Can an Airport become an Ethernet Jack for a VOIP phone?

I have an Airport Extreme broadcasting wifi already and need a remote ethernet jack for a voip phone in a place where there is no hard wired jack. Can the jack on the Express become a remoted jack?

Can the jack on the Express become a remoted jack?
Yes, assuming that the AirPort Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme.
If you need more wireless coverage in the area where the AirPort Express will be located, you can configure it to "extend a wireless network". The Ethernet port is also enabled in this setup.
Important....your AirPort Extreme must be the newer "n" version to allow this. The "n" version of the Extreme is square with  rounded corners. The "old" version of the AirPort Extreme is shaped like a round dome.
If you do not need more wireless coverage in the are where the AirPort Express will reside, you can configure it to "join a wireless network" and then select the option to enable the Ethernet port. The "join" setup will work with either the "new" or "old" versions of the AirPort Extreme.

  • Airport express RJ-45 jack for a network drive?

I am interested in extending my airport express network with a second airport express. Can I use the RJ-45 jack to connect a network drive (Buffalo LinkStation) or is the jack intended only for an incoming signal from cable/DSL modem? Or do I just need to get a regular wireless router with a multi-port switch? Does the airtunes functionality work on a wireless network provided by a non-apple router? I know getting a regular router is the less expensive way to go, but I would not mind having a second airport express for the airtunes capability if it could also run my network drive. I also know I can add an airport extreme to my network, which has extra ports, but's that's more than I want to spend.
    Thanks for any advice.

Yes, you could buy a second Airport Express and configure it to "extend" the existing wireless network created by your existing Airport Express. The ethernet port on the new Airport Express would then be active and yes - you could cable a network drive to its ethernet port.
Yes, you can configure an Airport Express to wirelessly provide iTunes streaming on a wireless network created by a non-Apple wireless router.
My suggestion - for best performance, I recommend the network drive be cabled into your network. Therefore:
    - buy a non-Apple wireless router, and use it to create your wireless network. The network driver could be cabled to one of the LAN ports on that wireless router
    - configure your existing Airport Express as a wireless client on that router's wireless network. You can then wirelessly stream iTunes and print to a printer connected to that Airport Express.

  • Distortion workaround: can chip swap using line out jack for rear out ja

I am using a SB Audigy EAX. My headphones sound like a blown speaker mostly out of left ear. I tryed everything including reinstalling xp on my dell and nothing worked [yes I tried other headphones to no avail]. Finally I played around with the balance and realised that the left and right channels were leaking together slightly so I think there is a physical problem on the card. As a temp solution I have set my card to use four speakers and plugged my headphones into the rear out which is a different jack on the card. It sounds fine from the rear out jack but I wish there was a way to have the card use the rear out jack for line out output. In other words is there a program or driver that can tell the chip to swap line out jack for rear out jack? My card is no longer under warranty and I only ever use heaphones. The problem with my temp solution is that some winamp plugins and games don't function properly.

On my sound blaster ex, when connecting through the analogue 6 channel output, Line Out 3 is a 4 pole mini jack. My sound system is only 5. and doesn't need the centre rear speaker. Does any one know if in this case I can just use a standard 3 pole stereo jack for subwoofer and front center?
For analog 5. it should work. See the user's guide.

  • Using Airport Express as Ethernet Access for Network Audio Receiver

    Hello,
    I have a quick question.
I recently bought a Onkyo CR-N755 Network receiver.
I would like to take advantage of the network radio functions, but am running into a problem.
I created an "Internet Sharing" set-up so that my macMini shared it's wi-fi signal over Ethernet, but it seems that this creates a new network as the receiver shows that it has IP address 192.168.2.3, where as everything else in the house is on 192.168.1.xxx. The receiver was able to access internet radio, but I could not find it with the controller app on my iphone, presumably because it was on a different network.
I think that the easiest solution would be to buy an Airport express and Connect the receiver to it by LAN.
In order to do this, would I set up the express as a bridge, create a new network with the same settings as the Extreme, or would I have to extend the network? I have read that bridging reduces bandwidth, so I would prefer not to do that if possible.
So can (and how do) I go...
Airport Extreme  --wireless--  Airport Express --Ethernet-- CR-N755  while still keeping full bandwidt for the 3 ipads, 2 iphones, 2 wifi macs, appleTV, and numerous connected gaming systems that I, my wife, and 3 children use?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

In order to do this, would I set up the express as a bridge, create a new network with the same settings as the Extreme,
This option would require a permanent wired Ethernet connection between the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express. This will provide full bandwidth over the entire network.
or would I have to extend the network
This setting would be used if you plan to connect the AirPort Express to the AirPort Extreme wirelessly. There will be some unavoidable loss of bandwidth over the network with this type of setup.....approximately 30-50%, depending on a number of factors.

  • Airport Express as "Ethernet-Bridge" for old iMac - how to configure WPA?

    Hi,
I have a very old iMac G4, which up to now was connected to my network via a Netgear wireless bridge. As I switched my router to a Fritzbox, which supports N-Draft I wanted all network clients to use N-Draft, so I bought the new AX.
It works ok as an Ethernet bridge when configuring the wireless part to "connect to a wireless network", "allow ethernet clients" and no encryption.
I am now online with that configuration.
But when I activate either WEP, WAP, WAP&WAP2 encryption on my Fritzbox router and then in the Airport Express it won't get an IP-address via DHCP anymore. It can connect to the wireless network, but via the ethernet connection it does not assign ip-address anymore.
I already tried assigning the IP-address manually. The light on the AX is green, but DNS does not resolve, although I also entered the DNS server of my provider manually.
Any idea? Is it perhaps just not possible the use the ethernet port if the wireless connection is encryted?
    Regards,
    Jörg

    Hi again,
I can answer my question now: my router (Fritzbox) and the Airport Express can only communicate with ONE kind of encrytion - only via WAP2.
WEP does not work, WAP does not work, WAP/WAP2 does not work.
But at least now I have a complete N-Draft Network with good encrytion. It only cost me 4 evenings of long trial & error configurations.
Hope I can at least help others,
    Jörg

  • L added her sister R to a family plan. Can R have her own itunes account for syncing the phone and downloading her own apps, or must she always sign in using L's account and password?

So, if R wants to sync her iphone 5C but still have L pay for it on the family plan, can R just get her own itunes account for buying music and apps? Or is she stuck using L's account?

Family Plan as with the cell phone carrier?
Is so, the iTunes account or Apple ID is not related to the type of cell phone plan an iPhone is under.
Will the sisters being using the same computer and iTunes library?

  • HT4436 I have an existing Apple ID that I use for my IPOD Touch.  I just received an Iphone 4S to replace my existing Blackberry that broke.  Can I set up a new ID for my work phone, but still use the same laptop that I use for my Ipod Touch?

I have an existing Apple ID for my Ipod touch being used via my laptop.  I just received an Iphone 4S as a replacement for my Blackberry Curve that broke, that goes through Verizon.  Do I set up a separate Apple ID for the phone, and will it work with the same laptop? Can one computer work with two ID's and two different devices?

No need to create a New Apple ID... your Existing one will work fine...

  • Can I exchange my water damaged 5s for a reconditioned phone or have it fixed?

My young son decided that my new (3month old) 5s iphone needed to go into a full sink of water with the breakfast dishes....I have no idea how long it was in the sink, but I have tried to dry it out over a few days and when I finally plugged in the charger lead, it looked as if it was going to recharge, shortly afterwards it died and now will not work at all.
I understand this is not covered by warrenty, but I can not afford to purchase a new phone at the present time.
Being that the 5s was my first iphone, I have fallen in love with it and now I'm desperate to replace or fix the phone asap.
I have read of such exchanges of reconditioned phones and wonder if I may be able to also do this?

    Hi kelllie,
Did you by any chance purchase AppleCare + for your phone? If you did, then you are covered by 2 incidents of accidental damage:
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html
If you do not have AppleCare +, then you can only see what you could get using the Apple Recycle program, and then use the gift card balance to purchase a new phone:

  • CAN I DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE  4.3.5 FOR MY I PHONE 4 after

I installed IOS 5 FOR my I Phoone 4 ,, it does not work well ,, can i remove it & reinstall the previous version ( 4.3.5 )

It's probably too late now. When you install the firmware on an iPhone, iTunes contacts Apple for signing the firmware, kind of like asking for permission for the installation. Apple usually stops signing older firmware versions a few days after the release of a new version.
I did downgrade my iPhone 4 back to 4.3.5 after seeing a problem in iOS 5 with incoming calls sometimes shown with the phone number even though I have the number saved with a name in Contacts. I will upgrade again once Apple releases a fix for this.
