Can albums be shared within iPhoto on 2 Macs?

We'd like to share iPhoto albums between 2 iPhoto applications on 2 computers. I download the images from the camera to my Powerbook, but my wife wants access to these images in her own iPhoto app on her Powerbook when I'm gone. She wants to be able to share the photos from her own iPhoto.
Is this what Photocast does or am I misinterpreting that? If not, how can this be done? Can you import via a local network from another iPhoto?
Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
you can use iPhoto sharing, but both users must have iPhoto open.
Here are my links on sharing, and also some links on sharing one iPhoto Library on the same computer. I think the best bet for you is to put the library on an external drive and both you and your wife can access it. The info for this is in the iPhoto Library Manager link documentation page for "sharing libraries"
SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

You will have to move the photos in those iPhoto (iOS) albums to the Camera Roll so that you can either manually import them into your Mac's iPhoto library or use Photo Stream to automatically import from you phone to the library.  However, you will have to be running Mavericks on your Mac.

Photoshop is not a format.  It's an application.
What you are looking at are not true JPEGs, just iPhoto's "tease" representations of the hidden images it swallowed, as explained above.

Can I move photos from iPhoto on my MacBook to my iPhone? If so, how?

Yes, which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Covered in the iPhone user guide.

  • Moving album with data from iPhoto on one Mac to iPhoto on another one

I have a photo album in iPhoto on MacBook Pro where all of the photos have been edited, rated and titles and descriptions have been added. How do I move that album to my iMac without losing any of the data?
    Thanks!

Well assuming that none of those things are the case, iPhoto Library Manager is telling you that the Library is damaged in some way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How can i delete shared gmail calendars on my Mac's calendar?

    Hello,
My company's email, calendar, etc is set up with the Google Apps. I created a Gmail account in my Mac (Running Yosemite) so I could sync the Calendar.
In the Gmail calendar, you can view calendars from teammates additional to your own to make life easier when setting up meetings, etc. Every time I add a teammate's calendar in Gmail, that new calendar is also synced in my Mac. Initially it was pretty cool, but what has happened now is that even though I delete the additional calendars in Gmail, these deletions are not replicated to my Mac, so I'm having to handle about 10 calendars and every time these other people receive invitations I have them on my Mac. The most I can do is "unselect" them in my Mac calendar but eventually somehow they get activated or "selected" again. Below a picture of what I see in my Mac.
How can I delete these calendars on my Mac?
Thanks in advanced for the help!

    Welcome to the Apple communities.
I'm not all that sure that I fully understand your question. However if you are trying to delete the groups on the left-hand side of your address book, then simply click on them once to highlight them and use the delete key on your keyboard to delete them.
Any contacts within those groups will stay in your main account and will not be deleted along with the group heading.

  • How to get photos from Photo Library, an album on iPhone, into iPhoto on desktop mac

Hi, this would seem simple, but somehow it's not.
I have ~1500 photos on my iPhone in a separate album. They were synced previously with an iTunes library, that I have now lost for good. The images are still on my iPhone and I want to transfer them to the iPhoto library.
    My question is...
how do I transfer the images from 'Photo Library' on my iPhone 5 (iOS 6.0.1) to my desktop?
When iPhone is connected to desktop and iPhoto is open, under Devices, it does not list the 'Photo Library' that I want to import, but it does list photos on the iPhone that I have taken prior to losing the iTunes library.
I tried iPhoto Library Manager, but it does not allow me to connect to the iPhone

Have you saved those iTunes library photos on your iPhone to the Camera Roll?

  • How can I transfer files from iPhoto  on my mac to my iPhone?

Trying to do the reverse of what's normal.  Thx.

Connect your phone to iTunes, go to the Photos tab of you sync settings, check Sync Photos from iPhoto, select which photos you want to sync to your phone, sync.  These photos will appear on your phone it Photo Library (which contains all the actual photos) as well as within the individual folders you chose to sync to your phone (which contain links to selected photos in Photo Library, not duplicate photos).

  • Sharing ITunes/IPhoto with another MAC?

Have a Mac Pro on Snow Leopard and Mac Mini on Tiger. Also have a wireless Airport Extreme.
Am I able to have one ITunes/IPhoto library and share with the other Mac without using a Network Media Center? Thinking about the Iomega Home Media Network Drive. If able, assume would be best to put everything on the Mac Pro since I have so much space than the Mac Mini.

The Mac Mini isn't set up to share - it is running Tiger, how do I set it up to share with the Mac Pro? Is there something I need to do to the Pro to allow it to share with the mac mini?
I believe that the sharing declaration is done entirely in iTunes and iPhoto. It's easy to try. Launch iTunes, open its preferences window, select the "Sharing" pane, and select "Share my library on my local network". Then see if that Mac's music appears under the "Shared" heading in the iTunes sidebar on another Mac.

  • Is there a way I can create a folder within another folder on mac?

I am trying to create a folder within folder. Ex: Vacation Photos > Vacation Year > Vacation Spots ( not of photos ) but like document files. Better example  I am taking an IT class and we have different units 1-10 I would like a folder for each unit under my IT document EX: IT 133 > Unit 1 > Unit 2 etc. Thanks in advance.

  • Sorting of Albums within IPHOTO

In Ilife 8, within IPHOTO, you can sort the albums listed under IWEB by right clicking on an album and then clicking on "sort albums". But within IPHOTO under albums, although the option to sort albums appears when you right click on an album, nothing happens when you do so. I know that I can drag and drop the albums to sort them, but I have over 200 albums and it is pain to drag and drop. Is there a way sort the albums automatically? Also, is there a way to sort the albums within ITV as well. Especially since every time that there is an update to ITV it wipes out the previous sorting and you have to start all over. If there is not current fix to auto-sorting the albums in IPHOTO, does anyone have a clue as to when it might be coming down the pike, especially since it can be done in IWEB.
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you referring to Events in the Events or Photos window? In the Events window you can sort the Events by title or date but in the Photos window Events can only be sorted by Date, either ascending or descending by using the View->Sort menu options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sharing an iPhoto libarary

Here is my kunundrum. I just went out and bought a new iMac and would like to know how I can go about sharing my iPhoto library between me and my wife. We both use the same computer; however, have different accounts. I would like to make it so that both her and I can both update the iPhoto library (i.e. add pictures from our digital camera, minor editing within iphoto etc etc). How do I go about doing this. I was thinking about pointing the location of my iphoto library to a shared folder and creating it there, then setting my permissions so we both have full access to modify this folder (which I am a bit unsure and leery of doing). Are there any better easier ways of doing this? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    B
P.S. I was also hoping to do the same with my iTunes library.

i did this without setting up an image or anything. I created a shared folder in the imac main directory and created Music and Pictures folders there. In those folders I dragged the iPhoto and iTunes libraries that were in my user folder. I then made sure both me and my wife had administrator privileges for our user accounts. I then went to the iPhoto library and iTunes folder and right-clicked to get info and under owners and permissions gave my account, her account, and the admin group, all read and write access and told it to apply to all enclosed items. I accepted all the prompts and now we can both add music and playlists to iTunes and add and edit photos and email photos, change web galleries etc., from iPhoto.
The one catch is that only one of us at a time can have iTunes or iPhoto open. If I have it open and she goes to her account, it will say it is locked. Fast user switch, close the app, and switch back. I don't know if there is another way to do that supports both having it open, but I am fairly sure you can't.
In addition, I have a .Mac account and got her a email only subaccount $10/yr so she has no homepage etc. I put my .Mac info into the .Mac preference pane on her side even though she has mail set up with her account. I then set the sync preferences to sync just Address Book contacts, keeping our bookmarks etc, separate on both accounts automatically. Now we have one master address book that mail can access from either side. If one of us updates it, it will sync the changes to the other.
