Can an external monitor be the main monitor?

Is there a way to make my external monitor the main monitor, i.e. the one with the menu bar at the top, without just "mirroring" the display?

Yes. With the external monitor connected (and mirroring off), in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab, where you see the icons of the two displays, drag the menu bar from the current location to the other display. That will move the menu bar and dock to the external display.

You can declare a public object variable in the parent form's module's Declarations area:
    Public rs As DAO.Recordset
Then, anywhere in the parent form's module:
    Dim strSQL As String
    strSQL= "SELECT etc"
    Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(strSQL)
In a subform's module, or anywhere else for that matter while the form is open, you can return a reference to the recordset as a property of the class:
    Form_YourParentFormName.rs

HOW CAN I BACKUP ANOTHER EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE INCASE THE MAIN GOES BAD.

I want to know how to use the automator to schedule lets say everyother day incase my main backup harddrive goes out.
I am using timemachine on it along with alot of pictures and videos on the first external harddrive and i have another external harddrive beside it that i want it to backup the same info the first one has.
I hope this makes sense to yall out there please help.

I downloaded a movie and when i was watching it it stopped and the screen went dark and can't go back to the main screen it just plain dark screen

I rented a movie from iTunes and right at the end it stopped playing then after few seconds the screen went dark
And I can not go back to main screen or do any thing it just plain dark as if the movie is stuck on stop mode ?!!

Is the store frozen i.e. can you navigate within that category ? You could try closing the iBooks app completely and then re-open it and see if it then works : from the home screen (i.e. not with iBooks 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iBooks app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

The function of looping a media file (i.e. movie) is typically a function of the media player software, it can not be embedded into a movie file.
As an alternative a video DVD can be programmed during authoring to loop any file (i.e. at end, jump to, start of file)

Unable to set external display as primary/main monitor on Macbook Boot Camp

I have an LG Flatron W1942TQ monitor hooked up to my Macbook right now. I am able to extend the desktop to this monitor and use it dual display style, but the Start menu remains on the Macbook display.
I want the monitor to be the primary monitor. So I go to check off "Set as Primary Monitor" in the control panel, but when I do that it suddenly reverts back to having the Macbook monitor as the only display, shutting off the LG Flatron.
Just wondering if there is a driver issue or something I am overlooking as to how to have my external display as the main monitor.

I think that works for Mac OS but in Boot Camp Windows XP OS does not have that option. I did try to drag the XP system bar at the bottom onto my external display but no luck. I am having the same issue as Jack Ryan and Philtones. I am a mild timpered guy and love my MBP but this agrivation just about has me ready to throw it.
I hooked it up at a LAN party & the display wouldn't come on at first. It finally just started working & I played several games in mirror mode. Then, I decided to correct the resolution and couldn't get mirroring back on no matter what I tryed. I also can't switch primary monitor.
Please, someone, has anyone found the solution?

Using External Monitor as Main Screen during OS Install?

I have a MacBook whose screen has gotten trashed (less than half of the left side visible), and I am resigned to using an external monitor. But I need to re-install Leopard. When I boot from the DVD, the trashed screen is the main one, and the external monitor is active, but the installer screens won't drag. Obviously I can't get to the Monitors Preferences to reset the main screen. BTW, resetting the main screen to the external monitor doesn't persist across the reboot.
SO: Is there a way to use the keyboard OR is there a Terminal command for switching the main screen to the external monitor?

Try this trick. Get everything set for the install. You can have the disk in the drive so it is ready to rock as soon as you start. Have the external display hooked up. Turn off your MacBook. Now hit the on switch. As soon as you do close the display on the MacBook this will force the MacBook to use the external display as the main Monitor. Now do your install. You can open the MacBook and the internal display will stay off and the external will continue being the main monitor. This will allow use of the keyboard if you don't have an external one.

I do not yet own a Mac, but I am doing up-front research to know what to expect.
I currently have a Samsung 204T LCD monitor (DVI) which allows rotating the display into portrait mode.
I know that OS X supports using an external monitor to extend or mirror the desktop. Can an external monitor be configured for operating in portrait mode? I would expect that this requires the video driver to rotate the display before sending it to the monitor.

So yesterday, I took my Samsung SyncMaster 204T monitor to the local Apple retailer to try it out on an actual system. I specifically tried it out on the 24" iMac with the nVidia 7300GT graphics card, since that is the system I was interested in.
It turned out that this monitor works beautifully in portrait mode with the above system using Tiger 10.4.8.
So, I went and bought it!!

External Monitor Not Working (Can't Hear Vocals)

Hi all.
I am about to tear my hair out with monitoring problems I have started experiencing with Adobe Audition.
I want to use the External Monitor feature to monitor my vocals whilst recording a track (Don't like the latency of Audtion monitor). However the problem I am having is that I cannot hear my voice when recording. The vocals record on the track just fine but I cannot hear it whilst recording.
I don't know whether it has anything to do with the fact I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (64bit). I never had this problem before and it gave me no issues before. It has rendered me useless as i am unable to get anything recorded.
My sound card is Audiophile 2496 and I record using SE2200a through a Xenyx 1204 Mixer
Does anyone know how to fix this so i can use external monitor once again

You need to set this up correctly in the 2496 control panel. On the Mixer tab make sure both 1/2 In and SW 1/2 rtn are faded up. Then on Output tab select Mixer as Output Source under the fader. You should then be able to hear both yourself incoming and playback from Audition.

As far as I know this is not possible. In my case this option is grayed out!!!
But maybe its possible on your notebook. In such case you should access the graphic card properties. Then go the last tab called Settings.
There you should mark the display 2 and should enable the option called use this device as the primary monitor.
But if this option is not available you will be not able to set this!!!!

PHantom external monitor

I use an external monitor at work and just the MacBook Pro LCD at home. Every time the computer wakes up from sleep, even though it is not connected to a monitor, it still thinks there is an external monitor and resizes the LCD screen display to 800x600 or some other useless size. Using Detect Displays in the Displays prefs will eventually make it switch back, but often it takes several minutes and 20 tries to get it to recognize that there is actually not a VGA monitor there. I can find no pattern to what makes it finally realize there is no external monitor. Anyone know how to remove this annoyance?

I have a related problem. I use my MBP with external displays quite often. Trouble is, especially when I have the external set as the main monitor (but often so when that's not the case), when I unplug the external, the MBP doesn't properly sense that change of state. That means that windows end up getting "displayed" on the phantom, erstwhile external screen and, if the external was the "main" (with the control bar at the top), I lose access to my menu bar.
Sure I can diddle with the Displays PrefPane (I had to write a macro to invoke it for the instances when the menu bar is absent). The workaround doesn't always work, either.
Worse still, yesterday when I disconnected from the external monitor in my office, my MBP continued (evidently) to behave as if I was still working, so it didn't so to sleep. Once home, about an hour later, I took the MBP from my briefcase and it was sizzling hot. I sense that had I not discovered the problem then I could well have fried my MBP.
This sort of behavior is the opposite of the smarts my 15" G4PB exhibited. not only did it properly sense the changes, it "remembered" monitors of the past and immediately reestablished the configuration I had when last connected to a specific monitor. This is far, far worse.
I've tried zapping the PRAM, as well as all manner of other fixes, and nothing works. Is this a hardware problem?

Question About External Monitor Resolution

Can my external monitor's resolution (such as 1920/1200) connected to my macbook be higher then the 1280/800 my computer has?

The problem with running in mirrored mode is that the external display will be limited to a set of resolutions that match the aspect ratios that are supported by the MacBook's internal LCD. This means that you will end up with a limited set of resolutions on your external display and it may even be impossible to select the optimum or native resolution for your external display (when running in the mirrored mode). However, when you disable mirrored mode you should be able to select any resolution that is supported by the external display itself (as reported by the display hardware). However, there have been reports of users having problems with resolution settings when they connect a display using HDMI, since in some cases that appears to default to a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, which is the standard 1080P for HDTV.
