Can an external editor be used with PSA 3 SE?

I have reviewed the PDF download for Getting Started with PSA 3 SE and see no mention of an External Editor interface. However, I think this function would be very beneficial for people who have Photoshop Elements 2 and want to try PS Album.
Therefore, I am explicitly asking if PS Elements 2 can be used as an External Editor with PSA 3 SE?

Thanks for your answer and I guess Adobe made a marketing decision not to provide the External Editor interface in the Starter Edition.

Yes, I agree that a move to PSE 3 makes sense for some people and brings Adobe more revenue.
However, Adobe also makes revenue from those PSE 2 copies that people have purchased retail or received with their scanners or cameras. Adobe chose to offer an upgrade price to Elements 3 for only a short time.
Why should people not get a good experience with PSA 3 SE having an interface to PSE 2 from which Adobe has earned revenue?

Is Time Machine something that I can back up to in a separate particle of my new MacBook Pro or do I need an external drive to use with it?

.....ie we have Seagate external drives but both have Windows files on them, although plenty of room. Am I able to keep the Windows files on them and back up to them with Time Machine on new MacBook Pro? Don't understand....and not very clear. Thanks

In order to use Time Machine the external volume must be formatted in Disk Utility as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". You can't use a drive that is formatted to be used for both a Mac and a Windows unit (exFAT, etc.). You should purchase a new external drive to use with Time Machine and never let your work go for over a week with hooking up to the TM drive and allow Time Machine to do it's thing.

how and to what should i format it so i can use ut with leopard and timemachine, also is it possible to make 2 partiton on it so one partition
would still be windows format so i can backup windows on it too?

If you have an Intel Mac do this:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to two and resize as desired using the sizing gadget. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the PC volume you just created (this is a sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to MSDOS (FAT32) from the Format drop down menu. Click on the Erase button.
5. Select the OS X volume you just created (this is the other sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
You should now be able to use the drive on both platforms. One partition for OS X and the other for Windows.

External HD for use with Time Machine

I have a new MacBook Pro with 320GB HD. I want to buy an external HD to use with Time Machine for a back up. HOw much capacity should I be looking at for the external? Is 500GB enough or is it possible to partition a 1TB unit for use as backup and extra storage (photos, music, etc...)?

You should check your date of purchase against the manufacturer's warranty
or guaranty since some of those better brands have some recourse should
they fail within a specified time period. A good reason to save dated receipts.
Since solid-state USB drives probably don't (all) use a wear-leveling software
to equally utilize their recordable space evenly, it is possible that some of these
may exhibit a failure in some sector areas due to excessive over-writing. If the
ones you use do not have such a technology or an undercounted total capacity
with a means to automatically write in other sections, you may have to consider
manually using a disk utility to zero-overwrite and reformat them occasionally.
Even so, that may only help a marginal flash or thumb drive work a little longer.
Should a camera memory card fail you still may be able to attempt with margin of

The standard default format they ship with works well for most file types; so if
you aren't moving OS X or Mac app specific files around on a USB flash drive,
the original format should be fine. Oh, you can use Disk Utility to attempt to do

The apple ID was his personal account and can no longer gain access. Im sure I can get purchase recipts from the accounting department if needed. I tried to put the Ipad in restore mode and used itunes to "recover" the ipad but it still wont let me in because he registered the device with the "lost iphone" feature or whatever that is.

While it is true that mice or other pointing device like track pads are not supported on the iPad since there is no real pointer, I use a stylus pen. I know it would probably tip over the iPad if you are standing it up, but it's the closest I've seen. I use the Wacom Bamboo stylus and a Zagg keyboard and the case for the iPad and keyboard. I use the stylus a lot on the Paper app to take notes in meetings and such. Not really a solution but if you are trying to move an insertion point in a document, it does work.

Yes, on XP, Vista and 7. Have not tried 8.

Genie Timeline Pro does a very nice job...and it is similar to Apple's Time Machine. It's not cheap though. Check with the Genie folks for more info and compatibility with Windows 8.

Not that I know of since the iPad does not have a Thunderbolt port and I know of no adapters to go from the iPad digital adapter or component cables to the new display.
