softwares).
When I go to control panel and java options (windows 64bit) enable java content in your browser is marked. But in advanced tab default java for browser (mozilla family) is unmarked. And when I mark box and leave (apply then ok) and return box is empty. It wont confirm. In 32bit version of laptop i have alsou java plugin but in 64 bit it is not there. Here is a picture what I was talking about. This is on windows 32 bit for 64bit is some just box for mozilla family is empty and under that java plugin do not exist.

you don't have to reinstall firefox or java, you can just download and install the 32bit-java next to your currently installed java version. it should then be picked up by firefox and be displayed under firefox > addons > plugins...

In Snow Leopard you update Java from Software Update (in the Apple menu). You can check your version by opening Terminal and typing
java -version
(don't get creative and type anything else)
The latest version is 1.6.0_65.

Can an AS-Java instance be added to an existing AS-ABAP?

Hi everyone!
I'm facing the following situation: can an AS-Java instance be installed on a existing AS-ABAP instance?
My development team wants to activate the AS-Java in order to "publish" some ERP transactions to some web applications but that one has not been installed with the AS-ABAP instance we already have.
Can I add this Java instance to the ABAP instance or should I create an Java instance separately?
Any info or help is appreciated.

But I forgot to mention that my system is NW 7.0, not Web AS 6.20 or 6.40.
I have followed the link you sent and searched for the SAP note mentioned there - 914486 - but the info is restricted to Web AS 6.20/6.40 platforms, and there is nothing mentioned for NW 7.0.
I was reading some docs for NW 7.0, explaining the "usage types" of SAP systems. It says that a SAP system can be installed as a single AS ABAP or AS Java or altogether.
Since my system was installed as a single AS ABAP, now I'm not sure if I can simply add an AS Java instance to it. I'm considering now to install a separated AS Java instance and then make the appropriated "links" between those instances.
What do you think?
Have you ever been through such thing?
Sorry I'm bothering you with it but sometimes we haven't got noboby to discuss such things like that. Somebody's else experiences can always help us to make an appropriated decision.

SNC Java Architecture - Where to install Java instance?

We are workin on installing SCM - SNC.
What is the common architecture for installing the ABAP and Java components for SCM and SNC? Are the ABAP and Java components normally installed on the same server? From the installation, it seems they should be separatel but I have heard of no customer examples that have this architecture.
If installed seperately, can the Java instance be shared with other SAP customer facing solutions?
Are there any good architecture diagrams that clearly show this? The refridgerator style diagrams don't help.
What is recommended?

So I understand that I can install OC4J stand-alone 10.1.3.2 on a SUN computer running Solaris 9, in any directory and as any user.
Correct?
Currently we have it installed in "$ORACLE_BASE/product" and owned by user "oracle".
However, a different user is used to launch it.
My gut instinct is that it should be owned by the user who launches it and it should not be under "$ORACLE_BASE".
I'm just trying to confirm the correctness of my gut instinct.
Because I don't recall reading anything anywhere regarding where OC4J stand-alone 10.1.3.2 should be installed nor who should own it.

How can I correlate an Java instance number with a server id?

I have 6 Web App Server running ABAP and the JAVA stacks. I can log into the Central Instance server and run /usr/sap/<SID>DVEBMSG00/j2ee/configtool/configtool.sh and bring up the GUI interface to "see" all the instances and their variables. I don't see an easy way to trace back the Java INSTANCE to the physical server's hostname.
Is there a central repository to correlate a Web App Server Java instance number to the actual hostid/hostname of the target server? I realize I can log into each Web App Server and look at the /usr/sap/<SID>D00/j2ee/cluster/instance.properties and find the Instance number, but I was wondering if this information was held in the SAP Central instance or SAP Database somewhere.

The instance ID used for the JAVA cluster is generated at installation time, and -amongst other things- takes into account the time it was generated. We installed two instances in parallel (on different hosts) and ended up with almost the same instance ID.
Because this can be very confusing, we asked SAP if this was changable - in theory it is only an ID which could be changed as long as it is updated on all places the identifier is stored - but SAP indicated that that is not possible, nor supported. We ended up with a diagram of the system architecture with all the identifiers on our desk.
Note that in the config tool - all instances are displayed with their system instance number. If you were to install a new system it might be usefull to install all instances with different instance numbers so you and distinguish more easily between them.

I am running 10.5.8, and just updated my java to java 5 update10. Now my firefox is missing the Java plugin, and I can't load any Java applet at all. When I try it with Safari, it hangs when certain Java applet loads. HELP!!!

It's not in Tools> Add-ons >plugins? Should be Java Plug-in 2 for NPAPI browsers 13.5.0. What are you seeing there? I don't think it's called the embedding plugin any longer.
Might try getting the Firefox 5 standalone application. Trash the current one and replace it. Doing this won't affect your Profile or any settings.

EDIT. Oops, may be different for 10.5.8. Was thinking recent Java update for 10.6. But try installing a new app anyway. In the past, this got me the latest Java plugin.

If you can't get any software updates, there is something wrong and I would suggest reinstalling Lion.
What errors do you get when you try to install the updates?

You can use 3rd party software such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone on an external drive.
I use SuperDuper to create a clone. Yes, it's true the Recovery HD will need to be recreated after restoring a clone because neither of these softwares nor Time Machine backup that partition. It's really no big deal. You just reinstall Lion on top of itself after the restore and reapply any Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update. I've done this a few times with no issues.
The Lion Recovery Assistant app creates an external Recovery HD on like a USB thumb drive, but it creates this using the Recovery HD from your Lion install. If the Recovery HD is missing, the app will not create one for you.
EDITED:
Create your bootable clone on an external drive.
Create an external USB thumb drive with the Recovery HD using the Lion Recovery Assistant.
Swap out hard drives.
Boot from the USB Recovery HD thumb drive.
Use Disk Utilities to create a new partition (Macintosh HD), format it with the GUID partition table and Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
While in Disk Utilities, click your hard drive (not the new partition); then click the Restore button.
The Source of your restore is the external clone you created. The Destination is the newly created Macintosh HD partition.
Click the Restore button. The restore will take awhile depending on the size of the clone.
After the restore, boot your system and it should boot into Lion.
Reinstall Lion on top of itself to recreate the Recovery HD at the end of your Lion partition.
Reapply Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update (if you want it).
