Can albums be sorted by filename (not date)?

I have a set of portfolios, stored on a microSD card, that I would like to sort and display on the tablet by filename -- but the default is by file (creation) date and I can't find any Settings options to change that. Is there a way to do this on the tablet?

N95 and image gallery sorting by filename, not by ...

Hello!
In N95, the default sorting of images (and photos) is by date-time. This is stupid and useless, because:
- I edit some of my taken photos, so they have different datetime stamps than originals
- I always manualy define the order of photos by putting numbered prefixes in filenames.
The gallery on N95 should be able to sort by filename. I cannot find a "sort by" option. Is there any?
Or did Nokia forget to add such an important option?

So it seems that the only solution is to "touch" files (modify timestamp); in groups, so I can simulate "albums" (all files in one group get the same timestamp). Then the files are sorted by filename.
But this is possible only using microSD card, connected through "Data transfer mode" to PC.
I don't know who programmed this gallery application, but it is really some of the worst programs which I saw. Didn't they ask any user what we want? Yesterday I tried to copy a lot of my journey photos (around 4000) to memory card and what then? Each time when I opened the gallery, photos was processed around 2 minutes before displaying!!! I hate this application. Why does it need to count the photos? And, if it really needs the total number of photos, it can store the number or make some database, which is refreshed on demand, like music list.
And, I don't find any option, to hide some folders from displaying. For example, I have some photos for contacts, and I don't want them to be displayed in gallery. Is this possible?
Because, in my opinion, this gallery application is so bad and useless, I wonder, if there is some (3rd party) gallery application, which works like ACDSee or Irfan or any other normal program?

Can albums be sorted?

If I create a lot of albums, I'd like an easy way to find the album, one way would be to alphabetize them, so all the Christmas albums, for example, would be together. It also might be nice to be able to drag the albums into a particular order. Also, can you have imbedded albums? So I could put all the Christmas albums into a folder called Christmas, and I wouldn't have to scroll through dozens of Christmas albums looking for Halloween.

How are you using Revel? Are you using it on the Mac, Ipad or Web at Adoberevel.com? You can create albums and add event date info to your images. (see images below) Then you can sort your images by date or event. If you are a pc user and using Adoberevel.com then this is not available. Only for the mac and ipad, iphone.
Currently there is not a way to have nested albums (Album embedded with an album). We have received requests from others for this feature, as I will add your vote to this list.

Can No Longer Sort New Files By Date!

Whenever I download new files and try to access them in finder by sorting by ANY of the date related fields, the new files always show up under "No Date" making them a pain to access. WHY???
Most other files show up in the different categories "Yesterday", "1 Week ago", "More than 30 days ago" etc. But always my new files show up in "No Date" and I have to scroll down and search for them instead of seeing them at the top of the list! Why???
I tried sorting by all of the date related fields... Date Added, Date Created, Date Modified, Date Opened...none of them work.

My Recently Added is now sorted by Alphabetical not Date added

So i just plugged my iphone in to update my music and i went to click recently added to listen to some but for some reason it was sorted in alphabetical rather than date added, i really need the function of date added to i can get all the newest music i put on.

I have just redone my recentl added playlist and ordered it by date. When i sync to my iPhone it displays in the same date order

i am using a gpib controller.I cannot seem to find a way to switch between multiline commads and data commands.the key is the ATN bit as to send a DAB command the atn bit must be low. I cannot make the controller distinguish when a command is a adta command and not a multiline command,

i am using the measurement computing gpib controller cb7210.2 which is nearly ni compatabile.i am interfacing it with a microcontroller connected to the pc.Then i am trying to use a monitor program that is embedded in the microcontroller to perform remote access of instruments.i am using assembly. i have managed to communicate with the instrument.now the problem is that i cannot make the distinction between data commands and interface commands.for eg if i send 3Fh and atn happens to be 1 this is interpreted as UNL if atn is 0 then it is interpreted as data command.i need to be able to have control of the atn bit so that i can send either at will. so to problem is how to control the atn bit.

Found the group in store (in this case Juana Molina) It said music -> alternative
Changed to column view, and could not find the artist at all in any of the sub categories.
iTunes is really the biggest pain in the .... and has gotten worse over the years.

I'd like this feature as well. I tend to browse my photos by date in Aperture, but on ios thay always appear in some bizzare random order.

Andrew, I know I am extremely late to the party but I too use Grid View. I had the same problem that you had but have found this to work for me. I used it and it is still holding as my default sorting even after switching between the Artist page and Grid View.
Once you are inside of the Artist page continue to click on the Album column until it shows Album by Artist/Year.
That will give you each album sorted by the year instead of it randomly sorting it for you each time you leave an Artist's page and then back again.

The entries in "Notes" are shown sorted by date of creation. Can they be sorted alpha/numerically?

I would like to be able to sort the entries in "Notes" alpha numerically. By default these entries are sorted based on the date of creation of the entry.

As I said, it works perfectly well for me. Try putting the sidebar into Contact Sheet mode and see if the dates are sorted correctly. Here's an example from my machine:
As you can see, if you have good eyes, all are arranged in date order, regardless of day, month or year.
Just two things occur to me about your problem. I see that your date format differs significantly from mine. Try changing it in System Preferences->Language & Text->Formats and see if that has an effect. There may be a bug in regard to how Preview handles the various date formats. You might also try logging into your test account and see if Preview behaves correctly there, with everything in the default state. If you don't have a test account, create one. Leave everything in the default state and keep it around for future tests--it doesn't take much space and is very handy to have around.

How can I re-sort my albums both chronologically and in track order?

Hi all,
All of a sudden, the correct album track order on my iPod Classic has gone haywire!
I have many, many playlists, containing albums by all my favourite bands, arranged in chronological order. This means that I can start playing the Beatles (for instance) with "Please Please Me", and work my way through to "Let It Be:Naked", playing each album in its turn, with the track listing of each album in their original order.
Of course, I have to tell iTunes to sort "Album by Artist/Year" to achieve this end, and up until just recently, things have been fine. Most of my 250+ artist-dedicated playlists are sorted this way.
Now, all of a sudden, I find that the track order within these albums in iTunes are appearing in a completely random order. The only way I can get the correct track sequence back again is to re-sort the list by "Album" which re-arranges the albums alphabetically, but that does not list them chronologically....
I have tried re-sorting the chronologically dated and named albums by clicking the column header, and when it comes up with sorted by "Album by Artist / Year" (which is where it ONCE was all automatically sorted into correct sequence of track numbers) now, it comes up with all the album tracks in random order, within each album.. It sorts the albums into the correct chronological order, but the tracks within these albums are all messed up.
As I said earlier, if I choose to sort each playlist simply "By Album", then all the tracks on each album are in the correct order, so I KNOW that the correct ID Tag info is still there..
Until now, I have been able to pride myself on (usually) being able to manage the sometimes quirky moods of iTunes, which I have been using for over a decade - but I have never had this problem before.
Please also note that all my 23,000+ tracks have album dates, track numbers, artists, groupings, genres, play counts, and most also have cover images.
This week, I have downloaded and re-installed iTunes 10.6.3.25, but still no change.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what I can do to get things back the way they were again?

I just tried using the column browser as you suggested, but it remains the same.
I can either have the albums by any one artist sorted alphabetically - with the tracks in the correct sequence....
Or I can have the albums sorted by year of release - with the tracks in random order....
But not both!
The most curious thing is that all playlists are not affected. Probably three or four out of the 250+ are listed the way I want them all to be.
It's driving me bloody crazy!

When in the bookstore, can you sort books by release date

Often times find an author and ey have multiple books, some might have 10 or 20. I want to read them in order or maybe I just want the latest. It seems they are displayed with no rhyme or reason that I can see. Is there any way to sort them by release date?

I agree that Apple should improve the year field to be an actual date.
I am not 100% happy doing this, but when you have multiple albums from a single artist for the same release year, a temporary solution is to chage the album title by adding an outline type letter before album titles for that year, so that they appear in the correct order:
David Bowie
1977
a. Low
David Bowie
1977
b. "Heroes"
etc
This could help in the short term until Apple changes that field.

So true! I have to agree: "It appears Reminders in 10.8 did not get a whole lot of thought put into it regarding how folks actually use reminders."
With Mountain Lion, Reminders no longer resembles a task-management (to-do) app in any way. I used to be able to limp along using it for my to-dos (although it never did accommodate this need well). This upgrade has made Reminders completely unusable for task management.
Once I got over my disappointment, I did some research and decided to try "Things." This application has all the functionality I've been wanting all along. It has a Mac version, an iPhone version, and an iPad version (among others)--and it keeps all devices synched via the Cloud (just not the iCloud ... but who needs the i ?). I wish I'd discovered it years ago. I'm glad now that Mountain Lion put Reminders over the edge; otherwise, I would not have made this discovery.
"Things" (oddly named though it is) comes close to the old Franklin planner software I used to love and haven't been able to find a substitute for. It can import items from Reminders, and it works with Siri. It's a joy to use, and it does everything I want it to do plus some things I never thought of and will use all the time. I downloaded the free trial version last night and within an hour paid for it with gratitude.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you want. Which view, exactly, are you trying to use? Almost certainly, you can do what you want...
In iTunes 11, I have the sidebar showing ('cos I prefer it), and :
although I have ringed Composers, this view of my Library is sorted by Song title.
And "group albums" by ...
title?
or artist?
If you can be more specific about your requirements, then perhaps we can give you better help.

Total BS. If you're listening to a soundtrack album with a ton of artist, you have to know the name of the first artist listed to find it in your library. They used to just have an "Album" sort field, now it is "Album Artist" and "Album by Artist", riddle me the difference because I can't just sort by album. Trying to find out info here is an insult too. If the iPod wasn't so great, I'd totally never come back to Apple. I'm in the market for a new phone and you just made an Android customer.

Nevermind, Apple gave me a link to a similar problem after creating this. Marked the album as a compiliaiton for anyone interested.
Not sure how to delete this so I'll just leave it up.
