Can airport be used as a modem

can airport be used as a modem to hook up internet service from time warner

No, it is a router and wireless device.. there is no modem.. you must use one supplied by your ISP or one on their compatiblity lists.

I can't make my 2865 as a modem by using PCSuite greater than 6.86. What can I do to use it with PCSuite 7.0?

Are you trying to copy the OSX drive from a MacBookPro to an iMac?  If so, be glad it won't let you.  Most likely, it won't run at all; if it does, all sorts of things will go wrong.
What are you trying to do?   If you're trying to set one Mac up like another one, see How do I set up a new Mac from an old one, its backups, or a PC?

  • Can Airport be used as Access Point?

I am wondering if Airport Extreme or Airport Express could be used as Access Point or Wireless Repeater where it could help me to enhance my home wireless signal.
Although i have network cables laid in different rooms, but i would still prefer to have the whole house wireless.
    Could anyone advise me.
    Thanks!

Can I have multiple Airport Extreme N devices set up as APs and have clients roam between them?
Note that because this is a concrete building, they can't see each other and be used as repeaters. I just want to have multiple wired APs and be able to connect to the nearest one.
I'm currently using Linksys WAP54GP devices, but traffic from my MacBook keeps stopping, and I have to turn the AirPort (N) in the MacBook off and back on.
[Not sure how to describe the problem above, email and web servers time out, but an SSH session to a local Linux box continues to work just fine.]
Anyway, I'm giving up on the Linksys, and would like to know if I can use the Airport Extreme(s) instead.
    Thanks!

  • Why can't I use my internal modem to fax?

Since installing Leopard, my fax program (FaxSTF Pro) no longer functions. So I uninstalled FaxSTF, went to System Preferences (Print and Fax), set up my internal modem as a fax, etc. When I try to send a fax nothing happens. When someone sends me a fax, the modem answers, but nothing appears in my fax folder. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I found the solution in case anyone out there has this problem. After contacting Smith Micro (who sell faxSTF Pro), they directed me to an uninstall program on the website called FAXterminator. Here is the link.
    http://support.smithmicro.com/techsupport/kb.cfg/php.exe/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=1076&pcreated=001046472602
After running the program, faxSTF Pro no longer answered the phone, and the built-in Apple system functioned normally.

  • I have trouble getting my new Apple TV 2 to work to the internet. I have an Imac with OsX 10.6.8 using a 3G modem to connect to the internet. I have a Time Capsule with Airport. I can't get the Apple TV to see my internet connection

I have an Imac with OSX 10.6.8 dual intel core.
    Apple TV 2
    Timecapsule
3G modem connected to iMac for internet access.
I have tied to get Apple TV2 to see the inernet but it does not seem to see the inernet connection either via the Airport network or even if I connect it directly with a ethernet cable to the Timecapsule or the iMac.
I have tired to set up Home Sharing but it doen't see the Itunes Store so no go.
I don't have wired internet but it is probably something to do with using a 3G modem
Any tips on how I can check if the TV coonect to internet and what to do about this problem?
I was trying to connect my HD TV earlier using a WiFi USB modem but it could not see my iMac. Apple Support told me to buy an Apple TV but that is not helping as I can't see anything there either.
    Regards from Michael

Thank you so much Paul_31 for your suggestions, HUGELY appreciate the effort
I have reset the printing system, a few times for good measure but nadda.
I have also looked at getting the software from the Apple site after seeing that with Snow Leopard you should let the operating system lead the install not the manufacteurers software as it is most likely out of date.  I too found it wasn't there so I uninstalled the software got up the CLX_3300 series stuff then went from there with the USB cable.  It apparently hasn't worked either
Unfortunately now after using the print utility to scan for a while that has now gone again on the last restart of the Mac.  I am so completely clueless
The box says the printer is compatible, the place of purchase said it was compatible, the Samsung site says it is compatible.
I think it's the set up of my Mac? Our maybe a glitch in the network settings?
    Thanks again

  • Can I use the Airport Express as a cable modem?

I am trying to set up wireless internet in my home, and I am planning to purchase an Airport Express. Can I use the Airport Express as a cable modem, or do I have to purchase a modem from the ISP and then connect the AE to the output of the cable modem?
    Thanks,
    Adrian

No, the AirPort base stations do not perform the functions of a DSL or cable modem, so you will still need to acquire one.

Can I now use my airport extreme in the bedroom to extend wireless signal?
Yes, if you plan to connect the AirPort Extreme back to the Motorola modem/router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Extreme extend the Motorola signal wirelesssly.

  • HT1515 Can i use a broadbad modem on airport express

What do i need to use a broadbabd modem to the airport express

You need to download the appropriate version of the Airport Utility for your OS from the Apple support website
http://support.apple.com/downloads and enter Airport Utility in the search box if necessary
Then go to this link to set it up -

  • Can airport extreme connect using a mac mini.  the base station is not recognized so i cannot configure it manually

can airport extreme connect using a mac mini.  this airport extreme wont connect to internet via my cable modem.  I cant set it to bridge mode because it doesnt appear as a base station in airport utitlity...help

First, is your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) a 802.11n, 802.11g, or 802.11b model? Second, what is your primary goal for using this base station? Finally, is the AEBS the only router in your current network configuration?

  • Can u run Airport Express and a wireless modem together?

Can u run Airport Express and a wireless modem together at the same time?
I'm using AE purely for music distribution and have just bought a wireless modem for the internet (not a AE). However I can now only select either the AE network, OR the wireless internet network (it's BT HomeHub). Hence I can either play music or use the internet, but not together!
    Any ideas anyone..??
    Thanx
    David

You should configure your AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the modem. The instructions are in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  When I use the new airport express network I created error message says ip address is wrong.  Help setting this new airport express up

Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  Using the new airport express network I just set up it says the ip address is invalid.  What can I do to overcome this blinking amber light and error messages?

You need to begin by configuring the AEX to Join an existing network (Bridge Mode.) You can then connect to it using Wi-Fi, but the AEX will not extend your existing network.
If you can connect the AEX to your existing router using Ethernet, then you could use it to Create a new network. Otherwise, if you want to extend your existing network you will need to get a Wireless Access Point - WAP - from a non-Apple product like D-Link.

  • Can't connect to Airport Express using Linksys WRE54g?

I am having problem connecting to Airport Express using Linksys WRE54G, under the following circumstances.
    Here's my setup.
I am using Linksys WAG200G modem/wireless router in the studies. My house is fairly big and very weak signal in living room. Hence I added Linksys WRE54G Wireless-G Range Expander in living room.
I have two HiFi. One in studies and the other in living room. macbook and external HDD where I store all my musics sit in studies.
I use Airport Express (AE1) to stream music from macbook to studies HiFi. Works fine.
So I connect AE1 to living room HiFi. Macbook still in studies. The problem is iTunes cannot connect to AE1 now. However I still able to detect AE1, open/change settings using Airport Utility on macbook in the studies.
Now I bring macbook to living room. AE1 works!
What I intend to setup is,
    1. WAG200G, macbook and external HDD in my studies.
    2. AE1 connect to studies HiFi. I am planning to get another Airport Express for living room HiFi.
    3. Control the playlist using iPhone Remote and listen music in living room.
    Question:
    1. Did iTunes connect directly to Airport Express without going thru network router?
    2. How should I setup Airport Express in this case?
Appreciate anyone who can help me on this. Thank you.

    pss.
actually, is it possible to do what i'm trying to do... the guy in the Apple store said that i can connect to the Netgear router for my internet connection, and Airfoil can separately connect to the Airport Express to play music...
the way i've set it up so far, i can do either, but i can't do both... or do i need to somehow connect both wireless stations together...??

  • Sharing Internet via Airport Extreme using a USB wireless modem

I have had to go to NextG access using a USB modem (only option). We previously succesfully had the second iMac sharing the internet connection on an ethernet-connected wireless service. Now, I cannot get the other iMac to share the connection, because there is no option to choose the USB modem.
Another problem is the USB modem is top-dog - it won't connect unless I turned off anything else using anything remotely looking like wireless (even when I have my bluetooth phone connected to another USB hub). I can connect to the NextG network after disconnecting everything else and THEN reconnect, but I just can't get the Internet sharing going. I have also had the iMac freezing, demanding a power-off-power-on (unheard of in my experience!).
Is there any remedy for the Internet sharing at all? Configuring a different channel or something on Airport? Using one of the other config options?
I think there are something like USB-to-Ethernet adaptors (pretty costly here in Australia) and don't want to shell out for one if it doesn't work. Same with a third-party router. I also wondered if I should just forget about using Airport completely and run a few metres of crossover cable?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi Steven, I know this question has been answered and is a couple of months old but I think you may be able to help with my set up? I have a Thomson speedtouch 510 v6 modem router provided by Karoo (UK). My other Belkin N modem router has just bust [again] so the Speedtouch is my old faithful backup device. Now, i've never been able to get on ichat with the Belkin as its a mimo n speed and this is apparently not compatible; So i'm now on ethernet with the st510 and have just set up ports for ichat thanks to a thread called http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2719419&#2719419.
What I want to know from you (because I really need a wireless router to get me off this ethernet support system and back on airport) is how you're getting on with the st510 / airport extreme combo now and can you use ichat on it? If so does your connection doctor say full cone in network settings or something else? As I say, I really want to use ichat and have never been able to in 3 years of owning my Macbook Pro. Hope to hear back from you Steven. Regards Steph

  • How can I fax using my rendezvous printer, wirelessly via Airport Extreme?

I am trying to fax a files from my G4 PowerBook, using my printer, which is setup as a rendezvous printer, via my Airport Extreme Base Station. However, I can't get the fax program to find the printer, when it scans. It only allows me to use the Internal Modem or Bluetooth. How can I send a file to the printer and then use the printer to fax?
    Thanks. Wade

Got it - the problem is setting up and or using the modem inside the printer. The Canon website specs for that printer does say OS X compatible, but if Canon support is telling you it won't work I imagine that part of the driver that runs the dialog box and dialer isn't implemented in the Mac version. Just guessing here.
They cost $49 but you could get this USB modem from Apple and fax directly from your Mac without printing but that would be a shame having another modem in your printer.

I guess you could ask Canon if that's the reason it won't work, and if so when they plan to update the Mac driver to use the modem. You might get an unsatisfactory answer, though!
