Can an app receive SMS in some way?

I'm sure this is stated in the guidelines, but Apple won't let me view those for some reason. I want to make an app that will read incoming SMS in some way, either by just receiving them or by reading notifications of incoming messages. Is that allowed? I previously thought that no apps could interfere with other apps at all, but it appears that people can make custom keyboards for download, so I'm not sure what is allowed and what is not.

No, your app cannot process incoming SMS.

Veranda Magazine is a free app available for iOS devices in the iOS App Store.  You then purchase a Veranda Magazine subscription from within the app.  In other words, the app itself is free, but the contents are not.
There is no way to duplicate or import this to a Mac.  Your Mac runs a totally different operating system.
iBooks can now import to Mac since OS X Mavericks came out about a month ago.  But that does not apply to magazines or iOS Newsstand publications.

Why can't I receive sms from other phones ?

Try going to setting->general->reset-> reset network settings. And see if that works.
You may also want to contact your carrier and see if there is anything funny going on with your profile.
Best of luck let me know if this helps.

  • Why can't I receive sms on skype?

I paid for skype credit specifically so that I could send and recieve texts.  Why can't people return skype texts?  I would not have paid for the service if I knew it was only for sending, since you can send text messages for free online!

I also want to know the answer to this question. I'm willing to buy a Skype ONLINE NUMBER if it means that I can recieve return SMS.
You can't receive SMS messages with Skype's Online Numbers.
In most countries, these Online Numbers are either "landline" or some other special Voice-over-IP class of number, not a mobile number.  If you have a mobile number set up as Caller ID with your Skype account, SMS messages can be sent from Skype and carry that mobile number as the "sender" of the message.  Replies would then go to the mobile number, not to Skype.

  • Help required - a problem receiving SMS from some ...

Is anyone alble to help resolve a problem with text messages to and from a land line phone please.  Are there any long standing issues sending and receiving texts between certain mobile phone providers as I have been having problems for some time.  I can send and receive texts to and from the land line between old style mobile phones on 02 and another provider.  Some months ago a relative using Orange (I think) was able to receive messages from my land line perfectly OK and then suddenly received them with no message content.  They contacted their provider who could not find a problem.  During this weekend a contact using Virgin network has sent a text to the land line which I have not received at all.  They informed me by email and I sent them a test text from the land line which they have received OK.  They sent a reply back to the land line which again I have not received. They have contacted their provider who has checked all connections at Virgin and there doesn't appear to be a problem.   Could someone inform me what is the likely cause of the problem, ie mobile network not recognising land line numbers as capable of receiving SMS messages, the BT SMS system, or my text enabled phone.  I look forward to any suggestions.  With many thanks.

    Hi Redlollipop
Did you get any resolution to your problem?  Sorry to ask so late after your post, but my mother has had a similar fault since March this year - she can send text messages to all networks on her sms-enabled landline BUT cannot receive replies from the Virgin/T-Mobile/EE group!
Virgin say the messages are blocked by BT - however after exhaustive tests BT say that the problem must be with Virgin! Virgin reply that they can "do no more" because it is not their fault, BT say they can "do no more" because the problem with BT Text only occurs with that particular network...
I have found it impossible to get either side to talk to each other rather than through me, so I am now preparing to involve the Ombudsman service in the hope that they may be able to at least initiate discussions between the technical experts on both sides.
    Many thanks!!

  • Can Iconified app receive events?

    Hello.
I have 2 java applications. Both are started from different commands. While working on one, the other is in iconified mode. Actually it is in
    setVisible(false)
mode. That way I have only one item in the win task bar at a time. Is there a way to have one application pass focus or anything to the other application and tell it to setVisible(true)?
As in, When I minimize one, it is set to non visible, and the second app is set to visible.
    They are in separate JVM's
    Thanks for the thoughts.
    ST

Since they are in separate JVMs, not directly, since the JVMs don't share any resources. Of course, like anything, there is always a way to do this...
    JNI and native code.
Or some other thing like a messaging service (JMS or other things).
Or if the new I/O does shared memory? (haven't look at that stuff yet)

  • IPhone 4S cannot receive SMS from Blackberry World Edition

I bought an iPhone 4S, and my mother sent me an SMS from her Blackberry World Edition, yet I could not receive it. I was able to send a text to her, and she could get it, and we can both call each other. We are both under Verizon's family plan. I can get my father's texts from a Blackberry Curve (also on the plan). I've tried a hard reset already as well.
    Any advice? Thanks!

Yes, I can connect both to a cellular network and to a Wi-Fi network.  I can send and receive SMS texts and iMessages to other iPhone users. Not all sent messages are received by iPhone 5 users; and I don't receive all messages from iPhone 5 users.

Crashing apps. What do I do to fix it?
My first gen. iPad exits out of apps and safari at random times when I am trying to use them. So I basically can't do anything on it. Is there some way I can fix this?

I have the same problem.  Yahoo Sportacular aborts every time I try to open it.  It attempts to load and then the device goes right back to the home screen.  The problem started April 26 after I switched leagues from NHL to NBA. Closing all apps and Restarting doesn't solve solve the problem.
All other apps on the iPad work fine.  IPad2, OS6.
Any other suggestions?  I suppose I could delete the app from the iPad and try re-installing it

    Try resetting your network settings.
